What the stars foretell
for your Lagna
(For the 4th quarter of January 2011)
By Sudarshi
Aries (Mesha)
You are going through a very active period
in life. Both Sun and Mars occupying the 10th
House commanding dig-bala endow you with
much drive, motivation and optimism, those
unemployed would secure a permanent employment and those already employed would gain promotion to a higher position. An inheritance from a dead relative and comforts from
women are indicated. Natives who are schoolchildren would do
well in their studies. Career success- recognition or promotion to a
higher position – is in the offing.
Fatalism rejected
Death viewed from the
perspective of Vedic Astrology
Venus in the 7th house of Scorpio makes you
passionate leading you to extremes in seeking
sensual pleasures. Happiness and comfort of
your mother and father would be a main concern
of yours. You will devote time to ensure the wellbeing of your children too. Those running the
major Dasa of Saturn or Venus would secure a
permanent employment which requires professional skills. Marriage will bring you power and money.
Gemini (Mithuna)
You should do well if you are in business or
in diplomatic service. The period up to midFebruary is not auspicious, in that domestic
problems and sickness in the family would
plague you. Incurring heavy expenses for
entertaining friends is indicated. The period
up to January 30 is not auspicious for your
children.
Cancer (Kataka)
Leo (Simha)
Mars and Sun in the 6th House has made
you dynamic and persevering and look forward to the future with self-confidence and
enthusiasm. Home comforts, happiness in
the family and peace of mind are in store
for you. However, you will suffer loss of
wealth if you are running the major Dasa
of Saturn. You are assured of home com- forts and natives who
are schoolchildren would do well at examinations.
Virgo (Kanya)
Your efforts to earn money will succeed.
Your brothers and sisters are a great asset
to you. You are assured of home comforts.
However, you may lose your housing property or the present residence if you running
the major Dasa period of Rahu. This situation holds good only till June 6 this year. The
period up to February 13 is not auspicious
for your children, your eldest in particular.
Libra (Thula)
The planetary positions influencing you
now are such you have the ability to remain
firm and unshaken in the face of formidable
challenges. Mars exalted in the 4th House
brings you lands and property and conveyances. Saturn, the lord of the 4th House occupying the 12th House of Virgo keeps you
away from home and causes you misery. This situation will change
for the better after November 15.Ravi, the lord of the 11th House
now in the 4th House of Capricorn assures you of the loyalty of
spouse and children.
Scorpio (Vrushika)
Sun and Mars in the 2nd House of Capricorn has produced a Rajayoga. This yoga is
effective till February 14. You will experience a landmark success in your career and
gain high recognition for your skills and
professional efforts. You can look forward to
high office if you are in active politics. Your
diligent and righteous life style will pay you
dividends. Acquisition of lands and other property and requirements for a comfortable living is strongly indicated. You may also
inherit wealth from parents and relatives.
Capricorn (Makara)
You are to become a beneficiary of wealth
from wife’s relatives. You may gain fame for
some intellectual attainment. However, the
ongoing period is not auspicious for mother
and father. You are prone to skin diseases
and you are also advised to avoid risk-involved activity at least until February 13.
You are going through a period marked by
dynamism, hope and optimism. Venus in the 11th House assures
you of a steady income and help from loyal friends. You will step
into very auspicious era after June 6 this year.
Aquarius (Kumbha)
Those running the major Dasa period of
Saturn are advised to steer clear of disputes
and conflicts as there is a high possibility
of getting embroiled in litigation. The ongoing period till about mid-February is not
auspicious for you. However, Rahu in the
11th house is capable of nullifying malefic
influences to a great extent. Unemployed
natives may secure a permanent job possibly in the state sector.
Pisces (Meena)
The ongoing period is very auspicious for
you. Mars and Sun in the 11th House has
greatly fortified your present status. Venus in
the powerful trine 9th House of fortune will
bring you fame and wealth and also brings
fortune to your father. There is a strong possibility that an opportunity for travel abroad
will come your way. You will find yourself in
an unusual state of indecision due to developing a passion for sensual pleasures while being gravitated towards religion and spiritual advancement.
Disease planets cause
There is nothing so certain in this world
as death.
Golden boys and girls all must,
Like chimney sweepers come to dust,
says the bard.
Poets the world over have written reams
on death. The following poem by Hemingway brings us down to brass tacks on the
idea of death.
Cowards die many times before their
deaths
The valiant never tastes death but once
Of all the wonders that I have yet heard
It seems to me strange that men fear
Seeing that death a necessary end
Will come when it comes.

