THE SCHOOL
Actilangue
Actilangue was established in 1977 by Paul
Ceccaldi, the Executive Director. Mélissa
Spadaro is the Director of Studies. The
Actilangue language courses are conducted solely
in French by experienced instructors.
The school building was built at the end of the 19th
century and it is located in a pleasant area full of
cafes, restaurants, shops and boutiques. The
reception office is on the left of the main entrance,
the waiting room on the right side.
There are coffee and cool drink machines. The school
occupies the first floor. It has 10 rooms, 6 classrooms. In
the teacher’s room, there is a library and audio-video
material. Students have free internet WI-FI access.
Actilangue rents during the summer several classrooms
close to the main building.
The location
The school building is located in the heart of Nice, near the Hotel Negresco. The beach and the
famous Promenade des Anglais are only a two minute walk away.
There is a post office next to the school. It is open Monday through Friday non-stop from 8:00 till 18:00
and from 8:00 till noon on Saturday. Around the school, the student will find a school book-shop, a
kiosk, a tobacco store (for bus tickets and telephone cards), a bank, a supermarket.

The teachers
Mélissa Spadaro is the Director of studies and she is a teacher for Actilangue since 2007. She is
responsible of the organisation of the classes, the recruitment of new teachers and their education and
professional training. Mélissa Spadaro is co-author of the Actilangue’s books.
All teachers are University graduates and have post-graduate qualifications and experience in
teaching French as a foreign language. Most also have other areas of expertise (literature, art, history,
etc.). In addition to this the teachers are selected for their ability to stimulate students in their studies
of French. The average age of the teacher team is between 25 and 35 years. All teachers are motivated
and dynamic. Most of them work many years for Actilangue.
Accreditations
Actilangue is registered as a private institute of higher education by the Ministry of National
Education. Actilangue is referenced in the Language School Directory published by the “Agence de
promotion du FLE” in France.
Actilangue is accredited for the “Bildungsurlaub” in Germany (Hamburg, Hessen, Berlin,
Niedersachsen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Brandenburg, Saarland) and by the CSN in Sweden.

GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION
Language Teaching Methods
The latest direct teaching methods are applied in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere guaranteeing
optimum intensity and maximum individuality. All students use materials developed by Actilangue
(included in the course price). A special feature of the Actilangue program is the emphasis on
conversational French. Students in the intensive courses have either one or two lessons in small
conversation groups. Students are grouped by age and mutual interests in addition to their knowledge
of French in such a way that conversation focuses on topics of interest to all.
The Actilangue Programme
Placement in the different courses is based on a personal interview and a written test. At all levels,
emphasis is placed on the practical use of spoken and written French. The language is learned in
realistic situations, reinforced by appropriate background information on the French way of life.
Course I - Almost beginners.
Goal: Learning the fundamentals, acquiring basic vocabulary, learning principal verbs and tenses as
well as simple sentence structure.
Course BI - Students whose knowledge of French ranges from fair to intermediate.
Goal: A quick brushing up of the fundamentals, increasing the basic vocabulary by means of primary
verbs and tenses, more work on simple oral and written sentence structure. Course
BII - Intermediate students.
Goal: Mastering intermediate and advanced sentence structure, intensive work on oral and written
expression, expanding the vocabulary.
Course C - Advanced students.
Goal: Reading and analysing various texts, improving the facility of the language, becoming more
closely acquainted with the linguistic content of the French language.
LESSONS: 45 minutes each.
CLASS SIZE MORNINGS: 6 to 12 students.
CLASS SIZE AFTERNOONS: 4 to 8 students.
STUDENTS
16 years and over (no age limit) are accepted. The student body is primarily European (over 12
nationalities). Participants come from a variety of backgrounds - students (undergraduate and
graduate), business people, teachers and professors, physicians and attorneys, senior citizens, and
tourists, etc.
KNOWLEDGE OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE
Absolute beginners can be accepted only for Private Courses (one-to-one tuition).
CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE
This certificate states the type of course and the number of weeks. Students, parents, or employers can
obtain a signed report on attendance, work, and progress on application to the Principal.
THE TUITION FEES INCLUDE
Grading test, tuition according to the type of course, teaching aid, certificate of attendance.
The school is CLOSED from the DECEMBER 16, 2017 to JANUARY 7, 2018. The office is open
all year round. Bank holidays (no lesson): 17.04., 01.05., 25.05., 14.07., 15.08., 01.11.2017.

STANDARD AND INTENSIVE COURSES

absolute beginners. No registration fee.
Course No 1, STANDARD COURSE: 20 lessons per week, 4 lessons daily from 8.45 a.m. to
12.00 p.m. - Monday through Friday.
An ideal combination of learning and vacationing. The morning course offers a complete programme
of instruction: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Study of grammar and discussions.
Course No 2, HALF INTENSIVE COURSE: 25 lessons per week, 5 lessons daily from 8.45 a.m.
to 12.50 p.m. - Monday through Friday.
Same programme as the course No 1 + one lesson each day for training in oral french.
Course No 3, HIGH INTENSIVE COURSE: 30 lessons per week, 6 lessons daily from 8.45 a.m.

