The videos and proposed laws will appear in the news feed of Sziget, the Island of Freedom, and can be seen twice a day at Film+ Szinema, Sziget’s very own movie theater. Since then it has become one of the most significant street theater companies in the world. With their spectacular yet bizarre productions, they have achieved several successes at the most important international festivals, receiving many illustrious prizes in the past several years. Their biggest motivation and key to success is the love and enthusiasm of the tens of thousands of people. This year we are able to relive one of the craziest street theater productions since the foundation of Sziget. Titanick achieved an unparallel success with its performance titled Firebirds back in 2006. This speeding visual theater is back once again with new contraptions. Through their performance, the audience will experience an exciting race and cheer for fantastic, dreamlike vehicles taking the form of mechanical Icaruses. Their speed, their ground bound soaring symbolizes the infinite desire for freedom. These bold pilots will use any means necessary to win. After surpassing multiple obstacles, surviving accidents and tricks they finally reach the finish, where they all fail to lift off. Even though the racers are not able to soar, their dreams, wishes and desperate fight for the unreachable is not in vain because their worldly aspiration for freedom is enough to raise them up symbolically into the sky. www.titanick.de 50 www.szigetfestival.com 65m high ferris wheel! spectacular sight of sziget, The island of Freedom, and the city of Budapest! Daily 11:00–23:00 TENT OF LOGIC GA MES This year’s spotlight will be on the Rubik’s Cube since 2014 is the 40th birthday of this world-famous Hungarian invention. On this occasion, several events will be organized in Hungary and all around the world. In 2014, the Liberty Science Center and Google will initiate an exhibition series traveling all around the USA. Even the internet will be filled with the cube. The Rubik’s Cube, as a symbol of Hungarian ingenuity and success, will show its new face in our country as well. The inventor, Ernő Rubik himself and the prime minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán signed a manifesto proclaiming the establishment of an exhibition center in commemoration of human creativity, the universal and Hungarian intellectual performance, and about the Rubik phenomenon. The structure of the main building and the exhibition itself will reflect the design of the Rubik’s Cube. This project started out as an idea of the journalist Peter Radnai. Sziget joined the initiative because this new iconic center will most probably be a very popular destination for festival visitors who want to know more about Hungary. August 7th, 14:00 Rubik Press Discussion and Presentation RUBIK’S CUBE DEMONSTRATIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIP The whole world plays with the Rubik’s cube, and so do we, here at Sziget… Anyone can take part in the championship. This is true to Sziget as well. The Love Your Tent campaign started in the UK when the organizers of a festival collected tons of tents and trash right after the event had ended. In time, this idea grew into a global initiation encouraging the gathering and recycling of tents. Sziget joined the project in 2013 since the organizers are committed to environmentalism and mind-forming ideas from the very beginning. If the cleanliness of the environment is important to you, or if you would like to know what happens with the collected tents, join the Love Your Tent campaign. Pack your tent up, take it home, and go to another festival with it. But if you decide to leave it behind, then look for one of the many Love Your Tent collecting points so it can be recycled – find the Love Your Tent Collecting Points in the City Center of Sziget next to the Left Luggage. To keep it simple, it’s the mixture of volleyball, Capoeira and soccer. Teams usually consist of 4-5 people. The players are dispersed on a special inflatable court while fiery Latin music energizes both the players and the audience. Thanks to the unique court, breathtaking acrobatic movements can be carried out. The goal is the most extreme and most spectacular match. Bossaball is contagious: anyone who sits through a match will soon find himself on the team strengthening the defense.