Vedic Astrology on death
All religions too talk about death and
life after death. Vedic Astrology too devotes an important part of the science
to death and cause of death. There are
Astrological principles relating to predicting not only death, but also life after death. There are also astrological
theories relating to determining the
‘loka’ (realm) where a person had lived
in his previous birth.
The astrological principles on death
and rebirth propounded by ancient
Maharishis of India are interestingly
similar in certain aspects to what the
Buddha said about them.
Buddhist concept of death
For example, the astrological principle that the birth of a living being is
determined by the force of Karma – the
cumulative effect of good and bad – he
had done in his previous birth is in accord with Buddhism.
India’s highly-respected astrologer
of recent times Dr B Suryanarain Rao
says in his celebrated work ‘Karma and
Chemistry’ that Astrology interprets
what it conceives to be the future of
man as molded by his previous Karma
indicated by the planetary positions at
the time of birth.
Both Buddhism and
Astrology reject fatalism
Buddhism does not subscribe to fatalism either. However, some appear to
believe that Vedic Astrology upholds
Fatalism. But according to India’s renowned astrologer Dr B V Raman, Astrology does not accept Fatalism.- the
belief that what is destined to happen
cannot be prevented Raman says in his
‘Hindu Predictive Astrology’, “Astrology
should not be confused with fatalism….
Ascertaining the length of life beforehand and the nature and the source of
death carefully, it is possible to prevent
many catastrophes and family strife in
this life and if so desired by recourse to
remedies prescribed by the ancient Maharishis. Many times the sudden death
of a person leaves his widow, children
and other dependents in a state of abject poverty……”
Astrology
predicts death
and cause of death
Dr Raman says that a careful study of a
horoscope would show the place and the
source of death, particular diseases which
the native suffers from at the time of
death, unnatural deaths from drowning,
tortures, accidents, attacks by wild beasts,
suicide, murder etc. which can be prevented. Planetary positions at birth would
also indicate the period of unconsciousness before death, the nature of cremation
or burial of the dead body, the nature of
past and future births and the possibility
or otherwise of attaining Moksha.
If no planet occupies or aspects the 8th
House, the lord of the 8th House should be
considered and the disease determined by
the humours indicates by that planet, says
Dr Raman.
According to Ayurveda, maintaining
‘Thridosha’- three
humours (wind, bile and
phlegm) in a state of harmony
ensures good health.
Raman says: “Each Dosha causes diseases and the exact cause of disease
from which a person would die should
be ascertained with reference to humour
attributed to the planet, ruling, posited
in or aspecting the 8th House of a horoscope.

Predicting disease
Thridoshas cause disease
The humour (Dosha) represented by the
planet in the 8th House causes the disease
which leads to death. If many planets occupy the 8th House, the body would be subject
to several attacks resulting from the excess
of various humours (Doshas) indicated by
such powerful planets causing the death.
If the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, or Saturn is in the 8th House
death would result from fire, water, weapons, fever, chronic diseases, thieves, or
starvation respectively.
How and where death occurs
If the 8th House is a movable, a fixed or
a common sign, death would occur in a foreign place, own place or while travelling.
Bile or heat would lead to the development of the disease if the 8th House is aspected by the Sun and if by the Moon the
wind and bile, if by Mars bile and heat, if
by Mercury bile, wind, and phlegm, and if
by Saturn wind.