D E L F - "Diplôme d'Etudes de Langue Française"
The D.E.L.F. diplomas are the official French Diplomas for foreigners, issued by the "Ministère
de l'Education Nationale". They are organised in France and in every country where France has
an official representation. The Diplomas are certified by the Ministry and delivered locally by the
Educational Academy. To prepare this exam, the student is required to have a good command of basic
grammatical structures and intermediate skills corresponding to a 4-year school education.

VISIT of NICE (the old city and the castle)
The tour starts from the school in direction to the old city (Vieux-Nice) along the Promenade des Anglais. View of the opera,
the "Hôtel de Ville" and the famous market place "Cours Saleya" very busy every day except Monday. Pleasant walk through
the small streets and up to the castle with a panoramic view over the city and the bay (Baie des Anges). The tour ends at
18:30.
Wednesday afternoon: Meeting at ACTILANGUE at 14:00
SCUBA DIVING (Easter/Summer)
Meeting for all the participants (in good health and without any ear problem) at the "Centre Nautique" at 15:00. Technical
course during 30 minutes. Equipment will be given according to the weight and the size. The boat "René Madeleine" takes all
participants outside Nice to Cap Ferrat. Everyone dives 5 to 8 meters deep together with a certified instructor. Back in Nice
between 17:30 and 18:30 depending on the number of participants.
Saturday afternoon : Meeting at ACTILANGUE at 13:00
BOWLING (Easter)
Bowling Nice Acropolis is one of the largest bowling centres in France: 30 lanes,
scores displayed on huge monitors, eight pool tables, video games, a snack bar and
bowling equipment shop.
WINDSURFING (Summer)
Short trip to Cros de Cagnes (West if Nice) where the "Centre Nautique" is located. It
has a specific water area for learning windsurfing. The technical course and a show are
given by several certified instructors. Back in Nice around 17:00.
Sunday (full day): Meeting at the NICE TRAIN STATION at 9:00
EXCURSION to MONACO/MONTE-CARLO
Walk on the Rock (le Rocher), the historic core of the principality and visit of the Cathedral and the Prince's Palace.
Possibility to visit the Oceanographic Museum (splendid aquarium). Walk down to the port and through a part of the Grand
Prix circuit. Visit of the modern city of Monte-Carlo with luxurious boutiques, hotels and the famous Casino. Possibility to
spend one or two hours at the Larvotto beach. Back in Nice around 18:00.
Tuesday afternoon : Meeting at the TRAIN STATION at 12:45
EXCURSION to ANTIBES (Picasso museum - old city - beach)
Arrival at the main station in Antibes and walk along the port in direction to the old
city. Visit of the Picasso Museum located inside the Grimaldi Castle. Pleasant walk
in the small streets of the old town and on the ramparts. Splendid view over the sea
and the mountains. Back in Nice around 18:30.
Thursday afternoon : Meeting at ACTILANGUE at 13:00
EXCURSION to ÈZE-VILLAGE
Fortified old hill village located on the Riviera east of Nice. Visit of the village with
splendid views on the Cap Ferrat, the sea and the Corniche road. Possibility to buy
local products and souvenirs. Visit of the perfumes factory Fragonard. Back in Nice
around 18:00.

ACCOMMODATION
Family
All homes are carefully inspected. Actilangue provides comfortable homes in safe, middle to upper
class neighbourhoods that are located between 5 to 20 minutes from the institute by foot or by bus.
Most of the host families live close to the school (about 80%). So the student can walk to the school. It
is not necessary to use the city public transportation. The different types of host families are: a couple
with children, a couple without children, a single lady with children, a single lady. Most of them are
non-smoking families. The vegetarian diet is usually accepted.
Both single and double rooms are available with breakfast, half and full board options. We
recommend the room with half board (breakfast and dinner) because eating with the family will give the
opportunity to practise the French language. On the first day, the host family will show the students how
to get to Actilangue.

Residence AZUR CAMPUS (for Students & Adults)
The Residence is centrally located 15 minutes walking distance to the beach and about 25 minutes
walking distance to the school. Each flat is fully-furnished and equipped: kitchenette with hotplate and
cooker hood, fridge, microwave, crockery, bathroom (shower, washbasin, WC). Free internet access.
Television. Air-conditioning. Self-service laundry. Bed sheets and towels are supplied and changed.
Local tax and cleaning included. Arrival and departure on Saturday (all year): check-in from
10:00 to 19:00 (departure on Saturday before 12:00). Arrival and departure on Sunday (from June to
September): check-in from 15:00 till 19:00 (departure on Sunday before 12:00). Arrival possible

The Residence is located near the school and the beach. There are 50 flats for one or two persons. The
comfort is simple but it is modern and practical. We recommend this accommodation for students
from 18 years of age. Each flat is fully-furnished and equipped: kitchenette with hotplate and cooker
hood, fridge, crockery, bathroom (shower, washbasin, WC). Air-conditioning. Free internet access.
Washing machine room. Bed sheets and towels are supplied and changed every week. Local tax
included. Cleaning on request at extra cost. The student enters the Residence and his private flat with
a magnetic card. The reception is open during the day but there is no night-watchman.

