Alfred Souter
I would try to bring everyone together for major events and going out. I would make an
Ancaster chat rather than a Facebook page which no one looks at. For major sports and
other events I would make sure they were on in the common room for everyone to see
and access. I would try to make the JCR a inclusive and fun place to be by trying to
make it look less depressing.
I should be elected because I care about this hall and I will do everything I can to make
it better. I believe that I can be a pragmatic and approachable president. (Couldn't take a
photo am in a lecture sorry).
Abigail Morrison
I feel that the role of President carries with it many responsibilities, which for the most
part would be both rewarding and enjoyable. As President, I would ensure that every
student within Ancaster Hall has the most memorable and enjoyable first year at
University. In addition, as President, I would try my very best to represent the Hall
residents and to work effectively with the Hall management team. Most importantly, I
believe, as President, I would be able to support well the needs of each and every Hall
resident and member of my committee. In doing so, I would be able to make an impact
to provide opportunities and ensure change for everyone in the hall!
I believe that as president, I would be able to engage and corporate effectively with both
the Hall management team and with each and every hall resident. Furthermore, working
within a team is something I love to do and is something I find very fulfilling. Therefore, I
feel with every effort, I will be able to work well with each member of the Hall
committee and lead the committee effectively, so that Ancaster Hall is the best place to
be! In addition to my leadership role, I have many ideas for many social events at
Ancaster Hall. Without mention: a 'take-me out' themed charity night and a 'midsummers night dream' themed ball, which will commence in May/June before everyone
leaves for the summer. Therefore, if I was elected as President, I would make sure every
member of the Ancaster Community: has fun, stays happy, and has the best first year at
University possible!
Ben Saville
To ensure that our time living in Ancaster halls are as enjoyable and sociable as possible,
I will promote a large variety of exciting events to make it seem as though freshers never
ended. My focus in this role will be to make sure everyone feels equally involved in all
activities and events. I aim to achieve this by setting up an easy communication link
between JCR members and all other residents, this hopes to allow everyone a fair say in
how they wish their halls to be run. With this in mind together we can prepare to
embark in JCR life.
I believe i suit this role as I am a motivated individual meaning that i will always strive to
do the best I can for my halls. As well as this I am also a responsible individual who will
proudly represent Ancaster. Adding to this is am easy to talk to and very sociable
meaning I have the characteristics of someone who will be able to make suggestions for
change based upon everyday social interactions. From what I have seen I Ancaster I am
already prepared to campaign for free pool tables like they have in other halls. I believe
this would be a good starting to my position as it seems as though this would be
universally beneficial to everyone in Ancaster Halls.
Thomas Nevitt
If elected I would begin by creating a suggestion box for students to have their say on
how the community can be made more inclusive. As well as trying to run hall events such as a sports day where blocks compete against each other- I would also encourage
students to spend time in the JCR by offering prizes for people who win at snooker or
FIFA. I would run sessions where students can come and talk to myself and others about
absolutely anything and be heard without being judged.
If elected, I would do several things to add to the feeling of unity within the hall and
endeavour to make everybody feel like they are a key part of the community. I think I
am a very approachable and friendly person, with good organisational skills. I would be
able to speak to many of the students living here and use their advice to help improve
the hall atmosphere and community.
Bailey Snow
I'd make sure that there are activities regularly for all types of students based on all their
different interests but also aiming to bring the students of Ancaster together.
I am a sociable person and a very good listener, therefore I feel I will be able to help as
many people and maximize their experience both at University and at Ancaster.
Vice President
This position is currently vacant.
Treasurer
Keiran Hanratty
I would actively participate in organising events and other activities while managing the
budget in the most efficient way possible. I will try to initiate events and activities which
are catered to all the members of Ancaster hall, and do my best to ensure the year is
memorable for everyone.
I have met a wide variety of people around Ancaster hall in our short time here, and my
approachability will help me to fulfil my promise to make the year memorable for
everyone. I also believe I have the characteristics, such as good communication and
management skills to make a meaningful contribution to this years JCR.
Daniel Sonn
As the Treasurer of Ancaster Hall, I would allocate a significant amount of the funds to
improve the social aspects of the hall. This would include funding social events (exclusive
to Ancaster) and improving the JCR. Most importantly, I am interested in becoming the
Treasurer at Ancaster Hall because I am an enthusiastic, highly driven and motivated
problem-solver, who has the ability to work well in a growing and ambitious team.
I am asked to say why I should be selected to any, or possibly all, other applicants for
the Treasurer Position at Ancaster Hall. That is not for me to judge. I can only say why I
have a desire to work as a key member for the leading hall at the University of
Nottingham.
Regarding relevant experience in dealing with finances, on an internship at Coller Capital
(the leading global investor in private equity's secondary market), I worked with the
Investment Team to analyse how funds had been performing and predict future
performance. This inspired me to participate in the IFS Student Investor Challenge, with
teams investing virtual money in the stock market. I was my school's team captain and
have discovered a desire to understand how the financial markets operate and how mass
psychology explains their dynamics.
Activities Rep
Fredrick Flinn
For the social aspect of university life I feel it is important to organise events which will
cater to all people, from nights outs clubbing, to pub quizzes, to nights in halls. These
events will not focus on drinking but instead concentrate on creating a friendly
environment in which all people can socialise
.
I am a confident and sociable people, I enjoy going out but also have had a lot of fun in
halls when I stay in, so feel I have a good knowledge of what people would enjoy. I get
on well with everyone in halls and make an effort to speak to new people.
Sports Co-ordinator

Elizabeth Horsman
This year I would like to promote and encourage as many people as possible to get
involved in IMS sport. I love sport and find it a brilliant way to meet new people even a
few weeks into term. Many people would like to get involved in sport but are put off by
the intensity of the university teams and it would be brilliant for many people in
Ancaster to make the most of hall life. For next year’s fresher’s I would like to make
them aware of the opportunities for IMS sport before they arrive so as early as possible
people are aware and interested and more teams can be put together to include as
many people as possible.
I am easy going yet organised and reliable person who would really love to get involved
in the JCR and do the most for my hall. I have a big interest in sport, am approachable
and would do as much as possible to share my enthusiasm and help those who want to
get involved to do so.
Matt Murray
Inter Block events to integrate the groups made since fresher’s week.
Previous experience running school 5-aside league and Inter-House events for lower
school during sixth-form.
Emma Ludlow
If I were to be elected as Sports Coordinator I would try to organise a range of events to
suit everyone in Ancaster. We could have events such as inter-block sports competitions,
first years vs second years, etc. Some people in the Hall may do a sport that not
everyone knows much about, so a try-out day for the more “unusual” sports would be a
good opportunity for people to learn and meet others around the Hall with a similar
interest. I would try to get social groups who maybe don’t participate in sports often to
try out something new, which can be really fun especially when you’re sticking with
friends! There will be equal importance to both boys’ and girls’ sports and hopefully an
event that can incorporate mixed teams.
As a competitor at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, having played Table Tennis
in Northern Ireland since the age of 6, I feel I would be a good representative in the
sports section of Ancaster. I have had the opportunity of participating in various
multisport events and know what it is like to play in both team and individual sports. I
will be a good leader and will listen to everyone’s opinion in order to consider what is
best for those in a group/team. I will try to be on top of all IMS sports
teams/competitions so that I can notify people of what is important for them.
Welfare Rep (Male)
This position is currently vacant.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Amy Bamberger
I would arrange more varied Ancaster events more regularly so that people who are not
into clubbing may also feel more involved. These smaller events could be bowling,
cinema or wine tasting. I would also make an evening once a month where one has to
have dinner sitting next to two people they don't know. This will encourage new
friendships and will allow shyer people to interact with people they did not know
previously.
I am known for being a good listener evident by my election as a buddy and prefect at
my secondary school. I am able to show empathy whilst not being a pushover; my
friends all compliment me on being able to come up with particle solutions to a wide
range of problems. I have enjoyed my first month at Ancaster and want to help anyone
who isn’t finding it easy to settle in.
Danielle Lyon
I think the best way to make the hall experience an inclusive one is to always have
something going on that will appeal to everyone. Some students live for nights out
clubbing whilst others much prefer staying in and watching a film. By running events that
appeal to wide varieties of people we can make sure to try and make the residents feel
included in some aspect of life at Ancaster. Even though you are surrounded by people I
think it is easy to feel alone when moving away for the first time, I want to make all
residents feel like they are gaining a family rather than moving away from one. A key
thing to do is to run events or meet ups for smaller groups e.g. LGBT+ or international
students as these groups are likely to sometimes struggle with inclusion.
As head girl of my previous school I have had experience leading a group, working
closely with peers and staff and speaking in front of large crowds of people. I ran weekly
school council sessions and had regular meetings with my principal to discuss any issues
raised and work to help solve them. I really want to get involved with the university and I
think becoming a part of the Ancaster JCR would be a great way to do so. Moving to
university can be a difficult experience and students are always being faced with new
challenges whilst away from home I'd like to help others deal with those challenges and
make them aware that they are not alone in their struggles and there is lots of help
available. Being part of the JCR seems like a great way to help improve life in halls for
everyone.
Environment & Social Justice Rep
Olivia Beagley
To ensure that the events and experiences within Ancaster are wide-reaching and
accessible to all, I will continue to form good relationships with the people around me.
This will encourage people to approach me with any issues, environmental or otherwise,
and feel confident that their concern or idea has been taken seriously.
If I was elected to represent environmental and social justice, I believe that it would be
part of my role to view everyone as an equal and therefore each individual would have
the same opportunity to get involved, regardless of their race, belief or national origin.
I believe that our Hall is already a very inclusive community, yet I would love to be able
to give individuals a greater voice to determine the direction and resolution of
environmental and social issues within Ancaster Hall.
I believe I would be successful in the position of Environmental and Social Justice Rep as
campaigning and raising awareness concerning environmental issues is something I have
been doing for several years now. I have found that through the various protests I have
attended, as well as the countless hours I have spent researching and forming arguments
regarding the issues to hand, when I am passionate about something it takes a lot to
stop me from backing down before an outcome is realised.
I will also use my degree in Environmental Science as a springboard for creating and
developing ways in which together, as a Hall, we can make a positive difference to the
community in which we are all now a part of. It takes effort from every individual to
ensure the environment we now call our home is a pleasant and happy place to be.

I would try to organise events that could include all people's from Albion house. I feel as
though participation is key and a wide range of activities, festivities and all-round found
to include is much needed in albion house. Events for all in the courtyard with some
desperately needed advertisement both online and with flyer giving could unite the halls
and make us smash this year at uni in unison. I LOVE MY HALLS AND I WANT Us ALL TO
BE ONE.
I feel as a socialist advocate i could be a voice of the people, by the people and for the
people. Democracy is my game and i would love to do everything in my power to try
and bring together albion house. From my 3 weeks in Albion I relish the tight knit
community i offer but i want to strive for more. I want to make Albion a prominent halls
out of Broadgate's shadow. I want to be a voice for the people!!
Vice President
Georgina O’Kane
The main issue I have found is that while talking to people in other accommodation,
they aren't familiar with where or what Albion house is. I think the most important thing
is that Albion house becomes known as its own group of halls. This could be solved with
ideas such as more activities held exclusively at Albion rather than just at Broadgate,
personalised Albion jumpers in order to feel more like a member of a community. We
may be part of Broadgate as a company, but we are very much Albion house as a
community.
James Gordon
Ensure every person knows who I am so it is easy to approach me to ask questions, try
and get new students to interact in the first few days through games/bonding activities
to lay foundations for the rest of the year and also attempt to offer a wide variety of
events over time to include all tastes and hobbies using a suggestion noticeboard or
something similar so that everyone can put forward ideas.
I already know lots of the people in my halls and I think I'm very easy to talk to so
anybody with problems or suggestions would feel comfortable coming to me. I am
currently a rep for Antics and Fluxx in Nottingham so I have experience promoting
events.
Treasurer
Michael Andrew Kendall
I would ensure that there are as many channels as possible for students, through the
JCR, to enable their voices to be heard, so that positive changes can be made that
benefit Albion House, as well as ensuring that anyone who wants to voice their concerns
is able to, rather than allowing the loudest voices to dominate conversation.
I am well suited to the role of treasurer as I have good knowledge of budgeting for an
educational organisation, as I was the finance officer of my college Student Union. I can
budget efficiently, and organise fundraising events if necessary, as well as help out with
the day to day running of the JCR.
James Li
I would involve all the residents in Albion and regularly talk to them, in person and
through social media, to make sure their experience at Albion is a fulfilling one.
I am very responsible and organised which makes me very apt for this position. Also I
am a good communicator and can work well with others.
Megan Sandey
In order to help make the hall experience a more inclusive one, I would try to organise a
wider variety of hall socials. Along with bar crawls, I would organise events that would be
calmer and more relaxed such as movie nights and pub quizzes (these are just two ideas,
I believe the activities list should be open to suggestion). This would allow people to
make friends at their own pace and socialise how they want to.
Another idea is to put the available courtyard space to better use: it seems like most of
the grass is always empty. I'm confident that having a range of small events spread
throughout the year will encourage people to use the available space to their advantage,
and get to know each other more. Some examples might include occasional food stalls
and student-run society demonstrations.
I am passionate about the Albion House community, and while holding events with
Broadgate Park is important, I also believe that we should hold more independent events
and appreciate what our smaller community has to offer. Our size allows us the
opportunity to appreciate each other more, and see every resident as an individual and
neighbour, instead of just a face across the courtyard.
I am well-suited to the role of treasurer, as prior to attending University, I acted as
treasurer for a social action project within my local community. I also took on a similar
role for the various events held by my sixth form. I am keen on budgeting and I work
hard to get the best deal in any situation. As a mathematics student I enjoy the
opportunity to work with numbers, and I can't wait to use my training to benefit Albion
House.

Welfare Rep (Male)
Nathan Lyne
I would make sure I am approachable and sympathetic to everyone's need and concerns.
Taking time to listen to people's needs and making sure they are tackled is central to
making sure the halls experience is an inclusive one. As welfare officer making sure
people feel at ease with studying, socialising and generally inhabiting here at Albion is
very important. Taking a holistic approach to this, the fact that issues are connected will
make sure I can make a difference.
I believe I have a wealth of experience with listening to people's concerns and acting on
them. I was a mentor at my sixth form and I work at a disabled children's Playscheme in
the holidays at home. This proves that I am willing to take the time to accommodate
people's needs. I also work with refugees at the STAR society.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Eleanor Johnson
I would set up monthly meetings in which residents can come and make suggestions for
how to improve the community at Albion, as well as get to know the other residents
better. For those who would not want to attend the meetings, I would have a suggestion
box placed in reception, where residents can make comments. In addition, I would hold
events regularly in the courtyard of Albion as a more informal space for residents to
meet each other.
The position of Welfare Rep appeals to me in particular as I feel it is incredibly important
that everyone feels comfortable and safe at university. I have had previous experience
with this through being a mentor at my secondary school for the new younger years,
helping them to settle into school life and make friends. I also have immediate family
and close friends who suffer from mental health problems, and so I would be
comfortable discussing these issues, knowing the impact they can have on daily life. I
have also applied (and been selected for interview) for a position as a Nightliner, which
shows my wish to be involved in welfare at the university. If I was elected, I would use
this previous experience, and also ensure I was available to students at least once a day,
and make sure everyone felt comfortable coming to talk to me.
Maud Arnold
I would make an effort to interact with personally interact with everyone, finding out
exactly how or if anyone needs help and whether it is a communal issue or not.
I would liaise with the activities rep to ensure that there are activities everyone feels they
can be involved with and altogether ensure everyone is happy in halls!
I am a friendly person and get on with everyone. I love the halls atmosphere when
everyone is having a great time!
I am willing and able to set aside time deal with any problems and to further any
activities.
Maisy Titterton
I would work with the JCR team to make the experience of living in Albion House a fun
and sociable one. I would love to be a part of a team that organises events for the
Albion residents and brings our small but lively community even closer. As much as it is
important to look after the welfare of the Albion house community, I am also keen to
look after the welfare of the individual, so I would make myself known to people living
here that I am there if anyone needs to talk about something, maybe setting up an
'agony aunt' page where people can write in anonymously about anything thats worrying
them.
I have experience in welfare support and pastoral roles. I was a Peer Mentor in my old
school and had training in active listening, confidentiality and dealing with more serious
issues, for example bullying. Also going to boarding school for 10 years has made me an
expert at dealing with homesickness, something which everyone at university is bound to
experience at some point.
Environment & Social Justice Rep
Devika Sharma
Firstly, I would ensure that all students feel safe and included in their living environment.
If there are any problems I would make it known that I am there to help solve queries
and be as approachable as possible so people are comfortable to talk to me. Social
events are a great way to meet with an interact with new people so I would encourage
events that include both going out and more low key events for those who prefer
staying in, this would help to include everyone in social activities.
I love to volunteer and have taken part in a number of charitable activities. I have helped
numerous times in a homeless shelter in Bristol, serving food and talking to those who
are less fortunate. I have also done work experience with the Green Party, working with a
Green Party Counsellor to draft a press release on the party's waste policy.

I would reach out to everyone in the building and invite them to get involved in hall
activities. I would also ask residents for their suggestions and feedback and design social
activities based on what people are interested in.
I am very good at communicating with people and am easy to get along with. I also
have experience working on committees and in Student Union positions at other

I believe that one of the biggest challenges to exclusivity within the cloister house is the
lack of a designated common space. I would strive to build a safe, comfortable, and
inclusive digital common space to allow for more open hall activities.
Throughout my undergraduate degree I was awarded the opportunity to work both on
and with several student led boards. As a result, I am comfortable with the process of
listening to the opinions of a large group of students and acting as a group to
implement suggested changes. I hope to do this in a way that supports the desires of
the majority without removing the validity of the less supported idea or leaving
individuals within the hall feeling uncomfortable being involved in hall events.

I would like to apply for this position to help inspire students to think of innovative ways
to improve their halls and promote the JCR, because I believe that only with strong
student support can a halls committee be successful in creating change.
To make living in halls a more inclusive experience I would try to create more social
events (along with free food!). To fund this, I would try to raise more awareness about
the Halls committee, alongside creating more fund raising opportunities.
Furthermore, I would work on improving Wi-Fi and phone signal, as well as arranging
morning hangover sessions where students can sober up together.
Additionally, I want to create study groups for students who want to study in a working
atmosphere. I will ensure these groups are for people studying similar degree
backgrounds.
Finally, I will focus on creating more events with a focus on helping international and
home students integrate.
I'm a sociable, resourceful guy who wants to improve the student experience and bring a
fresh outlook to the way halls committees are run.
Also love Yik Yak and Crisis Wednesdays.
Jessica Lendon
I will ensure BGP offers a wide range of events to cater for all. From catering for
individuals whether it be thrilling movie nights in the common room or intense IMS
matches, to bringing the whole of Broadgate together through a monumental BGP big
night out. But don't worry free food events will always be at the top of my priority. BGP
is the biggest hall in Europe, it means we can be the biggest student family in Europe
and I want to create an atmosphere so that is possible, so everyone feels welcome and
at home in BGP. I just want everyone on BGP to have a great year and make the most of
university life. Most importantly I will make sure we show the other halls that BGP is the
best because size really does matter!
I am a very enthusiastic and outgoing person as some of you may already know. I
scream positivity and motivation and I believe this would allow me to manage the
committee to its maximum potential meaning you guys would get the best events,
lowest prices and biggest improvements BGPs JCR has ever seen. I am a people person
and I love getting to know new people, so I'd like to think I'm approachable if you had
any suggestion or queries you would like to bring to me.
Sagar Vasandani
I would increase the use of the communal areas by organising regular activities. This
would encourage everyone to meet each other and would cater for all likes. Intra hall
competitions in events such as an obstacle course, best decorated block for Christmas,
and a ‘Great Broadgate Bake Off’ are examples of integrating everyone. In addition, after
having spoken to residents in Broadgate Park, they have expressed an interest in evening
socials. The Courtyard is a great space to host a BBQ or a karaoke night. Furthermore, I
would make sure that the welfare of residents is a priority by planning sessions where
people can discuss any feelings they may have and gain some support.
As a candidate with a strong sense of accountability and great attitude to work, I have
many transferable skills from my participation in a number of activities during college
and summer holidays. I am ambitious and focused and can easily adapt to different
fields of work and responsibilities. I love to share my knowledge and skills with other
people. With lots of natural enthusiasm, I set high standards for others and myself and
like to keep my eye on achieving goals. I am resourceful and have the confidence and
passion to inspire those around me. I am happy to represent the hall and ensure
promises of change are carried through.
Rohan Vyas
Hi friends, Namaste!
This is Rohan Vyas; studying LLM in International Criminal Justice & Armed Conflicts. I
come from India which is the world’s largest democracy. I am just another face from the
crowd who wishes to take up the responsibility to communicate and advocate for all my
fellow mates in the capacity of their representative. I ‘Reckon’ about events that happen
in life, which is actually is what the heart and soul of my manifesto.
What all I can promise is that I will work on the principle of “Equal amongst Equals”
where every single friend will not just be heard but will also be considered in the good
faith of everyone who is associated with the Broadgate park.
Hi,
This is Rohan Vyas.
My warm greetings to all my fellow mates. I’m optimistic that my manifesto for the
position of Broadgate Park President will be able to grab a piece of your attention.
I come from India – a country which is a kaleidoscope of cultures and thus I deeply
discern the significance of ‘EQUALITY and DEMOCRACY’.
I desire to be the face and voice of you all and want you to be my heart and soul in turn
– incomplete without each other. I am a committed individual I vow to channelize my
intellect and energy into making the coming year outright in all respects. Therefore I
seek your support in form of your valuable votes.

I would make the hall experience more inclusive by ensuring that funds are made
available for a wide variety of events. By maintaining a responsible budget throughout
the year I feel that I will be able to ensure that all residents benefit from the activities
that the JCR plan.
Being a fourth year student I feel I will bring a more mature voice to the JCR and use my
experiences to help make the committee better in every area. I am also a very organised
and punctual person with an attention to detail. Also, being a maths student I am very
good at dealing with numbers. All said I think these attributes make me an ideal
candidate to be treasurer for the Broadgate Park JCR.
Activities Rep
Oliver
Everything.
Everything else.
Rachael White
In order to make the hall experience an inclusive one I would organise activities with the
aim of not only integrating students with others living in their block, but also from other
blocks. It would be great for these halls to be a real community and allow everyone to
meet a range of people; and as someone living in a studio I can relate to how one could
become quite isolated. I would also aim to make activities and events that would cater to
all types of interests and use feedback and suggestions from the students in order to
make improvements which should help towards ensuring the most enjoyable and
inclusive hall experience for everyone.
As I’ve had positions on committees before, such as the prom committee, school council
and peer mentor scheme, I a familiar with leadership roles and can work well
independently and in managerial positions. Similarly I also understand the importance of
team work and incorporating the ideas of others in order to ensure the end product is
one that accommodates to all. I should be elected as I take pride in whatever I do and
always do it to the best of my ability to ensure that the execution is always to the
highest degree. I’d also like the chance to meet other students and network with others
but most importantly to make the most of my time at university and try my best to
make the experience the best not only for me but for everyone living here!
Environment & Social Justice Rep

One thing I would like to change around Broadgate Park is to make everyone more ecofriendly and alert to his or her environment and surroundings; inevitably improving the
status regarding environmental sustainability. Achieved by bringing in enlightening,
educational talks by experts in this field and putting up bold, visible awareness posters
and notions around the halls.
This includes a greater emphasis on recycling; with an addition of a food-composting bin
in every kitchen, where waste fruit and vegetables among other suitable items for
composting can be placed with the intention of using the compost in the Broadgate’s
green spaces. Another key issue is conserving electricity by using energy saving light
bulbs with lower voltages, along with switching of all room lights and power sockets
when not in use. I have noticed that certain lights indoors remain on throughout the
whole night; therefore sensor lights should be place throughout the hallways.
I am a friendly, approachable but firm person. This allows students to talk to me at any
time, and I would love to assist others whenever in need. I am a good listener and will
hear out people’s ideas, with the intention of implementing them in if its suitable and
practical. As well as being able to communicate well with the fellow JCR body and other
members, since teamwork is key to having a successful output.
From past experiences, I have gained qualities of commitment, reliability and hard work;
therefore would be able to handle strenuous tasks and fully take on the duties.
In addition, I am currently studying Environmental Biology thus already in the
environmental field; whereby I could apply knowledge learnt from class into practical
work at Broadgate. I will try bring change into Broadgate Park for the better, with
relation to fellow members and their opinions.

