OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha softball team wraps up its week on the road, returning to Summit
League play taking on Western Illinois this weekend in a series at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium in
Macomb, Ill.
The Mavericks and the Leathernecks square off in doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon,
beginning at noon with the second game scheduled for 2 p.m. The teams then wrap up the series
on Sunday with a single game beginning at 11 a.m.
Omaha is 21-21 on the season and are in second place in the Summit League standings with a
7-1 record.

Leading Off
The Omaha offense leads the Summit League in almost every category. The Mavericks lead the
league in doubles (64), extra base hits (124), hits (322), home runs (48), runs (257), RBI (235),
slugging percentage (.493), triples (12), total bases (554), and walks (128).
The 2016 Mavericks
Senior Sydney Hames leads the Mavericks with a .364 batting average, .671 slugging
percentage, and 94 total bases. The third baseman ranks first in the league in total bases. Hames
is second in hits (51), assists (103), slugging percentage (.671), homeruns (11), and RBI (36). She
is also third in batting average (.364) and fourth in doubles (10).
Junior Nicole Warren’s 41 runs scored, 37 RBI and 113 assists lead the Summit League. Warren
is second in the league with two triples, 11 home runs, and 89 total bases. She has also swiped
six bases on the season. The shortstop has a .292 batting average this season and a .618 slugging
percentage.
Freshman Kourtney Pock is second on the team and fifth in the league with a .344 batting
average including eight doubles and six home runs with 28 RBI. Two of her six homers this season
have been grand slams. Pock earned back-to-back Summit League Player of the Week awards on
March 14th and 21st.

When Referring to the Mavericks
As part of a University-wide rebranding effort that began in 2011, media and fans are reminded
to refer to the school as Omaha, UNO or the University of Nebraska Omaha, not NebraskaOmaha. The new “O” logo is UNO’s primary logo, while the new bull logo is a secondary mark.

Senior catcher Campbell Ditto is hitting .336 on the season with six home runs and 21 RBI. Ditto had
a grand slam against IPFW on April 3. Defensively, she has thrown out nine runners attempting to steal.
Junior outfielder Lia Mancuso leads the team with a .427 on-base percentage. Mancuso has a .311
batting average in 39 games this season with two triples, six doubles, and 10 RBI. Mancuso’s first career
homerun was one to remember as it was of the walk off variety at home against South Dakota State on
April 10.
Sophomore Kelly Pattison leads the team with eight stolen bases in nine attempts. Pattison also has
six home runs and 24 RBI.
Freshman Laura Roecker leads Omaha in the circle with an 11-9 record and a team-low 5.33 ERA in
124.2 innings pitched firing 11 complete games and four shutouts. The right-hander leads the league in
appearances (31) and starts (25). Roecker is second in wins and is fourth in strike outs (66) and innings
pitched. She fired a no hitter on April 6 at home against Drake, for the second UNO no hitter of the
season. Roecker has earned two Summit League Pitcher of the Week honors this season on March 14th
and 28th.
Abbie Clanton is second team with 29 appearances (11 starts). Clanton is 8-9 on the season with a
5.49 ERA with 56 strikeouts, including firing a no-hitter at Northern Colorado on March 8.
The Mavericks are led by 17th year head coach Jeanne Scarpello. Scarpello is the program’s winningest
coach with a career mark of 675-253-1. Coach Scarpello led UNO to the 2001 NCAA Division II National
Title and was part of the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year. During the Division II era, she was
a two-time MIAA Coach of the Year (2010, 2011) and a four-time NCC Coach of the Year (2001, 2004,
2006, 2008). Her teams made 12 straight NCAA DII Tournament appearances (2000-2011) while earning
eight conference regular-season championships and five conference tournament championships. Coach
Scarpello picked up her 500th career win on Feb. 20, 2011 against Texas A&M International.
WESTERN ILLINOIS LEATHERNECKS
Series Record:
Omaha leads the all-time series against Western Illinois, 9-4. Last season in Omaha, the Leathernecks
took two of three games to end the 2015 season. WIU took Saturday’s single game by the score of 5-3
and split Sunday’s doubleheader losing game one to UNO, 10-5, and winning the finale, 2-1.
Scouting the Leathernecks:
Western Illinois is currently 10-26 (3-3 Summit League) and sit in fourth place in the Summit League
standings heading into the weekend. Last time out, WIU lost a non-conference doubleheader to SIU-E
by the scores of 3-0 and 4-1. In league play, they have taken two of three games from South Dakota
State, but dropped two of three at South Dakota.
Offensively, Kelsey Marlow is leading the way for the Leathernecks with a .327 batting average. The
sophomore is slugging .482 with 36 hits, 10 doubles, 18 RBI and is currently on an 11 game hitting
streak. Karissa Kouchis is batting .320 with 39 hits, 16 runs and three doubles.
In the circle, Emily Ira has compiled a 5-11 record with 104 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.07. Kacyee Hart
is 2-11 on the season with a 6.78 ERA and 36 strikeouts.
Holly Van Vlymen is in her 11th season at the helm of Western Illinois softball. Van Vlymen owns a
232-282-2 career mark and has been named Summit League Coach of the Year three times.
Keys to Victory
Omaha bucked a trend on Thursday afternoon against Iowa State. The Mavericks were 5-17 on the
season when the opposition scored first, but UNO scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning for
the win.
This season, Omaha is 15-4 when scoring first and 18-2 when they outhit the opposition. The Mavs
are 16-3 when scoring six or more runs.
On Deck
The Mavericks welcome North Dakota to Westside Field at Westbrook for a non-conference twin bill
on Tuesday, April 19. The doubleheader is set to start at 4 p.m. Next weekend, Omaha returns to Summit
League play with a three-game set against South Dakota. On Saturday, April 23, UNO and USD will play

