SOUTH AFRICA
LIMPOPO PROVINCE
Limpopo province borders onto Mozambique, Zimbabwe
and Botswana making it the ideal entrance to Africa. It is rich
in wildlife, spectacular scenery and a wealth of historical and
cultural treasures. The Waterberg is a harsh but rewarding
area of startling beauty, a beauty which lies in its superb
vistas, mountain gorges, clear streams and rolling bushveld
hills, all rich in indigenous species of plant and animal life
- including the ‘Big Five’. Welgevonden Game Reserve, is in
the Waterberg District and is malaria free, making it a popular choice for tourists. Kapama Game Reserve is a 13 000
hectare nature reserve and is the biggest privately owned
game reserve near the Kruger National Park. Mabula Game
Reserve is a 12 000 hectare private game reserve and is
about 47km from Bela Bela.
NORTH WEST PROVINCE
The North West is a peaceful province with a year-round,
sunny climate, exciting wildlife destinations free of malaria
and various cultural and historical attractions. Rustenberg
is a national game area with a number of fine game
parks where it is still possible to capture the solitude and
stillness associated with nature and the animal kingdom.
The Pilanesberg National Park, which covers some 55 000
hectares, is the fourth largest park in southern Africa. This
malaria-free park is perched on the eroded vestiges of an
alkaline volcanic crater - one of only three such craters in
the world. Madikwe Game Reserve is a prime wildlife safari
destination with mostly luxury accommodation venues.
The reserve borders Botswana and is located in North West
Province, 90km north of Zeerust, about 3.5 hours’ drive
from both Johannesburg and Pretoria and is one of the few
reserves in southern Africa, which is malaria free.
MPUMALANGA
Mpumalanga, means “land of the rising sun” in the
local SiSwati language and offers exhilarating wildlife,
secluded mountain retreats, wild watersports and some
of South Africa’s most diverse and vibrant African cultures.
Situated against the Mpumalanga escarpment, Lydenburg/
Mashishing has many historic, cultural and leisure attractions. Hazyview is close to the Kruger National Park and
derives its name from the shimmering haze that occurs
during the heat of summer.
kruger national park
Kruger National Park is the largest game park in South Africa.
It lies across the provinces of Mpumalanga and Limpopo in
the north of South Africa and now forms part of the Great
Limpopo Transfrontier Park - a peace park that links the
Kruger National Park with game parks in Zimbabwe and
Mozambique. Fences are already coming down to allow
game to roam freely. This is the land of baobabs, fever trees,
5
knob thorns, marula and mopane trees, underneath which
lurk the 'Big Five', the 'Little Five', the 'birding Big Six' and more
species of mammals than any other African Game Reserve.
LIMPOPO PROVINCE - WATERBERG
KWAZULU-NATAL
KwaZulu-Natal offers visitors an interaction of natural
wonders, modern facilities, fascinating cultures and a rich
history - in a breathtakingly beautiful landscape with a
variety of settings. Durban is the gateway to this unique
holiday destination. The Dolphin Coast is characterised
by lush vegetation, cool breezes from the Indian Ocean,
endless beaches and clear skies. The Drakensberg is awe
inspiring with its mass of rising high mountain peaks, lush
vegetation and adundance of birdlife. KwaZulu-Natal’s
South Coast is blessed with golden beaches, rock pools,
countless fishing spots and the opportunity to spot dolphins.
The sheer majesty of Zululand will take your breath away.
Under the hot African sun, the cobalt blue Indian Ocean,
mangrove swamps and limpid lagoons give way to rolling
green hills and indigenous forests which shimmer in the
distance before they reach the Drakensberg Mountains.
EASTERN CAPE
The Eastern Cape, lying on the south eastern South African
coast, is a region of great natural beauty, particularly the
rugged cliffs, rough seas and dense green bush of the
stretch known as the Wild Coast. Grahamstown was
literally the 19th century frontier between the British Cape
Colony and the Xhosa territories and the first point of major
contact between the African tribes and white settlers.
The city centre boasts a wealth of architecturally pleasing
historic buildings and has a pleasant climate, with warm
summers. The winters are cold, but this does not deter the
thousands of visitors who attend the National Festival of the
Arts in mid-winter each year.
Western cape
The Western Cape is a province of diversities, offering
visitors a unique cultural and natural heritage and a rural easygoing atmosphere - coupled with a first world infrastructure.
The Garden Route is a popular stretch of the southeastern coast of South Africa. The name comes from the
ecologically diverse vegetation and the numerous lagoons
and lakes dotted along the coast. Arniston is a small
seaside settlement in the Overberg region on the Cape
Southcoast, close to Cape Agulhas, the southern-most tip of
Africa. The Cape Winelands is known for its exceptional
wines. The area comprises of Stellenbosch and the
Franschhoek Valley, where both towns are reminiscent of a
bye-gone era. Cape Town is the gateway to the Western
Cape and will delight visitors with its vibrant waterfront,
Table Mountain, botanical gardens and historic wine
estates. Hermanus is on the southern coast of the
Western Cape and is famous for southern right whale
watching during the southern winter and spring.
6
KWAFUBESI TENTED SAFARI CAMP
Offering spectacular golden plains, breathtaking sunsets
and Big Five game viewing, Kwafubesi Tented Safari Camp,
“Place of the Giant Eagle Owl”, is the ideal location for a
starry-eyed getaway. Discreetly tucked away in the tree line
on the edge of the magnificent Mvubu plain in the 12 000
hectare Mabula Private Game Reserve, is Kwafubesi Tented
Safari Camp.
The 5 luxurious en-suite tents have been spaciously
designed with soft furnishings in strong hues of rich African
colour and are raised on platforms thus maximising privacy
at all times. Each tent enjoys a private deck overlooking an
open plain allowing for game sightings up close and personal, especially with the camp being positioned in territory
that is renowned to be home to Rhino. Romantic oil lamps
and home prepared meals served in the thatched lapa add
to this unique ‘Out of Africa’ experience.