To live in Broadgate Park is to live in a community as diverse as the university itself, and
therefore I will do my upmost to create activities for all interests, those who enjoy nights
out and for those who don't. I will make sure that anyone who wants to go out will not
need to worry about getting home safely, as from personal experience; I know the
importance of this. I want Broadgate to be well known for its inclusiveness, and will
endeavour to get everyone involved in different activities so they can make their time at
one of the largest student villages in Europe a memorable one. One idea in which this
would be possible is in the creation of inter-block activities such as sport, quizzes and
other games, where participants strengthen crucial bonds with their flatmates whilst
meeting new people and forming new relationships between blocks
An important aspect of university involves developing responsibility and using one’s
initiative. I firmly believe that my appointment in this position would be the next step of
this development. The main reason that I came to university was to enhance my
education and study a subject about which I am extremely passionate. However aside
from my studies, I firmly believe that it is important to engage in the social aspect of
university. I often hear of people struggling to cope at university, who are not grasping
opportunities to escape from their studies. There is a scientific consensus that continuous
study can have a negative effect on, not only a person’s health, but also their academia. I
would feel a huge sense of achievement in aiding these people’s journey through
university.

Sports Rep
Amber Torkington
I would make sure that everyone was involved in the sports days and demonstrate that
there is something sporty for everyone to do. I would promote sport and show that it's a
key activity to be involved in especially in your first year of university. I would like to
hold monthly/fortnightly sporting activities to raise money for charity such as sports
quizzes, silly sports races and also some sort of crazy obstacle course to get everyone
from the whole of Broadgate involved!
I am the first team IMS netball captain for Broadgate and am thoroughly enjoying the
experience. As well as playing at uni, I played for my county in Cardiff at netball. I also
love playing sports for fun and have recently joined the squash society even though I've
never played before but am loving it. I like to get involved with as much sport as
possible as I believe it is extremely important in helping you succeed in maintaining a
work-life balance and meeting new people as well as boosting your confidence and self
esteem! I'm a very keen Welsh rugby fan too so I'm full of enthusiasm for any form of
sports and am determined to get everyone involved at Broadgate!
Ryan Brown
I would help to organise socials and events that are accessible to all and ensure people
are well informed. I would help organise sports teams to ensure all those wanting to play
have the opportunity and know what's occurring where.
I have good time management and social skills and am very organised. I have worked on
various prom and ball committees and enjoy discussing new ideas.

President
Jake Cavendish
I feel as though to make Cavendish Hall a more inclusive environment, more effort
should be put into making those who don't enjoy going out feel as though they belong
just as much to these halls as those who do. I would aim to hold more social evenings
for Cavendish, while perhaps also providing a day out at an attraction. Table Tennis
tournaments and karaoke night are just a few of the ideas I had.
I'm a confident speaker who's tried to make everybody feel welcome. I like to talk and
socialise with people and feel as though I have the empathy to listen and understand the
problems or issues that people would bring forward to me.
Vice President
Laura Frosdick
I would suggest a range of activities with in my hall so that there is something for
everyone, and so that many different people living in the Hall could come together,
I feel this is particularly important for a catered hall like mine, where not everybody is
able to met/ know everybody living here.
I should be elected as during my time at high school I joined a range of clubs so have
knowledge about different types of activities from crafts, to high endurance sport.
Additionally I am a very sociable person.
Treasurer
Ben Moat
In order to make the hall experience an inclusive one I would aim at making sure that
the hall's finances in regard to social activity are appropriately spread around to cater for
the different interests of Cavendish Members. It is clearly vital as Treasurer that not all
the money provided is spent at once but it is also essential that it is not only spent in
certain areas that might not cover everybody's interests. After all, the Hall Committee is
supposed to represent the hall as a whole and shouldn't be organised to represent the
wants of a few. Obviously Cavendish’s intake varies from Stealth + Brickworks goers to
Ocean goers and as Treasurer I would try my uttermost to make sure that everybody’s
needs are met.
I believe that I am both fair and firm which I think are vital qualities needed to be
Treasurer. The last thing we need as a hall is a Treasurer who is easily persuaded into
giving money to causes that are simply not affordable. It is easy to think when in control
of a large yearly budget that everything is affordable however; large spending can often
lead to 'financial karma'. As a business student with one of my main modules being
financial accounting, I believe I would be the appropriate person to organise where and
when to spend and also to set out our expenditure in an organised manner. Personally, I
have always been good at knowing where to look for the best deals (especially on
Smirnoff) and I am a good negotiator, which comes in handy when dealing with a
sometimes-stingy student loan.
Lewis Townsend
Since joining I have tried to get to know as many people as possible. If I was voted
Treasurer I would ensure I am a friendly face which everyone knows and feels
comfortable in talking to. I would listen and try my best to take on board everyone's
ideas and feelings. If someone feels they are being excluded in the hall I will be available
to help them so that no one is left out.
Having previously been Deputy head boy at my Sixth form I have gained the skills and
knowledge required for a position on my hall committee. One key skill from this is being
trustworthy, allowing people to talk to me with full confidence about their issue. Also
through being an FA referee I have met and dealt with many different people in a vast
range of situations. Lastly I believe I am suited to the position of treasurer through my
studies of Financial Mathematics.
Marco Laurence & Zachary Collins
In order to make the hall experience an inclusive one we would aim to ensure that
everyone’s needs are catered to. We strongly believe that the job of ‘welfare’ and
‘inclusivity’ is not exclusive to the welfare representatives; it is a responsibility of the
whole committee. We would thus try to fund as many social events and experiences as
the budget will allow, enabling everyone within Cavendish to meet one another and feel
part of the ‘Cavendish family’. We are sensitive to a range of personalities and cultures
and this will guarantee that no share of the halls is left out. We aim to create an
approachable environment where anyone can propose suggestions, queries or problems
which we can help them solve, thus making the hall experience more inclusive.
We believe that we should be elected as co-treasurers of Cavendish Hall due to our past
experience that will allow us to excel at the tasks that would come our way. Zack has
experience in co-founding and managing a local football club, which involved organizing
membership fees, keeping track of funds and producing agendas, amongst other things.
Zack was also on the charity committee of his secondary school and thus has experience
in delegating funds to complete objectives. Marco was head of his school’s Economics
Society during his last two years of secondary school; a job which entailed monitoring
funds within the society and ensuring that they remained within budget. Marco also
worked in the emergency services team of an ambulance during his gap year, which
enabled him to further develop his leadership and teamwork skills, both of which we
believe to be integral to success as a treasurer of Cavendish Hall and as part of the
Cavendish Committee. Therefore, due to our past experience in managing funds and
working successfully in a team, we believe that we should be elected as co-treasurers for
Cavendish Hall.
Activities Rep
Sarah Gaskin
Everyone has different interests so to get everyone involved is a challenge, but I would
offer a wide range of activities that catered for everyone. I would listen to what people
want to do and try to accommodate to their needs. I would provide support and
encouragement to get everyone actively involved and feel welcome and comfortable.
I was on the school council committee at my school and in this role, I had to listen to
everybody's ideas. I then had to work with the bursar and the headmaster to come up
with logical suggestions about how to make improvements to the school. I have skills
that are transferable to the role of Activities rep as I thoroughly enjoy organising events.
I organised a charity horse show with my friend to raise money for the 'stand up to
cancer' campaign.
Jack Wren
I think one of my main objectives as president of the JCR would be to improve the bar
in Cavendish in order to create a more friendly, welcoming environment; much like The
Long Pond-a pub I co-manage.
I will also aim to improve the pool table as I believe it provides superb entertainment for
all members of the hall, and is an excellent gateway for meeting new like-minded pool
lovers, and making friends.
Maria Ramalho de Fonseca
I'd try to make everyone have the same experience I'm currently having by making them
feel at home and have the best time possible. I would also make sure that no one is
unhappy and help with any problem or enquires people may have.
I should be elected because I am a massive fan of Cavendish Hall and although I've only
been here for 3 weeks I already consider it home. I want people to have the same
experience I'm having. Also, as an EU student, I want to help international students and
EU students like myself feel at home here.

I will make sure we have at least one social a month to ensure that the hall mixes. This
will allow everyone to bond with one another and have a fair opportunity to make
friends. I think this will help people to meet others from different courses and be
exposed to various cultures and backgrounds. I will create a noticeboard, which hall
members can write on showing a clear plan of what is happening each evening. This will
reduce the risk of exclusion as since being at university I have found people often don't
know what is happening/ what events to go to on a certain night.
During the sixth form I was a welfare counsellor, so I have previously been exposed to
many problems and difficulties that teenagers experience on a day-to-day basis. I am
able to offer support and guidance to all and pass on my enthusiasm for getting
involved in university life. I have also led a youth camp for the past two summers where I
have held a welfare role. I am a very trustworthy person and my door is always open. I
like to think I am friendly, warm and approachable.
Ellen Granger
Try and get everyone involved in activities, by mingling and getting to know as many
people as possible, so that they feel that they know someone doing things or that are in
the JCR. Also by introducing people to each other so that everyone gets to know quite a
few people and mingle well.
I'm quite a caring and friendly person, so I think I'm quite approachable which I think is
good for this role as people will feel more comfortable with coming to me with
problems and issues that they have.

President
Oscar Rees
If elected I would aim in particular to further social integration between the residents in
Cripps by encouraging greater use of communal areas, especially the JCR which I feel has
been under-utilised thus far in the semester. Furthermore I would look to engage
residents in Cripps with activities over the weekend, as other than Karnival there is very
little offered, so I would look to offer more for those with spare time such as group
sports on The Downs.
I feel that over the first four weeks of university I have become very well connected with
students both of Cripps hall and the rest of the university, so I will be able to quickly flag
any problems brought to my attention. I feel I would be well suited to the role of
President as I am confident yet also highly approachable and hence feel that my past
experience as a senior mentor and being head of the CCF for my sixth form has given
me qualities well suited for this role.
Edward Eggleton
I feel more needs to be done to include students from different backgrounds, groups
etc. I would want to invite people from societies such as the LGBT network and
international groups to come into dinner and ensure that everyone is aware of people
that can support those from minority backgrounds and groups. I would also want to
ensure there were socials for those who do not drink as they are often left out of hall
events.
I feel that I am able to talk to anyone in halls and listen to their thoughts on the hall and
how it should be improved. I have lots of experience organising groups of people and
balancing their ideas and points and I feel that is what is needed in a JCR member. I
have engaged in many of the JCR events put on and I have a good understanding of the
social and organisational needs required when putting on these events and I am capable
in these areas.
Luc Magwood
Being an extremely enthusiastic individual with an excellent knowledge and know-how of
the University and the Student Union. Becoming President would provide an absolutely
exceptional opportunity to demonstrate what it takes to develop a phenomenal student
experience for all students to thoroughly enjoy, take a part of and ultimately, remember
for the rest of their lives.
I look forward to making every student feel special and feel a part of this magnificent
hall and promise to bond perfectly with every individual I meet through a warm, pleasant
and charismatic personality. Organisational skills are astute and University deadlines are
always met, which will ensure a reliable and guaranteed success in this position. I look
forward to working passionately with a new committee and developing new, innovative
and exciting ideas to make this year's experience even better than the last.
Having accomplished the Year Long Astronomy Secretary Position at the University in
2014 with a great degree of success, a vast wealth of experience has already been
achieved that will be of extreme benefit for this role. The role involved readily organising
Telescope Sessions and innovating students in a very positive, upbeat and fascinating
manner. All deadlines were readily met and each session was always turned up to with a
strong bounty of enthusiasm and desire. I was always on hand to help and assist the
students at all times and rapidly resolve their problems. I liaised very closely with the
committee, turned up to all events, developed strong team rapport and took initiative to
lead the team and provide new ideas. This ensured an innovative approach and a society
that operated very smoothly. As a result we won ‘Best Departmental Society’ and ‘Best
Society’ the following year.
Blake Purchase
I believe that Cripps Hall is not as inclusive as it could be. Having engaged in a dialogue
with residents past and present, I have come to the conclusion that there is something
fundamental missing from life in Cripps compared to other Halls. As President, I will be a
very strong and persistent advocate of more autonomy from the SU, enabling residents
themselves to voice more loudly than ever before, their vision for Hall life in Cripps.
One of my biggest concerns surrounds the future of the our Hall Bar. Once the centre of
Hall life, the majority of the time it stands empty. Measures could be taken to incentivise
the usage of this fantastic space by all residents in Cripps more regularly than at present.
This could include installing a pool table back into the bar and introducing pool and
music evenings with bar service. To make this happen, I would reach out to anybody
willing to assist, potentially including the Cripps Hall Association.
In deciding After-Formal venues, I believe the residents of Cripps should be given a say.
If there is a choice of venue following any Formal, a simple poll could be conducted on
the Facebook group, as opposed to the Committee deciding amongst themselves where
everybody should go.
Building upon the sound progress made by last year's JCR Committee, this year will be
the most inclusive year yet with something for everyone.
As my photo indicates, I have the personal and very emphatic backing of Boris
Johnson himself, having met him on several occasions.
On a serious note, I have the experience and drive to succeed in the role, already
participating widely in University life.
I am Editor of Die Nottinghamer Rundschau, which has seen me conduct
interviews with journalists and academics. I am also General Secretary of NUCA, a
role which includes liaising between the Committee and the SU, in addition to
booking venues for events that occasionally revolve around prominent guest
speakers and politicians.
I spent much of the summer interning with the Sheriff's Department in San
Francisco, which involved everything other than firearm training. In addition to
studying Politics, I speak German and Italian, so am in a great position to provide
multilingual input!
From WiFi issues in hall, to any potential issues surrounding food, I will listen and
actively engage with the hardworking, dedicated teams that support our student
life in Cripps, in the pursuit of resolutions.
The net is that I am the right candidate for President, with the right skill-set to
ensure the Committee gains traction and makes Hall life in Cripps this academic
year, successful.
Bruce Jones
I have had a fantastic time during my first few weeks of term and this is essentially all
down to the reps and the members of the JCR that have put in the countless hours of
effort in order to make sure that everyone settles in well and enjoys themselves. That
said there are always things that can be improved upon and if elected I would
encourage the other blocks to integrate with each other by increasing the number of
block to block socials that will enable students to meet new people outside of their own
block. I would also make sure that new students are familiar with the facilities (i.e. the
bar and the gym) that the block has to offer and I would encourage more people to
utilise these facilities perhaps before deciding to go elsewhere i.e. to Mooch.
I would say that I am very approachable and a good listener. I would go out of my way
to sure that I possess all of the information that would answer any questions or queries
that students may have and if not then I would make sure that I could direct them to
someone that could help. I am a natural leader and find it very easy to plan and lead by
example. I feel like I possess the traits that will maintain and built upon Cripps halls
fantastic reputation across the campus.
Vice President
Anna Morris
Cripps is a very sociable Hall so I would probably just encourage more functions. Other
than formal dinners and sports we don't often come together as a Hall and there needs
to be events that cater to everyone's interests.
I have held positions of responsibility before and am therefore comfortable in dealing
with different situations, pressures and admin. I enjoy socializing and organizing events
and I want to ensure that everyone is having a great time and making the most of their
University experience.
Natasha Stewart
Whilst at university and living in Halls it is vital that everyone has the best experience
possible. This has to be helped by the halls JCR Committee. I think that inclusivity could
be achieved through the variety of different events that the JCR committee can hold. A
variety of events such as movie nights, sports nights etc. will appeal to a wide audience
and will involve a large range of people from all over the hall which may not normally
socialise together. In addition, as representatives for the hall it is vital to take an interest
in the welfare of students, where students having personal problems (which may or may
not include feelings of loneliness or homesickness) are helped to try and improve their
wellbeing and their university experience. This means working closely with students and
having a good rapport so that you are approachable for your peers.
I believe that I have many personal qualities and experiences which make me best suited
for being on the JCR committee. This is seen in my head student role that I undertook in
my final year at sixth form, where I was elected to work with students of all ages and
teachers. This portrays my proficiency in self-management and effective time keeping
skills. In addition, my leadership skills were exemplified in the organisation of a RAG
week in which I, along with a team, scheduled many events in order to raise money for
charity. We also worked together to organised the year 13 prom. The ability to work in a
team and with my peers is essential to convey improvements to the JCR and any
personal problems individuals may have. I take a great interest in the welfare of students
so am well suited for being part of the JCR.
Treasurer
Kush Desai
The hall would be able to cater for all types of cultures, nationalities, hobbies and
interests and be able to include everyone so that no one feels isolated.
With a finance based degree, I believe I would be able to use my expertise and also my
love of a good night and of fun social activities to make sure we use our money as
effectively but not sacrificing the wants and needs of the people at the same time.
Activities Rep
Will Richards
I would plan and prepare events that can take place within the JCR that would bring
together all students living within Cripps, with activities such as Pool competitions with
prizes, offers on drinks before nights out, and a place that everyone could meet before
every night out. I would attempt to create a communal spirit within Cripps.
I feel I am an approachable person with a fun, outgoing personality that would be able
to bring the students of Cripps hall together and create more of a family spirit that could
be continued throughout the year.
Sean Driscoll
If I am elected as an activities rep for Cripps Hall, I would ensure that there was a busy
activities programme available, and attractive, to everyone. I would run any activity there
is an interest for no matter what it was, anything from paintballing to an art gallery visit.
From speaking to people in Cripps it would seem that there is a feeling that not
everyone has many friends outside their own block, so as activities rep, I would attempt
to integrate the different blocks through different events in order to make Cripps more
sociable as a whole. I would also try to promote increased use of the JCR. Speaking to
people, lots of people don’t seem to have spent much time in there whatsoever so I
think it would be good to promote use of it in order to create a more sociable
communal area for us to use.
I believe I should be elected as activities rep because I am a confident, social and
Outgoing person and I would do as much as I could to create an environment in Cripps
which is as sociable as it could possibly be. I am not afraid of commitment or hard work
and understand that being part of the JCR will not be easy and that I will spend a lot of
time working and organising things for the committee. I have a variety of interests
ranging from sport to drama to music and so I would be keen to arrange lots of
different types of activities in order to address the diverse interests of the hall.
Sports Coordinator
Zoe Milton
To make sports and the hall experience inclusive I would really advertise IMS/hall sports
during freshers and encourage as many people to take part as possible by emphasising
the fun yet competitive aspects to persuade people to pick up old sports or try new
ones. I would enjoy chatting to as many people as possible to get them
involved/speaking in front of people. I find sports a great way to make friends and
generally enjoy myself so I would aim to get this across through getting as many
beginners as possible involved in different sports, primarily those organised by the hall.
I would make sure people know they can approach me; not only about hall sports but
also about anything else to do with Cripps- I found the committee to be like this this
year which made myself and everyone feel really included.
I'm passionate about getting as many people involved in sports as possible; beginners
especially, and I feel I would be good at this as I'm friendly, love socialising, and would
enjoy helping people find a sport they would like to start or join in with in hall sports.
I captained my lacrosse team last year so learnt and maintained many vital organisational
skills which I would utilise in the role. I am able to chase up people to make sure they
attend matches etc, and would be persuasive and enthusiastic enough about the hall
sports to ensure people do attend!
I love the sense of community in the halls and being a part of making things happen
and getting to know new people would be such a good experience, especially by
working in a team as I really enjoy that type of environment.
Selina Kisby
My first three weeks of university has been an experience that I will never forget and
that is all down to the hours of effort that the current hall committee members and the
activities reps have put in. I have found it very easy to find my feet and look forward to
the year ahead and I have only the staff at Cripps hall to thank for that. If elected for the
position of sports coordinator my main objective will be to encourage more people to
join in with Cripps hall sports activities. I was quite upset to see so few people turning
up for the inter house sports day during the first week of term and I feel like more effort
needs to be put in to make sure that everyone is aware of what is going on. I would also
try and encourage more sports based socials where we can take advantage of the sports
hall and our tennis courts and bring everyone in Cripps together to knock a ball around.
I am a very determined person and feel like I really can make a difference and build
upon Cripps' fantastic reputation.
Throughout my life, I have been a prolific sportswoman. I played County-level hockey
and competed at District, County and National levels in both the Javelin and High Jump,
becoming Devon County Champion in the Javelin. Participation in sport has given me a
competitive attitude in which I strive to succeed and be the best. Completing the Duke
of Edinburgh Gold Award was enormously fulfilling and led to other achievements, such
as the ‘Ten Tors Challenge’ – a 35 mile, team-based, trek across the Dartmoor National
Park – and the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. Participation in sport and
endurance challenges have taught me the value of preparation, training and team work,
and rewarded my best efforts with a sense of accomplishment. It is these experiences
and other responsibilities, which make me the ideal candidate for the position of sports
coordinator.
Daniel Moss
I would try to encourage more inter-block interactions to help create a more communal
feel across the whole hall. Beer tap in the JCR would definitely improve cripps friendships
as well as try to bring in other game tables. In terms of the JCR room I feel there is alot
to be done to get more people in there and create good vibes in the centre of cripps. I
also would try to arrange an annual cripps sports day for all to compete at any level near
the start of term to create bonds and friendships between lots of different people to
help all feel inclusive in the cripps hall atmosphere. I would advertise ims games to the
whole hall to try and increase spectator numbers to help our sports teams during
matches and feel more together as the best hall on campus.
As 1st XV captain at school, I feel I have gained good leadership skills, it also helped me
develop time management skills so I will be able to arrange the sports teams at cripps at
the same time as studying and socialising. I am a massive sports fan whether it be
football, rugby, cricket, volleyball or hockey. I love playing and watching all sports and
feel I will be able to give off good vibes around our cripps hall sports teams.

President
Ellie Soccorsy
University Halls are home to a diverse group of people who, despite their differences,
have ended up together because they have a shared interest in learning and education.
We know, however, that a large aspect of the university experience is about social
interaction and it is certainly important in making people feel at home. Therefore, I
would prioritise schemes or ideas that encourage connections between residents of
Derby Hall such as support groups, daytime social events and nights out. Specifically
though, I would target the idea of helping the different blocks of Derby Hall to interact
with each other by supporting inter-block socials or events. Living in Matlock House it
has been challenging to make friends in other blocks and I really believe that promoting
inter-block relations will help people to make friends and create a more inclusive Derby
Hall.
I should be elected because I am a very sociable person who will always be available for
people to talk to if they have a concern or idea. I would like to think I am approachable
and non-judgemental, so people could come to me with any sort of issue. Furthermore, I
am a caring person who will genuinely pursue the best for everyone in Derby Hall; even
if that requires negotiations between disagreeing parties. I am a good decision maker
with strong ideas, but also able to compromise when needed. I have excellent
organisational and time management skills which I think will be key to this position.
Laurence Raphael Wilkinson
I believe that university hall life is one of the most formative and special times for any
student of any background and personality type.
Dozens of guys and girls come to Derby to make home and experience a unity that I
believe should be unmatched elsewhere.
We are Derby Hall. I expect to govern a committee who care and love those in Derby as
we promote community.
I believe I personally own the leadership skills key to chairing meetings, overseeing reps
and representing our hall to the wider university.
I want to encourage and sustain a genuine excitement and commitment in each rep to
make being a part of this community better.
Vice President
Shilen Modi
Derby is a more than 300 strong hall with students from the UK and beyond.
With dozens of international students from around the world and especially Asia
there exists many unique social opportunities. I am passionate about using our
size and variety to help make Derby an incredibly special place to live.
I believe that each individual should be able to more easily meet others within
our hall. As such, I am keen to work closely with the social officers to improve
community for everybody.
I will do my best to work with the rest of the JCR and assist the president in both
contributing and overseeing the committee’s task of making sure that our Derby
Hall experience will last with us forever.
As Vice President I will work hard to assist other committee members in their
respective roles and also bridge the gap between the committee and each and
every individual who calls Derby home.
Edward Gilford
I would make sure there are plenty of social events occurring, with a great variety, as this
will mean there will be something for everyone. So this could range from a Bar crawl to
a board game night, as long as it means people who don’t already know each other are
coming together, then would rate it as a success.
I would also encourage more casual sports, so just a kick about on the downs or a
running club. This would again bring people together and create a bigger sense of
community within the Hall, overall resulting in an inclusive experience for everyone.
I would also encourage the mixing between international students and home students as
currently there is a large divide, this could be done by having evenings where we learn
about there cultures, like a cuisine night, and visa versa.
I think I could bring many skills to the JCR, due to having had some varied jobs such as
Lab Engineer, Lifeguard and ski instructor. From these I have learnt many life skills which
I am sure will help greatly with the running of the JCR. I think the most important of
these skills for this role are; team work, organisation, commitment and passion,
tolerance….
Treasurer
Georgina Ellis
I would work within the JCR committee team to arrange a wide range of events,
hopefully to cater for everybody's interests so that everyone would feel able to
participate in activities, building a welcoming and fun community. I would encourage
large and small scale activities to get everyone involved.
I am a friendly individual who loves to work in a team and organise events which bring
people together, and am willing to put in my time in order that everyone enjoys their
fresher’s year in Derby Hall. I love a good time and want to spread that to all in the hall
as there's more to uni than a degree! As an organised economics student, I would enjoy
the role as treasurer and find the best possible allocation of our annual budget.