On the National Scene
The Omaha offense is making some noise on the national scene. The Mavericks are 26th nationally in home
runs per game (1.15), 28th in scoring (6.12 runs per game), 39th in slugging percentage (.494), and 15th in
triples per game.
Nicole Warren and Sydney Hames rank 35th in the nation in home runs. Laura Roecker is 30th nationally in
shutouts.
Hames Leading Mavericks’ Offense
Sydney Hames had stepped up during her senior season to be a team leader at the plate. The Bennington,
Neb. native is leading Omaha with a .364 batting average and a .671 slugging percentage. She also has a teambest 10 doubles, 51 hits, and 94 total bases.
Hames ranks in the top five in seven different statistical categories in the Summit League, including leading
the league in total bases.
Finding Her Stride
Every week it seems, freshman Kourtney Pock is raising her batting average. After the midweek contest at
Iowa State, the freshman is second on the team with a .344 average and a .633 slugging percentage. Following
the Colorado State Classic, Pock was batting .136 with three RBI. Since that time she is hitting .412 with six
home runs and 25 RBI.
Her 14 game hitting streak came to an end against South Dakota State, but Pock’s streak of reaching base 22
straight times is still intact. During the streak, the Scottsdale, Ariz. native has hit two grand slam home runs
and twice been named the Summit League player of the Week.
Extra Base Machine
Over half of junior Nicole Warren’s hits this season have been of the extra-base variety. In fact, the Omaha
native is second in the Summit League in home runs with 11 and triples with two. She also has 10 doubles this
year and leads the league in RBI with 37.
No-no, No-no
This season the Omaha pitching staff has thrown two no-hitters. Laura Roecker threw her first career nohitter against Drake on April 6. Abbie Clanton threw the first no-hitter of the season against Northern Colorado
on March 8.
Since 2000, Maverick pitchers have thrown 19 no-hitters, including one perfect game. Taren Tuley threw five
no hitters between 2004-6. Lindsey Slocum threw the only perfect game against Missouri Southern on March
28, 2010. Since the transition to Division I, Omaha has three no-no’s with the first coming against North Dakota
on April 22, 2014 by Dana Elsasser.
Missouri Southern, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Upper Iowa have each been no-hit twice by Omaha
pitchers.
Last Time Out: Iowa State
Omaha softball rallied from a 4-0 first inning deficit Thursday, roaring back to defeat Iowa State 6-4 in Ames.
Iowa State struck first with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cathlin Bingham and Aly Cappaert
each drew one out walks. Kelsey McFarland singled through the right side moving Cappaert to third and
scoring Bingham. McFarland moved to third and Cappaert came in to score as Nychole Antillon reached on an
infield hit. ISU added another run as McFarland scored on a passed ball. Sammie Hilbreth doubled down the
left field line to bring Antillon home.
Omaha scored three runs in the top of the third to cut the Iowa State lead to a run, 4-3. Lia Mancuso singled
through the right side before Nicole Warren drew a walk. Sydney Hames drove a 3-2 offering from Iowa State
starter Savannah Sanders over the left center wall for a three-run homer.
The score remained 4-3 until the top half of the seventh inning. Back-to-back doubles from Mancuso and

