State of the District - Mansfield Independent School District
MANSFIELD INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
2016 - 2017 S T A T E O F T H E D I S T R I C T
Superintendent State of the District Message
Welcome to the start of a wonderful school year at Mansfield ISD—a great place to live, learn
and teach. This year, I am especially excited about all the programs and initiatives that will be
introduced for the benefit of our students.
As you may have heard, the MISD Fine Arts Department launched its new orchestra program. The
program begins this year with our fifth graders, and we will expand orchestra by a grade level each
year until we have a full orchestra program in MISD.
We also continue to be fully invested in our academics with the hiring of new instructional coaches
to support advanced academics, gifted and talented instruction, literacy, and early childhood
education.
Another big initiative I am enthusiastic about is Vision 2020, the district’s new strategic plan
for 2016-2021. Vision 2020 defines the school district’s mission, vision, and core values; and its
guiding statements provide clear focus for improvement. This plan will help drive our district to
greater heights.
Our mission is “to inspire and educate students to be productive citizens.” This means that we
prepare all of our students to succeed after graduation in their college or career path.
MISD’s vision is to be “a destination district committed to excellence.” We want to always strive to
be the best of the best and settle for nothing less in all areas of what we do.
.
The values MISD upholds to achieve this are: students first, continuous improvement, integrity,
communication, positive relationships and resiliency.
Please take time to browse through the pages ahead to gain a better understanding of why
Mansfield ISD is a highly sought after district. We look forward to another school year filled with
our students’ outstanding achievements and accomplishments.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Vaszauskas
Superintendent of Schools
Board President State of the District Message
On behalf of the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees, I am honored to be able to serve the
community and ensure that MISD continues to be a great place to live, learn and teach.
We are a district of innovation, meaning that we are able to be more flexible and create
opportunities for our students to better serve them. Our goal is to always put children first.
Mansfield ISD hires educators who are dedicated to their calling, and each staff member works
tirelessly to fulfill their part of the education process. We are truly blessed and grateful as a
district for that.
I am thrilled to see what is in store for the upcoming school year because our students and staff
keep raising the bar in academics, athletics and fine arts. Here’s to another year filled with
continued success!
Sincerely,
Raul Gonzalez
Mansfield ISD School Board President

Mansfield ISD remains committed to providing an innovative and engaging learning environment for all students. Through the MISD iPad initiative, our Ed Tech training courses,
and a vast amount of technology available at the campus level, the district is truly providing
students with a 21st century learning environment.
The Mansfield ISD Power Up Program continues to be recognized as an Apple Distinguished
Program for its groundbreaking use of innovative and inspiring teaching methods. The
district’s program launched in the fall semester of 2012, with the distribution of more than
10,000 iPads to MISD high school teachers and students and has since expanded to include
more than 4,500 iPad devices for middle school students. The Apple Distinguished Program
designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.
The Technology Department also updated the internet bandwidth to accommodate all
devices throughout the district. To ensure student and faculty safety, the district has installed
telephones in every classroom so that teachers and staff have an easily accessible means of
communication with campus leadership and the Mansfield ISD Police Department. MISD has
also updated the district’s 911 alert system, which alerts the MISD Police Department when
a 911 call is made within the district and allows them to tap into the call and get the information faster, thus ensuring the quickest response time possible.

which gave parents and community members an opportunity to
come into the district and learn all about the inner workings of