* I would suggest that we have Inter-Block events, such as bar crawls and a sports day,
so that we all get to know each other better
* I would also suggest that we have movie night in the JCR once a week (with popcorn
and drinks)
* I'm the only person in H block that has not yet gone into their overdraft so I'll be good
at managing the Derby Army's money.
* Because I'm not as salty as everyone in Derby says I am.
Activities Rep
Joe Gannon
I want every person who has considered a society to not have a regret in that they didn't
join. I would organise events of different sizes, in example I would introduce inter-block
activities to offer an opportunity for Derby Hall residents to spend time with people they
haven't had a chance to yet. This would bring about an even larger community feel to
Derby, bringing people out of their immediate comfort zone in staying with people from
their block or course. I would make sure all ideas for fun, social activities are heard,
encouraging those with common or unique interests.
I am enthusiastic to be an Activities Rep as believe I can communicate efficiently with
everyone in Derby to organize the events/activities they would like to see. I aim to be a
voice for anyone with any idea they would like to see happen, bringing together people
with similar interests. This year is what we make it, a strong communication of ideas can
make this year even more memorable. Having great activities to do regularly will be a
great break from academic work. Seeing what Nottingham has to offer, using the great
space of the JCR and the green of our campus whilst meeting new people from Derby
along the way. Being elected I can bring forward desirable theme nights, hall socials and
try to get deals at the biggest clubs for Derby inclusively.
Amy Wolstenholme
Ensure that all the blocks in derby intertwine.
Because I like organising social events.
Amber Baxter-Clarke
If elected as activities rep, I believe it would be essential to ensure the students of Derby
Hall are fully satisfied with their first year social experience. I want to provide the
opportunity for students to engage with others, outside their block, to encourage a
sense of community within Derby. I would organise a wide range of activities that appeal
to all individual interests. I would primarily achieve this by implementing a system
whereby students can voice their ideas and suggestions for upcoming events. By doing
this, the JCR social events would be representative of what the students want and
therefore encourage them to attend. To further improve the hall experience, I wish to
make better use of the common room; for example, I am interested in investing in table
tennis and pool tables for friendly competition and organising movie nights for those
who enjoy a quiet night in.
I believe my previous leadership experience has provided me with relevant skills that
would enable me to succeed in the role of activities rep. As house captain of Music and
Drama at college, I had the opportunity to develop my social, organization and
communication skills; skills that I can utilise and build on if I am elected. I am patient,
approachable and eager to listen to other people’s opinions and will strive to ensure that
everyone’s voice is heard. However, I am equally enthusiastic to share my own ideas for
new social events and work in conjunction with my fellow JCR reps. I am passionate
about organising social events and would love the opportunity to demonstrate this
throughout the year. From organizing formal dinners to fundraising activities, I will work
hard to guarantee the events that have been collectively chosen by Derby Hall are
successful and enjoyed by all.

I would ensure that there is a wide range of diverse social events, suitable for everyone's
preferences, from themed night outs to pizza, movie nights. In addition to this, I would
organise events during both the working week & weekend, enabling everyone to have
the opportunity to take part and socialise with other fellow Derby Hall residents,
regardless of subject timetables or sports fixtures. Nevertheless, the most important
aspect of these events, would be to make sure that everyone has fun, making new
friendships along the way and embracing the uni lifestyle.
I should be elected as I feel that I could contribute to the Hall significantly, providing
new, exciting ideas for social events, for example: hosting a themed formal ball in the
courtyard of Derby, decorated with fairy lights and other props suitable for the event. I
am energetic, bubbly and reliable. As I play lacrosse for the uni, I have the ability to work
in a team effectively, yet also be independent. Before I came to uni, I worked part-time
as a waitress in a cafe, therefore I have acquired people/communication skills, which are
particularly important in this role.
Natalia Gonzalez
I would love to be a part of organising and advertising any kind of Hall socials/activitieswhether they involve just Derby or joint with other halls!
I think that promoting these events appropriately and enthusiastically, using both social
media and interaction during sociable hall hours, would be key in getting people from all
of our different blocks informed, excited and hopefully- involved.
Speaking to previous reps, it's clear that not every activity within hall life must involve
going to bars and clubs! So discussing ideas for more relaxed events is equally important
e.g. pub quizzes, cheese & wine nights, movie nights and get-togethers in the JCR.
Coordinating/having an input on the decoration of formals would undoubtedly be
rewarding as well.
To be sociable, respectful, and especially approachable, are qualities that I would hope to
express, and essentially exercise and improve on, through this great opportunity in Derby
Hall.
I feel that I should be elected because, although fresher’s week was enjoyable, honestly, I
found it was also a very overwhelming and scary experience. However, seeing the effort
our week one reps constantly put in gave me such a sense of relief and I knew that I
would love to have a similar role at some point in my hall experience.
I think it can be easily assumed that the most comfortable or confident person should be
given these roles of representation, but I personally think that it could be beneficial if
someone who admits and opens themselves up to the ups and downs of university is
given the task.
I know that I would make every effort to meet and talk to as many people as I can
through the role of activities rep, and encourage our students to make the most of hall
life along with me!
Sports Coordinator
Robert Lewis-Davies
As the Sports Coordinator I will strive to give everyone the opportunity to get involved
in sport as much as they wish. I will help with the organisation of our various IMS teams
and will promote the availability of these teams and show people how easy and
enjoyable it is to get involved. I will organise sporting events giving the opportunity to
be involved for all sporting levels. I hope to increase the number of people that are
involving themselves with sport in our hall so that Derby hall will be represented well
against the other various teams that we will play. I will be open to any ideas from
students at Derby Hall so that people can have the opportunity to create teams or have
go at sport that they would otherwise not have the opportunity to play.
I have a strong love of many sports and see myself to be organised which I think would
be key to this role. When it comes to sport I am very enthusiastic and hope that I can
pass this enthusiasm onto others. I would be dedicated to this role to ensure that
everyone has an easy and memorable experience with Derby Hall sport. I see myself to
be approachable and sociable which in my opinion is crucial important in encouraging
other people’s involvement with our sporting teams.
Chris Shine
Listening is a simple way to make the hall experience inclusive as by being approachable
and listening to hall residents' views we can ensure we are providing everyone with
equal opportunity to access sport.
Another way to ensure that the experience is inclusive is by appreciating that not
everyone's preferred participation method is performing. By providing access to
opportunities to coach and officiate it will allow everyone to get involved.
Finally I think it is important to identify that not everybody wants to play sport with the
same level of competitiveness. By offering a mixture of events ranging from casual
games to competitive fixtures it will help everyone feel included.
One reason why I think I may be best suited to the role is because of a combined
experience of elected positions of responsibility and a background in Sport.
I was elected Head Boy whilst at Sixth Form which is a particularly proud achievement of
mine and it was a role where my communication and organisational skills were really put
to the test.
Below is a summary of my background in Sport including all the sports I have been
formally involved with:
Cricket: ECB Level 2 Coach and Gloucestershire County Cricket Player up to u17's.
Football: FA Level 1 Coach, Level 6 Referee and a player from the age of 6 to now.
Tennis: LTA Level 1 Coach and Player from the age of 6+.
Olympic Platinum Sports Ambassador for South Gloucestershire
Welfare Rep (Male)
Harry Pavlou
Encourage an open community for joy, laughter and fun.
I always have time for a chat.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Rebecca Turner-Broadbent
As a welfare rep, I would ensure that there are a range of hall activities available to suit
all tastes and styles. I would like to organise a variety of activities, including cinema trips
or trips to the pub, as I know that not everybody is able to, or wants to, go clubbing. I
would make sure that activities are accessible to all who would like to take part and
would encourage everybody to get involved but I wouldn’t be too pushy if people were
not particularly interested. However, I would help and encourage anyone that may be a
bit shy or reluctant to participate in activities and reassure them about any concerns that
they may have. I would ensure that information about social events are shared across
many platforms including Facebook, Twitter, email and flyers so that as many people are
aware of the events as possible.
I would like to be elected as a welfare rep because I know how difficult it can be for
some people to get involved in hall activities. Personally, having a mobility disability
made me quite anxious about getting involved in certain welcome events but the current
JCR members went out of their way to ensure that activities would be accessible and to
put my mind at ease; I would like to help people in the same way for future events.
Whether it’s a disability, nerves, anxiety or just being a bit unsure about doing
something new that is worrying somebody, I am keen to make sure that everyone is
happy and comfortable in the activities that the JCR organises. I want to ensure that
nobody misses out on social activities and that everybody is happy and enjoying
themselves at university.
Issy O’Riordan
To make the hall experience inclusive I would encourage the mixing of blocks within the
hall as this would allow opportunities for people to meet when they otherwise may not
have. This could be done through socials and organised activities that aim to unite
everyone as a hall rather than separate blocks. I would also make sure that there is a
variety of events that cater to different interests throughout the year so that everyone
feels that they can get involved on some level. To make sure that everyone feels
included I would also advocate lots of communication within the hall with the JCR
committee acting as the main vocal point of this so that everyone is always aware of
everything that is happening around them and how they can get involved.
I think that I should be elected as welfare rep because I have had experience of being in
a position of care where confidentiality was very important which I believe would also be
an essential part of the position within the hall. I would feel comfortable acting as a
point of contact for anyone who needs support from the university and I would make
sure that my peers feel that they can approach the committee easily with any issue or
question. As an enthusiastic and confident person I would also enjoy supporting the
future socials and helping to make the events as entertaining as possible by providing
new ideas and working alongside the rest of the committee as a team.
Abbey Clarence
To encourage intra-Hall engagement, I would like to see some sort of competition
between individual dorms. This could involve a sports day featuring novelty “egg-and-
spoon” type events run in a similar way to the inter-mural sports days, or a year-round
points based system with incentives for the winning block at the end of the academic
year. Ideally there would be a variety of events that would allow the dorms to capitalise
on the individual strengths of its occupants. I think that this sort of friendly competition
between dorms would incite involvement within the Hall and promote inclusivity.
I have experience in organising, promoting and running group events from my time as a
House Captain and Prefect at Saint Peter’s Collegiate Girls School in Adelaide, South
Australia. I would like to use the skills and experience that I gained in that position to
engage with the Nottingham community, and ensure that all students are able to
participate in University culture and have a sense of inclusion. In particular, I would like
to ensure that any International Students, who may feel disconnected from their home
support network by the difficulties of long-distance travel and communication, have a
sense of belonging and support in their “home away from home”.
Environment & Social Justice Rep
Anna Parry
I would try to get as many people involved in environmental and social projects as
possible by making them simple and uncomplicated. I also believe emphasis should be
placed on informing people, who might not otherwise be aware of issues affecting those
both in the University and in wider society, about what they can do and the impact they
can have in making a difference.
I have previous experience as head girl last year in sixth form in coordinating tasks and
undertaking projects independently. As a confident individual I also find it easy to talk to
new people.

President
Emma Katherine Summerton
Over the years I have been involved in a number of activities which I believe have led me
to develop the necessary skills in order to fulfil the role of JCR president successfully. I
have also developed good communication skills through my involvement in Drama and
through my directing work I understand how to motivate and manage a team. I am an
extremely enthusiastic person who loves meeting new people and feel in order for
everyone to feel included this year a strong dependent leader is needed. Juggling school
work, a part-time job, volunteer work and many curricular activities over the years has
helped me develop the organisational skills needed to plan and promote both events
and socials in order to ensure this year’s Florence boot fresher’s have the best time
possible.
I am a good listener who will endeavour to make sure everyone’s opinions are heard as
well as an approachable person who is happy to help should you have any concerns or
issues relating to the halls or university life in general. Past sporting activities such as
netball and rounders have also helped develop my team working skills as well as allowed
me to understand and appreciate the role and goals of others. However, I am also
perfectly capable of working on my own and taking the lead in order to ensure all our
collective needs are met.
In conclusion, I am a responsible and reliable individual who would not be afraid to take
people’s ideas forward in order to ensure that we all have the most successful and
enjoyable first year here in Nottingham and that everyone’s voice is heard.
Richie Joseph
Everyone if not all in my hall are new to living in a communal environment. We all come
from diverse backgrounds and have different experiences. Most of us have read or heard
about university life, but the reality is totally different. In order to enhance the hall
experience, I would primarily ensure there is welcoming culture in the hall where
everyone is treated with respect and dignity and their opinions and
experiences are valued.
To achieve this, I would take the following actions:
• Undertake an inclusion review of the hall to find out what works and where things are
not that good.
• Decide where work is needed and create an action plan.
• Communicate the plan with everyone
• Put the plan into action with the participation of everyone
• Conduct monthly/quarterly review to monitor and evaluate the plan’s impact and use
this to update the plan and future action.
As a former head-boy at my previous college, I am confident that I have the leadership
quality to carry on this task. I am determined and motivated person and when I set my
mind on a goal, I will commit myself to achieving it. As Gandhi once said: “I suppose
leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people”. I
am a people person and I am very much at ease with people of any background and
ethnicity.
Vice President
Fil Sys
For me, it is very important that everyone is considered and included in Florence Boot
Hall (Flobo). As Vice President, I would be involved in many parts of Hall life and would
strive to create an inclusive experience where everyone has a great time. Additionally, I
would raise your ideas and questions at meetings and, when helping to organise social
events, I would make sure that there are a range of activities throughout the year. Not
everyone likes clubbing, and I would work closely with the Flobo Committee to ensure
that the activities reflect the diverse interests of the Hall. Lastly, I see it as vitally
important that everyone is respected for who they are at Flobo and I would encourage
more integration in order to create an even more inclusive environment for the students.
As Vice President, I would perform my role to the best of my ability. I am a friendly,
approachable guy who will try to help with any problems you have – be that borrowing
my ketchup or listening to your worries. I am extremely organised and will assist with the
running of events, ensuring that everyone has a year to remember at the best hall on
Campus! Having been on various councils and boards previously, I am also in a good
position to represent your ideas in meetings. Finally, I am fully aware of the Vice’s pivotal
function in maintaining ‘the printer’. I can assure you that ‘the printer' will be of no
obstacle in the smooth running of Flobo. Therefore, I should be elected as Vice because I
am friendly, helpful and organised, as well as being able to represent your ideas and
having an unrivalled mastery of ‘the printer’.
Helen Kuby
As Vice President, I would like to liaise with the rest of the residents in my halls to
highlight any issues with the JCR. Then I would listen to opinions as to how to make the
facility better. This way, the experience for residents will not only be inclusive, but
individual to this year group. In addition to this, I would like to work with the other JCR
members to create different activities, targeting the range of interests people have in this
hall so that no person is left out. As my role includes organising the yearbook, I would
ensure all key events are recorded through photographs so that people may reminisce
over their first year in Florence Boot Hall.
I have vast experience in organising and running events through being Head Girl of my
sixth form. Also in the role, I worked efficiently as part of a team to ensure that every
task was completed as best as possible. These qualities will allow me to fulfil the role of
Vice President to the highest of standards. As someone who enjoys nights in and out, I
am extremely sociable and friendly to everyone. Due to this, I would get involved with all
types of social activities to get to know you all better. The main reason I should be
elected, however, is that I am eager and enthusiastic to make our year in Florence Boot
the best year possible.
Treasurer
Turandee Munday
Make sure that the events that are sanctioned are varied and appropriate and make sure
that everyone has an opportunity to interact at various points during the year.
I study Economics and German so naturally finances and banking is something I'm
interested in and this will help me in the role.
Arbnor Beciri
Exclusive parties do not promote inclusivity- Promoting events which widely include
everyone would be a good place to start.
As a treasurer I'd make sure to hear the opinions of students, making sure the finances
are allocated efficiently.
I was a treasurer at my sixth form. At a school with serious lack of funding, I managed to
persuade the school to invest in instalments of more revision rooms, membership of the
economist and sports facilities. All in all this will benefit many students with years to
come. I can bring over the same level of influence into Florence Boot Hall. :)
Activities Rep
Stephanie Mervild
Socialising is very important to me and I love to meet new people and expand my circle.
I'm a big fan of going out and trying something new. My motto in life is to try
everything at least once. I would make the hall experience an inclusive one by trying my
best to arrange activities which suit people with all sorts of hobbies and interests. I
would encourage people to try new things and broaden their horizons! To include all
people I will make sure any activities or events are well publicised so that everyone is
aware of what’s going on and is able to take part. I am an approachable person and feel
people would be comfortable asking me about events and will be open to suggestions
or requests for activities that people would like organised.
I would like to be elected because I think I can help encourage people to try something
new and to get involved with the other people in Florence Boot. I’m always up for trying
something different and would love to share new experiences with my peers as I think
it’s a great way of bonding. I’m a very sociable person and enjoy meeting and getting to
know new people, and I think this will compliment being a social rep as I will try my best
to get others involved and interested.
Rhiannon Williams
To ensure that everyone in Florence Boot Hall has the best and most inclusive hall
experience possible, I'd take it upon myself to guarantee the organisation of events that
will suit everyone's interests. Involvement is a very important part of anybody's university
experience, so as a member of the JCR committee I'd make it my responsibility to get to
know the halls and encourage social events for everyone.
The past few weeks have consisted of people staying in their rooms/halls before a night
out/event, so I'd try to ensure that the JCR will be used to it's full potential and have
everyone gather there. It would lessen the cliques that people seem to see existing, and
make the halls itself a much more social and friendly place.
I find myself managing to get along with all types of people and would like to think I'm
easy to approach. I think these qualities would be important as an Activities Rep as
people would feel confident enough to discuss different event/social ideas with me, and
I'd be more than willing to arrange something different for everyone.
In the short amount of time we've been here at Florence Boot, I've found that I can
speak comfortably to everyone I've come across and am not afraid to share my opinions
with a board of people.
As an activities rep, it would obviously help with knowing which social events are worth
going to and when - in the last 3 weeks I've been to a fair share of different socials and
am confident that soon enough I'll know what would be best to arrange.
Marisa Muramatsu
In order to create the most inclusive experience in halls, we must first look to create a
comfortable environment where people can feel at home with the setting and company
that hall life brings. I believe that to feel comfortable, you should be enjoying yourself
and since your hall is effectively your family for a year, social activities organised within
halls is the best way to do so. As activities rep, I would want to create a friendly, lively
atmosphere which caters to all definitions of the word ‘fun’. Whether it be a cute game
of chess curled up in a blanket or a crazy club night full of glitter and UV paint, halls
should be a place outside of work to just be yourself with like-minded people that you
love or come to love (if not yet!).
As activities rep I would seek to organise, negotiate and create opportunities for
everyone to have those great nights, both out and in, because let’s face it, some of the
best nights you’ll have in halls will be just hanging out chatting in the corridor or the
kitchen or the JCR.
Your hall life us effectively your home life away from home so despite the fact that we
all may have essays to write, lab reports to hand in and obviously, degrees to get- lets
make the most of the time we have outside of working and create a social environment
that we actually enjoy living in! To quote my neighbour ‘You’re only a fresher once’ and I
want to make it a year worth your £9,000 in more ways than just your degree.
Tilley Stone
Of course it goes without saying that hand in hand with university life, (especially life at
Florence Boot) comes many many socials… from a night out just because we’re feeling
like it to the end of year balls. As Activities Rep I would ensure that these were both very
frequent and very good. But, in order to cater for everyone’s needs, I would also arrange
various alternative activities for the hall. These would include Ping-Pong competitions,
quiz nights, games nights, JCR gatherings to watch sports finals and the finals of XFactor, Bake Off and BGT (of course). Ensuring that everyone can be part of the activities
arranged by the JCR team and enjoys them would be my main aim, should I be voted as
the FloBo JCR Activities Rep.
I believe that this position requires someone who loves the social life of university, loves
the halls they live in, and is driven enough to be able to ensure that FloBo activities for
the next year are the best that they can be. I believe that I can offer all of the above! As
Activities Rep I will make it my mission to organise many memorable events to make
your time here this year the best that it can be. Fresher’s week was an amazing one, so
we may as well carry on as we started and show everyone that Florence Boot really is the
best hall on campus...
Sports Coordinator
Tom Anderson
There are a lot of keen sportsmen and women in Flobo and I'd like to help anyone who
wants to get involved in representing the Hall - we already have a few teams up and
running, and there's definitely scope for a few more, so if you want to start/join a team,
I'll try to make it happen.
I like my sports and I'd like everyone to get involved so we can take Flobo to the top.
Tom Goss
For me, sport is all about enjoyment. The ultimate point of participating in a team sport,
especially, at an IMS level is to have fun with your teammates. As sports coordinator, I
would promote this, as well as promoting the use of the hard-court area outside for
recreational use, as well as setting up a tennis, football and basketball round robin event.
The teams would be drawn at random which will allow people to meet new groups of
people. To increase inclusiveness, I would like to set up a Table Tennis, Pool and Table
football competition within the hall. This is an opportunity for people to interact with
new people they may not have met before as well as play sport as competitively as they
wish; as sport coordinator, I would organise this.
I think I have forged enough friendships with a wide range of people within the hall;
enabling me to be able to approach people if we are short of numbers in an IMS team,
for example. I am an outgoing person which suits this particular role well. But i also
believe I am approachable and considerate to others, which is another key characteristic
that I believe someone in this role should possess. I am committed and driven, so will
give my all in this role.
Emma Hodges
Aside from the obvious fixtures for hall members that love to play sport competitively; I
would like to introduce, or to develop structures already in place to allow mixed sports
to be played at an inter-halls level. Having played sport since I was able to, I believe it is
one of the most successful ways of integrating people of all abilities and genders and
creates a sense of unity within those people. Sports that are often overlooked in terms of
being played in the mixed form, and less well known sports provide a level playing field
and one which players can enjoy learning and experiencing in addition to providing a
hugely entertaining spectacle for those who would rather watch than participate. I would
aim to engage as many people as possible in events such as these, and really do feel
that the atmosphere they create is one that promotes an overall inclusive nature.
Whilst I would never claim to be, as the previous rep so eloquently put it, "athletic
perfection incarnate" - I have played sport at an international level and at the risk of
sounding a little too enthusiastic, I really do love sport in almost all of its aspects. Also
having spent last year working in a secondary school P.E department I think I have some
level of experience with the kind of organisation required and a generally okay
knowledge of all the more standard stuff! But equally I'm willing to learn and if I'm
elected and you've got a particularly obscure sport you'd like to see more of then you're
more than welcome to introduce me to it
Chrissy Courquin
Living in Florence Boot has made me realise how lucky we are to live in such a small hall;
everyone knows everyone. It's such a nice atmosphere and community to live in. To
make life here even more inclusive, I feel as though we should emphasise how united we
are inside our hall; we could do this through acts such as in-hall competitions and even
getting a mascot (which we could bring to all inter hall sports events).
I should be elected because I genuinely want to help make a difference to Florence Boot.
I have experience of organisation being head girl at my old school. However, even if I
had no experience it would not hold back my want to get involved in flo-bo life.
Welfare Rep (Male)
This position is currently vacant.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Kate Duffy
Florence Boot Hall made me feel extremely welcome when I walked through the doors
on the first day. By becoming welfare rep, I would try to recreate this atmosphere for the
Freshers next year. It is in my nature to ensure my friends and people surrounding me
are enjoying themselves and not struggling with changes in their life. If they are finding
it difficult to join in, then I try to be a listening ear whilst checking up on them regularly.
Since being part of Florence Boot, I have made some life-long memories with great
friends in just over 3 weeks. I am still trying to meet new people throughout the Hall,
which is a challenge because there are so many of us, but I believe that it will be a
benefit. Being elected Welfare Rep would allow me to not only meet more of the people
living in Florence Boot, but also ensure that the atmosphere is homely and happy so that
we become closer as a Hall.
Isabel Smithyman
As the Welfare Rep it is important to be an inclusive member of the Halls Committee. I
would make my self known to the students within halls, and make myself a reliable and
approachable for students that may need extra support via University Support, or just
need a chat. We can bring together the halls and a closer community where students
can feel confidence to ask for help when it is needed. It is important for student to have
confidence in the Welfare Rep to be open minded, considerate of privacy, and unbiased
in opinion in order to bring out the best outcome and I feel that I could bring this to the
role. Understanding the variety of situations students within the halls have, I would
confer with the other members of the halls committee to make sure events within the
halls cater to all students needs.
Having lived in halls last year at a different university, I understand how difficult halls life
can be, particularly when not everything is going right. I feel that I am a good listener,
and can advise student on a wide manor of issues. Having worked within the hospital
environment as a Healthcare Assistant I am confident in a variety of situations, including
supporting through mental health issues. I am also aware of the importance of discretion
and confidentiality. I think I am a very approachable person who is happy to support the
students in Florence Boot and be a point of contact.
Elizabeth McLeod
If I was elected as welfare rep, I would seek to create an environment where all students,
regardless of their backgrounds and interests could feel comfortable and at home.
I would seek to achieve this by offering a diverse range of activities to reflect the diverse
range of individuals; For example, I would ensure that both drinking and non-drinking
activities were offered throughout fresher’s week to ensure that non drinking students do
not become isolated, and would also seek to ensure that activities are diverse and
inclusive so that everyone no matter their background or level of ability would feel
comfortable taking part.
In addition, many universities lack activities for introverted people, or those with anxiety,
who may feel uncomfortable in large group settings. I would seek to address this by
ensuring that numerous smaller and quieter activities are offered in addition to large
group based events.
I believe that I would make a great welfare rep, because I genuinely care about the
happiness and welfare of others, and know first-hand how important it can be to see
and friendly face, and feel included in the activities and events happening in the hall.
University can be a daunting experience for many, yet even small things like knowing
that there is someone you can trust to go to with your problems or ask for advice can
make a huge difference. I benefitted hugely from the range of activities offered to me as
a non-drinker, and having that range of choices enabled me to become fully involved in
hall life, in a way that would not otherwise have been possible.
I am trustworthy, hardworking and a good listener, and I believe that I could do a lot to
help Florence Boot become like home to every student.
Lucy Cornwall
I would like to make the JCR a more popular place for people to spend their time in. In
doing this, faces would become more familiar and friendships would form. This would
create a more inclusive environment in halls because there would be a widespread
feeling of community. I would hold day and evening events in the JCR to encourage
people to spend their time together and hopefully this would become a regular
occurrence on a day to day basis.
I would like to be elected for Welfare Rep because I have always been interested and
concerned with things concerning personal matters. Whilst being happy and healthy
100% of the time is an unrealistic expectation, I would like to be able to provide a
support system so that people with problems can have people to help them. In addition
to this, I am also interested in discussing and making others aware of issues that can be
hard to talk about, including sexual health and drug use.
Environmental and Social Justice

I would do my best to ensure everyone in the hall felt just as at home at Florence Boot
as I have (it's my second year here so I must love it!) regardless of their background,
interests or anything else. I would treat everyone with respect and try to promote a
diverse and democratic environment where everybody has a voice and is treated fairly
whilst also treating the environment with respect so that it can hopefully be enjoyed by
many others in the future. I will make sure I am an approachable and active member of
the committee and take my role seriously whilst also enjoying it. I will do what I can to
take positive steps towards change, sustainability and equality.
I study Sociology and Social Policy so I am very passionate about social justice and
people being treated fairly regardless of who they are. I believe that we are very lucky to
be at such a beautiful university with a lot of history and a diverse community. We are at
one of the greenest universities in the world but we still have room for improvement. I
will do what I can to promote the campaigns of the university and also increase
awareness of wider social justice and environmental issues in a brief but informative and
interesting way as many of these issues can come across as long-winded and boring
which detracts from the importance of the issues.