VICTORIA FALLS
OVERVIEW
The Victoria Falls is the widest curtain of falling water on
earth, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the seven
natural wonders of the world. Mist from the waterfalls can
be seen more than 20km away and the thundering roar can
be heard long before the Falls can be seen, which explains
the Falls’ local name, Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning the “Smoke
that Thunders”. The Falls are on the borders of Zambia and
Zimbabwe.
Victoria Falls - Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls, is Africa’s undisputed adventure capital with
the thrill of whitewater rafting, bungi jumping, canoe trips,
sky diving and plenty more. With excellent reserves for game
viewing, sundowner river cruises, elephant-back safaris and
helicopter flips, it is easy to see why Victoria Falls is a top
destination.
Victoria Falls - Zambia
Zambia is home to spectacular wildlife, superb safaris, great
adventures, rich culture and friendly people. Livingstone is
named after the missionary and explorer David Livingstone,
and is only 10km from the thundering Victoria Falls. The
main street of this quaint, colonial town is the Mosi-oa-Tunya
Road, sections of which are lined with Victorian tin roofed
houses with wooden verandas, typical of the English settler
architecture.
CLIMATE: May to August is the dry season. Humidity is low
except during the rainy season from December to April.

Our new flagship lodge is nestled in a patch of pristine
woodland just west of Ngamo on the edge of the south east
corner of Hwange National Park. The lodge is unique in its

east portion of the park, Camelthorn will also provide a

Less than a kilometre away from the lodge we have built an
underground blind in front of a beautifully located waterhole in the park. Camouflaged as a termite heap and buried

BOTSWANA
OVERVIEW
Botswana is one of the few remaining wildlife safari
destinations in Africa where you can still experience nature
as the early explorers did.
OKAVANGO DELTA
A labyrinth of lagoons, lakes and hidden channels covering
over 17 000km2 and the largest inland delta in the world. It is
home to rare wildlife and the best time for game viewing is
between May and October, as the animal life is concentrated along the flooded areas. A 'must do’ activity is a ride in a
mokoro, a dug-out canoe made from a large tree that can
move quietly through shallow water.
CHOBE - KASANE, BOTSWANA
The Chobe National Park and river, bordering the town of
Kasane, is only 80km upstream from the Victoria Falls and
is home to the world's largest elephant population. A river
boat safari will take you close to these herds as they graze
on the floodplains. Big herds of buffalo also frequent the
floodplains and in their wake come the lions.
THE MAKGADIKGADI PANS
The largest salt pan in the world, covering over 12 000km
of completely barren flatland. It is possible that there are
still remote areas to be discovered, while others have been
occupied for thousands of years, rich with the remains of
prehistoric settlements.
CLIMATE: November to March is known as the green
season, showers are usually only experienced in the late
afternoon with high temperatures. Rates during this time
drop considerably making this an inexpensive time to travel.
CURRENCY / CREDIT CARDS: Local currency is the Pula. US
Dollars, Rands and most popular currencies are accepted. All
major credit cards are accepted.
LANGUAGE: English is the official language, and Setswana
the national language.
TIME DIFFERENCE: GMT +2 (same as South Africa).
Passport, Visa & Health requirements: It is the
responsibility of each passenger to ensure that they are in
possession of the correct travel documentation prior to departure. Gateway Travel & Tours cannot accept responsibility for any
consequences arising from passengers failing to comply with the
necessary health, passport or visa requirements. Passports must
be valid for a minimum of 6 months after your intended date of
return and must have at least 2 blank pages for visa stamping
purposes. Gateway Travel & Tours recommends that all travellers
contact the relevant consulate before travel for up-to-date visa
and health requirements.

