Archipelago
For 500 years European adventurers had set sail to find the
theortical Northwest passage, a route through the Canadian
Arctic Archipelago from the Atlantic to the pacific ocean.

Many renowned explorers tried and failed to
establish a navigable route, some losing their lives
and that of their crews, when the seasons closed in
and their boats became icebound.
These adventurers were forced to dig in and try to
survive the harshest weather on the planet waiting
for the thaw of spring.
The British were determined to be the first
to establish the existence of a Northwest passage
with famous early expeditions of Cook and Franklin.
Norwegian Roald Amundsen in his Sloop Gjøa
became first to successfully navigate the Archipelago
in 1906.
What was initially a search for a faster trade
route to the new world in the East, has now
become one of the extreme challenges that
today’s sailors seek to conquer.
Many modern day navigations of the
Northwest passage have taken place with
the sailors trusting Musto’s iconic HPX
offshore range as the apparel of choice for
this extreme environment.
Even with the advent of global warming
it was only September this year that the
first large sea freighter sailed through the
North West Passage.
ARTIC PRO PARKA
Our key story for A/W 2014 takes inspiration
from the endeavours of these brave explorers
and considers the extremes they faced in the
Arctic Archipelago, combining this with the
DNA and details of our iconic offshore sailing
apparel, to engineer a line of outerwear to
conquer this autumn winter season.
Photoluminescent
Reflectors
Developed during the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race,
Photoluminescent reflectors work by absorbing
light during the day, ‘charging’ the reflectors which
then act as a glow in the dark light source during
the night. These new and improved reflectors help
to improve night time visibility, enhancing safety
when torches are not always close to hand.
GORE-TEX®
Shell Fabric
Ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities, this
2 layer GORE-TEX® membrane is bonded to
the outer fabric only. This construction offers
increased comfort and versatility, superior
breathability, increased durability and enhanced
waterproof qualities.
Coyote Fur
Real coyote fur trim around the hood, with pop
off feature for ease of washing, offers ultimate
performance properties. Real fur does not retain
water which stops the hood weighing down
and restricting vision. It also does not freeze in
extreme cold, and the mixed lengths of the hair
act as a protective barrier to exposed skin on the
face. The position of the fur at the edge of the
hood helps to trap air around the face, helping to
increase warmth for the head and face.
Inner stretch
cuff with
thumb loop
Stretch inner cuffs offer enhanced levels of
warmth by trapping air inside the jacket, as well
as excluding drafts riding up the arms making
the wearer cold. Using the thumb loop helps to
prevent weather ingress in conditions where snow,
wind and rain can travel up the sleeve.
Primaloft®
Wadding
Primaloft® Gold Blend is a mix of Primaloft® ultrafine fibres and water-repellent down, retaining
95% warmth even when wet. Primaloft® Gold
Blend dries 4 times faster than untreated down
and absorbs 9 times less water, making this
product highly water resistant and quick drying.
Offering high warmth to weight ratio, this high
loft product has a luxurious hand feel and high
compressibility.
Shoulder
grab straps
Shoulder grab straps are a new feature to the
Musto Evolution collection helping to aid safety
and rescue should a team member come into
trouble.
