◆
◆
◆
◆
◆
A deposit system will be in force for vehicles other than those
transporting horses, due to the fact the Blue Park is now almost full to
capacity. This will apply to ANY vehicle not carrying horses or ponies
that wishes to gain entry to Blue Park to deliver tack or riding
equipment.
The Deposit System will work as follows.
During the Show (including Wednesday 18th May), there will be no
vehicle entry or exit at Blue Gate between 2000 and 0600.
A deposit of £50.00 (CASH) is required on entry at the Blue Gate for
non-horse transporting vehicles wishing to deliver tack and other
equipment.
The vehicle will have ONE HOUR to remain in Blue Park.
All occupants, including the driver of the vehicle must be in possession
of a valid admission ticket.
The £50.00 deposit will be refunded at Blue Gate ONLY, as long as the
vehicle leaves within the time period allowed. Any vehicle leaving after
the time period allowed will forfeit the deposit paid.
On exiting Blue Park the car will be directed to park in either Green or
White Park. All of the Show public car parks offer free parking.
Anyone attempting to exit the Showground at another Gate will
automatically forfeit their deposit.
The deposit will be forfeited if the above conditions are not adhered to.
Goods or packages will not be accepted by Officers of the Show on
behalf of anyone and should not be sent unless you, or a representative,

Devon County Show 2016
Vehicle Entry at Blue Gate
A deposit system will be in force for vehicles other than those transporting horses, due to
the fact the Blue Park is now full to capacity. This will apply to ANY vehicle not carrying
horses or ponies and wishing to gain entry to Blue Park to deliver tack or riding equipment.
The Deposit System will work as follows.
◆ During the Show (including Wednesday 18th May), there will be no vehicle entry or exit
at Blue Gate between 2000 and 0600.
◆ A deposit of £50.00 (CASH) is required on entry at the Blue Gate for non-horse
transport vehicles wishing to deliver tack and other equipment.
◆
◆
The vehicle will have up to ONE HOUR to off load passengers and equipment.
All occupants, including the driver of the vehicle must be in possession of a valid
admission ticket.
◆ The £50.00 deposit will be refunded at Blue Gate, as long as the vehicle leaves within
the time period allowed. Any vehicle leaving after the time period allowed will forfeit the
deposit paid.
◆
On exiting Blue Park vehicles may park in either Green or White Car Parks. All of the
Show public car parks offer free parking.
◆
Anyone attempting to exit the Showground at another Gate will automatically forfeit
their deposit.
◆
◆
The deposit will be forfeited if the above conditions are not adhered to.
Goods or packages will not be accepted by Stewards or Officers of the Show on behalf
of anyone and should not be sent unless you, or a representative, are available to receive
them at point of delivery.
17 The Devon County Show reserves the right to amalgamate or cancel any classes if they consider the
entries to be insufficient. The Devon County Show also reserves the right to divide any class if they consider
the entries warrant it.
18 The Devon County Show reserves the right to restrict the number of entries in any class as they see fit.
19 Judges. THE JUDGES DECISION WILL BE FINAL. The Judges are instructed to withhold prizes
where the entry is not of sufficient merit and in awarding prizes they are further instructed to make their
awards according to the relative merits of the exhibits for breeding purposes and not to take into
consideration the market value of the animals. No prize will be awarded to any unsound animal
(lameness or other unsoundness from accidental injury shall not necessarily disqualify) and in every
case where the Judges shall have a doubt as to height, soundness, or the correct age of any animal
exhibited, they shall consult one of the Honorary Veterinary Surgeons of the Devon County Show and
his/her decision will be final.
22
Exhibitors are not permitted to show an animal under a Judge who has been connected with the animal
in any way, at any time.
20 Measuring of Horses. Appropriate classes will be chosen at random for measuring. Horses entered
in classes chosen for measuring shall be presented to the Honorary Veterinary Officer, in the presence
of a Steward, either for measurement or for checking with their Joint Measurement Scheme Certificate.
Times of measurement will be displayed at the Horse Office and must be strictly adhered to.
The height of the horse or pony as measured by the Honorary Veterinary Surgeon on the day of
the Show will be taken as correct unless a Life Height Certificate issued when the pony is seven
years or older is held. Three year height certificates issued to young horses and ponies will not
be accepted, except in the year of issue.