Warren tied the game, 4-4. Hames hit the next pitch through the left side to give Omaha runners on first
and third with no outs. Following an ISU pitching change, Campbell Ditto singled to center field to score
Warren. Ditto and pinch runner Kylie Schwarting moved to second and third respectively on a wild pitch.
Schwarting was able to score as Kourtney Pock reached on an error by the ISU third baseman.
The Mavericks took a 6-4 lead to the bottom of the seventh. Laura Roecker retired the first two ISU
batters of the frame before hitting Bingham. Roecker then retired the next batter to give Omaha the win.
Roecker (11-9) pitched her 11th complete game of the season to earn the victory, allowing four runs on

Hames led the Mavericks at the plate going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Ditto and Pock each
went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Warren had a double, scored two runs and drove in another, while Mancuso was
3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Academic Excellence
The Omaha softball teams earned recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Tuesday,
Oct. 13, for academic excellence as one Top-15 Academic Teams in Division I. The announcement by the
NFCA marks the third straight season the Mavericks have cracked the top-15 and led the Summit League in
grade point average.
Boasting an impressive 3.509 GPA, the team ranked 11th in all of Division I and the highest of any Summit
League school. Lipscomb took the top spot, holding a division-best 3.654 GPA while Grand Canyon (3.640),
and DePaul (3.640) rounded out the top three. Western Illinois was the other Summit League school to
make the list, finishing 78th with a GPA of 3.209.

A Weekend to Remember
Omaha had 39 hits, including 10 home runs, and 12 stolen bases as they scored 57 runs in a three-game
set against IPFW. Abbie Clanton picked up two wins in three appearances, while allowing only one run and
four hits with 11 strike outs. Sydney Hames hit .700 with three homers, seven RBI, and nine runs scored.
Lizzie Noble hit .625 with a homer, two stolen bases, six RBI, and nine runs scored.
Campbell Ditto and Kelly Pattison each hit grand slam home runs during the series. Pattison hit .455
with seven runs scored, two home runs, and three stolen bases, while driving in 11 over the three-game
set. Kourtney Pock homered in three straight games.
Clanton, Hames Earn Summit League Weekly Awards
Abbie Clanton was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Sydney Hames was
tabbed Summit League Player of the Week for their performances during the week of March 28-April 3.
Clanton earned her first career Summit League Pitcher of the Week honor by appearing in all three
Omaha wins (one start) over the weekend at Fort Wayne, finishing with a 2-0 record. She allowed only one
run on four hits in 10.1 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts and posting a 0.68 ERA. In her lone start, Clanton
pitched a complete game allowing only one run on three hits.
Hames picked up her second Summit League Player of the Week award this season by hitting .700 (7for-10) over the weekend. She finished the week with a .800 on-base percentage and a 1.700 slugging
percentage along with three home runs and seven RBI without striking out.
Hames also picked up her second College Sports Madness Summit League Player of the Week honor this
week.
Roecker Repeats
Freshman pitcher Laura Roecker has been named the Summit League Pitcher of the Week for her
performance during the week of March 21-27. Roecker earned her second weekly award by picking up a
win and a save in Friday’s doubleheader against IUPUI.
In Friday’s first game, Rocker pitched her eighth complete game to improve to 7-9 on the season. She
finished the game allowing two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out three. In the second
game of the doubleheader, she retired the Jaguars in order in the seventh to earn her first career save.
Pock Repeats Honors
Freshman Kourtney Pock repeated as the Summit League and College Sports Madness Summit League
Player of the Week honors.
Pock batted .375 for the week and racked up 10 RBI and 14 total bases while slugging .875 with a .412
on-base percentage. She belted her first two career grand slams during the week, including one against
No. 23 Nebraska. The freshman has hit in five straight games and reached base safely in 11 straight.
Pock, Roecker Sweep Weekly Awards
Kourtney Pock was named Summit League Player of the Week while teammate Laura Roecker garnered
the league’s Pitcher of the Week award for their performances during the week of March 7-13.
Pock earned her first career Summit League Player of the Week honor registering two base hits in five
straight games on her way to batting .500 (10-for-20) on the week. She went 4-for-7 in a doubleheader
sweep of Northern Colorado and hit her first collegiate home run against Missouri State. She posted an
impressive slash line of .500/.524/.750 during the week with six RBI and seven runs scored. Pock also
garnered College Sports Madness Summit League Player of the Week honors as well.
Roecker picked up her first Summit League Pitcher of the Week honor going 3-0 in the circle for the
Mavericks last week. She threw two three-hit complete games wins in consecutive appearances against
Northern Colorado and Missouri State. Roecker tossed another complete-game win over UMKC, striking
out a career-best seven batters. For the week, she went 3-0 with 12 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.12 in 24.0
innings pitched.