I feel I would bring a lot to the table as JCR president. I consider myself to be an
outgoing and sociable person and would try my best to make sure that everyone would
feel included in all aspects of student life at Hugh Stuart. As a part of a team in the JCR I
would make sure that every member is listened to and respected and appropriate
delegation of tasks would be extremely important to make sure that life at Hugh Stuart
would run effectively and efficiently.
I have experience with leadership by being the president of my economics society in
school and I have a variety of interesting hobbies including scuba diving.
Freddie Luff
Hugh Stewart Hall is a hall that has such a wide array of students from both different
countries and also different counties and yet many people only know a handful of
people.
I will work to create Hugh Stewart events that ensure that all individuals continue to
meet more people and build an array of friends outside of those just in the rooms in
their block. I will also focus on integration between foreign students from Malaysia,
China and anywhere else in the world!
I will hold question and answer sessions each week for everyone to put opinions forward
on what the hall needs to improve on.
I will ensure that we make full use of the wonderful grounds that we are situated in and
during the summer, Slip and Slide, Giant Jenga and other outdoor games will be played,
ensuring that activities go on during those occasional warm days!
I am an approachable and outgoing person, who wants to make sure that all members
of Hugh Stewart enter second year looking back with only great memories and some
slightly fuzzy ones!
I will represent the views of the entirety of Hugh Stewart and ensure it is the tightly knit
family that it should be.
If you vote for me I will ensure that every time you sit down in the dining hall you know
the person to your left and right, and every time you walk through Latitude Bar you
know those in the group sitting in the booth, and should you ever walk into the Library
you know the people working, and hopefully if you do your washing (which I
recommend you do!) you can share a white load with that person you know just loading
their clothes into the machine.
Vote for me;

I'd run JCR parties, theme nights and get togethers. Ensure people are acquainted at
meal times. Aim to create a central hub where people can be comfortable in the JCR.
I strive to be an approachable and fun loving person. With this quality I hope people
would enjoy having me represent them.
Suky Singh
I would like to introduce the idea or inter-block socials such as movie nights or games
tournaments (pool/table tennis) so everyone can get to know each other. I would also
like to have an ongoing poll so people may suggest events that they would like any time
of the year and that way everyone has a chance to voice their opinion for something,
whether it's for non-drinkers or drinkers.
I would make sure we're able to get stash earlier so everyone can represent the hall
earlier and have something to take away from their first hall. Pre-formal mixers between
blocks I feel would be a valued addition so people can meet and possibly dine with new
people from around the hall at formals.
I would make sure you get the end of year ball that you want so that everyone has an
opinion; this can be anything from bumper cars to open bars and river cruises. I would
make sure that everyone's ideas are valued and at least included at some point this year.
This is my second year in Hugh Stu and I returned for the sole reason that it's the
greatest hall in campus and I want to help us show that off to every other hall this year!
I would like to build on the good year we had last year to make this one EPIC, with even
better socials at the favourite clubs (CRISIS/OCEANA/OCEAN) as well as ensuring the end
of year social goes out with a bang.
If I get elected, I would ensure I'm available and contactable to everyone so they can
contact me with anything they need advice on or help with, as an informal contact rather
than a tutor, especially if they feel they have no support from their resident tutor. I
would make sure the money is used correctly and helps students to be subsidised for
grand events such as socials and activities around summer and winter break.
Treasurer
William Hands
Personally, I think that a simple smile and getting to know as many people as possible
could make a huge difference to how included people feel and is something that we
could all do. More specifically as a member of the JCR committee I think that we should
encourage members of the Hugh Stewart family to take part in as many aspects of hall
life as possible. To do this I would hold events which are varied and open to people of
all different tastes, cultures and interests so that everyone feels like there is something
for them in Hugh Stewart and that there are like-minded people. This could further be
accomplished by competitions that could be held both within the hall and against other
halls. This would help people meet new people that they perhaps wouldn't normally have
encountered as well as have fun and add a competitive element!
I think I would be suited to a role in the JCR and more specifically as treasurer. This is
because I feel I have good leadership, listening and reasoning skills, as well as being a
strong economist, mathematician and negotiator. I therefore believe I can make the most
out of any budget we get in the JCR, so we can maximise the enjoyment and fun at
future JCR held events.
James Shapland
As hall Treasurer I would be able to put money into events to get as many people
involved as possible. This could include recreational sports events allow people who like
sports, but not necessarily the competitiveness of House or University competition, to
have a chance to get involved in some light hearted activities. We could also promote
more thoroughly events that could be held in the JCR such as movie nights, poker nights
or pub quizzes. We could also use money to subsidise alcohol in the JCR on specific big
nights out to bring people into the common area and drink as a collective, in order to
make it as sociable as possible. Another idea is to produce hall t-shirts or jumpers for
everyone to create a sense of team spirit and pride within the hall.
Not only am I quite an organised person who could balance my studying alongside the
added responsibility of working as Treasurer on the hall committee. I am also friendly,
approachable and open to ideas to those on the committee as well as others in the hall.
I have had experience in organizing events for large numbers as I was part of my schools
sixth form council, and spent time working on the Partner Voice council for my Waitrose
Branch discussing ways in which we as a collective could help improve our store and the
business as a whole. Therefore, I feel like it would be a natural transition into a similar
role for me. As well as this the role of Treasurer compliments my economics degree very
well.
Olivia Berks
Firstly, I think during fresher’s each welcome rep should be assigned a certain few blocks
that they look after and encourage to join in with the events. I think it would be a good
way of making sure that everyone in the block is meeting each other and being included
as the dedicated rep can ensure no one is left out. I believe that having your block
family is the first step to making sure that everybody is included in the hall. Furthermore
I think we could run events in the JCR beyond fresher’s. If there was something going on
more people would come down to the JCR and this would give the opportunity to mix
outside of your block. These don’t have to be big events, maybe a games night or a
movie night but just something to give people a reason to actually come down and use
the JCR as I feel at the moment it is only a few people that socialise in there.
I have organised large scale events before and therefore have had to juggle budgets. I
was lead committee member for our year 13 prom; I had to balance paying for the
venue, food, entertainment and keeping the biggest bar tab possible all while trying to
keep ticket prices as low as possible, as sixth formers hated parting with their money! I
have also successfully put on two charity fashion shows at my school. I am a super
organised person who has to complete whatever I do to the highest standards. Therefore
I will give 110% into this role and will not stop until everybody is happy. I know how to
make tough decisions when it comes to keeping to a budget and I think that is key in a
treasurer.
Activities Rep
Jamie Savage
I would encourage more people to socialise in the JCR, I have set up a table tennis
leader board to encourage different people to play against each other and mix groups. I
would like to host a Hu Stu take me out with people from different blocks to get the
whole hall included. We had a massive turn out for our after formal social and I do not
see any reason why the WHOLE hall should not go - transport should be included in the
cost of a ticket to make it convenient and accessible.
I am a very out going person who loves to get involved with anything and everything. I
am very organised and can see a project through, and can work very well in a team
having played a lot of sport. I have great communication skills and get on well with
fellow students and tutors. I have a great range of ideas for the hall and would like to be
involved as much as I can.
Jay Radia
Firstly, I’d make sure all the various social networking are used to full potential because
lets face it that’s where 95% of students get all their information on. Also after
experiencing fresher’s myself I realised that not everyone enjoys the same thing so I
would prioritise having a range of activities available not all including alcohol. Also,
during fresher’s, occasionally I was unaware of some events so again I would advertise
thoroughly.
I would consider myself to be very approachable and during fresher’s I took it upon
myself to take advantage of all of the activities available. Having done this, I was able to
meet a lot of new, friendly people and I would love to provide this opportunity to next
year’s fresher’s! My main aims will be to involve as many people as people in as many
activities as possible.
Ella Crosbie
As a Social Secretary, I would want to make everyone feel involved and included
(whether their drinking or not). I would love everyone to know everyone in Hugh
Steward, making it an even more sociable environment, meaning that all cliques would
mix so everyone feels comfortable. For example, every week, I would organise a 'Netflix n
Chill' evening in the JCR either mid-week or weekend, depending on how busy the week
is (strictly pyjamas only). This would mean that the people who don't like to drink would
also feel included. Another way to get everyone to know each other, whilst keeping costs
down, would be a games night. It would be a really fun way to bond with everyone over
a few games, drinks and maybe a cheap take away, getting everyone fully stuck in. This
would be ideal for a weekend, as they tend to be a lot quieter and would avoid
everyone hibernating in their rooms. I think for the first couple of weeks, it is important
to get everyone acquainted, as we are such a big Halls and there is just so many people
to meet still!
I think Social Secretary would be the perfect position for me, as I feel I am quite an
approachable person, meaning that hopefully people would feel comfortable talking to
me any issues or problems they might be having. I will try and make everyone feel as
comfortable as possible and make sure everyone is having a good time. I am a sociable
person and I enjoy going out, so I think I would be good at getting everyone up for a
night out. Lastly, I feel I am a very organised person so would enjoy planning events and
nights out for everyone to enjoy.
Sports Coordinator
Robert Smith
Sport is an amazing vehicle through which to bring people together of all abilities
focusing upon enjoyment, not victory and I feel that through various sporting events we
can encourage Hugh Stewart members to strengthen already close relationships or build
new ones by taking part in sport.
I have experience leading student bodies as head of my school but sport has always
been central to me. Since joining the university I have played for the 1st XV rugby but
before I have played county hockey cricket and swimming as well as football for Ipswich
town and this broad selection demonstrates how I can relate to almost all those in Hugh
Stewart who take an interest in sport.
Tom Bailey
Make sure that anyone who wanted to get involved in sport could easily get involved.
Whatever the standard or commitment level everyone should get an equal opportunity
to get involved and reap the benefits of sport.
I am very passionate about sport and have been my entire life. I am a qualified tennis
coach and have captained my local football team. These giving me experience as a
leader in sport. I also play 1st team sport at the uni being a member of the squash team.
Welfare Rep (Male)
Ben Thornhill
I would ensure that all students feel that they can approach the welfare committee,
regardless of the type of issue which they feel the need to discuss. I would make sure
that the hall activities, for example sport teams, are inclusive and that everyone has the
opportunity to take part. Having the chance to play for the hall sport teams or taking
part in hall events are a good way for people who are struggling with student life to take
their mind off their issues and get to know other people. This will help people feel
comfortable at university, therefore I will do my utmost to ensure that everyone has the
best opportunity to feel part of Hugh Stewart life.
I am an approachable person who wants to ensure that everyone feels a part of Hugh
Stewart hall. I am more than willing to listen to anyone's issues and offer advice for any
issue whatsoever, you can talk to me in confidence that I will try my best to resolve your
issue and keep it confidential.
I'm more than willing to talk to anyone about anything, from football to problems with
your subject, but dealing with anyone chundering after a night out is completely out of
bounds.
Give me a vote,
Ben
Samuel Richards
I am easy going, approachable and usually have a smile on my face so people are happy
to talk to me. I have tried to make myself known amongst my peers and made an effort
to make friends with as many people as possible. Therefore as Welfare Rep if people had
problems, I think they would be comfortable coming to me.
I want everyone to have a good time and enjoy Hugh Stewart as much as I do.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Helena Moore
As a welfare rep I would make sure that everyone feels happy and that they belong at
Hu-Stu. I will do this by ensuring that there are a wide variety of socials on offer for
everyone to get to know each other better. I will be your voice, making your opinions
heard, representing you in committee meetings and so I will make it my role to find out
more about you and your needs. I will ensure that there are equal opportunities and a
support network in place so that everybody feels valued and safe.
I am an approachable person who enjoys mixing with people from all walks of life. I was
previously a Sixth form mentor, offering guidance and support for groups of students
and so I have experience in this field. I will be available any time for anyone who wants
to share opinions or concerns and I promise to push your ideas forward so that together
we can accomplish great things. I have experience as an event planner too and so would
enjoy helping to organise socials to involve everyone, of all interests. I will keep you up
to date about services, societies and events available to benefit you to ensure you get
the best university experience.
Sarah Pinnington
As a welfare rep, I want everyone to feel at home and see halls as a second home
instead of just accommodation. I would really like to see more events taking place that
would ensure that everyone could feel more welcome into the hall. Being a second year
back in halls I have a greater understanding of hall life and I can use this to make the
environment a much better one.
I think that I am a very approachable person that is very easy to talk to. I am happy to
make time for anyone who feels like they need to get something off their mind or just
wants a chat. I'm also happy for my role to extend the welfare one and get involved with
all aspects of the JCR. As part of the JCR I would like to hear ideas from anyone and
then pass it on so everyone can have a say.
Elinor Tiddy
As a welfare representative I would ensure that anyone who had a concern or a worry
would feel comfortable to talk to me! It’s important to provide a comfortable and
relatively informal setting to provide peer support, and in doing so encouraging anybody
and everybody to feel comfortable to ask me for support. From personal experience I
know that there is no such thing as a problem too small - moving to university can be
an extremely overwhelming and stressful time for some people, and as a result even the
smallest of worries can be heightened and become extremely stressful and distressing. In
regards to welfare, inclusivity is of the upmost importance and therefore would be my
prime focus as the female welfare representative.
As a member of the JCR i believe it’s important to be confident in speaking publicly and
also the confidence to put forward your own ideas whilst also showing consideration and
sharing the ideas of others. As deputy head girl and president of the peer mentoring
scheme at my sixth form I have experience in all of these areas and also by being a part
of a debate and mock trial team I have become more confident in being able to speak
publicly.
Grace Redmayne
I would try to help any students that come to me with problems, and try to make them
feel comfortable enough to confide in me.
I feel I am an easy person to talk to, and am approachable.

President
Marie Stehlikova
In essence, to make the hall experience an inclusive one I would like to put on a variety
of events. This could be anything from the classic club scene in our favourite clubs (with
late buses of course!), to a more intimate setting like the pizza movie night in the JCR. I
would definitely also bring back some events from last year such as the acoustic music
evening, trip to Alton Towers, paintballing and more. As for new events, I would also
look into a trip to Kitty Cafe. Finally, I would also like to reinstate the JCR suggestion box
to give everyone in the hall a voice.
As a second year international student, I have seen what the JCR can do and aim to go
above and beyond to not only meet those standards, but exceed them. I am very
approachable and friendly and in terms of the evident leadership role the president has, I
do have experience pertaining to that front also. In my gap year I became the manager
of a hotel, restaurant and buffet. By the end of my gap year I took on role of the
Managing Director of the entire company running those facilities. I have maintained that
position to this day and therefore know what is required of someone who stands in the
lead. Meetings, paperwork and communication are all things I know I am able to
manage. Therefore, I believe that the role as president in Lenton & Wortley Hall would
be a great fit for me and it would further enable me to develop as a leader.
Vice President
Lewis Harris
As an outgoing person, I feel that I would be able to bring the students of Lenton and
Wortley together and make sure everyone has a fun, positive first year at Nottingham
University. I have always had a warm charisma, and been able to socialise with everyone
as a whole, therefore applying for these roles would only allow me to offer more to the
student community. I would try my very hardest as I do in all areas of my life to make
sure every student is equally happy with their experience at University and if they have
any problems, resolve them to the best of my ability. I look forward to organising events
and socials in a way that is unique and fun for everyone, as well as working closely
together with my fellow JCR committee.
In my time at school and sixth form, I worked positively alongside my peers, making sure
I pushed everyone to reach their potentials. I feel this is a vital aspect of a good leader,
therefore I would suit the role as President/ Vice-President. I have always been willing to
help others and lead people along the right pathway so that they may make the most of
their time in study. When I’m not studying, Ill be getting everyone involved in socialising
and having fun, and ensuring that my peers are enjoying the most of life.
Treasurer
Angelo Perera
I will try my best to ensure that hall funds will be put into the best possible use,
especially on events and activities which reflect the collective view of the hall. I will
attempt to make the most efficient use of the funds to benefit the students of Lenton &
Wortely.
I am an economics student and intend to acquire a great deal of knowledge on finance
and budget management which would be imperative for the role of treasurer.
Natasha Qayyum
I have always been the type of person to branch out into different communities. I have
never felt uncomfortable making new friends or asking for help, and like keep an open
mind. For this reason I would love to be involved in the organisation and care taking of
the hall - to help make it the best place to live whilst at university for everybody! This
would be done by taking as many people's opinions into account as possible. For
example sending out a questionnaire, as opposed to asking people to directly email the
JCR. Methods like this would gain more involvement.
It's important to offer equal opportunities to everybody, because it can be the quiet
individuals who surprise you most with their involvement in hall activities.
I believe having a diverse team will result in lively and original outcomes.
I love circulating money, so the role of treasurer is perfect. Having experiences ranging
from dealing virtual cash on Neopets and Runescape as a kid, to earning thousands of
pounds through my collectables business.... (Recent sales including £120 for a doll, £200
for a single Yu-Gi-Oh TCG card!). I have learnt through these experiences to assess risk
and make sensible decisions.
I have also got experience organising similar scale events to those that will be planned
this year - having handled cash and contacts when organising my school prom and other
leavers' events as Head Girl.
Mustafa Karimji
I will set up an email address at which students at lenton and wortley can contact the
treasurer to get their views across about how what they would like to see be done with
the funding. I will aim to provide funding for events which bring our hall together, such
as formals, which will allow people to mix in more with people from other blocks and
make a more unified and inclusive lenton and wortley. I would also fund more sporting
activities to get more people involved and create a better hall spirit, while considering
recreational activities off campus which would be a fun way to socialise. These ideas
however will require a committed individual who can track finances and funding- skills
which I believe I possess.
i am an organise individual who is part of many societies and a sports team. I am also a
friendly individual who is always approachable snd has the time to speak with people
about almost anything. I believe these attributes are necessary for a treasurer. Moreover,
I have good skills with Maths and believe this is a necessity for someone hoping to be a
treasurer, while they may also need to dedicated and manage their time well to ensure
they are bettering both their halls and themselves. Moreover, I greatly enjoy being in
Lenton and Wortley halls and would love to be a part of the JCR committee so I can give
back and get more involved within the great student union of Nottingham University.
Activities Rep
Ella Hiscocks
I believe that events and socials are the best way to connect with your peers in the hall,
and therefore I would make sure to organise many unique and fun ones throughout the
year! Inspiring people to work together and be creative for costume socials as well as
creating a real hall atmosphere at the formals gives everyone the opportunity to connect
and bond as a group. As well as this, creating a wide range of events is so important too
as everyone has different interests and expectations of a social event whether that be to
have a good drink and dance or just stay in and watch a film with friends. Therefore, I
would focus on making the memorable and fun hall experience accessible to every single
person so that we could all consider ourselves a Lenton and Wortley member and lover!
I have a passion for event planning and actually hope on pursuing it as a career so any
experience I can get of understanding the funding or organising is vital for me. As well
as this, I was on the prom committee at my secondary school and enjoyed creating the
perfect final celebration for all of my Year 13 class and so would find it so rewarding
creating an amazing experience for everyone here. Since I have arrived at Nottingham I
have constantly tried to connect with people not only in my block but all over the hall,
so to be able to do that as a JCR representative would be an incredible opportunity!
Mack Muneeb Alam
I never like anyone feeling left out so I would do my best to make everyone feel at
home and a part of everything that is going on. I'd persuade everyone to come to hall
nights out (but obviously not force people to...) so as to allow the group to bond and
spend time together. If anyone were to feel excluded I hope that they would feel
comfortable chatting to me, or someone else on the JCR.
I'm a chatty and bubbly person and love being a part of committees such as this. I have
previously chaired my school and (heavily involved with the SU as committee member
for prizes during my foundation year and awards as well as Indoor cricket society) and
think I have played a positive role in making fair decisions as a part of these. I have
loved my hall so far and really want to be more involved with everything to do with it!
Georgia Hakham
In order to make the hall experience an inclusive one, there will be events put on that
suit everyone's interests. For example, movie nights for those that are not interested in
clubbing. In order for the blocks to mix, we could have inter-block competitions
spanning from sports to pub quizzes.
I should be elected as I am very interested in getting to know everyone, I am a friendly
person and I love meeting new people. Being activities rep would give me the
opportunity to organise events, mix with new people and ensure that everyone has a
good time.
Ben Crossfield
I believe that there should be an easier way to meet other students studying on the
same course as you who also live within these halls. Perhaps a sign up sheet or even a
Facebook page where you are able to add yourself to your respective course and ask
any questions you may have regarding this. After all it is far less daunting to
communicate with a familiar face who is situated nearby! Another idea would be to
organise Lenton and Wortley outings on the weekends. Even if it is just visiting the town
and going out for a meal. However if there is enough support I believe organising larger
trips to, for example, theme parks and theatre trips would be a fantastic way to meet
new people within the halls as well as bringing existing friendships out of familiar
territory thus strengthening this.
My previous experience as Head of House at my secondary school and my position as
captain of the school's football first team shows that I am approachable and trustworthy
in charge of large groups of the student body. I also have performed in various theatre
productions as well as studying A-level drama, therefore I feel comfortable speaking in
front of large groups of people. An attribute which I feel is important in whatever
potential role as you will need to be able and confident when articulating a particular
issue or suggestion to whoever the audience may be.
Sports Coordinator
Benedict Greenwood
I will make sure everyone is aware of sporting event details well in advance and not just
the day before or the same day. I will make sure information is available in lots of ways
not just on Facebook. I am dynamic, easy going and approachable and I'll make sure
there's sport for everyone!
I'm block 2 room 1, feel free to drop by anytime and say hi! I have bottomless pot of tea
and a tin full of biscuits that aren't going to eat themselves! (But the Garibaldis and the
Bourbons do have a fight every now and then).
Finley Old
From what I have seen so far, the two biggest issues with IMS are either finding enough
people for a team or deciding who plays when there are too many.
As a very active and competitive person who loves to play any sport I can get my hands
on I aim to fairly but firmly fix these issues so that the hall sports runs smoothly and
everyone knows who is playing and where.
Being social and including everyone is important to me, I plan on trying to set up events
for the entire hall to join in with to aid with building a community spirit and to better
every ones halls/uni experience
I feel that I should be elected because I want to be involved in ensuring people have a
great time during their stay in Nottingham halls. I fully realise how amazing being part of
a successful and well run team is having been warmly welcomed by Nottingham
basketball as well as previous club/school teams and I want to provide the opportunities
for everyone to be a part of a social, active and competitive community. I want to make
the most of the time I have here at Lenton and Wortley and I have a lot to offer the
halls, I aim to help make Lenton and Wortley the best it can be.
Harry Grant
I would like to make it known that sport is for anyone; people shouldn't be scared about
playing sports they've never tried before, but also people who are more experienced
should help those who are less experienced. Sport is a great way to socialise and make
new friends, and is a great thing to do in your free time. The more people we get
involved, the closer knit our community here at Lenton and Wortley will be.
Halls sport is about fun and enjoyment, but gives people a chance to represent a team
they care about, no matter what standard they play at. Team spirit is a great thing, and
playing for Lenton and Wortley, at whatever sport, should be a great experience.
I have played sport all my life, and love being part of team. I am captain of the IMS
hockey team this year, so understand the responsibilities of organising a team, and
looking after equipment.
I have only been at Lenton and Wortley for 3 weeks, but already understand that this is
a great hall. I was head boy at my school, so understand what a team spirit feels like,
and we definitely have it at Lenton and Wortley. I would love to get as many people to
enjoy playing sport as possible, and to embrace the team spirit held within the
community that is Lenton and Wortley hall.
Welfare Rep (Male)

Welfare Rep (Female)
Megan Williams
I would ensure that there are a multitude of activities/groups set up for the students.
Not just nights out but getting people involved in the IMS, setting up pub quiz's, making
sure it's inclusive for different religious groups by letting them know about respective
societies. I would also make sure all students are aware of their student networks in case
they have issues.
I'm a very motivated person with great organisation skills. I'm really friendly and care
about people's wellbeing. I love organising events and meeting new people.
Rachel Bright
If elected i would work in tandem with the activities reps within my hall to make sure
there was something for everyone in terms of events, from hall nights out to quizzes in
the JCR – no one should feel alienated from their hall simply because they do not enjoy
going out. As welfare rep I would implement an open door policy so that anyone could
approach me with any issue they were having at any time, and i would sit down with
them and if I couldn’t resolve the issue myself I would be sure to pass it on to the SCR.
Finally, although the first year at university is filled with excitement, there are many
within halls who may be finding it difficult, and I would make it my priority to get them
involved with all hall activities so that they felt included and more at home within halls.
I believe I would make a fantastic welfare rep as it is of paramount importance to me
that everyone gets as much as they can out of their first year at university, and feeling
happy in where you live is such a huge part of that. As a law parent and a peer mentor I
am someone who has experience with helping other students, and I have found all roles
I have undertaken of that nature to be immensely rewarding. I consider myself an
empathetic and approachable person, so I would like to think that students within my
halls would feel comfortable coming to me with any problems they were having or
suggestions they might have on how the hall experience could be made even better. I
would ensure that this was known around the hall so that no one was ever at a loss for
where to go with a problem.