Horse and Ponies that exceed the height restriction for their class are permitted to upgrade to the
relevant height class, but not vice versa.
21 Foals. Every foal must be the offspring of the mare with which it is exhibited. In cases where the
foal has died, in the year of the Show, or is prevented from competing owing to illness or accident, the
mare will be eligible to compete provided a certificate from a qualified Veterinary Surgeon is produced
at the time of judging. This does not apply to the pony brood mare, sport horse brood mare and hunter
brood mare classes where the foal must accompany the mare in the ring.
FOALS MUST BE AT LEAST THREE WEEKS OLD AT THE DATE OF THE SHOW.
Exhibitors wishing to show mares in foal rather than with foal at-foot should carry a certificate certifying
the mare to be in foal. The Devon County Show reserves the right to inspect such certificates or, in the
event of non-production of such certificates, may require the mare to be examined by one of the
appointed Honorary Veterinary Surgeons.
22 Riding Classes. Horses and ponies exhibited in the riding classes are to be ridden during the
judging. Exhibitors will provide saddles for that purpose. The right is reserved to limit the number of
entries, which the judge may ride.
No rider may be led except in a leading rein class or where the schedule states may be led.
23 Challenge Cups. Winners of trophies offered by the Devon County Show may retain these until 1st
March in the year following the award, when the trophies and boxes (if applicable) MUST be returned
in prime condition to the Devon County Show Office.
24 Headgear. The Devon County Agricultural Association requires the wearing of a skull cap/riding hat
at all times when mounted. All headgear should be manufactured to the relevant current BSI Standard.
In the arena all skull caps must be worn with a plain dark coloured peaked cover. All skull caps/riding
hats should have a three point harness.
The Devon County Show recommends the wearing of protective headgear whilst leading any horse or
pony.
25 Mobile Phones. The use of mobile phones is NOT permitted if a competitor and/or their associates
are RESPONSIBLE for an animal (ie: holding, leading or riding), anywhere on the showground.
The use of mobile phones in the judging rings is forbidden.
26 Accuracy of Catalogue. The Devon County Show will not be responsible for any inaccuracy in any
pedigree inserted in the Show catalogue, though every care will be taken to ensure the accuracy of all
particulars printed therein.
27 Advertising. The Devon County Show reserves the right to remove any sign that in its opinion is not
of a suitable standard.
23
28 Protests. All protests must be made in writing and delivered to the Devon County Show Secretary
within half an hour of the judging of said class. Every protest must be accompanied by a deposit of £50
from each person protesting, which shall be forfeited should the objection(s) be decided by the Show’s
Council (five of whom shall form a quorum) to be unfounded.
29 Penalties. In any case where Exhibitors do not, in the opinion of the Stewards, conform to the
Regulations of the Association, the Stewards shall report to the Show Secretary, within 10 days from
the close of the Show, who shall call not less than five members of the Show’s Council to act with the
Stewards, and who after hearing the evidence of the Steward(s) and Exhibitor(s) concerned, shall have
the power to act or report to the Show’s Council as they may decide.
All persons making a false entry, or claiming a Prize by a false Certificate or otherwise breaking or
infringing any of the Rules, Regulations or Conditions, may be prohibited from exhibiting or competing
at any further Show arranged by the Devon County Agricultural Association.
30 Animals Suspected of Suffering from Disease. After consultation with the Devon County Show
Secretary, the Honorary Show Director and Chief Steward of Horses, the Honorary Veterinary
Inspector may require the immediate removal from the Showground of any animal which, in his opinion,
is suspected of suffering from disease or is unfit or unsafe to be exhibited. Such animal shall not be
allowed to compete. Any animal showing evidence of ringworm will not be admitted to the Showground.
The Devon County Show reserves the right to recover from the Exhibitor the cost of Veterinary services
and of any drugs used in the treatment of an animal whilst at the Show.
