in their dispatch office on a big wheel. A brief bio of the

Book Lovers Day, August 9th, encourages you to find a place in the shade to relax with a good
book. Book reading is a great hobby. It's an important one, too. Employers look for it on resumes.
Reading is educational, informative, and relaxing. It makes us both smarter, and happier people.
Columbus Day is an United States observance that is celebrated each year on the
second Monday in October. The day celebrates Christopher Columbus’ arrival to
America on October 12, 1492.
Colorado celebrated in 1906 when Columbus Day became an official state holiday in
their state. It then grew and soon became a federal holiday in the United States in
1937, though people had been celebrating Columbus’ voyage since the colonial
period. In 1792, there were celebrations in New York City and other US cities,
celebrating the 300th anniversary of his landing in the New World. President
Benjamin Harrison called upon the people of the United States to join together in
celebration of Columbus Day on the 400th anniversary of the event. During the
anniversary in 1892, teachers, preachers, poets and politicians used Columbus Day
rituals to teach ideals of patriotism. These patriotic teachings were framed around
themes of support for war, citizenship boundaries, the importance of loyalty to the
nation and celebrating social progress.

Labor Day
Observed on the first
Monday in September,
Labor Day pays tribute
to the contributions and achievements of
American workers. It was created by the
labor movement in the late 19th century
and became a federal holiday in 1894.
Labor Day also symbolizes the end of
summer for many Americans, and is
celebrated with parties, parades and
athletic events.

Employee Spotlight
Summer Mayberry
I started working for Rides in February 2006 at the Wayne Co. office in Fairfield
as a Dispatcher, in 2008 I transferred to the White Co. office in Carmi and became
Lead Dispatcher. After the new facility in Grayville opened we moved to the new
building. My time in Fairfield and Grayville has left me with a lot of fond
memories, and I've had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people in
both offices.
In February 2015 I took a different path with Rides. I applied and was offered the
position of Training/Safety Coordinator. In June I left my comfort zone of dispatching and transferred to Harrisburg where I have been trying to learn as much as
possible. In the short time that I have been in the Saline/Williamson area I have
been welcomed by all. I look forward to working with everyone else throughout
the district and meeting staff.
