Rod Bloomfield Josée Brunatti Rodney Dixon 1969 MacTier ‘Legionnaires’ Athlete Athlete Builder Team Born in Bracebridge Ontario, Roderick Alan Bloomfield, known as ‘Boomer’ began his Professional Hockey Career with the Brunswick Juniors in Parry Sound. His career landed him with the NAHL Broom Dusters in Binghamton New York, where in 338 regular season games spanning five seasons he scored more goals and more points than any player in Binghamton hockey history and was awarded the NAHL MVP award twice. Rod was the double and did most of the skating scenes for actor Paul Newman in the movie ‘Slap Shot’. Born in Quebec, Josée’s professional athletic career in Natural Bodybuilding began much later in life than usual when she moved to Parry Sound and began work at New Life Fitness. At 39 years old she competed successfully against women in their 20’s winning Northern Ontario’s “Miss Fitness” and a Provincial Level championship in 2001 and placing 2nd in the Canadian Natural Bodybuilding Federation national World Qualifier in 2002. Following her retirement from the professional ranks, Josée has applied her training and skills to help others. She lives in Parry Sound with her family and works as a Manager and Personal Trainer at New Life Fitness. Rod Dixon was a major part of Parry Sound Minor Hockey for almost 23 years. Coach, manager, and trainer, he loved being behind the scenes managing the kids and teams to victories silently, proudly and with dedication. A member of the OMHA club executive for 17 years, Rod’s community service extended well beyond minor hockey. To this day, Rod continues to give unselfishly of his time to help make the Parry Sound-Muskoka area a better community. The 1969 MacTier Legionnaires Fastball Team were made up of a group of friends and teammates who practiced to perfection for the love of the game. With Ron Blanchard as captain and second baseman, Merle Pegahmagabow catching and John Young on the mound, coach Sandy Heidman and manager Aub Allsop put the boys through rigorous training and created one of the best infields in Mactier fastball history. In 1969 this team swept through league and district championships to bring home the 1969 Juvenile Provincial Crown. Current Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Members Bobby Orr Hall of Fame The Bobby Orr Hall of Fame opened in July 2003 as a permanent tribute honouring Parry Sound’s outstanding athletes, teams and builders of sport, including the Town’s most famous son, Bobby Orr. Established to preserve the rich history of sports in Parry Sound, the Hall exhibits photographs, videos, and sports artifacts. The first floor celebrates the career of Bobby Orr. Exhibits include Bobby Orr’s Stanley Cup and Canada Cup rings, the hockey stick and puck he used to score the winning goal for the 1970 Stanley Cup, his original contract with the Boston Bruins, a number of Orr’s trophies, his Canada Cup jersey and much more. The second floor celebrates the careers of other sports greats with ties to the Parry Sound area. The current year’s inductees are each honoured with a display of artifacts from their careers. Also on the second floor are a number of interactive games including two small rinks where visitors can shoot the puck at full-size projections of famous goalies, or become a goalie themselves. The Bobby Orr Hall of Fame recognizes and honours achievement in competitive sport and its development. It keeps this legacy alive for the inductees, the sport community and future generations through celebration, public exhibition and preservation of our sport heritage.
