Hürriyet Houses (Van earthquake) • Hürriyet realized the grand project on the third day of Van earthquake that shook Turkey deeply. Being a partner with the Red Crescent, the aim of the project was to build a Hürriyet Quarter in Erciş, Van. Thanks to TRY 2.000.000 donated by Hürriyet, Kanal D, and Doğan Holding, approximately 600 container houses that are designed to meet the necessity of a family have been supplied to those in need. These houses are consisted of a bedroom, a bathroom, a restroom and a kitchen. In the mentioned quarter called Hürriyet, there are nearly thirty avenues which are named after the biggest donors. Recycling Project Increasing literacy, Hürriyet newspaper has realized a new social responsibility project which shall be an example for the society aiming to contribute to the economy, to preserve natural resources and to reduce air pollution. Between 07 October 2013 and 31 October 2013, a newspaper of the day was given to those who brought three old Hürriyet newspapers at nearly 30.000 points of sale. During these 24 days, we have collected 1.200.218 newspapers and we have given 400.000 free newspapers in return. The weight of those collected newspapers was 216 ton and 3.672 trees, henceforth, are saved thanks to this. Then, Hürriyet donated TRY 67.887 which we gained during the process to TEMA Foundation in order to contribute Turkey’s natural assets. He who brings three Hürriyet newspapers shall get a newspaper bearing the date of that very day. Soma Imagines • The «Soma Imagines» project concerning Soma mine disaster is a social responsibility project that came true via Hürriyet newspaper and its news with the contributions of multiple sponsors. • This is a project which has intentions of making children of the martyrized miners smile and of creating social sensibility concerning the disaster, and of making the Turkish society remember what happened in the first anniversary of the event which took place in Soma, Turkey. In the scope of this project, we have reached those 301 miners’ children who are not of age and we have asked them to express their dreams, then we published them all. • Hürriyet newspaper’s readers have made the dreams of the majority real. However, municipalities and other foundations took place in the process of realizing the dreams of some children (e.g.; travelling and seeing new places). THANK YOU!