President
Pamela Tickell
Whilst I have plenty of silly ideas to make Lincoln Hall the best it can be ('Bring your pet
to halls' day, inter- block sports etc), my opinion is NOT the one that counts, YOURS is. I
pride myself on being a good listener. I would be able to convey our student wishes
fluently and persuasively (i.e not in the form of interpretive dance... unless that's what is
needed... in which case LET'S CHA CHA). So we can ALL make our hall experience an
inclusive one.
I'm a very approachable person, with a listening ear always available which would be
very useful for our tutors because any grievances or praise will go directly to the right
person, so that change can begin.
Having spent the Summer volunteering in a primary school and being an avid member
of the theatre and performing arts community, I have developed great communication
skills which will help me act as a superb liaison between student and hall.
Finally, I will NOT be rubbish and forget my roles and responsibilities half- way through
the year. I assure you, I will be present through our whole stay in Lincoln, continuing to
make the halls a better place.
George William Grant
I would try and make the hall experience as inclusive as possible by taking the following
steps of actions
1. Ensuring that each occupant of the hall has found at least one person they can call a
friend. To do this I would make sure that the hall committee would plan various social
events that would suit a number of different interests. For example, formal dinners,
board game socials, nights out, sports events etc.
2. I would try my very best to make sure that the needs and interests of each occupant
is addressed in committee meetings and that any issue is dealt with that concerns the
welfare of any student.
3. I would ensure that there is a healthy level of communication between hall staff, reps,
tutors and students so that no one in the hall community feels isolated.
I would like to manage and ensure that there will be a real sense of community in
Lincoln. A community that is based upon compassion, mutual respect and above all else
the desire to achieve and enrich our lives.
George Waring
Primarily this would be achieved through the organisation of socials and events for the
halls, that are tailored for the involvement of all, whether that be planned nights out, or
casual events such as pizza nights, sports events or even some music groups? As
President, I would also seek to push for the creation of a new position on the JCR team,
responsible for aiding student integration, with especial focus on International students,
who in some cases can find it difficult to fully integrate into the wider hall community.
This new role could organise additional socials with International integration at heart,
helping to bring the whole community together, thus helping to maximise the
'Nottingham' experience for all.
I feel I would be an ideal choice for President, as I have lots of past experience in public
speaking and presentation and feel I could very credibly represent the interests of
Lincoln Hall to the wider University, whilst also addressing the demands of the
community, with a fair and open mind. Should I be elected, a core mission would be to
ensure that the Lincoln Hall bar is kept regularly open, rather than being nearly always
closed; its a great facility which currently is being wasted. At the very least I would work
to ensure that the bar is open on weekends, with the area having potential to be
another great social space, aiding social inclusivity aims, going 'toe to toe' with Lenton
and Derby. Additionally, I would work to make the JCR a more popular place for
students to socialise and would get new cues for the pool table.
Rui Almeida
With me at the helm I’d want the JCR open and inviting – I want people to chat to us at
dinner or drop us a text, telling us what they’d like to see happening.
Then I think Facebook polls are a great tool I’d like to implement to help decide where
we focus our efforts. Don’t fret I won’t bombard you with constant questions, perhaps
just the odd ‘choose which of the suggested events we run this time’. You whip out your
phones, tick one, and we jump on it.
Hall club nights are sweet, and they’re going to get sorted no question; but if I’ve got
support I’d love to liaise with the rest of the reps and get a bouncy castle in the quad, or
a pop-up cinema or a cocktail party.
Vote for me because I want to get stuff happening for all of us.
Does anyone else have the ‘n’ missing from ‘Lincoln’ on their Useful Information sheet
on their pinboard? I do, and it bothers me.
As a President I’d want to put stuff on like club nights and formals but I’d also like to be
there to help fix problems. Big or small I think if we can make anything better we should,
that’s what I’d like to do.
Frankly I think 150 words is far too little for me to talk about everything I’d like to. And I
think it’d be cheating to drop a link in to a google docs with my full rant. Instead please
come and talk to me – if I can pluck it up I’ll be bothering you about this in mealtimes,
or I’m in H9 and you can come knocking and I’ll have sweets. Otherwise, thanks for
reading, be well.
Vice President
Luke de Beneducci
If I was elected, to make the hall experience an inclusive one, I would aim to use my
time to help anyone in the hall with any problems they have. I would also aim to help
any of my fellow JCR members planning for functions, especially those that would
include all other members of the hall, and make sure that everybody in the hall had a
good chance to socialise and get to know each other. I would also aim to open up our
decision making process; for formals, hall events and hall life to the members of the hall
to enable them to help make the hall a better place for everyone living there. This would
enable everyone in the hall to have a voice for the hall and its future over the course of
the year.
I feel that I should be elected because I would dedicate a large quantity of my spare
time, and a lot of myself to this position. For the betterment of the hall and its students.
I would really like to enable change and help out with the direction the hall would be
taking this year, as a bridge between students and the staff as well as helping all other
committee members with their tasks of making the hall a better and more interesting
place to live, I also feel that a role on the committee would help me develop as a person
and round out my university experience.
Sainath Sivakumar
As part of the JCR committee I will work alongside the other members to enrich the hall
atmosphere and ensure that no one is left out, therefore if nights out aren't your cup of
tea, alternative events will be organised. Hall life is supposed to be enjoyable and as
your vice president I will try my best to achieve that for everyone. I'd also want to
mention that being vice president means I'm here to help you and cater to your needs
whatever that may be.
This is my second year in halls as I did foundation year last year. Being in halls last year
taught me a lot, so as vice president I feel like I'd know exactly what to expect which
would make me a valued team member within the JCR. Being part of a team in different
situations has always come natural to me, I've worked for a charity for numerous years,
in a small team to teach disabled children how to read, write and use the computer. Also
I've had a number of roles of responsibility within this charity and I feel like I have the
skills required for this role.
Hilary Thong
I would involve all the residents in Albion and regularly talk to them, in person and
through social media, to make sure their experience at Albion is a fulfilling one.
I am very responsible and organised which makes me very apt for this position. Also I
am a good communicator and can work well with others.
Treasurer
Sam Dail
Ensure every Lincoln resident has a say in how the money is split up.
We'd try and get a new TV so we can actually watch programmes without hassle
The socials would be the best on campus.
Jessica Watt
I love our hall spirit and would definitely try to make sure that we could organise as
many different events as possible, from socials to sports to bake offs! I know that people
have a lot of different interests and I would cater to as many ideas that I could that are
brought forward to the committee. I already have a lot of good ideas that I'm excited to
put forward, if elected, and would love the opportunity to represent Lincoln Hall as
treasurer.
I should be elected because this summer I worked as an assistant manager at a
restaurant in the Isles of Scilly, so I know that I work well on a team and get the job
done. I know that if elected I will be a good treasurer, because at the restaurant I was in
charge of counting the money every morning and evening and calculating the total from
both the card machine and tills so I'm very used and comfortable to work with money.
As treasurer, I would make sure to fairly assign money to as many different types of
events as possible, in order to cater to everyone's interests. I would also love to look into
the possibility of fundraising as a hall to give us the opportunity to organise even bigger
and better events!
Ollie Swann
It essential everyone in Lincoln Hall has the opportunity to get trollied in as many
imaginative ways as possible as and when they want to. I've loved everyone I have met
at Lincoln and because of this I have every reason to get everyone of you lovely people
involved.
I'm good with money - make me treasurer and I'll make sure our budget lasts us the
whole year so we can finish on a high.
Activities Rep
Miranda Lopez
I am great at motivating people and working in a team (of both small and large
numbers). Both in secondary school and at college I was part of the student union and
enjoyed organising events. I am therefore good at working with budgets and making
sure deadlines are met, as being organised as a huge part of it also. I have done a lot of
marketing and advertising work experience, (which is what I hope to go into after
university) and I know how to encourage participation and get people motivated when
organising events.
I am currently an Antics Rep for Oceana on a Monday night and I will be doing it for the
whole of this year and hopefully next year too. I am used to working with numbers of
people in a team, most of whom I have never met but have got to know and work with
effectively to sell as many tickets as possible. Socialising and meeting new people has
been great so far and as well as the social side of it, I am enjoying improving my
teamwork and organisational skills. I hold an influential responsibility as I need to sell all
the tickets and also work with money and budgets weekly which has been very good
practice. I would love to be able to use all these skills and organise events for Lincoln.
Ozan Khan
Everyone tends to hang out with whoever is in their block, so definitely try and have a
few social events. Multiple pizza socials or maybe a few sports teams within Lincoln to
play on the downs. Maybe a bouncy castle on the quad? Just something to get everyone
to get to know each other i guess.
Definitely up for a challenge, seems like it would be a lot of fun trying to organize
events for the hall and the like. I'd try my best so everyone at Lincoln and at other halls
have a really great year.
Sports Coordinator
Sam Renshaw
There are sports teams available for males/females. However even if you are not selected
for a sport team within the university, that does not mean you will be inactive for the
academic year. I will arrange sports events on the downs or book the 3G pitch for
games. Also there will be many social events for the sports teams, with the plan of a Fifa
tournament in the JCR.
I currently am the captain of some of the IMS sports teams, although the season has
started with mixed results... I'm hopeful that Lincoln hall will have a good sporting year.
Welfare Rep (Male)
Marius Pezard-Snell
I would be make sure everyone has the opportunity to speak about their concerns,
expectations and life in the hall, taking in to account and acting upon any potential
problems to the best of my ability.
I hope that I could be a friendly face for people who are struggling with hall life, and
that I would be able to help them, or at least direct them to the best source of help.
Israel Bucko
I will seek to create a greater community atmosphere, where everybody feels part the
squadron. I wish to support you, people of Lincoln Hall. From the E-Block-doorstepposse, to the international crew; from the party animals, to the mandem who just like
those chill vibes with nothing too crazy – I want to support you. Some of my ideas
include drop-in sessions, where if anybody is struggling with anything they can come
and receive a warm support network and advice, events for those who don’t like
clubbing, such as movie nights in the JCR, acoustic music sessions in the bar,
international nights, and pub quizzes; and perhaps most of all, vocalise your thoughts on
hall dinners. Vote for me to support you.
As welfare rep, I will seek to make you feel like you belong to the community, the squad,
that is Lincoln Hall. I wish to make the feeling of loneliness a thing of the past, to create
a comfortable, safe atmosphere to find advice and help if you need it, to play a part in
making your time at university the best it can possibly be. I understand that some may
have had difficulty in getting involved, however, I would make it my aim to bridge the
divide and make you feel part of the family. For those who are already enjoying
university life, I will seek to be there to make it even better. Lincoln Hall represent.
Tom Clark
Working with residents and Hall staff to maintain and improve the student experience at
Lincoln would be my priority. I’d like to make the experience inclusive by introducing
new events in conjunction with life at Lincoln hall. For example, themed/fancy dress
dinners, perhaps a Halloween themed dinner, Film nights in Lincoln Hall or the JCR
organised alongside the social representatives. I’d also want to make myself a point of
contact for anyone with any queries at Lincoln in order to ensure that anyone
experiencing problems, can express their views confidentially.
I’d like to give other students the opportunity to express queries, concerns and feedback
about life on Hall, and as an approachable and friendly resident, I feel I’d be able to give
them that opportunity, were I to be elected as Welfare representative.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Lucy Miles
I am sociable and friendly, and I like to believe that I can talk to people easily. I would
help people integrate with others in the hall by getting to know people to make sure
they are happy, and trying to help if they are not. I would also try and ensure that
everyone in the hall participates in events throughout the year, and that they have
someone to be around at this time through trying to coordinate seating arrangements,
teams etc to make sure that no one is left alone.
If I see someone unhappy, I would try and talk to them to see if I could help in any way,
or recommend someone else for them to talk to about their situation if that would make
them more comfortable.
I am a very empathetic person, and I love helping others due to my compassion. I
strongly believe in the value of discretion when someone comes to me with a problem. I
am approachable and friendly, which I hope will help others feel comfortable with me,
creating a warm and reassuring atmosphere for them if they come to me as the first
point of call with a problem.
I am sociable and enjoy going out, so I can get to know others that way, but I am also
around the hall for a lot of the day and am very open to meeting new people. I hope
that my natural friendliness would encourage people to talk to me if they need to.
Tayla Pedro
As a welfare rep I would do my best to ensure that hall life is a positive experience for
everyone by taking action on welfare issues and promoting student well-being. I hope to
do this by improving signposting and accessibility to all the services available to
students, using platforms such as social media, and additionally increasing the number of
networks available.
I would also work closely with the JCR to help campaign on issues close to students’
hearts and increase initiatives within our hall. I will listen and gather feedback on current
services to ensure everyone’s views are acknowledged and listened to, so support
available is best it can be.
I hope to be an approachable person that anyone in the hall can come to and know they
will be treated without discrimination, with a listening ear and receive appropriate
support.
I have had lot of experience in roles of responsibility, therefore I feel I have acquired the
necessary skills to take on this important role within our hall. For the past two summers
and the previous winter I have been a leader on residential camps for children ages 8-15
with my youth movement. Through this I have learnt and improved many transferable
skills such as time management, problem solving, presentation skills, which I feel will be
useful in this role. I have also had training in how to cope with welfare issues, which I
experienced and dealt with many times when leading camp. Having had these
experiences, I feel I will approach the role in a mature and sensitive manner.
Grace Petty
To make the hall inclusive one I would try to host a range of events - day and night - so
that everyone has the chance to be included if they don't particularly enjoy going out at
night. This would be a good way to get everyone talking and for people to mix and
meet different people in blocks who, otherwise they may not have met.
I believe I should be elected because I feel like I have made an effort to get to know as
many people throughout Lincoln as possible, so if and when people have any issues with
things such as the food or any personal problems, I feel that I am an easily approachable
person who is also easy to talk to.
Ruby Kellard
I'm great at organising events and keeping them light hearted. I'm always a friendly face
and tend to find ways to bring everyone together that we all enjoy! My interests span
broadly, I'm interested in art (illustration), sport (football etc), reading, languages etc. so I
feel I could relate to a lot of different people! Thinking of new and interesting events is
something I'd love to have a go at.
I've done lots of work with young people, mentoring them through school and
organising days out and activities for disabled teenagers and less advantaged youth from
my community. I love being with people and I'm always willing to go further to help
someone out!

Being a postgrad hall, many of the residents are only here for one year undertaking a
masters course and by the end of the year we would, hopefully, not only have earned a
degree but also made a lot of memories and life-long friends. Once I am elected
president, I will make sure to arrange as many events, outings and social gatherings as
possible in hopes that it brings us all closer together and enjoy the cultural diversity the
hall and the university have to offer (Eg: Celebrating Christmas, Diwali, the Chinese New
Year and others that cater the various cultures in our hall)
I work well in teams and I take everybody's opinions seriously and always try to help
people with whatever problems they face. I'm open to new ideas from everyone so share
your ideas and I will try my best to execute them.
Vice President
Archit Gupta
My primary duty would be to assist the president and take decisions which will always be
in favour of the residents. I will do everything in my power to make Melton hall a better
place to live in, not that it needs it but I think there is always some scope of
improvement.
I am well aware of the duties that I’ll have to do if I become the Vice President of
Melton hall.
I'd use my power to connect with people and find out things. I will gather information,
ask questions and solve the problems as soon as possible.
I should be elected because I know that I can work efficiently together in a group and
do my best to communicate with the committee. I would never over promise and not
deliver, I believe in under promise and over deliver.

I'd like to make this year at Melton hall a memorable one; filled with many memories
that will last forever. By the end of the academic year I will make sure that all the
residents at Melton know each other. I plan on hosting a variety of activities; some of
which are: Indoor tournaments (table tennis, pool, chess), night outs & parties (bar
crawls, clubbing), pizza & movie nights, slumber parties, karaoke nights, silent disco
parties.
I am the kind of person who loves to meet and interact with new people and bring
people together and I get on well with everyone.
If there are any suggestions I will gladly receive them and do my best to make them
happen. Every opinion matters. Let's make the most of this experience and make sure we
don't spend the whole year studying! Cheers!
Sports Coordinator
Dhritiman Sharma
My Primary motive will be to ensure a variety of sports equipment of a professional
standard be made available at ample to the residents. Constantly monitor the needs and
demands of my fellow residents. Take note and ensure maintenance of all equipment.
Keep residents up-to-date with major sporting events and also organise popular sports
sessions for everyone to engage and participate.
If people don't know me by my name probably you must have noticed an oversized guy
in the A common room playing Table Tennis most of the time. Well that's me :). I have a
thorough knowledge of the widely played sports around the globe and also have a fair
idea of the ones which are limited to certain regions only. The sports which I have
played and have thorough knowledge of are as below:1. Lawn Tennis
2. Cricket
3. Football
4. Table Tennis
5. Badminton
6. Field Hockey.
7. Basketball
8. Volleyball
9. Squash
It probably covers all major sports and I intend to make most of the above if not all
accessible and available to all the residents. I have been lucky to play all the above and
have a rich sporting resume to have an idea of so many games and therefore find myself
suitable for the above role.

As I study a MSc in Sustainability I am really sensitive about this argument and I want to
raise the awareness of the residents on environment and human rights by running
campaigns and social events. As a resident here in Melton Hall I see so many
inefficiencies in terms of recycling and I’m shocked by the fact that people waste so
much water and food. If elected I will cooperate with all the students to make them
aware of the impact that they have with their activity on the planet and on the other
people of the hall. Throughout campaigns, distribution of pamphlets and social events I
will make them understand how to recycle in a good way, I am willing to cooperate with
the managers to facilitate and improve the recycling activity and I will work hard also to
reduce the waste of food and water.
I really want to make a difference in the world in terms of sustainability, that’s why I
started to study Sustainability here at UoN, to make a change in and for our world.
Melton Hall has around 150 students; the fact that together we are a small group of
people doesn’t mean that we can’t make a big difference. I would like the hall to excel in
recycling and reduction of the waste and I’m willing to work hard for this, but I also want
all the students to respect and work with each other for the environment. I know that
many people are not sensible enough about environmental and social welfare, but I also
know that if we teach them and if we cooperate all together we can make a big
difference; that’s why I would like to be elected, to make this change happen.

I will create more events so that all of us can get to know each other better. We're a big
hall there’s many more people we have not met yet. I will also make sure that the
people that don't enjoy going out will have loads of fun and not feel left out. I try and
keep the JCR open for longer so we can have our game and movie nights. And more
free pizza/shot events!
I have been part of my student government in both my school and college that has
given me experience for this role. I am a good listener, I can listen to peoples issues and
work on them with my committee and come up with a solution.
Abdi Ahmed
To make something inclusive, you need to manage regular events and socials both inside
and outside of halls. I believe that I can achieve this as president of the JCR. Feedback is
a vital role for insuring what's currently working well, and what needs improving, so I will
also hold sessions where anybody who feels they have anyone issues or ways to make
something better in the halls have their say and I will take this up to the warden. So
overall I think using the student’s feedback on what they currently think and regular
events should make the halls a more inclusive experience.
I believe I am the perfect choice for this position because of my positive energy which is
needed for a role like this as well as my ability to not choke under pressure and always
keep a cool head, something I'm sure will be tested during this role. I enjoy helping
people, making people more comfortable, listening to any problems they have not just
within halls but in general and finding a way to make it better. I was appointed school
council for most of my years during secondary school and A level because I cared about
the voices that students had and was willing to voice them to those higher up. I believe
not only will I make people feel more welcome but I will make the halls an even better
experience and set a great standard as a president.
Bongai Viki
I would try my best to involve everyone in all hall socials, having been at Newark for a
couple of weeks now i have come to realise that some fellow students don't like to
participate in night time activities as clubbing isn’t their scene. As president i would try
my best to talk to all the fellow Newark's and offer a range of activities and outing that
would make sure everyone participated and benefited from the activities. I can achieve
this because I am an easily approachable and bubbly character ( at least i like to think
so.)
Becoming president for Newark would be an amazing accomplishment especially only
having been in university for less than a month. I have great communication skills which
were developed through my tutoring job whist at sixth form, I believe active listening is
also key in being a successful president. No one likes someone who can’t take ideas
other than their own on board. I am an organised individual therefore I believe I would
be able to easily commit to my duties and do them to the best of my ability, at the end
of the day 1st year is said to be one of the best years of your life and me being a reason
as to why it was would be something I would relish in deeply.
Vice President
James Scott
I would get myself involved in day to day life as much as possible, in order to listen to
as many people as possible. Hearing the viewpoint of fellow hall mates will stand me in
good stead to make the hall experience as inclusive as possible, by acting on the needs
of the people in a rational manner. Moreover, I would publicise hall events in order to
get as many people involved – this way people will feel more comfortable and willing to
make new friends and share their experiences at university so far
I have previous experience as a sports captain of rugby, hockey and cricket, which has
enabled me to excel as part of group whilst maintain a clear head in order to make
important decisions when required. Moreover having been a karate instructor for two
years from the age of 11 to 13, I learnt from an early age the importance of good time
management and organisation. Traits I have developed to this day and are just a few
qualities I will bring to my role as either Treasurer or Vice President of Newark hall.
Shannon Mills
As I believe that equality and treating everyone the same is one of the key things our
halls needs, this is what I plan to do. Not a single person’s ideas, thoughts or opinions
would be excluded. If anyone needed help, I would be sure to help them. People need
to feel comfortable in their 'home' and this is what Newark is. We are all each other’s
temporary family therefore I would make sure they have the trust in me and the rest of
the team to help with any problems they encounter on their journey. I would like to
make Newark a place to study, make friends, relax, and make sure that even the shyest
person has the best university experience as possible. Regardless of what position I get, I
would make sure Newark is a clean, environmentally friendly and safe place where we
are not just hall mates but one big family!
I have already had a variety of leadership opportunities, such as assistant head girl,
prefect and have already helped with organising events, representing my fellow peers
ideas and would like to consider myself as a friendly person (as some of you would have
hopefully noticed) so I would now like to have the opportunity to meet more people and
represent every single persons ideas! My main motto in life is to 'live everyday like its
your last' and that's the approach I would take with our halls, making any queries
important, creating events for everyone to take part in - whether you're a party person
or (unfortunately) like me a hermit who likes to study and drink tea, then you won't feel
disadvantaged at uni! #voteforshinello2k15 x

