Santiago de Chile: Host of the United Buddy Bears
______________________________________________________________
Santiago de Chile gave the 2m tall bears of the United Buddy Bears exhibition a warm welcome.
The exhibition was presented at the Parque Bicentenario between 23rd April and 19th June 2015
Because the German Embassy in Santiago de Chile took the initiative to present the Buddy Bears in
Chile, this unifying international project had the opportunity to add Santiago de Chile to the map of
its global tour. The Chilean municipality Vitacura and the Galería Artium – the latter also playing a
major role in the auction at the end of the exhibition – also supported the project.
Charity
EUR 2,085,000 have been generated by Buddy Bear activities in aid of UNICEF and many local
children’s relief organisations up to now. (Reference date: August 2015).
The latest auction at the Galería Artium in Santiago de Chile and a generous amount from the
previous United Buddy Bears exhibition in Havana have contributed to this fantastic result.
The latest beneficiaries were the children’s relief organisation Foundation Cristo Vive in Santiago
de Chile and the Centre for children with disabilities in Havana.
Buddy Bear Event in Malta
During his state visit, German Federal President Joachim Gauck was welcomed with an official ceremony by the President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. As a joint initiative of the Maltese President and the German Embassy in Valletta (Malta), a Buddy Bear event took place. Maltese students
had painted a 2m tall bear that was unveiled at this event. In addition, schoolchildren demonstrated
their drawing skills and designed little Buddy Bear artworks.

News in brief
Kazan’s Mayor visit the
United Buddy Bears Exhibition
İlsur Metşin, Mayor of the Russian city Kazan, visited the
exhibition United Buddy Bears - The Minis shown in Kazan from 1st July until 31st August.
He congratulated 17-year old Mia Musina, who had won
the event’s competition with her design of a 1m tall bear.
The famous Russian composer Igor Krutoy was present
during this visit and very pleased for the young winner.
The bear – designed in a style that is typical of the region
- will remain in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan and
move into the city hall.
Buddy Bear welcomes Expo visitors in Milan
Until 31st October, visitors of the Expo 2015 “Feeding the
Planet, Energy for Life“ in Milan can have their photo
taken with the bright red, fluorescent Buddy Bear. What
makes this bear so special is only visible in the evening:
The subtle silhouettes (Brandenburg Gate & TV Tower)
and the varnish with an additional white base coat are
phosphorescent and glow in the dark. Sponsor of the Expo Buddy Bear is the Berlin Partner for Business and
Technology GmbH.
Six Buddy Bears for Hohenschönhausen
To mark the anniversary “30 years of Hohenschönhausen“, the housing association HOWOGE
announced a Buddy Bear design competition. Six Buddy
Bears were created and officially handed over to the Berlin district of Hohenschönhausen on 12th June in the
course of the festival ‘Art on House Fronts’ in the
presence of Andreas Geisel (Senator for Urban Development and the Environment) and Birgit Monteiro (District
Mayor of Lichtenberg).
Green Buddy Award 2015
On 19th November, the search for companies serving as
role models with their exemplary commitment to sustainable
and ecologically sound development is moving into its fifth
round. Since 2011, the Berlin district of TempelhofSchöneberg has presented the GREEN BUDDY AWARD in
cooperation with the Buddy Bär Berlin GmbH. The 2015
award is marked by innovation: More award categories
have been added and the search for potential award
winners takes place across district boundaries.
