Sympathy & Prayers
Please pray for the recently deceased, especially Sharon
Galvin, who died this week. We extend our
sincerest sympathy to their families and friends.
MEMORIAL DONATIONS AND FUND
When a loved person dies, instead of giving
gifts of specific items, we request that a donation be
made to a parish memorial fund. The fund permits
the family of the deceased to remember them through
the purchase of an item that is both useful and
necessary to the parish.
In addition to the above, the following
MEMORIALS can be had: BREAD & WINE for the
week is available at a suggested offering of $25;
FLOWERS for the altar for the week are available at
a suggested offering of $35; and monthly ALTAR
CANDLES at a suggested offering of $50.
The Bread & Wine for the week
are in memory of Thomas
Murray, requested by his
brothers and sisters.
The Candles for the month are in
memory of Thomas Murray
requested by his brothers and
sisters.
Dear Friends,
Bread For The World
Bread is the most basic daily nourishment. We learn this as children. We also learn that too many live the cruel
experience of hunger. The bible shows us a compassionate God, attentive to the fundamental needs of all.
On the “Day of the Lord,” no one will lack nourishment. Then, all our needs will be met. Isaiah tells us no one will
have to pay to eat: “You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat.” Utopia? Maybe, though not illusion; rather
a project in history, in which we are protagonists, which upsets the established order. It should be abnormal for people
to lack access to a healthy diet for themselves and their children, for want of money to pay for it, for something to
which all are entitled. Christians must see today as the “Day of the Lord.”
Isaiah reminds us that God promises life, to be lived in delight. Thus, the Lord invites all to listen and eat well. Pope
John Paul II, speaking to over a million hungry people, told them that every person is entitled to have a table and
bread on it, including “you who have no money.” He also often reminded the developed nations of their responsibility to
collaborate in eradicating hunger within their own borders and in the developing world, where too many die daily for
lack of bread. “When I was hungry…”
Matthew reiterates this will for life. Jesus has compassion for those who lack bread. God never desires hunger.
Jesus makes those who follow him his “companions;” i.e., he shares bread with them. This is what “companion”
means: com = together, panis = bread. “Taking the loaves...he gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to
the crowds.” Jesus invites us to do the same, to share our bread, to embrace the poor, and indeed every person, as our
“companions” in life, sisters and brothers in the project of building a more human, just, and loving society and world.
So, nothing can separate us from the “love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8); even the lack of money for
food. Breaking bread with Jesus entails a commitment to work for the transformation of the world’s systems to ensure
access to a healthy diet for every human person.
Estimados Amigos,
Pan Para El Mundo
Chers Amis,
Pen pou lemonn antye
Nou aprann tou ke twòp moun oblije ap viv move
esperyans grangou a. Bib la montre nou yon Bondye ki gen bon kè kap koute ak anpil atansyon bezwen fondamantal nou tout.
Lè "jou Seyè a rive" pap gen moun kap manke manje. Ezayi di nou pa gen moun kap gen
pou peye pou yo manje: "Ou menm ki pa gen lajan vini resevwa grenn jaden yo ak manje." Yap fè w la fil a lang? Petèt men se pa
ilizyon.
gen lajan pou peye pou yon bagay ke yo gen dwa a li. Kretyen yo dwe wè jodi a kòm "Jou Seyè a."
Pap
Jan Pòl II tape pale ak plis pase yon milyon moun ki te grangou lèl te di yo ke tout moun gen dwa gen yon tab ak pen sou li. " menm
oumenm tou ki pa gen okenn lajan." Byen souvan li te raple lòt nasyon ki devlope yo reskonsablite yo nan mete tèt yo ansanm pou
elimine grangou konmanse lakay yo rive jous nan mond ki devlope yo kote twòp moun ap mouri chak jou paske yo grangou.
Li pran pen yo ... li
renmèt yo bay disip yo ki pote yo bay foul moun yo." Jezi envite nou fè menm bagay la. Pataje manje nou anbrase pòv yo fè tout moun
vin "zanmi "nou nan lavi a vin sè ak frè nan pwojè bati yon sosyete ak yon monn ki jis ki chita sou renmen sou tè a.
Konsa pa gen anyen ki ka fè nou pèdi "renmen Bondye nan Jezikri Seyè nou an" (Women 8); menm lè pa gen lajan pou manje.

REFLECTION
IN MEMORIAM
In today’s Gospel, Jesus feeds the five
thousand with five loaves and two fish.
The message of stewardship is that God’s
gifts, shared, will always be more than
enough.
We are grateful this week for all stewards in
our parish who recognize that it is through
the open hands of generous stewards, willing
to share their many gifts, that God’s people
are fed and their needs met.
For those who suffer from the effects of
abortion; for mothers, fathers, children,
and friends; that God might wipe the tears
from their eyes and heal their broken
hearts:
In 2013, 11,419 people were killed by gun
violence. This equates to 502,025 stolen
years of life.
Let us turn to our Lord in prayer that we
make a commitment to the control of
firearms and bring about a culture of love
and peace.
We pray to the Lord:

Peace Begins With Us
Christianity is a personal religion.
Leave dogma to those who enjoy it;
The true Christian is simply one of
Christ’s followers.
I cannot understand the nature of
Infinite Energy; but I can follow Jesus
Christ because we have the story of
His life, actions and words.
I have more faith in the practical
wisdom and knowledge of Jesus than
I have in that of any statesman,
soldier, or philosopher.
Jesus has given us the most glorious
interpretation of life’s meaning of any
person who has ever lived.

Good
Every tomorrow has two handles. We
can take hold of it by the handle of
anxiety, or by the handle of faith.

MAY I REMEMBER…….
God, I find myself heartbroken by the hatred I see all
around me. So I ask that I may never forget….
That behind every brown, yellow, red, black or
white face, there is a family like mine and souls trying to
live in a world that often tells them they are less than or
unworthy, aliens that are not wanted. May I never lose
sight of the soul behind each face, the souls of Your
children.
That behind every homeless person there is a
story that may be so familiar to me as to be uncomfortable. May I never be comfortable until there are no
more homeless faces seeking a kind word, or an opportunity, or just a smile and a little love.
That I never forget the truth of Your gospel, that
storing up riches here, withholding from others out of
some misguided sense of superiority or right to judge,
that treating any one of Your children as unworthy to
come to Your table is not the Christian love You came
to teach us.
That I count as treasures the friends who stand
beside me, encouraging, loving, supporting and accepting me, through word and deed. Sometimes just being
available, sometimes through prayer, sometimes
through sacrifice of their own. Let me never take them
for granted, and always see them as the blessing You
meant them to be, and do my very best to love them as
well as they have loved me.
That when I see actions or hear words that mean
harm to the ‘other’, to never stand still or be quiet in the
face of injustice, cruelty, racism, to call out behavior that
seeks to harm my neighbor. To always see in each face
the potential of a child of God no matter how I might disagree with their manner or actions. To protect those
who are being shunned, criticized, or even threatened
because they are considered different.
That I see and cherish each small blessing from a
spontaneous hug given by a grandchild, to a moment of
clarity when I realize that my grown children love and
understand me despite my obvious imperfections, a
gesture or look from a husband who shows devotion
and commitment each day, an unexpected phone call or
card from someone reminding me that I matter, to the
sunset, birdsong, moonlight, joyous bark or laugh that
sweeten my life.