Newark is the biggest hall in the University campus, as a treasurer it will be my duty to
make sure that essential investments are being made for the betterment of this
accommodation.
Under my supervision the finances of the hall will be well managed , also Study room,
JCR and IT room be well equipped and updated. Machines in the laundry room will be
more functional.
My concentration and effort will also largely be directed towards 'The Core' and the
Bedrooms.
I am studying Mathematics and Economics and it will be an honour to be a treasurer of
Newark Hall and it is no doubt that I will be great at this job.
Kurandip Munday
I will try and to ensure that any social plans will have enough funding to go ahead. I will
also try to bring my enthusiasm to the whole team and make sure that everyone on the
committee is having fun however also performing as well!
I'm a big fan of numbers! I'm also doing financial accounting and have worked in an
accounting firm for work experience so I have some previous experience behind me. Also
I like meeting new people so joining the committee will help with that.
Shoaib
I will make sure the activities rep takes you to the best nightlife events Nottingham has
to offer and for those of you who don’t go out, we can have movie nights in the JCR. I
will get a gaming console in the JCR with Fifa (of course). Fixing the TVs in both JCRs is
also a priority for me.
Being a Business Student, I will make sure the finances are managed in the best way
possible so that we can have as much free pizza as possible. I always like to receive
feedback from others so that I can improve myself.
Sabahat Mukadam
I would ensure that any activities we organise include everyone in the hall. This would
consist of having a variety of events for people who drink as well as for people who
don't. In terms of organising events, I will work with the other Newark committee
members and organise events that people want. We can gather this information by
asking everyone in Newark what types of nights out they would like to have. I feel that
our hall should meet up regularly as this is a good way of socialising and I believe that
we should all feel part of one big family.
I enjoy meeting new people, I'm very approachable and friendly. I have experience
working in a bank therefore as a treasurer, I will ensure that the money allocated to us is
being spent wisely and we do not go over our budget. I will also come with ways to
raise more money for us to spend on even more events and nights out. I think Newark
hall is one of the best halls to live in and I want to make sure that our events reflect
that. My main aim will be to ensure that our time in the hall is the best it can be.
Ravin Thakrar
I'd like to gain feedback from members of the hall to try and gauge an interest as to
what students want from their hall experience. I'd like to organise a number of events
throughout the year for all to participate in, whether they are of party going kind or not.
I think that welfare is a massive issue, and that I would like there to be an open forum
for people to discuss their problems; perhaps set up social media pages whereby people
can message if they having problems or issues which we can look to deal with. The Hall
Committee is also a great voice for change, and hopefully we can look to implement any
changes to improve Newark Hall for the best and for the future.
The great thing about Newark is that there are a large number of people from diverse
backgrounds, and I believe that through collaboration, we can ensure all are included,
and have the best possible hall experience.
I'm a passionate, enthusiastic individual, and am motivated to contribute to creating the
best hall experience for everyone.
I have a wealth of experience working in committees, from social committees organising
social and charitable events, to school executives communicating student views and
implementing change.
These experiences have taught me such skills as organisation, time management and
communication - essential qualities for any committee member.
Having previously worked in the finance industry, and as Financial Director for a
successful Young Enterprise company, I believe this will add value and contribute to my
success should I be elected as treasurer. I would do my best to maximise our budget,
and efficiently look to get the best value and most for our money to host the best
events.
Activities Rep
Charlotte Stone
I would make sure that there are activities run to suit everyone, if you do not like
clubbing then we can organise a movie night, a rugby screening, karaoke at the bar or
work with the Sports rep to organise a sports day.
I will make sure that there are activities for everyone to join in with and that all involved
have fun and a good night, whether that be bowling, clubbing, or a day trip somewhere!
Sports Coordinator
Brittany Hitch
Being a sports rep I'd like to talk and interact with other students and really hear what
they want out of sports. I acknowledge that some people like really competitive sport;
other just like a bit of socialisation in their day. Same with different kinds of sports, from
football to chess, I really want to be able to cater for everyone’s interests and it’s
something to help people get to know the other people in their hall.
Another thing I would do to make the hall experience an inclusive one, would be to
encourage spectating. There are many people who are put off playing sport by the
pressure of winning and losing or simply lack the skill, but by spectating there’s the
opportunity to not only cheer on your team but also observe and learn the game in case
you choose to play in the future.
Me personally, I think I would do very well in this position as back home in Australia I
held a similar position of sports representative in my halls, and it was my job to oversee
the coaches of the sporting teams as well as organise other things for the everyday
students to join in on like a muck about game of stuck in the mud for example.
I think sporting and recreation is a big part of a good work life balance, it’s great for
stress relief and something to clear the head. Even if you’re not playing, spectating gets
you out of your room and out for some fresh air, so I definitely promote that if you’re
not quite up for a game.

Become a general, approachable resident dedicated to ensuring nobody feels alone or
upset. Quite specifically alone, because everyone needs a friend.
I know exactly how it feels to feel as though you're completely on your own and without
friends, and as though you're making no progress both socially and academically. It's not
nice, and if I'm going to be an introvert while I'm living in Newark Hall, I'd like nothing
more than to help out those who have the same problem as I do. I get a great deal of
satisfaction feeling as though I've helped somebody else.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Harriet MacKenzie
I am a very caring and sociable person, I am good at reading people's moods and
responding appropriately. If I were elected, I would check in on Newark Hall residents
regularly to see how their university experience is going and if they need any help. I will
leave my contact information for students so they can reach me if there is a problem, as
I am very friendly and approachable. Also, I am great at problem solving and finding
solutions if there are problems between two individuals. If someone is feeling left out, I
always make sure that they are included. For example, after Fresher’s Week we met a girl
who hadn’t made any friends, now she is in our friendship group.
In general, I would consider myself a very approachable and friendly person. I am also
very good with people, and can handle myself in many situations. After spending a gap
year working for a family in America, I have had to deal with situations both very good
and very bad (including children cursing at me), but I was able to deal with them
rationally and appropriately. Additionally, having already lived miles away from home for
a year has made me very mature and improved my communication skills a lot, more
than I could have imagined in a year. Also, having to maintain a full time job where I had
to be incredibly flexible for a year has given me a very good work ethic, and time
management skills.
Niharika
An inclusive hall experience is an experience that you enjoy and use all the facilities to
the max. We have so much to do with the JCR room and the bar downstairs, why not
organise more events? University is one in a life time experience that we should enjoy to
the fullest (in moderation of course) and it should begin within our halls.
I believe I should be elected because I understand that everyone is different. We all
living in halls with many people from around the globe, coming from different cultures
and backgrounds. By me understanding that everyone is different I find it really easy to
get on with people and I feel as if I can always understand different situations. I always
enjoy helping people and it is something that I would like to go into long-term.
Therefore I believe that I should be elected because helping people is a passion for me
and I would feel privilege to fulfil my passion. I'm also very sociable, I can maintain a
conversation with anyone that would like to speak to me. This is why I believe I should
be elected to be part of the Student Union.
Environment & Social Justice Rep
Matthew Brooks
It turns out I have a far greater amount of spare time than I was expecting and therefore
I have time to listen to the concerns of students within the hall.
It would be nice to have LGBT+ social justice issues handled by a member of the LGBT+
who can handle such issues sensitively.
International Rep
Rasar
I want to make everyone to feel included and feel at home by creating a better
understanding of diverse cultures at Newark.
If I'm elected, I would host more multicultural food events at the atrium and celebrate
festivals from different nationalities.
As a student from Thailand, I understand how international students feel and the issues
they face. This allows me to better suggest solutions so that they can cope with the
problems and possibly benefits all.

I feel we are in such a lovely halls of residence that we need to make the most of it. I
would like to see some great social events throughout the year that encourage
everybody to get involved. From Karaoke to a big summer BBQ to our own Wimbledon
style tournament and more pub quizzes and beer pong, I think there is a lot of potential
to have some great social events as a hall this year. I also think that getting some
Nightingale merchandise for us all early on in the year would be of great benefit to the
hall- sweatshirts, sports kit, keychains and lanyards are just a few ideas I have had. I also
feel like we need some more furniture in the JCR, I would aim for more sofas and
beanbags so more people can enjoy using it. The words 'Cash point' have been thrown
around for a long time, although it is pretty much impossible to get one in Nightingale
for security reasons I would try to make sure the new sports village has one as a
compromise! I also feel that the small JCR would benefit from an Xbox, I feel it would
definitely be well used! I also feel strongly in continuing the links we have with charities,
putting on events so we can give back to others less fortunate than ourselves. However, I
am open to all ideas and new suggestions, as this for everyone after all!
I think it’s a shame that we've never had a female president, and it is something I would
like to change!
Having had leadership experience prior to uni, I am keen to use this but also develop it
further, helping me to become a good president. I also feel that I could bring a lot of
other qualities to the role.
One of the main reasons I would like to be president is I feel it gives me the opportunity
to get to know everyone and to get involved. I think I can really make a difference and
make your year the best it can possibly be!
Alex Russell
I love the team environment you experience whilst playing sport and that is the
environment of inclusiveness I want to create in our hall. As a president it isn’t about
being a ‘dictator’ its about leading a group of people to succeed in the common goal
that we have set ourselves. Together with my JCR committee we will work together to
ensure that all voices are heard and that all the different matters in hall are addressed. I
do know that not everyone will be comfortable to talk to me but I know we will have a
great approachable committee to represent everyone’s needs and ideas.
I had played team sports since I was 5 years old so I have met lots of different people
who I have learned to work with over time. I play Lacrosse for Poynton, England U19 and
the 1st university team. Lacrosse a great part of my life that as made me who I am and I
know will help me in my role as president as I am very use to working in a team. I study
Chemistry which is a demanding subject but it has taught me to become very organise
and have great time management. By having these different activities it gives me a lot of
pressure but I need that pressure to function and get everything done.
Vice President
Jessica Brennink Meijer
I really enjoy the social aspects of hall life and it is my ambition to aid in creating a hall
atmosphere that is inclusive to everyone, both social drinkers and non-drinkers.
I would do this be specifically aiding the Activities reps in putting on socials for the hall
and helping to provide them with ideas for exciting and inclusive social events.
Also I have vast experience in roles of responsibility and this would help me to support
the President in the running of the hall committee.
I am organised and friendly and love to discuss ideas and listen to other people. I really
want to help create an inclusive hall atmosphere and bring everyone together.
Nightingale presents such a great opportunity to get involved and create a great social
environment so working closely with the activities reps and President is something I
know I can be enthusiastic about. I'm a hard worker and I’m ready to take on a role of
responsibility within the hall and the Students Union.
Nats Gilchrist
1) Have activities aimed for all personalities during fresher’s
2) Put the tables together in the dining room, so you can make a friend at every meal!!
3) Have a meet up for people on the same courses, to make the first few weeks easier
4) Run movie nights in the TV room for more chilled sociable evenings
(To be read in a passionate, American accent)
I promise, to do my upmost best, to listen to the people of Nightingale Hall. And I
promise, to try, and make their dreams a reality.
Don’t trust my words, vote for me and trust my actions.
Take a chance on the girl from 309, following her own dreams and vote for me as Vice
President.
Jasmin Higgs
I would listen to the members of the hall and try to accommodate their needs as
necessary, especially since I shall be supporting the President, JCR and hall as much as
possible.
I hope to open the bar more frequently and organising nights out as a hall throughout
the year. I would attempt to involve the SU societies such as the LGBT+ society, FemSoc
and others to run cluster hall specific events such as film nights in the JCR to make sure
everyone feels as though they have an opportunity to be involved. I would also attempt
to have JCR run non-drinking events for those who can't go clubbing because they have
a 9am!
I am an extremely organised and dedicated person who wants to make sure everyone
feels involved in hall, as well as to make sure everyone has as much fun as possible! I am
outgoing and easy to talk to- you can come to me about anything regarding the JCR if
I'm elected as I'm always around.
I have had previous experience in academic-based committees so I feel that I'm well
equipped to cope with the needs of Nightingale Hall.
Treasurer
Alexander Gardner
I think it is important that there is money available so that people’s ideas for improving
the halls can be put into practice and that there are events going on to suit everyone's
tastes. We all love a big night out, then sometimes it's nice to have quiet movie night. It
would also be handy not to run out of money for these changes and events!
I really like being in Nightingale Hall, and I think it would be great to make the most of
our time here together. I enjoy working in a team and would welcome other people’s
input and ideas on how to improve life in the halls. I am approachable as long as I
haven't just woken up and always more than happy to chat!
Neil Hudson
Firstly as treasurer I would ensure that the JCR is cost-effective with their events making sure we have enough money for transport and we are not excluding anyone
simply because we do not have enough money for a coach, for example.
Secondly, since Nightingale is a small hall, I would like to make sure events are as
intimate as possible - trying to include everyone. For example during fresher’s week I felt
a sense of team mentality on the bus there and back, due to how small and tight-knit
Nightingale is. I would attempt to recreate this experience and draw everyone together
on events (and throughout the year in general)
Constantly grinning and smiling, I consider myself easy to approach if anyone ever feels
uncomfortable or raises a question. I really appreciated the fact that I could approach
any of the hall mentors with confidence - and again would like to recreate this.
I also have a lot of history of working in team - from playing for a football team to
doing academic group work both in and outside of school. Meeting new people and
having to communicate ideas and get along with everyone is something I have been
becoming more comfortable with.
Katie Burke
I consider myself to be a social, outgoing person and feel I'll be easy to approach if
people are unsure within the hall. Currently I have already made friends with different
characters on every floor and think I will be a great addition to the JCR committee. I'm
not afraid of letting my voice be heard so think I will make a good contribution in any
meetings held.
I feel I am the best candidate for treasurer as I am studying a maths degree at University
so am very cable of working with number. Before attending the University I worked in
my local newsagents where I was the only shop worker, so had sole responsibility of the
shop. With this I handled money within the till, so am able to show I am trustworthy with
money.
Also coming from a less well off family, I have often had to budget my money, so feel I
will be able bring these attributes forward into the role of treasurer.
Activities Rep

Living in halls is one of the best things about first year so I think its important we make
the most of all being together and have a sick year! I’ve got plenty of ideas that would
suit all the different types of people living here in Nightingale including weekly prinks,
beer pong competitions, cocktail evenings for the girls (and boys) ,cosy film/food nights
in the JCR at the weekends, evening quizzes in the Scutari hall bar, and monthly out of
hall socials where we can be throwing it back to Fresher’s and be out altogether
representing Nightingale! We're so lucky to be in a hall of just 150 people making it
super easy to make loads of friends and I'm keen to make a big effort in ensuring these
social events will help us get closer as a hall and have an unforgettable first year at
Nottingham!

We live in the smallest hall on campus, but as far as I’ve gathered, the nicest and most
fun. I think that with only 150 people in the hall, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t all
be friends. I’ve got plenty of ideas aimed at all types of residents, some for those who
like to party regularly, and some for those who’d much prefer a quiet night in. Some of
my ideas include beer pong competitions, hall speed dating (with pre drinks of course),
Saturday movie nights, monthly hall socials, pre drinking events, themed nights in, and of
course, the end of year BBQ with ideally a bouncy castle (because who doesn’t love a
bouncy castle?!?!) I feel that with the intensity of uni life, everyone needs the social
aspect in order to keep happy, and I feel like I can provide ideas that cater to everyone’s
tastes and needs.
Event management is what I do. In London I work as a nightclub promoter and host, as
well as assisting in the managing of events run by my company Vagabond Events. This
has allowed me to amass contacts in the nightlife industry both back in London and up
here in Notts, which I feel would ease the process, and improve the outcome of events
like the formal after parties and hall socials. I’ve been involved in the creation and
execution of highly successful day parties in London, and feel like I could at least make a
big effort to make sure that everyone has a great time in their first year here at
Nightingale, making loads of new friends from all walks of life.
Jasmin Knowles
I would aim to include every member of the hall and represent all of their interests when
it comes to organising activities, from nights out to daytime/weekend ventures. I would
like to incorporate the views of all students, for example with a voting system or taking
to students myself, in order to get a good gauge. Being such a small close knit hall I
would bring everyone together to ensure my peers enjoy University even outside the
academics. I would love to give everyone something to do on a frequent basis even if it
just means incorporating weekly nights out. I have some exciting ideas which would help
people discover new activities and talents, aiding them in university life.
I would describe myself as a social person and have got to know the vast majority of the
hall already so I would find it easy to gauge everyone's interests. Having been a
representative for club nights both at University and at home, as well as managing a
wedding this summer i understand the requirements and expectations of organising
events. I see myself as very friendly and approachable, and have always regarded social
activities as an important part of University life. Having been a House Captain and
Second XI Captain for Hockey, I have gained the necessary cooperation and
communication skills required to be a member of the JCR.
Sports Coordinator

Welfare Rep (Male)

Having spent a couple of weeks settling into Nightingale, the welcome and reception has
been amazing and I've already made very good friends. I feel like I would be able to
improve this as a part of the JCR committee as I am an approachable, friendly and
helpful person, who is unafraid to speak up for those who i represent. Above all I feel
like I can help people deal with any problems that are brought to me with the required
discretion and respect, and feel that there are very few problems, if any, that I would be
unable to help with in some way. That said, I'm sure that the good people of Nightingale
Hall will try their best to prove me wrong!!!
I feel I am the best candidate for Welfare Rep as in the past I have been seen by friends
as a source of advice and support. Though this is relatively little actual experience in this
area, I am passionate about creating a strong, cohesive community in which the
members of this hall can easily find lifelong friends .
Welfare Rep (Female)
Jiawen Huang
As an applied linguist with good communication skill and willingness to hear and solve
others' problems, I will talk to everyone about their experience and feedback them to
hall committee to make sure that their needs are addressed. I will also design various
methodologies such as doing anonymous online questionnaires to collect feedbacks.
I have been working as a member of LCF in University of Nottingham Ningbo campus
(UNNC) for two years. This enables me to understand my classmates needs and address
them efficiently to school. Such an experience can be directly applied into my role as
welfare rep since this is a role needing good communication skill and problem-solving
ability which are what I already achieved in my LCF career.
Environment & Social Justice Rep
Matthew Hills
Everybody has some sort of connection to an environmental or social cause and
where is there a better place to pursue that than at University. It could be
anything: from a group that wants to start Nightingale's own campaign or just
putting up a poster about something you care about. Doing something quietly or
organising an evening event, anonymously or leading the campaign yourself - it
can be anything. I would try and get a range of campaigns going so that
everybody can do as much or as little as they want.
I think we can make a little bit of difference. Only a little, but still something. Just
one or two events through the year could change something for the better - I'm
not talking about switching of the lights or more recycling, but actual stuff getting involved in the UoN Living Wage Campaign, all of us signing a petition
for a cause or fundraising for a charity someone has a connection to. No political
rants, nothing phoney, just making a little difference to causes Nightingale cares
about. Thank you for reading.
Muhammad Abdullah Qureshi
Having lived in Nightingale Hall last year too, I know that students come with a lot of
expectations. The point is to find that perfect blend of homeliness at university, as well
as being sociable with your colleagues whilst you are here. I will try to make the hall
experience an inclusive one by ensuring that there is a friendly aura within the entire
hall, such that everyone interacts with one another and helps everyone out. We are the
smallest hall on campus, and we can only actively make the most of this year by having
a good time collectively – which is something I wish to achieve.
Having served in the JCR last year too (as the Treasurer), I have a sense of familiarity
with how the JCR committee functions and that could come to use again as well, if
elected.
I should be elected as the ‘Environmental and Social Justice’ Representative because I
believe that all students in Nightingale Hall should be actively involved in community
engagement/social initiatives and ensure that all opinions are voiced; additionally, as we
are the smallest hall on campus, it is not very difficult for us to easily win £100 monthly
to our JCR budget through the Go Greener Halls Competition (which is given to the hall
that minimises its electricity usage and recycles the most) – just to point out, Nightingale
Halls won last year, so we need to keep the streak going.

In my role as the Vice President, I would support the president along with supporting the
rest of the group with developing ideas and helping to meet goals. My plans for
becoming the Vice President include my campaigning time which will give me time to
interact and gain information on what people require for the year and it will allow me to
discuss and develop my ideas.
When I set my mind to something it will get done, without fail.
I'm very committed and I have carried out a role very similar to this before, I was the

I enjoying working within a team but I also enjoy working independently to ensure that

Organize and promote the activities among different halls. Hold sports challenge or
spring-cleaning in my hall to build our healthy well-beings. Be the best guide and helper
of my team and my hall(Raleigh Park).Help our faculties to make a better environment
with the president's efforts.
I was ever a president of Varsity in the Duke Kunshan University which is an international
University. I have experience of how to organize an activity and connect different nations'
and races' together. I would love to communicate and listen to others, that will make us
understand each other. I hope all of the activities are supported by my hall and my team.
I will try my best to make "my hall" to be "our hall".

I would constantly be looking to run events for a range of people, from social nights, to
music nights and food festivals.
I intend to use these events to make everybody similar to the meet each other.
Also sport competitions between different members of Raleigh Park at different courts
compete with each other.
I want to help make all the introverts and extroverts feel included in the community.
I am a great people’s person, my only goal is to make sure everybody is happy.
I always put others peoples welfare as my priority, I can't really say I can offer you too
much specifically, but I will try my hardest to make sure everyone is happy no matter
what time and what I have to do to help people within my control.
Welfare Rep (Female)

I’m a third year business student from the faraway land of Hong Kong. I chose Raleigh
for its of openness, friendliness and diversity, and I’ve been enjoying myself here for the
past 2 years. As a foreigner Raleigh is basically my life and home now. I’m running
because I have a pile of ideas, and because I think I have the commitment and efficiency
to carry them through. If you elect me, I’ll be approachable and in touch with your
concerns, but I’ll also take a serious, no-bullshit approach to the role, which is what I
think you’d want since the committee deals with issues that really affect your lives at
Raleigh. I will not let you down.
I propose to
•
Have a happy hour once a week to get people into the JCR, and buy some
couches and beanbags for the JCR.
•
Have JCR events and activities (eg. Diwali Themed Formal, Halloween Ent,
Christmas Ent and Chinese New Year Themed Formal) to stop the hall from feeling so
dead.
•
Make the quiet room open for 24 hours, and let people know it’s there.
•
Introduce fresher’s to the JCR committee and its work properly, and make the first
open meeting widely known to residents.
•
Get a printing system in the quiet room, and better wifi (more routers maybe).

I would try to organise bi-weekly or monthly social get-togethers to make sure that the
international students staying in Raleigh Park are having a great time and are able to
make the most of their time at university; and utilise all possible opportunities that are
available.
In addition to this, I would create a Facebook group to keep in touch with the students
in order to efficiently find optimal dates for the socials.
Last but not least, I will be there as a friend and contact person to offer any help for
those who need it.
I am an international student from Austria with Indian origin and I know how it feels to
be placed within new environments in different cultures, which I have not been exposed
to before. I am really social and open minded and I’m very excited to meet and interact
with students from all over the world, as this will allow me expand my knowledge and
understanding of Countries from all over the world. I believe that I can use the
experience I gained from working on my school council team, coupled with the variety of
languages I speak, to provide the best job for the international student representative.

Life in hostel will be one the best times in life for every single student. It will be
something which will be cherished for life time. To make life best at your halls of
residence is by meeting up often, sharing the food you have, expressing your thoughts
and views for overall development. Fun activities can be organized. Once in a while we
can meet up for dinner and each one can prepare a dish of their choice and we can
have a multi-cuisine dinner. Trips can be arranged for the students so that everyone gets
to know the others and we can also explore new places. Also we can have meetings at
regular intervals so that residents can share their views about various matters and these
can be used in a productive way to make life better.
As an international student there are several issues which I will be undergoing and
almost every student will be undergoing the same. I am friendly and outgoing person
and can express thoughts well. If elected as an International Representative, I can talk on
behalf the entire group and do my best to sort out issues. Also, my friendly nature
enables me to socialize with all. This will make Raleigh Park feel like home and the
residents will have loads of memories to cherish when they leave the place.

Postgrads should get to know other postgrads in the hall community first. Then in time
mix with undergrads. Pub quizzes, nights out, any social event that gets people out of
their rooms and talking with each other is basically the only magic formula anyone
needs.
I have held 5 committee positions running societies and sports clubs in my
undergraduate degree. 3 of which were leadership positions. I have the experience to
make a solid postgraduate rep, not to mention I am a postgrad.

