Organized by the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy and hosted by Indian Ladder Farms, the Summer Festival is the 5th annual community fair to celebrate summer. In previous years, this fun-filled event had been held on the Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail. This year, with the continuation of paving work along the trail, the festival has been moved to Indian Ladder Farms. Last year’s Summer Festival was a huge success with more than 100 exhibitors, over 1,000 attendees, and more than 200 hikers. About the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC). MHLC is your local land trust, working day after day to improve the quality of life for all residents of the Capital Region. The work that we do to preserve the natural spaces in Albany, Montgomery, and Schenectady counties, directly impacts the health of the region. We have protected close to 4,000 acres of land including over 1,300 acres open to the public in the form of preserves – for hiking, cross-country skiing and other educational and recreational opportunities. About Indian Ladder Farms. If you live in or near the Town of New Scotland, there is a good chance that you have experienced the joy of picking and eating apples while walking through row after row of tempting, ripe fruit on a cool autumn day at Indian Ladder Farms, tucked into a perfect spot beneath the Helderbergs. In 2016, we can all celebrate this family-run gem that has been supplying us with milk, beef, dairy products, apples, pears, berries and much more for one hundred years. Where is the Summer Festival & Hike-a-thon? The celebration will begin with an Opening Ceremony at Indian Ladder Farms at noon to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Indian Ladder Farms and the Grand Opening of the Indian Ladder Farmstead Brewery. The celebration will continue with an afternoon of fun for the young and the young at heart at the farm. The guided Hike-a-thon will be held simultaneously at the farm and MHLC preserves, and a wheelchair accessible hike will be taking place on the rail trail. What will there be to do at the Summer Festival? There will be activities for people of all ages including hay rides, pony rides, farm animals, musicians, arts, crafts, food vendors, and much more. What will Solstice sponsorship funding be used for? The festival is FREE to the public. Funding will help pay for the event, promotional materials, volunteer support, traffic control, equipment and more.
