9TH ANNUAL RED CARPET GALA & AUCTION
Welcome and thank you!
This year is going to be an amazing year at ECA. Here are
just some of the many exciting things that we expect for the
coming season:
- Over 7,000 students and 40 schools will be engaged in Education & Outreach programs.
- Our new Dementia-friendly Program Series will be
launched and will include three movie matinees and
multiple workshops throughout the year.
- 25-30 outstanding artists will grace our stage this year
in our Presented Artist Series, including Los Lobos,
Travis Tritt, and The Second City.
- Over 100 rental events will be held at ECA this year.
- Over 65,000 people will come through our doors this
year.
As a supporter of ECA, you have much to be proud of!
None of this would be possible without the support of this
wonderful community. We also have to thank our Executive
Director, Joe McIalwain; ECA staff; ECA volunteers; and our
PFD and ECA Board Members.
When we look back at those first couple of years, who would
have imagined that ECA would become what it is today?
Through visionary thinking and dedicated hard work, it just

Introduction
John Curley swears he doesn’t deserve
the life that he has, and believes that if
karma does exist he will be coming back
in the next time around as a dung beetle.
Before that happens, John has much
work to do. He is a host on KIRO Radio
97.3FM, serves as an elected official in the
city of Sammamish as a councilman and
is also President of John Curley Auctions.
He auctioneers year round helping to
raise 2.3 million dollars a month for area
non-profits. He wears many hats and has
many titles but likes it best when two
very small people, who look a little bit like him, call him dad.

A self-proclaimed "accidental" artist, Barbara discovered pottery
while in college studying Business Administration and Community
Health Education. Out of college, pottery was a place to escape the
stresses of corporate life. While raising her family, she eventually
worked her way out of the boardroom and into the studio full time.
Born and raised in Edmonds, spending summers on the beaches of
Whidbey Island, her work embraces the colors and textures of the
Pacific Northwest.
Most of Barbara’s potting time is spent at the wheel creating
functional wares; serving pieces are most fun. Good cooks believe
presentation is as important as taste, and she agrees. It’s not
necessarily what you serve; it’s how you serve it!
Barbara enjoys decorating with stamps or by layering glazes. She’s
created over 250 botanical and geometric themed stamps, which
are mixed and matched to create unique pieces. Her goal in layering
glazes is creating abstracts that reflect the colors and lines of Puget
Sound scenery. Blues and greens over rusts emulate the tree lines
across the bay, blues over black—the tidal flats on an incoming tide.
All her serving pieces are oven and dishwasher safe. Only food-safe
glazes are used.
Barbara also works with low-fire raku and saggar firing techniques
creating strictly ornamental works. These processes allow for
experimentation with salt-soaked ferns and hay, copper wire, feathers,
horse hair, chemical colorants, low-fire glazes and smoke. Low-fired
pottery is strictly ornamental and will not hold water without a glass
liner.

otherwise you will be charged $10. The $1,000 is towards live
auction purchases only and is non-transferable.
HomeStreet Bank Dessert Dash Rules
Dessert Dash takes place in the middle of the Live Auction. When
you take a seat at your table, please write in your bid for desserts
on the Dessert Dash bid sheet located at your table. Your bid is
added to the rest of your table’s bids. The highest bidding table
wins the right to pick the first dessert!
Boeing Almost Live Auction Rules
ECA’s Almost Live Auction takes place during dinner and the Live
Auction. After every few items you will see an Almost Live update
to show you the current bidder in the lead for each of the Almost
Live items.
Please turn to the next page to see the Almost Live Items. Once
you’ve made your pick, fill out an Almost Live Bid Sheet that you’ll
find on your table and hold it up in the air. Someone will be by to
pick up the sheet and hand you another so you can make another
bid!
NEW Auction Check-Out Process!
Gift Certificates will be mailed out following the event. Items
and receipts will be available in the lobby as you check-out.
Staff and volunteers will be there to assist you with check-out.
Please come to the lobby when you are ready to depart and see if
you’ve won anything! Staff will be available to help you to your car
if needed.

the Golden Bid Card to use during tonight’s live auction. The bid
card will increase your live auction bidding power by $1,000.

After every few items you’ll see an Almost Live Update on the screen

ECA Red Carpet Gala & Auction Rules
1. Edmonds Center for the Arts (ECA) has endeavored to correctly catalog and describe
the items or lots to be auctioned during tonight’s events. The items and lots are sold
“as is” and ECA neither warrants nor represents, and shall in no way be responsible for,
the correctness of the description, authentiity, authorship, provenance or condition of
the items or lots. No statement contained in the catalog or made orally at the sale or
elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty, representation, or assumption of liability.
2. ECA reserves the right to withdraw any item or lot sale prior to the call for bids.
3. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds on items except where
specified.
4. Payment by the successful bidder must be made the night of the auction with cash,
check (payable to ECA), AmEx, MasterCard, or VISA only.
5. Auction items or lots not removed auction night will be stored at buyer’s own risk.
Shipping arrangedments are the responsibility of the purchaser.
6. Items may be removed on auction evening only by exhibiting a “paid” receipt at the
door at the time of departure.
7. Unless otherwise specified, all wine related auction items and services must be used
within one year of the auction (October 3, 2016). Taxes, gratuities and alcoholic beverages
(other than wine provided) are the responsibility of the purchaser.
8. Reservations for all trips must be made at least one month in advance unless otherwise
specified. All tickets in travel packages are for coach class unless otherwise specified. No
refunds will be allowed on travel packages for canceled trips and accommodations. Airline
date restrictions may apply. Plan your trip carefully.
9. Air travel will be provided by airlines as stated even though prices may increase above
stated values. Because airfares change, airfares may also decrease below those values
stated, but no refunds will be allowed.
10. All sales of wine are subject to Washington State Law, including regulations of the
Washington State Liquor Control Board.
11. Payment for the auction lots will be handled in our lobby after the auction by ECA
Volunteers. For questions after the event, please contact ECA Development Manager,

org.
Express Checkout: No need to leave the auction early to pay for your items! At
registration, a volunteer will ask to record the credit card you wish to use for your
purchases. AmEx, MasterCard and VISA are accepted. At the conclusion of the evening,
simply go to the Item Pick-Up area to retrieve your items, gift certificates and receipts.
No cashier stop is needed. An itemized receipt of your purchases and donations will be
mailed to you within 10 business days. If you make no puchases, your card will not be
charged.
