Agendas for the March 1 meeting will be available after noon on February 25 at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/agendas. PROPERTY TAXES DUE The 2016 property tax bills were mailed on January 20th. Payment is due as follows: First installment: February 29th, 2016 Second installment: April 29th, 2016 We encourage pre-authorized payments. Two payment plans are available, however, accounts must be current. Option 1 – 10 month installments (February to November - withdrawal date is the 15th of each month) Option 2 – Due date installments If your tax account is not current a pre-set monthly payment can be arranged to help you catch up on tax arrears. Payments can also be made by telephone/internet banking, at any bank or in person by cash, cheque or direct debit at the Civic Centre. Unpaid taxes will be charged interest of 1.25% per month effective the first day of default. Please call 905-478-4282 if you did not receive a tax bill. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt the bill from being due or the taxpayer from incurring interest. WINTER WEATHER REMINDERS To promote winter safety we would like to remind residents of the following: • Refrain from shoveling snow onto streets • Push snow to the left of your driveway to minimize windrows at the end of your driveway • To allow for effective snow clearing please ensure vehicles are kept off of the street • Place blue boxes and garbage bins on your driveway to ensure plows are able to access road ways • Ensure fire hydrants are kept clear Remember to be prepared and drive safe. But did you know that heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths? With a few simple safety tips and precautions you can prevent most heating fires from happening. be warm and safe this winter! KKK Keep anything that can burn at least three-feet away from heating equipment, like the furnace, fireplace, wood stove, or portable space heater. KKK Have a three-foot “kid-free zone” around open fires and space heaters. KKK Never use your oven to heat your home. KKK Have a qualified professional install stationary space heating equipment, water heaters or central heating equipment according to the local codes and manufacturer’s instructions. KKK Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional. KKK Remember to turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed. KKK Always use the right kind of fuel, specified by the manufacturer, for fuel burning space heaters. KKK Make sure the fireplace has a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into the room. Ashes should be cool before putting them in a metal container. Keep the container a safe distance away from your home. KKK Test smoke alarms monthly. All fuel-burning equipment should be vented to the outside to avoid carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Install and maintain CO alarms to avoid the risk of CO poisoning. If you smell gas in your gas heater, do do not light the appliance. Leave the home immediately and call your local fire department or gas company.
