GOODBYE
BERNIE
Can you spot Bernie in this staff
photo taken over 20 years ago?
This week’s newsletter is a special
edition, dedicated to Bernie, who is
leaving us to retire after 32 years of service.
Bernie as he looked a while ago….!
I am very sorry to be saying goodbye to our wonderful premises manager, Bernie, this week. In the few months
that I have been at Mandeville, Bernie has been the most fantastic support to me and the school. He has guided us
successfully through the new playground and has been vital day-to-day support in keeping Mandeville running
smoothly. I can honestly say that I have not had to worry about the school building as I knew it was in safe hands.
On behalf of the whole school I want to wish Bernie a very happy retirement and say a huge thank you for
everything that he has done.
Matthew Shapland - Associate Headteacher
I first met Bernie about 11 years ago and I loved his cheerful and friendly nature. I was really excited when I
realised by coming to Mandeville in April I would get to work with Bernie but then he spoilt it all by taking his
much deserved retirement! There isn’t a single person in Mandeville and beyond who isn’t going to miss Bernie,
I know I will. Best of everything Bernie, come and visit us soon! Louise Nichols - Executive Headteacher
Here are a few of the lovely portraits of
Bernie, painted by children in Nursery.
Yellow Class thought of adjectives to describe
Bernie: brave, funny, strong, kind, helpful, amazing,
great, fantastic …..to name a few!
Cedar Class wrote messages to Bernie: "I'm thanking you for
welcoming me to Mandeville primary, without you I wouldn't
be the person I am. You always congratulate us in
tournaments, even if we don't do our best." Medhi Yone
"Everything is positive when Bernie's around!" Tazrian Kabir

On Wednesday Rainbow Class had our assembly.
We performed Traction Man, a book that we
