Margaret Island, Europe’s second largest

Museum, Gellért Hill and the Citadel. Don’t
miss the historical spas, their thermal baths,
swimming pools and sun decks: you can find
Lukács, Rudas and Gellért Baths on the
Buda side of the Danube, while Széchenyi is

authentic lido experience in the middle of the
city, at Palatinus on Margaret Island. Called
Europe’s most beautiful by CNN, the Central
Market Hall is on the Pest side, south of the
City Centre, where you can sample the richness of Hungarian specialities. City Park is a
real hub of the arts and entertainment, with
some of the city’s favourite places: Heroes’ Square, the Zoo, Széchenyi Spa, the Funfair,
Museum of Fine Arts, Vajdahunyad Castle, and the City Park Ice Rink and Boating Lake.
It is easily accessible from the city centre with
what was once the first underground service
on the continent. Over and above the classic

Looking past the borders of the
Sziget, The Island of Freedom, apart
from musical and cultural colourfulness, you’ll find the very diverse
culinary selection of “Kulinaria”.
This mini state on a 76 hectare area
is divided into small parts representing the many gastronomic provinces.
All around Sziget, visitors will find
small restaurant centres that reflect
the exciting culinary world of the
festival. Dishes of various nationalities, exciting products of the Hungarian cuisine, Hungary’s most important wines, and the very intricate palinka culture will be
represented this year. Sziget, The Island of Freedom, will also host ruin pubs that are one of
Budapest’s many characteristics and are very popular among the youth.
Apart from the usual cuisines you can taste Indian, Transylvanian, Greek, Italian, French,
Mexican, Bavarian and Thai food, while you can try boiled corn, various types of baked dough,
pizza, giant pancakes and hot dog. You’ll even find waffles that are becoming more and more
popular around the globe. If you are thirsty, feel free to visit one of the many dozen pubs, wine
pavilions, palinka houses and beer springs.

RUIN BARS QUARTER
The ruin pubs are unique to Hungary. This
is true to the extent that ruin pubs have
become an export item. The Ruin Bars Quarter of Sziget, The Island of Freedom, is compulsory
to all those who ever visited a ruin pub in their life. And even to those, who never did…
WNDRLND
ISKOLA CLUB
Wndrlnd merges the laid
back atmosphere of the
ruin pubs found in the city
center, the visual colorfulness
of art galleries in Budapest, and the musical
adventures of the urban clubs. At SZIGET we are
prepared to give you the essence of Wndrlnd
with live paintings, interactive art projects, visual shock and diverse music.
www.wndrlnd.hu
ISKOLA Club opened its gates behind Liszt Ferenc square back
in 2012. With its laid back
style, restaurant, concert
rooms, cocktail bars and
festival-like atmosphere of
the courtyard, it is the favorite spot to those infatuated
with partying. Now you can experience all this
on Sziget.

URIMURI
INSTANT - THE ENCHANTED WOODS
URIMURI is the city’s most trendy
spot. It’s the perfect mixture of
the legendary ruin pubs of Budapest and inner city elegance.
What we guarantee is nu-disco
and deep house melodies, special
drinks and mischievous waiters.

ÖTKERT
Ötkert sets standards, not
only for local patriots.
Ötkert is a place in the
heart of Budapest that always changes, becomes more
colorful every year, just like Sziget. Ötkert: gigantic parties, star DJs, concerts, exhibitions.
It even offers live music and an unforgettable
culinary experience to those arriving hungry.

FOGASház
How delightful that Fogas will be
joining us this year. Can anyone imagine the Ruin Bars

course not. Just like the nighttime of Budapest is not the
same without it.

…AND FRIENDS Festival Closin
…AND FRIENDS is Sziget Founder Müller Péter Sziámi’s
and Kirschner Péter’s new band. Its name was inspired
by the provisional ensembles and formations which
used to perform as the closing act. This formation became permanent since then and was joined by members from the Európa Kiadó, Sziámi, Anima and Joy D.
Isolated bands. URH, Kontroll, Sziámi, Joy Division, but
most importantly smashing new hits.
Guests: Csilla Domonkos (Signifire), Ádám Dévényi, Fruzsina Magyar

www.szigetfestival.com
The Szitizens of the Island of Freedom will be
approached by a film crew, random times, at
different locations during the day and will be
asked the following questions: What is freedom?
What are your subjective laws and rules concerning freedom? How would you explain it to
others, using your own words, own language?
Afterwards these 10 to 15 second long footages will be uploaded to the continuously expanding Video Code of Freedom.
The videos and proposed laws will appear in the news feed of Sziget, the Island of
Freedom, and can be seen twice a day at Film+ Szinema, Sziget’s very own movie
theater. The footages will be presented in their original language with English and
Hungarian subtitles so that every Szitizen will understand the messages.
You are free to propose laws to the film crew bearing The Laws of Freedom word
bubble for distinction.
Screened daily at 15:30, 19:30, 01:00 at Film+ Szinema.

