Here is a city quaint, unique,
amidst its picturesque surrounds, no other like it in all the
world. Also a city of comfortable
homes, cultured people, refined
society - a business city that has
a population of 7,000 souls - that
has two national and one state
bank - the finest hotel in all the
northwest - elegant stores occupying large handsome business
blocks of brick and stone. A fine
water and sewer system and
with complete fire protection,
electric lights, and gas works.
Seven churches thoroughly supported. The best public school in
the west. Two daily and three
weekly newspapers, machine
shops, foundries, and carriage
works. We have a $50,000 city
hall. The US government is
erecting a $200,000 Federal
Building. It is the terminal of

Locally Owned & Operated Retail Businesses
Amid the mass of gambling venues, small locally owned and
operated retail businesses are
sprinkled throughout the city. The
purpose of this guide is to help
visitors to Deadwood identify and
locate the various retailers.
Retailers that offer a wide variety
of goods and services in this community. Brick and mortar businesses may seem like the old fashion
way to do business in this era, but
they are still the heart and soul to
every city. You will meet locals
who will bend over backwards to
help you! Let this guide help you
explore our historic city and
enhance your time with us! The
city of Deadwood today is a
vibrant 24/7 destination resort
community. 1.5 to 2 million visitors from all over the world walk
the same brick streets as the early
pioneers that settled this wild and
woolly gold camp of 1876. Early
visitors to this city include notable
characters such as Wild Bill James
Hickok, Calamity Jane, Seth
Bullock, Preacher Smith,
Deadwood Dick, Poker Alice, and
Potato Creek Johnny. Merchants in
1876 catered to the needs of gold
camp prospectors. Merchants of
today cater to the needs of modern day travelers. If we can do
anything to make your stay more
enjoyable, please do not hesitate
to contact any merchant in this
guide.
Three generations of visitors to
Deadwood have been enjoying the
theatrical play written in the
1930's by local resident & chamber director Nell Perrigoue who
probably never dreamed that he
would start a long standing tradition in this old wild west town. Visitors of today enjoy partici-
pating in the nightly trial by serving on the jury or being an eyewitness to testify to the swift and
unjust killing of the famous lawman named Will Bill James Butler
Hickok. Be a part of history and
join the audience in this interactive and memorable play production! See Pg. 8 for schedule.

Oggie’s Sports Bar & Deadwood Grille
Mount Rushmore is famous for it’s four faces but the historical town of Deadwood could also have a mountain carved
in tribute to the famous characters who helped create the unforgettable moments in history. These individuals are fondly
remembered for their lives of adventure, heroism, and contributions to the expansion of the west in the 1880’s era.

Almost everyone visiting Deadwood is looking for
the famous Mt Moriah Cemetery where Wild Bill
Hickok and Calamity Jane among others are buried. But did you know that there is another cemetery that has just as much historical significance
in this city?
The St. Ambrose Catholic cemetery is located on
side of a hill on Pleasant Street near Burnham
avenue, which is located north of the Days of 76
rodeo grounds district.
There is a beautiful and unusual glowing head
stone of an angel, which is well worth the time to
hike up and explore this lesser known beautiful
quiet cemetery nestled back in the pines in the
historic neighborhood.