What the Mounts on the palm
say – Mount of Mars
Numbers that cause
By A.S.Fernando
The Mount of Mars is
two-fold. In fact, there are
two Mounts of Mars in two
separate locations on the
palm. The elevated area
located under the Mount
of Mercury between the
Head and the Heart Lines
is called the Upper Mars or
the Progressive Mars. The
area between the Life line
and the Mount of Venus is
called the Lower Mars or
the Regressive Mars. The
centre of the palm is called
the Plain of Mars.
Each area of Mars has
its special influence which
makes the reading of
Mounts of Mars more difficult than reading other
mounts.
Those in whose hands the
Mounts of Mars are well developed and are more prominent than other Mounts
are called Martians.
The leading characteristics Martians possess are
courage,
self-confidence,
resolution and the ability to
command others.
Division of Martian qualities is represented by the
two Mounts of Mars. Martians are fighters by nature.
They are of two types: those
who fight to defend themselves and those who love to
fight for the fun of it or due
to the natural propensity to
fight.
Those Martians who fight
to defend themselves possess the resistive power and
those who love to fight possess the aggressive power.
Martians who are resistive by nature have a more
prominent Upper Mars and
those possessing the aggres-
If the Mounts of Mars
are hardly noticeable on a
palm, the owner is considered a coward.
The stature of a Martian is above the average.
He is of medium height,
strongly built and looks
capable of looking after
himself. He is energetic,
generous and fond of making friends. Though resolute, he is amenable too.
Opposition or inimical attitude would turn him into
a fierce fighter.
There are bad Martians.
You find them among
drunks and criminals.

sive power are identified by
a more prominent Lower
Mars. Those with equally
developed Upper Mars and
Lower Mars are both resistive and aggressive.
A well-developed Plain of
Mars crossed with many fine
lines show that the owner
is very hot tempered. This
means that a person with
well developed Mounts and
a Plain of Mars crossed with
many fine lines is a very
dangerous person whom you
have to handle with care!

week as usual.
Students of Astrology are advised not to
make predictions after
a superficial examination of a horoscope.
Conclusions
should
be reached following a
thorough examination
of the strengths and
weaknesses of Rashis,
planets and their Shadvargas.
The following should be
borne in mind when judging
a female horoscope:
If there is a benefic
planet in the 7th House of a
female horoscope and he is
aspected by another benefic,
she would be greatly loved
by her husband.
If the Sun aspected by
malefics is posited in the 7th
House, she would eternally
quarrel with her husband.
A female would not have
an attractive figure if the
Lagna and the sign where
the Moon is posited, are occupied by malefic planets
aspected by other malefic
planets.
If exalted Mercury is in
love at first sight
By A S Fernando
Have you ever had the experience
of taking an instant liking for a person whom you met for the first time
in life? Asked this question, most
would immediately say `Yes.”
Similarly we all, no doubt, at
some moment in our life have had
the experience of taking an instant
dislike for no apparent reason for
a person whom we have never met
before.
There can be many factors accounting for our instant attraction
to some unknown person or instant
dislike for a complete stranger at
first sight. The science of Numerology helps us in several ways to
unravel this mystery surrounding
our instant emotional reaction to a
person at first sight.

A peaceful death is a fortune
A competent Astrologer can predict the
disease which causes the death of a person
by the nature of the planet which aspects
the 8th House and the part of the body to
be affected would be that represented by
the 8th House in the division of the Kalapurusha.

pneumonia, cholera, plague, and such
epidemics, haemorrhage, bronchitis,

fever of the brain, small pox, nervous
disorders, whooping cough and assaults.

You are going through very auspicious
period with beneficial planets powerfully
posited while receiving beneficial aspects.
An enhanced income, good reputation
and high recognition in the workplace and
elsewhere are assured. Unmarried natives
are too going through an ideal time to embark on matrimony. Mercury in the 2nd
House has produced a Dhana-yoga. Success at examinations and
contest is in store. However, you have to take measures to protect
your valuable possessions from damage /destruction due to enemy
action or natural causes if you are running the major Dasa period
of Rahu.

