Welcome to our 2007-08 Roycroft Daylily Nursery mail-order catalog. We thank all of our
customers and friends who have supported us in the past and hope to serve you in the future! We also
look forward to serving new customers! To date we have shipped daylilies to all 50 United States as well
as to 38 other countries. Our continuous goal is to grow approximately 800 daylily cultivars of the
highest qualities (from the 60,000+ registered cultivars developed by many hybridizers) and offer those
of which we have adequate stock to our world-wide customers. We both add and discontinue between
25-50 cultivars annually in order to try our very best to stay on the “cutting edge” in the world of
daylilies and to be able to offer you new selections each year.
We continue to solicit and to also share daylily hardiness information, by USDA climate zone, as it
becomes available. Please let us know if you disagree with any of the recommendations which we offer
as this is the only way which we have been able to develop these recommendations. USDA ratings,
from zones 3-9, are given for each cultivar presented in our General Listings. We encourage you to visit
the Roycroft Daylily Nursery web site to see larger and higher quality images of
cultivars, daylilies blooming in clumps, cultivars not in catalog, and for ease and

We normally email the newsletter to members 4-6 times per year.
We hope you will visit our nursery and American Hemerocallis Society National Daylily Display
Garden in coastal South Carolina. You will be able to view and purchase container-grown daylilies
while browsing under 55% shade cloth which we install for your comfort during the summer months.
Several of our 24 display beds are nestled under large Longleaf Pine trees which provide natural
shading. Our web site’s “Nursery Photo Gallery” will give you a flavor of what you might expect to see
at our nursery and we encourage you to visit it!
June is our absolute peak bloom month; however, we have a lot of bloom from May through
October. The map on the back of this catalog denotes two 10' x 36' billboards on US Hwy. 17 to remind
you that you are approaching the turnoff on Whitehall Avenue which leads to our nursery. Whitehall
Avenue is located 5 miles south of historic Georgetown, SC.
Please note that the mail-order prices found in this catalog pertain only to bare-rooted mail-order
purchases, not to container purchases. Prices vary between our catalog prices and our potted price list
which you will be given upon arrival at our nursery. Gift plants are not given with potted purchases.
We strive to attain the best photos possible but sometimes, despite our efforts, they are not
completely accurate. Accordingly, please read the written descriptions rather than just ordering from
our photos. We take pride in supplying quality daylilies and strive to only ship plants which we would

Thanks to the many visitors who critiqued these introductions as well as potential future introductions and thousands of
our seedlings! Your frank opinions are always solicited. We encourage all visitors to call our attention to those cultivars
which you feel are truly different and outstanding.
Cindy and Bob’s cultivars have not been grown outside of Roycroft’s zone 8 nursery in Georgetown, SC, so we cannot give
any information concerning hardiness by zones. Likewise, Wyatt’s have not been grown outside of his zone 7 garden in
Kernersville, NC. So, you might wish to be guided by the parents and not plant a given new introduction outside of the

BELLE ISLE MIST
(Roycroft, 2006) dip seedling 00-2-SSxGS. (Sabra Salina x Gentle Shepherd) – 22", EM-ML, RE, SEV, 53⁄4". 3-way
branching; up to 14 buds. A sibling of ALICE'S GHOST. A light lavender flower with a darker etched band and a
chartreuse throat.This cultivar seems to catch everyone's eye! I was not planning to register it due to low bud
count, but, changed my mind since many customers have wanted to purchase it. It is a stunning flower and an
excellent rebloomer into the late midseason. Also, it is a fast increaser and we have a good inventory; thus the

GEORGETOWN CUTIE

JUST FOR GLORIA
(Roycroft, 2005) dip seedling 01-120-AR. (Angel Rodgers x unknown) – 22", M-VL, RE, SEV, FR, 51⁄4". This extremely
heavy bloomer is one of my best diploid introductions ever! Named in memory of my dear sister, Gloria Roycroft
Fletcher, who was loved by her family and all who knew her. This fabulous cultivar has up to 4-way branching; 33
budcount.The beautiful flower is an orange sherbet cream with a bold deep rose eye and a glowing green throat. It
is also diamond dusted! Very ruffled; one of our heaviest bloomers ever! Fertile both ways. Late and very late
reblooms sometimes have extra segments which leads me to believe that it may be an excellent parent for doubles.

