Safe Boater Certification Required
The Kentucky General Assembly passed the Safe Boating Act in
1998 to improve safety conditions on Kentuckys public waterways.
The Safe Boating Act requires boaters 12-17 years of age
to be safe-boater certified or be accompanied by a person
who is safe-boater certified or a person who is 18 years
or older when operating a boat 10 horsepower or greater.
Boaters can become certified by passing a 50-question test given
by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR)
or by passing boating courses given by the U.S. Coast Guard,
Coast Guard Auxiliary or U.S. Power Squadron. To find a testing
site in your county or to receive a study manual call the KDFWR
at 1-800-858-1549 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Anglers may use either a Tennessee or a Kentucky sport fishing
license while fishing in the Wolf River arm of Dale Hollow Lake.
This includes the Illwill Creek embayment beginning at a line
crossing the Wolf River at its mouth where it joins the Obey River
and the main part of the lake.
Kentucky has over 300 miles of trout streams.
Anglers must obey the regulations of the state in which they are
licensed. Kentucky residents must have a Kentucky license.