Sightseeing tours
NICE: the OLD CITY and the CASTLE (panoramic view)
Walking tour through the small streets, near the Opera and the Hotel de Ville on the way to the famous
market place. Visit to the old castle (ruin) especially for the magnificent panoramic view on the bay of
Nice.
NICE: "MATISSE MUSEUM" & "ARENES DE CIMIEZ"
The museum is located in an Italian villa (17th century) inside a beautiful park full of olive trees.
Matisse arrived in Nice in 1917 and died there in 1954. His private collection and personal furniture can
be seen in the museum.
NICE: "CHAGALL MUSEUM"
The Marc-Chagall museum is certainly the most important museum in Nice for the quality of his
paintings. It displays the 17 great paintings making up the artist's Biblical Message (painted between
1954-67).
ANTIBES: the OLD CITY and the "PICASSO MUSEUM"
Antibes can be easily reached by train. Founded by the Greek, the old city was reconstructed in the 16C.
Visit of the market place. Panoramic view on the city, the sea and the mountains from the old
fortifications. The Grimaldi Castle where the Picasso museum is located, is inside the old city: good
selection of master's work, including drawings, prints and tapestries.
CAP-FERRAT
Trip around the Cap-Ferrat by a little road train with stops to visit the Kerylos Greek Mansion and the
Ephrussi de Rothschild museum (art collection and extraordinary gardens).
BIOT-VALLAURIS
Opportunity to bring back home "souvenirs" as glassworks and ceramics. Visit in Biot of the very well
known "Verrerie d'Art" (glassmaking) and the glass museum. Vallauris is a ceramic and pottery centre
made famous by Picasso.
SAINT-PAUL-DE-VENCE: visit of St. Paul, one of the most beautiful village in France. Many
boutiques for handicrafts and souvenirs. Possibility to visit the Maeght Foundation.
PARFUMS DE GRASSE: visit of a candy factory and the River-Loup canyon. Stop in Gourdon which
is a very old perched village. Visit of a perfume factory in Grasse to discover this traditional activity
which has made the city famous all over the world.
SAINT-TROPEZ: this is a trip along the coastline: the red rocks of the Esterel mountain, visit of SaintTropez, the famous fishing village.
LES GORGES DU VERDON: an impressive over hanging road and fantastic panoramas along the
River Verdon's Canyon (the deepest canyon in Europe): leften bank of the river - Aiguines - Moustiers,
beautiful typical village famous for its earthware. Sainte-Croix lake.
VINTIMILLE (ITALY) and the market: the purpose of this trip to Italy is to have the opportunity to
buy things (clothes, shoes, souvenirs) very cheap on the market of Ventimiglia.
MONACO/MONTE-CARLO: visit of the old city, the cathedral and Prince's palace square. Tour in
Monte-Carlo on the Casino's square.

SPORTS
Actilangue also makes arrangements for students to participate in group sport outings such as: biking,
hiking, walking, diving, wind-surfing. Students are able to make arrangements for sports such as
tennis, swimming, sailing.
Diving and windsurfing are activities included in the Junior programme but it is also offered to other
young students or adults. The price for each activity is from 25 € to 36 €. These activities are organised
with the Centre International de Plongée de Nice and the Ecole de voile de Cros de Cagnes (small city
next to Nice). All the instructors have an official sport diploma.
NICE
The city is a university city, cultural metropolis, and international holiday resort. Its mild climate
and unique geographical location between the Maritime Alps and the Mediterranean Sea make it as
attractive in winter as in summer. Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport is 7 km from the centre of
the town and, after Paris, is the second busiest in France.
The old city is the heart of Nice. It is full of life. There are restaurants and cafes with nice terrace,
pubs with live music, discotheques.
All the students, young and older, like to meet there in the evening for the nice atmosphere and the
bustle in the streets.

CINEMAS
About 50 movie sites in Nice. Tickets from 5,00 € to 9,00 €. Discount with the Actilangue student card (except during
the week end and on bank holidays).
VO films at “Le Mercury » (16, place Garibaldi) and « Le Rialto » (4, rue de Rivoli). The local newspaper « NiceMatin » publishes every Wednesday a complete list of films available.
The «Cinémathèque de Nice » (inside the « Palais des Congrès Acropolis ») presents numerous old or recent VO movies
at an attractive rate: 2,00 € to 2,50 €. Monthly programme available in the school waiting room.

The "socca" is a speciality of Nice made with chickpea flour, olive oil, water and salt. It is possible to buy it on the
market place «Cours Saleya» or at the "Spécialités niçoises", a shop at the corner rue Pairolière and rue Miralheti (next to
Place Garibaldi).