A light cream flower with a light pink to orchid blush, a dark bold grape-purple eye, and a chartreuse throat.
Extremely pod fertile (sets pods the size of golf balls) but is pollen sterile. Produces large fans and strong scapes
with fabulous flowers, but, it a slow increaser for us. Reblooms through the late bloom season for us.

BOB’S RED TARGET
(Roycroft, 2006) tet seedling 00-94-FM. (Fooled Me x unknown) – 24", EM-ML, RE, DOR, 6". 3-way branching; up to 13
buds. An electric orange flower with a large red eye and yellow throat which spills over onto the sepals. I was not
planning to register this cultivar due to low bud count, but, we did test sell at the nursery for the last two years. It
is a huge seller because it is a stunning flower and an excellent rebloomer into the late midseason. It is a fast
increaser and we have a good inventory; thus the unbelievably low introductory prices!

GEORGETOWN GOLD
(Roycroft, 2005) tet seedling 01-166-gold seedling. (parentage unknown) – 37", ML-VL, RE, SEV, 7". Up to 5-way
branching; 30 buds.Tall! A stunning gold self flower with a jade green heart. Reblooms well into the very late season
for us. I had not planned to register this cultivar as it looks similar to the famous award-winning MARY’S GOLD.
However, that changed when we realized that GEORGETOWN GOLD is just getting started with blooms when
MARY’S GOLD is on its last rebloom scapes for the year. GEORGETOWN GOLD reblooms through the very late

LEMONADE SUMMERS

branching; 20 buds. A glowing neon rose flower with a lighter halo and a small chartreuse throat. It is unusual for a
daylily flower to actually glow but this one does! Its blooms draw people to it like a magnet! Fertile both ways.

brilliant red flower with a huge green throat that covers half of the flower. In addition it throws some polytepal
flowers, some with so many segments that the flowers look to be computer generated. It also produces some fans
that have a white stripe in the middle of the fan.This would be a brilliant and unusual addition to your garden.

lavender eye, gold throat, and lavender edge adorned with light peach to light golden jewel-like knobs. Puts up an
abundance of original and rebloom scapes over a 21⁄2 to 3 month period! Very impressive! Extremely fertile both

branching; up to 17 buds. A stunning lavender flower with a dark purple eye, chartreuse throat, and a dark purple
edge topped with a yellow-gold picotee. Puts on a great show beginning in the early season! Fertile both ways. A

FORSYTH FIRE IN THE HOLE
(LeFever 2006) Tet. Seedling # 03-26-1. (Adorable Tiger x Forsyth Dazzler) – 26", RE, ML, SEV, Fr, 5". 3-way branching; up
to 20 buds. An offspring of two outstanding cultivars! I have been interested in breeding for red eyes for some time
now and this cultivar has the most intense red eye that I have yet seen.The eye covers two thirds of the yellow
flower and there is a red edge.This is a good performer with a long bloom season and will be a truly striking

FORSYTH PINK SURPRISE
(LeFever 2006) tet. seedling. (Parentage unknown) – 30", RE, M, SEV, Fr, 6". 3-way branching; up to 18 buds.This cultivar
appeared in a row of lavender seedlings and after evaluating it for the summer I decided that this may be one of my
very best pinks to date.The color is a beautiful lavender-pink with a heavy gold edge and a small yellow-green
throat.This flower has a pristine look about it and I have never seen a bad flower. A good performer and increaser.

FORSYTH TRANSFUSION
(LeFever 2006) Tet. Seedling # 03-51-4. (Tetra Forsyth Ace Of Hearts x Dragon Prince) – 24", RE, M, SEV, Fr, 41⁄2". Up to
4-way branching; 30 buds. When viewing this daylily the color of blood comes to mind; hence the name.This is
probably my best red eyed one to date. It seems to have everything; an intense brilliant red eye and edge with a
bitter green throat. At times the eye covers most of the flower whose base color is a creamy pink with a yellow
cast.The well branched and budded scape is in perfect proportion to the plant. It is a good increaser and will be a
stunning addition to your garden. Pollen fertile. (I am delighted to have added my conversion of Forsyth Ace Of
Hearts, through this offspring, to the tetraploid gene pool!). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . single fan $200.00
KAY’S FAITH

buds. Chosen and named by Kay Whitehurst who is a great customer and friend, and, who is also a great judge of
daylilies! This outstanding cultivar has a large, clear, and brilliant scarlet red flower with a huge yellow throat which
significantly spills onto the sepals. A garden standout which blooms into the late bloom season for us. Fertile both

