MJF Partnerships - Monterey Jazz Festival
“It’s a mood, a party, a tribal gathering, an improvisation,
and a cultural colossus.” — SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS
Monterey Jazz Festival
Rich Legacy. Rich Opportunity.
A partnership with the Monterey Jazz Festival links your company to an
iconic cultural brand, and a global leader in discovering, developing and
presenting extraordinary jazz artists.
But the benefit of such a partnership is not limited to marketing.
Because the Monterey Jazz Festival is a non-profit, through your
partnership, you have the added benefit of knowing that you
are deeply impacting thousands of students: young people
whose lives are enhanced by the Monterey Jazz Festival’s
year-long education programs.
Wynton Marsalis,

As one of the world’s foremost jazz organizations, the Monterey
Jazz Festival attracts loyal audiences regionally, nationally and
internationally. We work closely with our partners to develop
customized partnership opportunities which allow for creative
brand activation and integrated marketing options that will align with our
mutual organizational values, appeal to our audiences, and meet your
corporate goals.
We invite you to be part of the legacy that is the Monterey Jazz Festival and
to reap the multiple benefits offered by our proven partnerships!
“The greatest jazz festival ever.” — TONY BENNETT
Jazz Fans vote Monterey Jazz Festival
the World’s Best!
Repeatedly voted the world’s #1 jazz festival by JazzTimes readers, the
legendary Monterey Jazz Festival is not only the longest continuouslyrunning jazz festival in the world, it continues to be the best.
From September 16-18, 2016, approximately 40,000 high
income, well-educated, sophisticated and loyal fans will fill the
20-acre site of the Monterey Jazz Festival, located in
Monterey—one of the most beautiful coastal cities of California.
Now in its 59th year, the 3-day event includes non-stop
performances, conversations, panel discussions, workshops,
exhibitions, and clinics featuring a lineup of top jazz musicians.

MJF fans and partners will be enveloped throughout the
weekend by the special vibe that Monterey—and only
Monterey— can offer. As Tony Bennett has said, “this is the
greatest jazz festival that ever happened!”
And, as our partners will attest, the Monterey Jazz Festival provides a
significant marketing opportunity and a great experience for all involved.
We’ve developed some creative avenues to partnership, and we’re looking
forward to putting your marketing ideas to work for you.

Develop the Next Generation of Jazz
“When they stood
on the stage on
Sunday, they knew
they were playing
for their heroes.”
— CHRIS BRUYA
Director of Central Washington
University's Jazz Studies Program
There’s no greater
place to learn than
on the bandstand.
That’s why each year
we invite over 1,300
of the nation’s top
student musicians
to play their hearts
out at the Next
Generation Jazz
Festival.
Held continuously
in Monterey every
spring since 1971,
the NGJF is broadly
recognized as a
leader in developing
the next generation of professional jazz musicians and enthusiasts. What sets
us apart? Internationally-respected jazz artists and educators participate as
performers and adjudicators in the NGJF competition.
Demographics: One of the most inclusive festivals
in the United States, NGJF welcomes performances
by over 75 superior level middle, high school and
collegiate groups of every kind: big bands, combos,
vocal ensembles, as well as conglomerate bands.
Over 130 groups apply each year, and from these
the very best compete for the honor of performing
at the Monterey Jazz Festival in September.
School groups from at least 20 states, as well as
international schools from Japan, Australia, Canada,
and the Czech Republic. Participating student ages
range from 12-26, with female students making up
33%, and males making up 67%.
Beyond the 1,300 students who participate in the
Next Generation Jazz Festival, music directors,
school administrators, staff, and families also
accompany participating ensembles to Monterey.
The free Friday Night Opening Concert, which features the NGJF judges,
draws 1,800 students, teachers and members of the public. And the on-site
Jazz Expo and College Fair at the NGJF attract music industry-related
partners and music education organizations and programs.

“ Everyone says
‘music is the universal
language,’ but I really
know this to be true.
I met some of my
closest friends during
those trips to Japan.
The importance of a
program like this goes
far beyond music
and lands on humanity
itself.”
Go on Tour with the
Next Generation Jazz Orchestra
The Next Generation Jazz Orchestra is the most prestigious of the MJF
educational opportunities, and offers students the opportunity to play on
the Arena stage at the Monterey Jazz Festival and to tour internationally
with a group of the most outstanding student jazz musicians in the country.
The MJF in Noto started in 1989. For nearly three decades, the Monterey
Jazz Festival has been sending our best student jazz musicians to Japan to
serve as cultural ambassadors, and to receive a cultural experience equal to

a study abroad program. In addition, students gain a realistic and insightful
understanding of what “being on the road” as a professional performing
artists involves.
In addition to the MJF in Noto, our Next Generation Jazz Orchestra has
performed in Amagasaki, Isesaki, Kanazawa, Kurashiki, at the Kutchan Jazz
Festival (on the island of Hokkaido), in Maebashi, Nagano, Nagoya,
Okayama, Osaka, Saitama, Tateshina, Tokyo, Tomisato, Yokohama, and in
many other cities.
This year the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra will tour Japan from July
24- August 8. MJF welcomes corporate partners who are looking for the
opportunity to support the development of the next generation of jazz
legends and to share in the benefits of a distinctive and exemplary
international exchange.
