the most vulnerable in our community for years to come.

Plaza Roberto Maestas
P
laza Roberto Maestas is a mixed-use affordable
housing development located directly south of El
Centro de la Raza’s historic schoolhouse building,
and adjacent to the Beacon Hill light rail station. Plaza
Roberto Maestas will help carry out our mission by providing
housing that is affordable for working families, located in
Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood – close to transportation,
jobs and quality education.
Plaza Roberto Maestas will help reduce unemployment by
creating 40 permanent jobs and 150 construction-related
jobs during development. The Plaza will also support micro-
businesses and entrepreneurs. Six to eight micro-retail vendor
carts at affordable rental rates will provide micro-business
opportunities and up to five indoor retail spaces will be
geared toward the small business owner, while El Centro de
la Raza’s Business Opportunity Center will provide business
management support.
Mil gracias to all those who have donated and supported Plaza
Roberto Maestas. Your contributions will help us further
develop the programs and services that will strengthen our
neighborhood and community members.
Help Build a Community Brick by Brick
B
uy a plaza brick to support the construction
of Plaza Roberto Maestas, and help to
provide housing that’s affordable for working
families, quality early childhood education, a multicultural community gathering space, and economic
opportunities.
Your brick and your unique message will become a
permanent part of the central plaza – the heart of Plaza
Roberto Maestas. Help us build a community Brick by
Brick! Go to www.plazarobertomaestas.org to order

Youth Job Readiness Training Program Prepares Teen
R
aquel began participating in El Centro de la
Raza’s Youth Job Readiness Training (YJRT) Program
in August 2012. When Raquel
first came to El Centro de la
Raza, she was very quiet and
reserved, keeping her ideas
to herself and steering clear
of many activities. However,
YJRT coordinator Cristina
Jimenez noticed in her meetings with Raquel that Raquel
had great ideas and a desire
to participate more. Cristina’s
guidance helped Raquel to
begin to vocalize her ideas,
share her talents and skills,
and participate more actively
in group projects and events.
Raquel’s growth could not
have come at a better time, as
her family came upon serious
harship when her parents were
injured in a car accident and
forced to stop working. Raquel
used the skills and confidence
she gained through the YJRT
program to secure part-time
employment to help her family through this time. Raquel’s
senior year of high school was
tumultuous as she balanced
helping her family with completing her school work.
Raquel’s incredible hard work
and perseverance however
brought a triumphant end
to the 2014 school year. She
received her high school
diploma from Franklin High
School! Raquel’s parents
slowly returned to work, and
Raquel was able to apply to
local colleges to continue her
education.

Capital Improvements
We have raised 97% of the funding needed to complete the
$45M for the Plaza Roberto Maestas project.