LOFTY TREASURE
(Roycroft, 2006) tet seedling 03-205-TC. (Tyler’s Cove x unknown) – 43", EM-L, RE, SEV, FR, 7".Widely branched with up
to 4-way branching; 29 buds.Tall and large flowered. A diamond dusted peach flower with a red eye and veining, and,
a chartreuse throat. An outstanding performer which blooms through the late season for us. And, this is one of the
most vigorous cultivars that I have ever seen! One observer said that it looked like a daylily on steroids! Admired by
many garden visitors. Fertile both ways. A fast increaser which has allowed these low introductory prices.
PRINCE CHARMING’S DANCE
(Roycroft, 2006) tet seedling 01-188-CIG. (Clothed In Glory x unknown) – 24", EM-ML, RE, DOR, 51⁄2". Up to 4-way
branching; 26 buds. A beautiful lavender flower with a darker halo, yellow throat, and silver picotee.The colors go
very well with my previous introduction, CINDERELLA’S DANCE, thus the name. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of this
beauty last Summer! A great performer; multitudes of scapes; a blooming machine! Fertile both ways but difficult to

Visiting your display gardens is one of the highlights of our South Carolina vacation. We received
our daylilies the day after our return to Ohio. They looked like you had just dug them the morning
we received them.
Our two grandchildren helped us with the planting design. They cut the pictures of the ones we
bought from the catalog and arranged and rearranged with the help of tape until they had the
"perfect" combination of colors. Of course they each took a favorite home! What fun. Now we will
enjoy this group of daylilies for more reasons than one.
When we returned home, we found that our Strawberry Candy was reblooming. We now have 32 of

Our pots of 1st year blooming seedlings are always the best sellers at our
nursery! People are thrilled to be able to purchase these modern hybrids –
each unique – at such low prices! Approximately 75% of these are largeflowered tetraploid seedlings which first bloomed in 2006. Most would have
been introduced 1-5 years ago. But now they are too similar to other newer and
costly introductions, from me and others, to register. The majority of the
parents used in these crosses perform well from zones 3-9!
All of the seedlings represented in the photo of the display centerpiece will
be sold as well as some others of equal quality which we just did not have time to display

These blooming sized seedlings are the very best that we
bloomed and grew out of the crosses of the Super Red
seedlings with other tall and large flowered cultivars.
(Super Reds are offspring from Tom Wise X Point of
View. Super Reds will not be offered again as the Super
Giant seedlings are even superior to them!)
Nursery visitors will recall that these seedlings were
located in three gallon pots behind the nursery building
and were loaded with seed pods. Everyone who saw them
could not believe how robust and stunning they were and
wanted to know if and when they would be for sale. One
customer suggested that we call them “Super Giants”,
thus the name.
These seedlings are large flowered and tall with primarily
various shades of red colored flowers which hold up very
well even in full sun! Most are spider variants or unusual
forms. The pots are unlabeled so we cannot pick specific
colors to ship to you. But, you can be assured that each
seedling will be vigorous, large flowered, and tall. Each is
extremely fertile, both ways, and I think that you’ll find
them to be excellent parents for tall and large flowered
tetraploid spiders, spider variants, and unusual forms!

“When should I plant daylilies?”
“What is a diploid and a tetraploid?”
You will need to make sure that you specify a shipping date
in Spring after the danger of frost so that the plants may
begin immediate growth after you plant.
Basically, a diploid has 22 chromosomes and a tetraploid has
44 chromosomes. Hybridizers cross diploids with diploids,
and, tetraploids with tetraploids in order to produce seed.
We also recommend that your Fall plantings occur at least
1½ months before your first frost so that roots may become
firmly established before the arrival of cold weather.
Hot climates, especially, should not plant in periods of
extremely high temperatures.
“What is a rebloomer?”
“What is a fan?”
When looking at our price list, “1 fan” is a single fan (one
plant) growing on a root system. “2 fans” is a double fan
(two plants) growing on the same root system.
Rebloomers put up more than one set of scapes, or bloom
stalks, each year. One set may be followed by other sets; or,
they may follow after rest period.
“What do I do with the foliage
during the fall and winter months?”
Nothing! Dormant foliage types will die down on their own.
Evergreens will stay above ground during the winter months
and may appear burned (brown) after freezing temperatures.
You can trim the “burned” foliage for aesthetic purposes but
it’s not necessary.

“mixed bag” reporting of the performance of a given cultivar

heavy mulching made a significant difference in colder
climates and these were discounted in favor of a more stark
environment.)
