Our Annual Stewardship Report allows us to reflect together on the
many accomplishments of the past year in meeting the equipment needs
of our Hospital. Let me say a heartfelt Thank You not just for the past
year but for the past six years. Your support of the Foundation has been
outstanding. And so, this issue is dedicated to you - our Everyday Heroes
- because what you do matters . . . what you do literally saves lives.
Our message this past year has been Your Lifeline for a Lifetime. We
know you are thankful the Hospital is your lifeline when you need it. We
in return are thankful you are willing to throw the Foundation a lifeline
by giving generously. You understand, appreciate and support the need.
YOU are the lifeline that empowers the Foundation. In the race against
disease, while technology, equipment and procedures continue to evolve,
your support keeps our hospital equipped. Our doctors and healthcare
providers need modern tools to diagnose and treat our community.

The Success
of the mission
depends on the

As a motorist travelling along Highway 401 I
suddenly became ill and had to be rushed to Cornwall
Community Hospital by ambulance. Seconds
seem like hours when your life is at stake and I am
grateful for the tremendous level of professionalism and
equipment available at CCH. I can’t thank Dr. Irwin
and Dr. Hesseltine enough for the wonderful care I
received. Even the ambulance attendants and nurses
in emergency and intensive care gave me great comfort
during such a frightening experience. Although I
am not a resident, I give to CCH Foundation with a
thankful heart.

My wife injured her leg on a Friday night and we
were one of the last to arrive at the McConnell Avenue
Clinic before closing. Our experience was one of first
class service as we were ushered through X-ray and
eventually to the Emergency Department. We were
extremely relieved when Dr. Tombler told us he would
operate on Saturday morning! After a follow-up exam on
Monday, I was able to bring my wife home. We have always
supported CCH but our dedication and appreciation has been renewed
after this experience. We continue to support CCH Foundation because
we know first-hand the value of a well equipped and locally operated
hospital.

A single experience can bring together a whole team of medical
professionals. In my case, after consultation with Dr. Bergeron my family
physician, Dr. Ghaly confirmed that my heart was strong enough
to undergo a necessary surgical procedure to be
performed by Dr. Moussa. The professionalism
of these three doctors along with the nursing staff
was astounding and the results have surpassed my
wildest expectations. “I feel the community has
an obligation to make the whole scenario better
by giving time or money. I wanted to give back
so I have extended my monthly donation well into

Why do
we need to
fundraise?
Canada’s Healthcare story
is one of evolution but it has
always cost more than what is
funded by government. Since
the 1977 EPF Act, hospital
foundations have existed in
communities all across Canada
to raise funds for healthcare.
A hospital foundation is
the charity that is responsible
for raising funds for the most important and most expensive facility
and equipment upon which everyone in the community relies.
So please continue to support the doctors, nurses and other key
members of your local healthcare team. Your generosity ensures
that Cornwall Community Hospital is able to provide state-of-theart medical services in the 21st century.
Federal-Provincial Financing Act –
Increased Donor Responsibility
* In 1977 the Federal-Provincial Financing (EPF) Act, put in motion a shift
in funding. This change resulted in funding constraints that necessitated
community hospital foundations to develop programs to fund hospital
equipment. Since the early 1980s the need for these programs has
increased at an unprecedented pace.