General good times and fun as much and as long as possible.
I think I can listen to opinions and improve this great hall. Make a great hall a wee bit
better!
Danny Wiser
At Rutland, we have been blessed with bar facilities and yet have not seen full use of it. I
propose we implement a new system in which the bar is open every day, with bar staff
being students from this hall who want to earn a bit more cash. The bar will be
advertised and promoted to everyone so it can become the main social hub in the hall.
I shall also construct a system in which Rutlanders are paired up with people doing their
course in the hall. It can feel lonely, confusing and daunting especially at the early stages
of university and to have someone experience the same difficulties as you can act as a
real source of relief and help.
Lastly, I will make myself regularly available to listen to any suggestions from my
hallmates that will make them feel more included in day-to-day life at Rutland.
Logistically, I will ease your day-to-day university life. Have you ever been short of cash
and couldn't be bothered for the walk up the downs to Portland? Be it for the angry
cabbie, the late night take-away you crave or you are missing that fiver that would allow
you to avoid the queue at Crisis on a Wednesday? Then I have a solution for you. A
cashpoint at Rutland is unrealistic but I will stay committed to working with the
Presidents at nearby halls Derby, Nightingale and dare I say it even Sherwood so that we
can petition the SU to get an ATM machine at the Sports Centre.
The main reason I should be elected is because I love Rutland more than anyone I know
and want everyone to love it as much as I do. I will be enthusiastic and 100% committed
to the role. So please #makethewiservote!
Mitchell Doucette
Our hall is full of people from all over the world that come here with different interests. I
feel like the best way as a president to keep the experience inclusive is to ask everyone
what events they want to have and try to cater to everyone when planning them. This
would include drinking and non-drinking events. Nights in like an outdoor movie under
the stars as well as going out and exploring all that Nottingham has to offer. Fancy dress
club nights, ice skating and a casino night. I plan to have events throughout the year
that everyone will enjoy and feel included in.
I plan to bring all the Rutlanders together so that everyone's freshman year is their best
year of University. I will include everyone's interests when making decisions for Rutland.
Be open for everyone to come and talk to me about any issues they are having with the
hall. Open to any suggestions for events or ways to improve Rutland. Overall I plan to
have an amazing year here with everyone.
Vice President
Jamie Watt
My aim as vice-president would be to support and carry out the ideas of the committee
to the best of my ability. At the end of the day, I want to use my position to ensure the
Rutland community are happy with their hall. Any reasonable ideas any member of
Rutland in or out of the committee has I will look to carry it out to the best of my ability.
Every good president has a good vice-president. I will look to offer my own ideas to help
improve Rutland whenever necessary but my main aim is to take the ideas of the
president and the committee and help make them happen. I will bring a practical and
reasoned stance to the committee to help ensure the best proposals are made a reality.
At the end of the day, I love this hall and will always prioritise the needs of its
inhabitants. I will always support the president and committee and I am very
approachable so I can be a great help to anyone that has any queries and I can act as
an intermediate; bringing the ideas of our fellow Rutlanders to the committee.
Treasurer
Olumide
I will ensure that all sport activities are well organised and raise awareness of all sporting
opportunities to all members of Rutland hall by promoting sporting events effectively. I
will ensure that the hall experience is inclusive by offering and advertising different
sporting opportunities which appeal to as many individuals as possible whilst taking on
board new ideas for sporting opportunities.
I have a strong sporting background and have held various roles in sporting events.
These include being a sports captain at my secondary school and for sixth form, being a
member of Woodford green and Essex athletics club and being a member of Debden
sports fc. I will ensure that all sporting activities are well organised and that all
individuals at Rutland have full information about the activities available. I am also a well
organised and punctual individual who works hard to ensure that all goals set are
completed successfully and will incorporate this attitude into this role.
Jordan Lewis King
As Treasurer i would work hard to ensure the budget is distributed fairly in order to
incorporate everyone at Rutland hall and not just those who love the party scene. In
order to achieve this i will work closely with my other JCR members & members of
Rutland hall by being a good listener so that a variety of events that everyone can enjoy
can be funded, whilst ensuring the budget is under control and we don't over spend. To
which my degree in business management should strongly compliment the role!
I believe i would be suitable for the role since i have had experience with managing
finance before, from work experience in a variety of companies. As well as doing a
degree in business management with my core modules in financial accounting. However
what I think makes me stand out is that as well as being able to manage money I am
also experienced with managing and listening to people from my role as a supervisor
working in a busy night club managing a team of 6 people & from school where i was
deputy head of communications in 6th form. Therefore I feel I would be best suited to
help put on a variety of events with my other JCR members to incorporate everyone at
Rutland hall without going over budget.
Nabeel Nizamdeen
Give the IMS team better facilities and organisation.
I’m awesome.
Activities Rep
Ella Patel
I believe that the hall experience should be enjoyable for all who reside within it. I will
ensure there are a range of events offered which appeal to all residents tastes and
interests such as movie marathons, pizza nights, bowling and many more. Along with
these I will arrange daytime events for the weekend such as Zorb football, trips to Alton
towers and inter-hall competitions including paint balling, sports days and pub quizzes.
As a hall I think it is important to feel a sense of togetherness and cater for all
personalities across the board and I will do everything within my power to make sure of
this.
For many years now I have been involved with organising a variety of events from charity
hockey tournaments to school balls where I was responsible for ensuring the smooth
running and coordination of numerous different aspects. I am enthusiastic and have a
wide range of hobbies and as a result I will attempt to incorporate as many interests as
possible into the activities schedule for the coming year. Having attended a large
number of events so far this year I have thoroughly enjoyed many but at the same time I
have seen areas for improvement and I will actively encourage other members of the hall
to come forwards with ideas and areas for improvement.
Antonia Keen
I would help to organise a range of events and activities which everyone would be able
to get involved with, including fun nights out. I would also listen to suggestions about
activities and events which you would like to happen.
I will listen to what you as a hall wants, and make the rest of this year just as good as it
has started off! (with plenty of alcohol and takeaways)
Scarlett Allen
I would speak to everyone and make sure that everybody has a chance to get involved
by organizing events that appeal to a wide array of different people and personalities. I
think that it is really important for everybody to feel that they are a part of Rutland Hall
as I want everyone to get the best experience out of our first year of university that they
can. As activities rep I would organize events that would bring everyone in Rutland
together and I would also listen to other people's suggestions as to events that they
would like to happen, therefore making the hall experience as inclusive as possible.
I think I should be elected as I would like to think of myself as a very social person, in
these first few weeks I have tried to get to know everyone in my hall and have been very
involved in all the social events run by the university, my hall and societies. I would really
like to be more involved with Rutland Hall and I see this as the perfect opportunity to do
so as it not only means I have responsibility but also I can organize events that will make
Rutland a great hall to be a part of.
Rahul Pugalia
I would organise events that appeal to most people in Rutland, from socials/hall crawls
to chilled out events such as movie nights. I'd also take in feedback from everyone so
that people can have a say in what events they'd like to see happen in the future.
I'm open to suggestions for the types of events that people want to see happen. I'm also
fairly organised and I genuinely believe that I'd do a great job as Activities Rep.
Sports Coordinator
Robert Daniels
I feel that it is vital that anyone who wants to partake in any sport has the chance to do
so, regardless of ability. Therefore I will regularly communicate with the captains of the
different IMS teams to make sure they are being fair in giving everyone a chance to
compete against the other halls on behalf of Rutland. I will also look to organise other
sporting events during the weekend, namely a inter-hall pool tournament when a few
boys and girls from the halls can compete against each other in a friendly environment.
The social side to organising these events is also positive for the members of this hall as
they can communicate with people they may have previously not spoken to.
Throughout my life I have always been active in all manner of sports, from football to
table-tennis. I have represented both my school and my local teams in big competitions.
For my school I represented Lancashire, after winning the county round, in a north west
round for badminton. Also in my role as prefect at school I helped to coach and
organise training drills for some of the younger pupils. I also used to run a 5-a-side team
in the local league and so I had to organise a team every week for the matches, which is
similar to my current position at Rutland as Football captain. I take pleasure in knowing
that matches are organised and that every player knows every detail about where to
meet and what kit to wear and therefore there are no worries about whether the match
will go ahead. I like to rise to the challenge of having responsibility on my shoulders as it
motivates me to succeed even more than normal. Therefore becoming sports
coordinator would make me want to help this hall be a sporting success.
James Howard
To create an inclusive hall experience, I would aim to encourage participation and
involvement in the day to day life of Rutland. Especially as a Sports coordinator, I would
try to ensure that as many people as possible from the hall played IMS sport. This would
hopefully improve the camaraderie and friendship among Rutlanders, whilst also creating
an opportunity for people to make new friends through sport. As an enthusiastic
sportsman myself, I would not hesitate to encourage others to participate as well.
Ultimately, however, one of my most important aims would simply be to provide a
reliable service as one of the JCR members and be someone to give back to Rutland
next year and support and help people where needed.
I feel I should be elected because I would bring a wealth of experience to the position. I
was my schools 1st XV rugby captain, 2ndXI cricket captain, and House Captain for one
of the three Houses at my school. Therefore, I have already experienced and become
comfortable with organising large numbers of people and sorting the logistical side of
sporting events. Throughout the school year I was required to organise events such as
House sports days, House music, House drama, as well as on a weekly basis liaising with
my sport coaches and organising Saturday rugby and cricket fixtures. I am used to being
in a position of responsibility and will bring efficiency and reliability to the position,
whilst also being an enthusiastic driver of sport and supporter of people getting involved
in the IMS programme.
Welfare Rep (Male)
Oliver Cunliffe
I would make the most of being on the committee by getting involved as much as
possible and including everyone in the hall. I am very easy to approach and talk to and
get on with everybody.
I have lots of experience of being involved in committees. In my gap year I worked as a
tennis counsellor at a summer camp in the US. This shows I'm able to get on with all
ages of people and have good leadership skills. I'm able to get things organised quickly
and effectively and I care about the wellbeing of fellow students. I am easy to approach
and talk to and believe that I will be a good welfare rep.
Nicolas Prothero
If I achieve a position on the JCR committee then I will start by creating events for
people to get involved with. For example have a sports day in Rutland and do activities
such as the egg and spoon race. Also I would try to get the bar open more often, this
will give people a place to socialize rather than going mooch. I would also try and get
people more involved in IMS sports for example at the moment we don't have a hockey
team.
From my experiences I have learnt how to be driven to accomplish goals and be able to
listen and share ideas. This all stems from team work which is a strong attribute I have,
which I have learnt from experiences like doing Young Enterprise and playing Rugby for
my local club. I am a well-rounded person that can listen and take in peoples idea's to
make the idea a reality.
Welfare Rep (Female)
Richelle “Richie” Jones
What I would do to make Rutland Hall's experiences inclusive ones is by actually
listening to the student residents of the hall and making sure that everyone gets cared
for, everything that could be cared for them is done, mostly that everyone has an
excellent, comfortable living experience, and that they all receive the Uni experience that
they came looking for; as well as their desired degree. As well, I would listen to and if I
could in my power reach out to the Hall Committee, even the Warden, and Tutors to see
and supply all that they need as well. Rutland will be inclusive because I will personally
work hard for everyone to get what they need to flourish and thrive as a University of
Nottingham student.
What I would like to contribute to share about being elected is that I have been a part
of Student Government Committee for every school that I have attended starting from
Year 8. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of my school on behalf of the students. I was a
Student Representative in every Student Government Committee. I would like people to
know that my programme is BA (Hons) Humanistic Counselling. Therefore this wonderful
experience that I am aiming to receive will not only help Rutland's residents have a
comfortable space to live, but it will also help me in my future career endeavours.
Success for all!
Environment & Social Justice Rep
Alex Holder
I would help to encourage Rutland hall to be green, through the encouragement of
green activities, such as recycling and trying to incorporate schemes that help to reduce
oil usage. In addition, I would discourage littering and try to set up reward schemes to
people who adhere to this.
I am a keen environmentalist and studying geography as a degree clearly shows my
interest in helping to the green cause. I'm approachable and like to help out others, in
addition I have many hobbies and interests and like to have a good laugh, so I feel that
Rutlanders can find comfort in talking about the environment with me!

President
James Perisco
I will ensure the Sherwood committee takes into account the needs and wishes of
everyone, including minorities, be they of faith, race, sexuality or simply opinion.
Sherwood should be known as a safe place for all of its students and their personalities.
This requires a significant effort by the committee to improve democracy, by allowing
anonymous suggestions and feedback, as well as transparency, so that students can see
how their requests are being implemented. Sherwood's residents are students, not
subjects of the JCR, and I will prevent any sense of elitism emerging on the committee.
Furthermore, I would enjoy liaising with the Welfare and Activities representatives to
provide a vast range of schemes that contribute to student life at Sherwood. The variety
of events and activities provided during Fresher’s Week should inspire us to organise
even better ones on a regular basis, that cater for both drinkers and non-drinkers.
After the enjoyment of our first few weeks in Sherwood, we're ready to make our own
mark on it. If I win the vote, I can make sure all students' voices are heard in the
committee, and that they can directly take part in the running of their Hall. After all, we
all deserve to decide how the budget we jointly contributed to is spent, and I'll assist the
Treasurer wherever necessary to make sure every penny is used prudently! In particular,
I'd like to hear students' ideas about renovating and equipping the common rooms.
As well as improving democracy, I'll liaise with the staff who keep Sherwood ticking in
order to ensure a healthy working relationship between the JCR and SCR. At school, I
was used to negotiating with staff on behalf of the student union, so I can guarantee
Sherwood students' interests will be represented strongly.
Paige Portal
I'd think of a variety of different events that include something for everyone. I'd get the
committee to break down barriers and get everyone involved and introduce different
blocks to each other so that people don't just hang out in their blocks but mix it up a
bit.
I'm pretty much a complete weirdo and I'll embarrass myself to new levels for the sake
of the hall. I also have great banter. I will do whatever I can to make Sherwood the best
hall and make you all BNOCs by Christmas. I'll also work with the warden to help you
with any issues and make you feel as comfortable as possible in our hall.
Marcos Luz
Like the question says make it an inclusive hall where everyone is welcomed.
Second year student, matured enough to know the system, responsible mechanical
engineer.
Yazz Takhar
If I had the opportunity to represent Sherwood Halls as JCR President I would organise
events and activities designed to engage all of Sherwood's members such as themed
nights out, table tennis tournaments and of course Harry Potter movie marathons in the
Junior Common Room - pizza included. Of course, this may not appeal to all and that is
why I would also organise regular meetings designed to allow fellow members of
Sherwood to consult, communicate and put forward their very own thoughts and ideas
on how to improve the experience of living in Halls.
I am an outgoing person and I would not be hesitant in expressing the views of
Sherwood members. I consider myself to be an approachable person and I would happily
converse with anyone and listen and respect their views.
Alexander Walker
I think that so far I've made such a great number of friends with so many people within
halls that I'll be able to really grasp what everyone's opinions and wishes are, and
hopefully voice them to a committee as it's head.
Throughout school I had responsibilities of running committees, having been president
of the English society and also on the committee for my boarding house. As well as this I
would love to try and have a greater involvement with Sherwood, and try and make
more of my time while here.
Vice President
Dominic Bellenger
I want to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and engaged. I want
Sherwood to be the hall where there are lots of activities for all types of people to get
involved with. It is my intention for this to be an open hall where everyone, including the
mentors and warden are fully involved and form close friendships with each other.
I believe that I am an strong candidate for the role because I am friendly and outgoing,
making it easy for anyone to come up to me with any issues they have or if they have
any suggestions or complaints about the running of the JCR. I am easily approachable
and get on well with everyone I have met in the hall. I am also very organised, one of
the key traits needed for successful event organisation. I used to work as a tutor for kids
aged 4-16 so I am used to not only being sympathetic to peoples individual needs but
also building a rapport with parents, giving feedback to them and dealing with any
issues they may have. I have developed good organisation and leadership skills by
setting up and running a touch rugby team back at home.

Ben Bloom
I've been described as a social butterfly before (still unsure whether that's a good or bad
thing) so I talk to pretty much everyone which I guess means I'm pretty inclusive. I'd take
everyone's views into account when discussing issues on the committee and ensure that
everyone has a say in the running of halls.
I'd love to do this job and I think I'd be really good at it. I think I'd be good at
organising stuff and making sure that everyone in Sherwood (aka the best halls in the
uni) has the best time ever. Being vice president means I'll be in charge of jumpers
(sounds exciting I know), and I can assure you that I wear jumpers nearly every day so if
anything I think I'm overqualified for the role. But yeah, it'd be fun and I think I'd be
good at it!
Treasurer
Aaron Basha
I would make the hall experience more inclusive by being an active member of the JCR
Committee, by this I mean that I will be socially active and approachable, so if any of the
Sherwood residents have a problem, financial or not, I will give my assistance if needed
and do my best to ensure that everyone enjoys their time here to the fullest.
I have held a previous position which involved taking the receipts and making sure it
matched the income at the end of the day, so I have experience with tracking income
and outgoings already.
Hannah Dickinson
As treasurer of Sherwood Hall, with being in charge of the halls’ finances, I would
communicate and consult with other members of the committee and residents to ensure
adequate and fair amounts are distributed evenly across the variety of Sherwood
activities and events. I would also be open to suggestions and welcome questions
throughout the year from the committee or residents on the allocation of finances. I
would ensure the Hall stuck to its budget and I would ensure I was prompt in the
production of any required financial records.
For 5 years I have volunteered as a ‘money mentor’ for the ‘Debt Advice Foundation’ and
involved myself in a scheme called ‘Debt Aware’ in which we teach students in primary
and secondary schools about money management, budgeting and types of payment.
From this voluntary work I have developed a good understanding of budgeting and
avoiding over-expenditure which will be necessary as treasurer. As a Law student I think
this position could be extremely beneficial to me and I believe I could take good control
and care of Sherwood Hall’s finances.
Emma Barnes
As role of treasurer in the hall committee I would be keen to get other students opinions
on how the money for the year should be spent, and how they think the budgeting
should be divided. I think this would make the hall inclusive as everyone would be able
to help decide what events throughout the year should be valued most, should they
wish to. This should hopefully ensure that everyone gets full enjoyment out of the variety
of different events throughout the year.
I think I would be a suitable candidate for Treasurer as I am currently studying
Economics and have also studied Maths A-level, so I have a good grasp of numeracy
and finances. Being able to manage and implement the year’s budget is something I
would find interesting and enjoy. Undertaking the role of Treasurer would also be useful
for my future career prospects, as I am currently considering a career in business
accounting/finances. I also believe that I am an approachable person with good
communication skills, qualities that would make me suitable for this role and allow me to
lease with the other members of the JCR committee effectively.
Activities Rep
Isobel Madle & Chloe Brown
If Chloe and I were elected, we would make use of the student bar to encourage
everyone in Sherwood to socialise more, especially with other and within their own
blocks. We would hold effective pre-drinks as well as non-alcoholic/non-clubbing events
to connect people with other similar interests- i.e. societies, international students;
providing movie nights, games nights etc.
We asked some of Sherwood why Chloe and I should be elected as social reps
"Because you both have really good eyebrows and you're really fun" Iman Mustafa
"You shouldn't. You really shouldn't, you'd be a fucking disaster" Freddie McLean
"Cos you'd make Sherwood social and you're wicked" Ellie Gomes-Callus/Emily Neill
"You're approachable and outgoing" Alex Parker
*laughs*- Haris Chaudry
Tallulah Moody
If I was elected activities rep for Sherwood, I would plan a wide array of events to cater
for all kinds of people, whether it be club nights, film nights or day events like BBQs. I
would also coordinate with the sports sec to create sport days between halls. I would
also like to organise socials between halls for a chance for our hall to meet new people
throughout the year.
I have previous experience in event organisation. In secondary school I was the charities
rep which meant I was in charge of planning events to raise money. This involved
coordinating with shops to sponsor our events and provide us with prizes and awards.
I'm a very fun and sociable person and look forward to getting to know all of you
throughout the year.
Sports Coordinator
Tomasco Cetto
The important thing is getting everybody involved. Making the hall sports teams as
inclusive and widespread as possible would be a priority. I'm already captain of the
basketball team and I would definitely do my best to get as many people involved as
many different sports as possible, entering teams in Sunday leagues, etc... That being
said sports doesn't always have to be competitive, so organising things like pool and
ping pong tournaments in the JCR, organising football matches in the park on Sunday or
even just getting people to come support the teams who are playing on Sunday would
be some of the things I'd like to achieve.
Having played many different sports throughout my life and just being a huge sports fan
in general, I really have a lot of ideas to make the sports experience for people in
Sherwood as good a possible, and getting us to be the best hall when it comes to
sports. I feel like people here are really keen on being part of the sports experience, so
there is definitely a lot to work with. I love to organise and help direct teams which is
why I readily accepted the position of basketball captain, and I'd definitely like to extend
that to the whole of the hall!

Encourage conversations and the building of new and old friendships between hall
members so that everyone feels that they are part of the hall.
Introduce occasional games nights and activities that are chosen by members of the Hall.
Make sure people have more of a say in what meals are on option.
Make the JCR a place that more people want to hang out in and spend time in, with
food and drinks.
I care lots about everyone, and want people to feel part of an extended family in
Sherwood Hall wherever they come from and whatever their personalities and hobbies.
I'm always happy for a chat and want people to feel that they can always chat about
anything at anytime with me.
I love having people chilling in my room, so please do come and visit D14 whenever!
Catherine Lee
Hold socials, and try to get everyone involved. Make sure that everyone is cared
and looked after for equally. Try and get girls as involved as the boys, especially
in Inter Hall Sports, creating more opportunities for them. Get things for the JCR
such as new pool cues and more activities. More laundry facilities.
Very good at getting my ideas across whilst also accepting of advice. Good
leader, and team player. Can listen to people’s needs well and make sure that
they get the support they need.
Madi Davis
I will provide advice, support and information to all women in Sherwood. I will work with
the activities and sports reps to ensure that there are events for everyone in the hall, and
will communicate to the committee the feedback from these events. I will ensure that the
committee run welfare campaigns and will promote key welfare services. I will be in
regular contact with the committee with any concerns that people have, and will be the
first person people can come to with any issues that they want the committee to discuss.
I will ensure there is a positive support network within Sherwood and that the
importance of women's welfare is integrated into all aspects of the committee.
I'm a 'people person' so love working with others. I would give everyone in halls my
phone number and email address so I would always be available to talk to if anyone had
any problems. My door will always be open if anyone wants a chat, and I would be
completely confidential about any matters that have been discussed. My top priority as
welfare rep will be ensuring the well-being of all women in Sherwood!
Ellie Gomes-Callus
A welfare rep should ensure all students have the best possible experience and wellbeing during their time in halls. I am approachable and easy going person that people
feel comfortable around. Not only will I work with and support the rest of the JCR
committee but I will make time and be ready to listen to anyone that needs it, whether it
be problems/issues that have could come up, ideas for our hall or just a chat.
My personality matches the qualities needed for this position and I will do a decent job
of it.
Hanna Lidbetter
Organise events in the evenings and on weekends in the JCR plus trips to town and
other venues to ensure the whole hall bonds together as well as possible. Events could
include parties, fun days, games nights, pizza nights, movie nights, quizzes and even
extend to whole hall nights out.
I'm a really friendly, approachable person who enjoys talking to others and meeting new
people. How other people are getting on has always been important to me and I would
love to get involved in making sure everyone has a good year here together. I listen to
people's opinions, ideas and feedback when involved in any situation and have worked
well in teams like this before. I think it's also a great opportunity for me to expand on
the people I know in Sherwood already and would love to help build a friendly and
inclusive atmosphere for everyone.
Maria-Rose Nedic
I would try to get everyone enveloped through fun welfare activities to get everyone
together and create a family vibe at Sherwood.
I am a happy, outgoing, fun person whom I think people would be comfortable speaking
with, and i love working with people.
Natalie (Won Yin Lam)
As a potential Welfare Rep, I understand that it may be sometimes difficult to be
inclusive due to cultural differences and language barriers. To help people come
together, my duties will not only be limited to organizing and attending social events
but playing an active role during events in aiding all and any students, in overcoming the
language barrier that is preventing them in making all the possible close friends they can
have, no matter the ethnicity or religion.
In addition, I aim to make student-counselling services a well-known option to everyone
living in halls. Whether they're homesick, stressed or worried they might not have
anyone to sit with during meals, I want to be the person that can help them and prevent
them from feeling neglected from the community.
During my time studying A-Levels in a school in York, I have been chosen for the
position Co-Head of College. This was a role that has given me responsibilities over the
welfare of all students in college. It included organising social activities such as annual
Christmas dinner, movie nights, Chinese New Year Celebrations and much more. I was
also a good listener and friend to those who required my advice and assistance. My time
there further developed my time management, collaboration, problem-solving and
organisation skills, so that I am well prepared to bring my contribution to the community
to a larger scale; University.
Ellie Cooper
Some outgoing people don't struggle with making friends but others do, so we need to
bring people out of their shell, bring them together, and make university and living in
halls fun for everyone. Even though there are social nights out, going out and drinking
isn't everyone's thing. We could organise themed nights, game nights, film nights, sports
events, quiz nights etc, a range of different activities so that there's something for
everyone to get involved with.
Inter-block tournaments would be a way of getting people to mingle with other blocks,
or even meet the people in their own block if they haven't had a chance to get to know
them yet.
The people that need to feel included the most are those living away from home in a
foreign country. Encouraging international students to take part in the various activities
would help to make them feel more at home.
I feel like I am someone that anyone can come to with an issue. I am a very open person
who people feel comfortable talking to about anything. Since moving into Sherwood I
have tried my best to make sure people feel included if they're by themselves by talking
to them.
I think I'm outgoing and friendly and would like to have the opportunity to make sure
everyone is enjoying their uni experience and no one feels lonely.
I would also encourage students to ask any question anonymously, all of which (funny,
serious or otherwise) must be read out and answered (if possible) during a mealtime.
Alexandra Parker
I would make sure there is something on offer for everyone no matter what their
interests are, integrate blocks so it's a more communal environment.
I am an approachable person and easy to talk to and understanding. I am also
understanding and confident.