Theater Titanick (D):
Firebirds
GIANT STREE
T THEATER
Titanick was founded in Germany, 1990. Since then it has become one of the
most significant street theater companies in the world. With their spectacular yet
bizarre productions, they have achieved several successes at the most important
international festivals, receiving many illustrious prizes in the past several years.
Their biggest motivation and key to success is the love and enthusiasm of the tens
of thousands of people.
This year we are able to relive one
of the craziest street theater productions since the foundation of
Sziget. Titanick achieved an unparallel success with its performance
titled Firebirds back in 2006. This
speeding visual theater is back
once again with new contraptions. Through their performance,
the audience will experience an
exciting race and cheer for fantastic, dreamlike vehicles taking
the form of mechanical Icaruses.
Their speed, their ground bound
soaring symbolizes the infinite
desire for freedom. These bold
pilots will use any means necessary to win. After surpassing
multiple obstacles, surviving
accidents and tricks they finally
reach the finish, where they all
fail to lift off. Even though the
racers are not able to soar, their dreams, wishes and desperate
fight for the unreachable is not in vain because their worldly aspiration for freedom
is enough to raise them up symbolically into the sky.

This year’s spotlight will be on the Rubik’s Cube since 2014 is the 40th birthday of this

with the cube. The Rubik’s Cube, as a symbol of Hungarian ingenuity and success, will
show its new face in our country as well. The inventor, Ernő Rubik himself and the prime
minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán signed a manifesto proclaiming the establishment of
an exhibition center in commemoration of human creativity, the universal and Hungarian
intellectual performance, and about the Rubik phenomenon. The structure of the main
building and the exhibition itself will reflect the design of the Rubik’s Cube. This project
started out as an idea of the journalist Peter Radnai. Sziget joined the initiative because
this new iconic center will most probably be a very popular destination for festival visitors
who want to know more about Hungary.

This year we’ll take you on an adventure into the world of tales.
Apart from the many stories told here, you’ll get to know more about this year’s
selected herb Rosemary, which was not only a very popular ingredient in cooking pots
but also a protagonist of tales. As a guest from New-Zealand, Moana & The Tribe will be
here to share with you their exotic fables. The band will give the opening concert on the
OTP Bank World Music Party Main Stage and from Thursday on they’ll be here to show
their traditional culture with the help of their music, tales and dances. And a unique
program, a tohunga-ta-moko tattoo artist will be present as well, who tells stories about
this tucked away corner of the Earth by using maori tattoo motives, lines, and spirals.

NGO Island is Sziget’s most colorful
and interesting spot. Its roots go way
back to the very first Sziget Festival,
when only a couple, later on a dozen
social organizations found it important to be represented with their programs, services, and direct contact
with the youth. From a single street,
it gradually grew into the separate
“island” that it is today. NGO Island
is a meeting place for those who wish to be
informed, where visitors can enjoy
services and receive help, or if they would like
to, even take part in an organization’s work. It has become a growingly impor
tant location within the civil sphere
as well; it is an occasion for similar organization
s to meet one another, exchange
thoughts, and due to representatives from abroa
d, gain foreign experiences.

Most importantly, these people would like to offer a fun and meaningful

“enchanted castle”. This year,
the 9th Luminarium, going by
the name of MIRAZOZO, travels
all the way from Nottingham

list of great visual sights Sziget Festival’s has to offer.
Those who have been inside a Luminarium know that the experien

Love Your Tent Collecting Points
You won’t believe how many people leave their provisional „homes”,
camping utensils behind after a longer festival. This is true to Sziget as well.
The Love Your Tent campaign started in the UK when the organizers of a festival collected
tons of tents and trash right after the event had ended. In time, this idea grew into a global
initiation encouraging the gathering and recycling of tents. Sziget joined the project in
2013 since the organizers are committed to environmentalism and mind-forming ideas
from the very beginning.
If the cleanliness of the environment is important to you, or if you would like to know what
happens with the collected tents, join the Love Your Tent campaign. Pack your tent up, take
it home, and go to another festival with it. But if you decide to leave it behind, then look
for one of the many Love Your Tent collecting points so it can be recycled – find the Love
Your Tent Collecting Points in the City Center of Sziget next to the Left Luggage. And don’t
forget to Love Your Tent!

What is this? To keep it simple, it’s the
mixture of volleyball, Capoeira and soccer. Teams usually consist of 4-5 people. The players are dispersed on a special inflatable court while fiery Latin music energizes both the players and the audience. Thanks to the unique
court, breathtaking acrobatic movements can be carried out.
The goal is the most extreme and most spectacular match.
Bossaball is contagious: anyone who sits through a match will
soon find himself on the team strengthening the defense.