to Division I and are fully eligible to compete in the conference
tournament and the NCAA Tournament.
Hames Earns Weekly Honors
Senior third baseman Sydney Hames was named Summit League Player of the Week for her
performances during the week of Feb. 8-14. She was also named the College Sports Madness
Summit League Player of the Week.
Hames earned her first career Summit League Player of the Week award as she helped the
Mavericks to a 3-2 record at the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. For the week, she hit
.500 with a 1.056 slugging percentage, including three home runs and nine RBI. Hames had at
least one hit in each of the Mavericks five games, including three hits and five RBI in a victory
over UC Santa Barbara and two home runs against Southern Utah.
Getting Defensive with Ditto
Omaha senior catcher Campbell Ditto is already one of the Mavericks’ most effective defensive
players of all-time, and when her career is over, she may have some legendary statistics.
Currently, Ditto ranks first in school history in baserunners thrown-out with 40, 15 more than
second all-time. Ditto ranks first in runners picked off with seven. She also has a career fielding
percentage of .990, which puts her 6th all-time.
Trio Breaking into the Record Book
Sydney Hames, Lizzie Noble and Nicole Warren have entered the Omaha all-time record book
this season. The trio are now in the Top 25 all-time in home runs. Warren is currently tied for
11th with 21 dingers, while Noble is tied for 15th all-time with 17 homers. Hames, who has 11
homers this season, is tied for 24th all-time with 14 dingers.
Defensive Gem
Senior Tara Trede is having a fantastic season at second base. The Maverick second baseman
has committed just four errors in 154 chances, good enough for a .974 fielding pct. She has
committed one error in the last 28 games. She has moved into a tie for 13th place all-time in
assists (351).
Ditto Chasing More Records
Ditto is not only known for her defensive prowess, she is also dangerous at the plate.
Currently, she ranks fourth all-time in home runs with 32. Her career .573 slugging percentage
in 527 career at bats ranks her eighth all-time. Not only does Ditto hit for power, she also has a
keen eye at the plate drawing 81 career walks, which ranks fourth all time. The senior also ranks
in the top 25 in four other categories.
What’s at Stake in 2016
Omaha has completed the transition to NCAA Division I and is fully eligible for NCAA and
Summit League postseason play.
The Mavericks are looking for their first-ever trip to the Summit League tournament. This
season tournament will be played in Fargo, North Dakota on the home field of North Dakota
State, last season’s regular season champion.
Mavericks Picked Fourth
The Omaha softball team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2016 Summit League
Preseason Softball Coaches’ Poll. The poll was voted on by the league’s seven head coaches, and
they could not vote for their own team.
North Dakota State has been tabbed as the Summit League’s top team in 2016. The Bison,
who were 45-11 overall and 16-2 in the league a year ago, received five first-place votes and
35 total points. IUPUI received 29 points and the other two first-place votes for second. South
Dakota came in third with 27 points after finishing 28-25-1 overall and 13-4 in the conference
last season. Omaha is fourth in the poll with 20 points. South Dakota State is picked to finish
fifth with 16 points, while Western Illinois is sixth with 14 points. Fort Wayne rounds out the
poll in seventh place with six points.
Omaha welcomes back two all-league members, including 2015 Summit League Freshman of the Year Megan May and first team performer Lizzie Noble. In all,
the Mavs return eight position starters.
The 2016 season marks Omaha’s first with full NCAA Division I and Summit League postseason eligibility.
A Look at the 2016 Schedule
In 2016, the Mavericks are scheduled to face six teams that advanced to the NCAA postseason. Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Nebraska, and Summit League
champion North Dakota State, who all made NCAA Regional appearances, are on the Mavericks’ schedule. The Bulldogs, Gators and Wildcats all advanced to the
NCAA Super Regionals last season. The Gators are two-time defending national champions.
Omaha will play its first 31 games away from home before hosting Summit League foe IUPUI on March 25-26. The Mavericks will play six home series, three
conference and three non-conference.

Five high school seniors have signed NLIs to play for the Mavericks in 2017: infielder Sierra Athow (Gretna, Neb.), infielder/outfielder Hailey Bartz (Lincoln, Neb.),