31 Docking. Horses born in the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland), on or after 1st January
1950, which has been docked or nicked cannot be exhibited except where, in pursuance of the Docking
and Nicking of Horses Act 1949, the operation of docking or nicking was necessary because of disease
or injury to the tail and was authorised in writing by a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary
Surgeons. Docked or nicked horses, which have been imported after 1st January 1955, may not be
exhibited except where the importation has been authorised by an officer of the Customs and Excise
or licensed by the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
32 Equine Influenza. The Devon County Show strongly recommends that all horses and ponies should
be inoculated against Equine Influenza at least a month before the Show. The Honorary Veterinary
Surgeons will carry out regular checks and the Stewards, at their discretion, are empowered to require
any horse or pony showing clinical signs of Equine Influenza to be immediately removed from the
Showground. In the event of an outbreak, the Devon County Show reserves the right to require
Vaccination Certificates to be produced.
33 The Devon County Show Secretary shall have the power to remove from the Showground the stock
and/or property belonging to any exhibitor who shall infringe any of the regulations or conditions of the
Show, or who shall refuse to comply with any instructions given by the Stewards.
34 Equine Passports. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to ensure that they comply with the current
Equine Passport Regulations.
35 Veterinary. Exhibitors are reminded that production of a passport on site is essential for veterinary
treatment of a horse if drugs are needed. Veterinary liability is strictly limited to £1 million. In the event
of an animal injury or fatality, it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to cover the cost for removal of the
animal from the Devon County Show and disposal there of. If the exhibitor fails to do this the Society
may make the arrangements and recover the cost from the exhibitor. Exhibitors are advised to examine
the cover provided by their insurance policies.
36 Health and Safety Legislation. Exhibitors must comply with the latest Health and Safety guidance
relating to animal handling, as well as relevant legislation. The Devon County Show also wishes to draw
your attention to the Regulations Relating to Fire, Health & Safety Procedures that follow these Rules
and Regulations.

HEALTH AND SAFETY. The Devon County Show (Devon County Agricultural Association or DCAA)
operates to a high Health & Safety standard.
Exhibitors and / or their representatives and / or contractors are expected to meet that standard and to
comply with the relevant Health and Safety legislation. It is a condition of the Show that exhibitors or their
appointed representatives/contractors have and will operate a health and safety management programme
which demonstrates carrying out and implementing risk assessments, method statements and safe systems
of work for all their showground work activities. Exhibitors are responsible for liaising with and supervising
their third party representatives and contractors on the Showground.
QUAD BIKES, MINI MOTORBIKES. Exhibitors are NOT permitted to use either quad bikes or mini
motorbikes on, or in, any area of the Showground, car or lorry parks. Only authorised vehicles displaying a
suitable vehicle pass will be allowed to operate during the show.
HEATING & COOKING APPLIANCES. Exhibitors are not permitted to cook on an “open fire”. Heating or
cooking appliance may only be used inside a tented structure where the area has been specifically laid out
for this purpose. Appliances must be securely fixed on a firm, non combustible heat insulating base and
surrounded on three sides by shields of similar material, e.g. heat insulating board. The shields are to be
at least 2ft/0.6m away from the sides of the tented structure in all weather conditions and any combustible
material. Heating and cooking appliances must never be in use when the area is unattended.
The Devon County Show (DCAA) reserves the right of inspection by its appointed Officials or
representatives of the Fire Service of all tented or other structures and any vehicle. The Officials /
representatives shall have full authority to order the use of appliances or equipment to be discontinued
immediately if, in their opinion, they constitute a danger. All tented structures, caravans / vehicles with living
accommodation using bottled gas* are required to have the installation inspected and certified by a qualified
Gas Safe Engineer to ensure the apparatus is safely installed. (*5kg or above). Smaller portable installations
must only be set up by competent person. The decision of the Devon County Show (DCAA) on this matter
must be accepted as final.
All exhibitors are required to supply suitable fire extinguisher(s) and to ensure that these are positioned
ready for use in the event of a fire. Exhibitors will realise that these precautions are necessary in the interest
of both themselves and the general public.
Electrical Equipment. Any electrical equipment brought onto site must be suitable for purpose and in good
condition. The use of petrol or other unauthorized generators is not permitted. Please do not leave battery
equipment charging when unattended.
Failure by Exhibitors and / or their representatives and / or contractors to maintain satisfactory

Smoking is not permitted in temporary or permanent structures and public places especially the
stables area and Blue Horse Park or in the vicinity of any flammable substances!
FIRES
If Fire breaks out shout “Fire” to alert others.

extinguish it.
All vehicles should proceed very slowly and with great care once on the showground and obey the
directions of stewards and parking personnel.