KENYA, TANZANIA
KENYA - MOMBASA
KENYA
Kenya’s palm-fringed beaches offer sunshine and relaxation,
while abundant wildlife in an awe-inspiring savanna bring
a beauty and freedom that’s hard to resist. Mombasa is
the second-largest city in Kenya, with a population of over
one million and is the regional cultural and economic hub.
Mombasa has a large port and an international airport. The
Masai Mara is a large game reserve named in honour of the
Maasai people and is globally famous for its exceptional
population of lions, leopards and cheetahs and of course,
the annual migration of zebra, Thomson’s gazelle and
wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from
July to October, known as the Great Migration. Amboseli
National Park is also incredibly popular, and not only offers
great game viewing but is also the place to go for the best
views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peaks.
TANZANIA
Perched on the edge of the African continent, facing the
Indian Ocean, Tanzania has the perfect location with warm
and sunny days, followed by cool and balmy nights. Many
visit Tanzania to see the Serengeti’s great wildebeest
migration. The migration is linked to the rainfall as the
wildebeest are constantly seeking fresh grazing and water.
Africa’s largest game reserve is The Selous Game Reserve
which covers 45 000km of wilderness with open Miombo
woodlands, grassy plains, swamps and riverine forests. It is
about three times the size of South Africa’s Kruger National
Park, and twice the size of the Serengeti National Park.
CLIMATE: Tropical climate. June to February are the best
times to travel. The weather is generally sunny and humid.
The rainy reasons are April - May.
CURRENCY/CREDIT CARDS: Local currency is the Kenyan
Shilling. Major credit cards are accepted by larger hotels, restaurants and some other establishments.
LANGUAGE: The official languages are English and Swahili.
Most people in the cities and tourist areas can speak English.
TIME DIFFERENCE: GMT +3 (1 hour ahead of South Africa)

Indian Ocean. The central plateau is studded with extinct
volcanic craters where rivers and waterfalls cross.
CLIMATE
Mauritius enjoys a relatively mild climate. The most
pleasant times to visit the island are between the months
of April and June and between September and December.
In summer (November to April) the weather is hot and

January and February. Rainfall is abundant, especially on the
central plateau and the highest rainfall normally occurs in
the months of February and March. The cyclonic season
extends from November to April. Most of the time the
cyclones miss Mauritius because of the small size of the
island. Prevailing winds blow over the island from the east
and south east.

Bangkok
As the political, economic, cultural, culinary and spiritual
capital of Thailand, Bangkok features both old-world charm
and modern convenience. Every Thailand holiday should
include a visit to Bangkok, or Krung Thep, ‘the city of angels’

city and the chaos of its bustling streets can be intimidating
at first, those who spend some time in Bangkok are quickly
enchanted by the variety of attractions it offers – from exotic
temples, which epitomise Thailand’s strong Buddhist history,
to modern shopping malls, which have made shopping an
integral part of any Bangkok holiday. For tourists, Bangkok
has a feast of attractions to offer. The city is dotted with 400
glittering Buddhist temples of great beauty, magnificent

gypsies for thousands of years and archaeological evidence
indicates that Krabi was originally inhabited as early as
25 000 - 35 000 years ago! Attractions include hot springs,
a wildlife sanctuary, sea caves, flourishing coral reefs and
exotic marine life, limestone cliffs that draw rock-climbing
enthusiasts from around the world, and national parks that