YOUR OWN
HOROSCOPE
the 7th House, Mars in Capricorn, and the Moon in Cancer while being aspected by
Jupiter or Venus, the subject
would be a virtuous woman
who would live like a queen
having been given in marriage to a great man.
Husband would not live
long, when Mars and Saturn
occupy the 7th House from
the Leo sign while Mars is
debilitated in the 7th House
from the Lagna.
A female born when
Mercury is exalted in the 7th
House would become an erudite scholar with oratorical
skills.
A female born when
Jupiter is exalted in the 7th
House would be a very virtu-
ous woman, obedient to
husband.
A female born when
Venus is exalted in the
7th House would be a
great lover of fine aesthetic arts and would be
a source of delight and
comfort to her husband.
A female born when
Saturn is exalted in the
7th House, would marry
a very wealthy person.
A female born
when
Rahu is in the 7th House,
would be the wife of a very
powerful person
A female having the
Moon posited in Cancer or
any other sign well associated with Mars, Mercury
and Jupiter would be a great
beauty capable of enchanting even great persons like
royalty.
A female born when Mars
is in Capricorn and Jupiter in
Pisces would marry a celebrity and would occupy a place
of honour in the society.
Husband would not live
long if the Sun, Saturn, and
Mars occupy the Lagna, the
7th House or the 8th House.
According to Numerology, one
reason accounting for our `unreasonable’ and seemingly unaccountable emotional reaction to a stranger at the first encounter is the
AFFINITY or the CLASH between
our basic numbers influencing us
in a subtle way.
Date of birth
The date of birth is one of the
factors that explain our ‘strange’
‘unreasonable’ liking or antipathy
towards an unknown person we
happen to meet. For the immediate
purpose of explaining the affinity
and ‘antipathy’ between numbers,
let us reduce the date of birth into
a basic number without the month
and the year.
Before proceeding further, we
have to understand what a basic
number is and how to reduce a number with several digits into a basic
number.
Numbers 1 to 9 are basic numbers,
because they are the basis for the
formation of all bigger numbers.
We do not include the ‘zero’ because
it represents a negative aspect in
this context.
Reducing a bigger number
into a basic number
Now the question arises as to how
to reduce a larger number having
several digits into a basic number.
Suppose you are asked to reduce
the following number into a basic
number,
34567219.
Add up these figures as follows:
3+4+5+6+7+2+1+9 = 37
Again add up 3+7 = 10
Again add up 1+0 = 1
Numerology – Part 2
Therefore, the basic number of
34567219 is 1
We were discussing the affinity
and antipathy between basic numbers in relation to the date of birth
and applying the basic number rule
to the date of birth overlooking the
month and the year for our immediate purpose. There are a maximum
of 31 days in a month and the question of reducing the 1 to 9 dates to
basic numbers does not arise as
they themselves basic numbers.
The other dates having two digits
each are to be reduced to basic numbers as follows:
10= 1+0 = 1
11= 1+1= 2
12= 1+2= 3
13 = 1+3=4
14 = 1=4=5
15 = 1+5 =6
16 = 1+6= 7
17 = 1+7 =8
18 = 1+8=9
19 = 1+ 9 + 10 = 1+0 =1
Follow this formula up to 31.
In this manner, we can reduce all
birth dates to basic numbers from 1
to 9. For example, a person born on
the 1st, 10th, 19th, or the 28th of the
month becomes a No. 1 person.
Persons born on the 7th, 16th, or
25th of the month become No. 7 people.
According to this numerological
principle, people born on different
days of the month fall into ‘nine basic number’ groups. If you carry out
an experiment with the birth dates
of your friends, you will find a strong
affinity between persons falling into
a particular basic number group.
Numerologists for the purpose of
determining the affinity between
‘different birth date persons’ on a
bigger scale, have further grouped
the nine basic number people as follows:
(1) (a) 1 and 4
(b) 2 and 7
(2) 3,6 and 9
(3) 5
(4) 8
These groupings show No: 1 people have an affinity not only with
other No. 1 people, but also with No.
4 people and vice versa. No. 2 people
have an affinity with No. 7 and vice
versa. No. 3 people have an affinity
with No. 6 and 9 people as well. No.
5 and No. 8 people have no affinity
with ‘other No. people’.