Recognising the need for everyone's interests to be catered for, I would work on
organising social events for everyone, such as films nights, inter-hall sports events, as
well as club nights. I would also create Formals that would be the envy of the other halls.
I would also make sure to cater for people's welfare needs by making sure that they are
aware of the people who are there for them, and making sure that my own door is
always open to people who need to air their grievances, or just need someone to talk to.
I love to organise events, and I am an approachable person. I listen to what people want
and would make sure that everyone in the hall was taken into account when making
decisions. I'm a reliable and responsible person and a hard worker, so I would always get
the job done.
Vallrie Agrawall
In a hall with an occupancy of 200 people, I will try my best to make the atmosphere
lively for everyone. Firstly, I would like all students living at Southwell to let me
personally know any discomfort they are facing which they may be more comfortable in
discussing with a fellow student rather than the tutors. Keeping in mind that living in
student accommodations should be a memorable experience for everyone, I'll organize
movie hours and other recreational activities for those who want to stay at home on
weekends and relax in the JCR. Not forgetting about noisy halls during exam time, I will
keep in mind the necessity for silence in the corridors and help the tutors maintain the
same during study hours. I will keep improving my agendas as per suggestions given by
everyone to make the experience at Southwell an inclusive one!
I would request everyone staying at Southwell Hall to vote for me because I will not only
do my best to make your experience inclusive but also cooperate with your wishes at all
times. For me, doing this work is more of a team effort and then individual because it is
200 of us living together. Moreover, having previous experience in leadership activities, I
will be able to put in my best effort.
Drishti Jain
As a leading global University, Nottingham has a diverse student body with students
hailing from across the world. With this in mind, to make the hall experience an inclusive
one, I would strategize to bridge these cultures and synergise students. To make this
possible, I would firstly organise more social events. Themed nights such as Mexican and
Arabian Nights are effective ways to enable students to become more culturally aware
and acknowledge other peers. Formal dinners and monthly get-togethers are also a
great way to do so. Another way to make this experience an inclusive and memorable
one would be by hearing the voice of the students on a monthly basis. I would, along
with the committee, go to each individual on a monthly basis and ask them for their
feedback. On a bi-annual basis, I would host and encourage panellist and students to
express their views. This would be a great way for me to implement and make their voice
heard.
Coming from India and the Emirates, both meccas and melting points of diversity and
globalisation, I have developed and learnt the importance of adapting and adjusting. As
a result, I will be able to help my peers and understand them personally. Not only that, I
have also developed interpersonal and communicative skills and have learnt its
significance while living in a global thriving community such as Southwell's. As a Senior
House Captain for Secondary School Students at my high school, I have also developed
management skills and tolerance. Managing about 800 students coming from different
backgrounds was certainly not easy. But by involving them as a team and unity we made
it possible. We won the "Best House" Award. I believe if I get this opportunity, I would
too want to unite students and I would strive to make it the best experience by involving
Hall Committee Members and all the residents.

I would ensure all students are happy and welcomed in the hall, and provide friendly
face to talk to. I would like to help establish a positive community where students feel
comfortable around each other. I would organise different activities, so that there would
be something to suit everyone, and a chance for everyone to socialise. I am sure
Southwell is already aware that I drink due to me roaming the corridors at 3am
confused, but I understand some people do not drink, and there should be an
opportunity for them to socialise too. I believe that everyone should have a say, and that
there should be no discrimination or isolation of any of the students. Living in halls can
definitely be interesting and everyone should have someone they can go to when they
have a problem, no matter how big or small.
I would like to be able to take on this role to help others. I am quite a sociable person
and would love to take part in a variety of activities and ensure students are having a
good time during their stay at Southwell. I've always been fortunate to have someone to
talk to at school/college, and my appreciation for that support makes me want to take
on this role myself. I would also try and stop those annoying leaflets being posted under
our doors everyday by scaring the perpetrators off! I also make good cups of tea and
can provide a shoulder to cry on when people are upset or homesick. I can provide lots
of lols and bantz to cheer people up but on a more serious note I would love to be
elected for this role to support and develop the Southwell.
Aasheesh Srinivasan
If I do get elected as the female Welfare Representative for Southwell Hall, I'd do my
best to hear and listen to every single person's problems, communicate it to the other
authorities and ensure that the problem is sorted out at the earliest. I'd treat all
problems fairly and equally to the best of my abilities and not be partial to anyone. I
really love listening and helping people and I’m a social person out so it’ll be the perfect
responsibility for me. I’d take the opportunity, if given, to do the best I can for the Hall
and work with the other JCR Committee members to ensure everyone has a fun filled
and comfortable year in Southwell Hall. It’ll be a memorable year.
I'm a good listener and a very social person. Being easily approachable is one of my
strengths and I'm always willing to help people out with anything they'd need. I love
being given responsibilities and I'll ensure to the best of my abilities that everyone
staying in Southwell has a good time and ensure that any of their issues are answered at
the earliest. So whether it’s about food or noisy corridors or movie nights for the hall or
if you just need to talk to someone, I’d love to be your person. I love talking and
interacting with people, I’m good at networking, socialising.

International Rep
Jahanvi Goyal
Fortunately or unfortunately, my Fresher's Week has taught me a lot. The kind of
setbacks some international students feel when they come to a differently cultured
country, the adjustment issues with the lifestyle and the place, how to get over the social
barriers and make friends etc. What I have realized is that it is extremely important to be
with people of different ethnicity to get the best of the 3 years here and hence if I
become the International Rep, I will make sure the international students get to know
each other, that I am at their comfort as much as possible when a problem comes up,
and the international barriers are let down.
As a student, I have went for scholarship programs to both US and Germany. I have
been put into situations with international students where it becomes so awkward, but to
rise above the hesitance is the challenge. Basically, having been in the same shoes, I
know what we international students feel and think and experience when talking or
eating or chilling with locals or other students from abroad. Hence, I am certain I'll be
able to produce more practical answers to any related questions. I was also the Director
Publications of my school and Editor of school magazine so exhibited leadership skills
there.
Tawfiq Abu-Khajil
Hey Guys, I hope I met most of you, but this is pretty what I will be doing if you elect
me as your International representative. I would pretty much make sure everyone is
enjoying their time in the halls and everyone is feeling comfortable, especially
international students as it is sometimes hard to be so far away from home. I will also
ensure that all international students are meeting new people all around campus and
making new friends. I will also assist all students, especially students who are 2nd
language English speakers, in anything they need around campus like where there
lectures are, how to use the buses, and much more. And to conclude, I will be
representing the views and needs of international students to the rest of the JCR
committee to ensure that events and activities meet their needs.
Hey guys, As you all know I'm running for the International representative position, and I
hope you all give me your trust and vote for me.
I would like to say that I'm usually a social person who likes to meet new people and
make new friends, I also like helping people, especially ones that are having a hard time
at university.
As I am an international student, I think this position would fit me best, as I will make
sure all international students are enjoying their time here at university. I will try my best
in making this year a great one for all students here at Southwell, making sure everyone
gets to know each other and everyone makes new friends, no matter where they come
from.
I will be delivering all International students' opinions and sayings to the JCR committee
and I will make sure things get done for you.
Thank you

I'd create events often that are suitable for a wide range of interests! Examples of this
could be group movie nights and party's on the knoll!
Elect me as president because it will give me a great platform to meet new people and
be able to gather mad consolidate many people’s views.
Aaren Smith
The way I would make the hall experience an inclusive one would be to make the knoll a
more social area where everyone will be able to access, more social events throughout
the year and friendly atmosphere around SPC.
Hold fortnightly meetings where everyone is welcome to discuss any issues they have
had and to be more seen/known around SPC so that living in SPC becomes more
enjoyable.
Richard Debrah
What would you do to make the hall experience an inclusive one?- I would try and unite
the new and old block more. This could be done by having more events in the courtyard
in the new block. By doing this students from the old block would come over and
socialise in a different environment and hopefully meet new people. Also I would
organise inter-block activities, competitions and quizzes. This would allow students to get
to know their block mates better as well as meeting new people in a fun and friendly
competitive environment.
What else would you like to share about why you should be elected?- I would consider
myself a friendly sociable person. I feel that my experience in playing rugby for 7 years
has given me some valuable skills, such as leadership, discipline, teamwork and
motivating others. I believe that these skills are very important when give a position of
responsibility. I have confidence that I will be able to listen to other student’s problems
and hopefully find a solution, and optimistically help to provide a better environment for
future students at St Peters Court.

I would ensure that regular activities are held throughout the year that include everyone
in the halls which are themed. For instance, a Halloween party event, Bonfire night,
Christmas and then other trips that students can vote on.
I have held numerous roles of responsibility in sixth form. For instance, I was a form
mentor and peer mentor so I met with a form class and single student on a weekly basis
to provide support and advice which improved my communication and confidence skills.
Moreover, I took part in Young Enterprise where I was in the finance team so am used to
dealing with keeping track of income and expenditure statements as well as
communicating them clearly to others; as I did at the regional competition in front of
200+ people and to the managing director individually. Furthermore, the analysis skills I
developed during A Level Mathematics and History will allow me to put forward
structured and logical arguments to any meetings we have as a committee as well as
being able to make balanced and informed decisions as a Treasurer.
Activities Rep

To make the hall experience more inclusive if I am elected as social rep, I plan to put
together loads of events throughout the year to make SPC feel more like home - firstly, I
would like to organise more subject orientated events within SPC (e.g a night out just for
history students), so people are able to meet other people on their course within the
accommodation. I would also like to make the common spaces like reception and the
knoll more friendly and inviting, particularly by organising more events there, aiming for
at least once a week. Some of my ideas include setting up a projection movie theatre on
the knoll or having weekly pre-drink seshes (with free mixer of course!) - but I would
take an online vote at the start of the year so everyone's ideas are included, so no need
to worry if you don't drink!
I consider myself to be a very proactive and social person - having gone to all the nights
out in fresher’s and experiencing it to the full I can definitely see what was good and
what needs improvement. Having previously been voted social secretary for my sixth
form committee I have a lot organisational experience and a honed instinct for a good
night out! I really feel I've settled into SPC this year and defend it to the grave when
anyone from a catered hall makes a snobby remark about how far away it is - I would
love to represent you guys and make it an even better place to be. SPC love!

The need for increased collaboration and synergy across all continents and countries of
the world cannot be overemphasised as we now live in a global village. The Post
graduate experience provides a rare opportunity to network with people from a diverse
array of cultures, however there seems to be a disconnect between the postgraduates in
St. Peters Court. My aim will be to create a forum where post graduates students can
interact creatively to foster cultural integration and possibilities of future collaboration.
I believe in the limitless potential of the human being. I am able to identify innate
qualities and possibilities in individuals and motivate them to excel.

I believe our hall needs to become a more environmentally friendly area, including
available bins outside near the benches to avoid littering and more education on
separating recycling in the bins in our homes. In addition, we live very close to a micro
habitat of ducks along the river; people should be educated about what they need as
the ducks often get fed food that can be harmful to them, eg bread.
Also, with the view that everyone is equal, halls need to impose strict rules of respect
and anti-bullying schemes to ensure everyone can live in St. Peters Court in harmony.
I was on the eco schools committee in my school for 7 years and managed, with my
team to gain the green flag award 4 consecutive years. We made many changes to the
school which encouraged a more environmental conscious mind to many.
I was also part of the student council for 2 years and worked on the anti-bullying
scheme and other interschool events which brought the entire school together.

I would hold plenty of casual gatherings, for example, film, acoustic and pub quiz nights
because I feel these events bring people together in a relaxed environment.
I would embrace the diversity of the campus by holding events which involve more
groups like the LGBT society, the Christian Union, and the International Students SB
network, as I think they are not fully acknowledged and people may be missing out.
At difficult times of the year, particularly exams, I would emphasise the presence of
resources available to students which highlight mental health and well-being.
Sutton Bonington is in a great position in that we are able to hold campus-wide events
at which people can de-stress, so I would increase the number of such events to
celebrate the end of difficult periods.
I would ensure that everyone’s voices are heard by Sodexo and CLV so that the campus
is comfortable for all.
Honestly, (without trying to sound cheesy) Sutton Bonington is my home. From the first
day I set foot on campus, I have loved every moment, from the crazy bar nights to the
mad rush to finish coursework.
As a second year who chose to live on campus again, I know all the ins and outs of life
at SB. I know what may need to be improved, what events should be repeated, and I
know that living in a supportive environment is essential for when the hype of Fresher’s
is over.
Our time at university is precious and finite, which is why I believe we should make the
most of it - if I could improve anyone’s experience of Sutton Bonington with my friendly
and approachable nature and my limitless enthusiasm, I would be very happy.
Scarlett Holman
Sutton Bonington's campus size and facilities means that we are lying in a goldmine for
a brilliant and united community- one that is accommodating and generally fun! If I were
to be elected I want Sutton Bonington to be known as the place to be across the whole
university. I would like to treble the events and 'nights' hosted by the campus- a means
of bringing all houses at Bonington together (from zouch to Grimesmould..sorry
Wymsewold!). And these so called events are the perfect way to spread the word and
support issues which I feel very strongly about such as mental health awareness and the
HeforShe campaign. I speak as a student who wants to have a wild time at university as
well as someone who fights hard for I believe is the right thing to do- And therefore I
feel this is why I would make a decent candidate for Bonington Hall president.
Although SB is quite the place to be, I do have many ideas of how the student
experience could possibly be improved.
I've noticed that there is quite a large music scene across campus and so would love to
see the Barn used as a venue for up & coming bands from across the country- After all
UoN have come up with such delights as London Grammar and Amber Run! ALSO if
Queen Margaret’s University (Don't worry I've barely heard of it either) can host George
Ezra and Twin Atlantic then we must be able to get someone! This probably seems like a
longshot, but I would also like to work with the Hopperbus service to improve the
connections to Nottingham and U.P- especially at night time. Even if there is just one
service a night (e.g 3AM) coming from the city centre to SB then this will completely
transform the student experience here- for socializing with the rest of the university and
providing a cheap & safe way of returning home.
I have so much more ideas- If elected, I am committed to providing a voice for all
students and am prepared to get involved (at any cost!) to improve every residents lives
staying in Bonington Hall.
Dylan Jones
With Bonington Halls being the biggest and most spread out halls, it is really important
to make the campus as inclusive and integrated as possible; from Thrumpton and Eviton,
to Barton and St. Michaels Flats.
Firstly to make the campus as cohesive as possible would like to organise inter-house
sports, competitions, or games. For example, inter house badminton, a bake off, or some
board games, to name a few small ideas.
Secondly, I, like everyone else, really enjoyed the live GBBO showing in The Barn. I would
love to have some more similar events, such as the Apprentice final, and if there’s
sufficient interest, a regular film night.
Thirdly I would try to further integrate our campus with the main university campus. By
co-hosting some of our legendary events or making our awesome societies more open
to UP residents, I think we can boost the profile of our amazing campus.
I should be elected to serve as hall president because I will effectively argue for you and
support you. I am a good communicator and if you came to me with a problem, I would
always do what I could to help.
As one of my main goals I would like to try and work with Sodexo in a capacity to better
serve the people who for a particular reason, such as a sporting commitment, society, or
lecture, are not able to attend the evening meal.
As most people living here are on the part catered meal plan, and many people have
commitments that mean they cannot be available for the time slot of tea, I would try to
find a solution that provided good value for money for those people. (I would also try
and solve the north-south tea/dinner conflict of what we call the evening meal.
Alex Clare
As hall president I would go round the students in my halls and speak to them, get to
know them and ask what events / activities they would like to be organised, as well as
hosting more events to promote hall interaction. This would help create a more diverse
and inclusive university experience for all students. Another one of my aims would be to
ensure that any problems brought to me by the students would be resolved efficiently
and effectively as possible. Finally I want to ensure that all the students have the best
experience they can while in halls and all their expectations are met by me and my
fellow guild members.
I am also a very enthusiastic and motivated member of the student body. I feel I would
make a very approachable hall president as I am a fun loving person as I have shown
during my role as a welcome mentor, but also have a serious side and like to get the job
done. As a member of the scout association I also have great leadership and
communication skills to be able to liaise with the guild, Sodexo and CLV to make
campus life as amazing as possible.

Hannah-Marie Roberts
I believe that living in halls is a wonderful opportunity to meet different people of a
variety of interests from all corners of the world. I would do my very best to ensure that
there was events, activities and communities for everyone within Willoughby Hall and
between other campus communities, working with other teams to ensure that no-one
ever feels alone. The best way of going about this, I think, is to find out the opinions of
the people we are living in a community with to make it as inclusive as possible. The
next step is to turn those thoughts and requests into actions.
Leadership, I believe, is not about being in charge. In fact, being a leader is to be a
reliable support base, a listening ear and the voice of a collective community. My
experiences in leadership have helped me to realise that it is a skill that you have to
work constantly at and strive to do your best in all that you are asked to do and so
much more. Before arriving at Nottingham, I was elected Chairman of my local Youth
Council for 4 years and helped our team to raise £300,000 in 3 months as the voice of
the young people in our area. This experience, I believe will help me to use my
leadership skills to help make living in Willoughby Hall the best experience for everyone.
Thomas Penkethman
Create events not based solely around the drinking culture to make everyone included
and to try to instil a team spirit that makes everyone feel proud to be a part of the
Willoughby family and make members from other halls jealous that they weren't lucky
enough to be a part of it. Also, bringing the sofas back to C and D floor to add extra
comfortable space for socialising.
As someone who lived in the halls back in 2011/2012 I understand the importance of the
committee and the affect that they can have on your enjoyment for the year.
Osawese
In order to make everyone enjoy their first year in the hall I will ensure that several
events within the hall will be available. This would be to allow people within our hall to
get to know each other a lot more and discover those who are much like themselves.
This doesn't have to be just from going out but also much more relaxed events. My aim
is to make everyone feel comfortable and happy. Also if anyone was to have concerns I
would help them voice their opinions as everyone deserves to enjoy our hall.
I would like to be elected because I like to consider myself a relaxed and heart warming
individual. I feel over the last few weeks I have got to know many people among the hall
which I have enjoyed. I want to be able to represent our hall and ensure everyone has a
comfortable experience. Truth be told, I did struggle at uni at first as it felt so much
different to what I was used to and I didn't know if I could do it, but now thanks to the
friends I've made and the kind people I have met I know longer feel that way. As
president I would go out my way to make sure no one has those ill feelings and to make
sure this would be a year they wouldn't forget.
Felicity Goldsack
One of the best things about uni and living in halls is that you get to meet loads of new
people, but after the first few weeks, people tend just to stick with those living on their
corridor. I would love to organise more events within halls such as movie or quiz nights
where people can get together and interact on a more personal level throughout the
year rather than just at the very beginning or only a few times at formal events. I also
think it would be great to have some floor v floor competitions, so that everyone gets to
know the people around them, as well as getting to meet people from other floors.
I was Debating Captain at school and really enjoyed getting to know everyone and
making sure that everyone was getting the most out of their experience in that. It also
taught me a lot about the responsibility of having a role like this, but I really enjoyed it
and would love to become more involved in running the hall. I’d love to take on the
challenge of the role of President and be able to help run the JCR and make it a great
year for everyone. I’m committed to making time for dealing with any problems or
concerns that anyone might have and I enjoy meeting and working with new people
which would be a big part of being on the JCR.
Cassandra Blackburn
To make the hall experience an inclusive one, I would aim to organise events that cater
to all preferences. Of course there needs to be plenty of fun nights out organised in
town for those who enjoy going out, but I would also aim to organise lots of activities
for those who aren’t so keen on that, such as movie nights, or BBQ days in the summer.
I very much would want to make sure there’s something for everyone! Plus, I would want
everyone in Willoughby to feel that they can have a say about what happens here and
can suggest any ideas they want to, from event ideas to general day to day ideas about
how Willoughby is run. So, I would want to put in place an anonymous suggestions box
in the main entrance that would be checked regularly so all possible suggestions can
hopefully be materialised!
I believe I should be elected because I definitely have the key qualities needed for the
role as I was Head Girl at my secondary school and so I have; good leadership skills, I
have experience in organisation such as putting together events like the end of year
prom and ordering in all the leavers hoodies, I have confidence in voicing my opinions
and I am also very good at listening to others suggestions so that decisions can be
made that benefit everyone. I also think I should be elected because I’m very sociable
and outgoing and enjoy meeting new people, and as President, I would be constantly
around others, which is an environment I thrive in! I want everyone to have the best first
year and the best experience of Willoughby that they possibly can do and I would very
much make that my goal as President.
Jessica Marshall
As President of Willoughby Halls, I'd organise various events in order to promote
bonding of the floors - I get the impression that most students tend to stick to a group
of their respective floor, whilst I feel it would be beneficial to participate in 'inter-floor'
games, sports or even a simple gathering for lunch/ dinner somewhere outside of halls.
Additionally, I would seek to assist the other committee members in the promotion of
Hall events throughout the year, whether it be the International Rep organising an
intercultural event, or the Environmental Rep. planning a group-targeted clean-up.
I believe that I would provide a (rather loud) and effective voice on behalf of the
Willoughby Hall residents, presenting their concerns to the committee to be addressed
accordingly. I would regard myself as an approachable and personable individual, and
therefore feel that students would feel comfortable coming to me with their queries. I
also thoroughly love helping out in general and organising in any way that I can!
Vice President
Shaurav Khanna
Ensure that there is equal representation across all members of the hall.
Organise social events that would appeal to all members of the hall.
Hold meetings with other student representatives, to discuss any problems or concerns
that the student body had and rectify them to the best of my ability, and if not pass
them on to be resolved.
As a person with a strong character, excellent leadership skills and organisational skills,
developed from my time as a non-commissioned officer within the Army Cadet Force, i
feel that i have the key attributes to assist in the leaderships and development of
Willoughby Hall over the next year.
Treasurer

Ciaran Quinlan
Firstly, I would raise the issue of limited social areas on each floor. Introducing some
furniture to the unused spaces outside the corridors would create dedicated social areas
instead of the current exclusive means of socialising in rooms. Secondly I would
encourage people to consider hall sports teams as I believe it is an effective way to meet
like-minded people who live on different floors/blocks therefore bringing the hall much
closer together. Lastly, it is important to cater to everyone’s interests; my friends and I
enjoying going on nights out and would be enthusiastic about inclusive Willoughby
nights out however for those who do not enjoy clubs it is important to provide social
activities for them also. These could include pool competitions, movie nights and
outings. This provides everyone with the opportunity to meet new people with the same
interests or alternatively to discover new interests through meeting new people.
I enjoy meeting new people in the hall and therefore feel that I will be an effective
means of bringing people’s ideas from much of Willoughby to the attention of the JCR.
Specific to the position of Treasurer, I have huge enthusiasm to learn how one handles
budgets and want to participate as an active member. The elected JCR members will be
a team and I have great interpersonal qualities which allow me to work effectively with
new people and also to maintain relationships. These have been honed by my
employment at the Clumber Park Hotel where I work as waiting, bar, barista and
wedding staff with a large team of people which presents me with varied opportunities
for team development such as organising events, motivating colleagues and coaching
newcomers. I am a positive, sociable and professional individual and I would be an asset
to the JCR as the treasurer.
Activities Rep
Sarah Raymond
I would make sure that there is variety in the types of events that are organised, so that
there are both events in the day and nights out. Also I would ensure that there are
events organised for people who don't want to drink or go out clubbing, so that
everyone feels like they can take part in hall socials. I would make sure that people have
their say on the kinds of events that they would be interested in and take it on board
when organising events so that everyone can enjoy their experience to the maximum.
For example, asking people to fill in a questionnaire or come and talk to me about what
they would like to do.
I would really enjoy the experience of being an Activities Rep because I love to organise
events and get people involved. Also I was the Senior May Ball Prefect in my secondary
school, which involved planning the school prom and formal Christmas dinner, so I have
experience working with others to organise events. I am approachable and friendly so
people would feel like they could come and talk to me about event ideas or details, and
I am also hard-working and conscientious. I would love to have the opportunity to
contribute to university life and help make everyone have a memorable and fun time in
Willoughby Hall.
Sports Coordinator
George Cairns
Sport is a great way to engage everyone in the hall, in either a competitive way or in a
fun way sport is a great platform to make friends and have an amazing time.
I feel that the IMS system is an brilliant opportunity and I would push to get Willoughby
represented in as many sports as possible to give people the opportunity to try some
new sports.
I also have lots of ideas about fun things that I could organise in the hall such as:
pool/tennis tournaments, sports day with fun and games, and a varsity sports
competition between the extension block and the main building.
I am strongly believe that sport is a vital part of university life. Whether that is at an elite
level representing the university or trying a sport for the very first time.
Personally I have A good grounding in UoN sports this year, I am in both teams
representing the university and IMS teams, as well as being part of a number of different
clubs.
I feel that I am a well organised, easy going, and approachable so would be a great
admission to the Willoughby JCR.
