REGIONAL DIRECTOR ELECTIONS
Board of Directors Election Schedule
BTW Board is made up of 10 Directors; 9 regions are in the USA and Canada and the final one covers all
areas outside of the USA & Canada. Each Region has a Regional Director. The Regional Directors serve on
the Board of Directors. The Board makes decisions regarding the running of BTW. Each Regional Director is
elected for a three-year term by the Directors in their Regions. If your Regional Director is not participating in
the Board Meetings or being in touch with the Directors in their region, it is up to the membership to request
them to step down and have them replaced. The Regions are set out on the Contact pages. For more info,
contact Headquarters.
Election schedule is as follows:
2015: Regions 1, 4, 7, and 10
2016: Regions 2, 5, 8
2014: Regions 3, 6, 9
Board of Directors Elections 2014
If you are a member living in Regions 3, 6 or 9 here is something to think about. Your representative on the
BOD is up for re-election during 2014. If you want more info about being a Regional Director and what it
entails, contact your current regional Director or HQ and ask them what they do.
BTW Regional Directors Elections 2014
This year it is the turn of Regions 3, 6 & 9 to vote on the person to represent them on the BTW Board of
Directors for the next 3 years, so if you are a member in those areas this concerns you. At the moment your
directors are
Kathryn Henry, Area 3;
Open, Area 6;
Jack Mertes, Area 9;
The current representative for Regions 3 Kathryn Henry and Region 9 Jack Mertes are prepared to stand for
another 3 years if no-one else volunteers and you would like them to do so, but Region 6 is currently open and
needs a volunteer.
(We, Shaun & Jackie, Region 10 Directors, are the election committee responsible for these elections. )
If you read the BTW bylaws you will find all info regarding membership of the Board of Directors in Article V.
Section 5.04 Qualifications states: any member not suspended or revoked, in good standing for the most recent
two (2) years, residing within the Region, and as otherwise provided by the directors, is eligible to be elected as
the Regional director and Section 5.05 nominations states: nominations for Regional Director shall be made to
the State/Area director who shall present the nominations to the elections Committee for screening prior to being
placed on the ballot.
If you have been a member for the last 2 years, and feel you would like to be considered for one of these posts
get in touch with your State/Area Director with a short resume and a photo showing why you think you should
be considered as soon as possible so that details can be passed on to us, the election committee. Our email is
[email protected] if you wish to contact us direct as well as contacting your State/Area Director. Once we’ve
received all nominations, if there is more than one nomination for any Region, the details will be forwarded onto
the State Directors in that region for the vote.
The closing date for nominations is MARCH 31 to allow time for Chapter Directors in these regions to
discuss this with their members. BTW has great plans for the future and really need people on the Board who
are able to pass on these exciting ideas to all the members. Have fun and keep safe.
Shaun & Jackie Lloyd (HT & Mrs HT), BTW B.O.D. Election Committee.

Meetings: 1st Tuesday each month, VFW Hall, Saraland, AL,
Hwy 43 - 6 pm
News: Right now we are into our Mardi Gras season and
having a wonderful time. A few members (me included are
working on our trikes) so are not able to ride but we are
cheering on the ones that can. In Mobile, AL the weather
does not always want to co-operate, some days it’s nice and
warm, others cold and windy. But we go on with the show
as they say. Anytime some of you’ll want to come down to
join us in the parades contact us and we will be happy to
give you all the info, time etc. We would like to ask for more
prayers for Yogie, he is greatly improving but still a ways to
go before full recovery. We are all looking forward to him
getting back to riding his trike again. 18

beside some sun burns. Hats off to Jack & Jackie and
everybody that helped. For those that live in the Mohave

Meetings: Meetings second Sunday of each month, Location
varies, contact director for info.
News: It is the New Year. We have had some unusually
pleasant weather here in the southwest and have been able
to get some riding in. However, our first planned ride was
cancelled due to some much-needed rain. We did however
hold our monthly meeting. We celebrated some milestones
in March. One of our newer members, Lloyd (Jonesey) Jones
celebrated his 65th birthday. Two of our other members also
celebrated. Jim (Gypsy) Reed turned 80 and Bill (C-Major)
Reed hit the 85th mark. These guys know what it is all about
to be free on three. None of them miss many rides. Weather
permitting; we will have a ride and meeting next month.
Our group is already planning some rides over the summer
riding season. A two-day ride on old Route 66 and a five-day
ride to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon are in the works.
If anyone will be out west, contact me for dates and places.
The Region 9 Run in Laughlin will be over by the time this is
continued . . . . .
published. Our group will be well represented and I am sure
it was a rousing success. The next run in AZ is the Seligman
run over Memorial Day weekend sponsored by the West
End Chapter. It is always well attended and a great time.
As always, our group will be out in force. The planning for
our High Country Blowout is in its final stages. The flyer is
in the Triker magazine. Check it out and register early. The
riding in and around Payson is something you can only see
for yourself. The venue, the accommodations, etc. are first
class but affordable. Hope to see everyone there. Ride often
and ride safe. Rackem

another trike, doing some home repairs, fighting with
the county, starting trophies for two groups and to top it
all off, with all the rain, we got up on Saturday morning
to find the ceiling in the dining room on the floor. Well,
I guess I can get off my box for now, so now about
the Western National Trike-In on April 30th, May 1st,

Due to our amazing run of warm dry weather out here
in California, we have taken lots of day rides this winter!
Our last one to Tollhouse, was a day of sunshine and nice
lunch in the mountains! Chapter members have decided on
chapter shirt design and color! You won’t be able to miss
us at next Trike-In The annual Clovis Rodeo Parade is fast
approaching and we always have a large group signed up to

come join us in Madera for an amazing time! Rides have
been planned everyday beginning Wednesday afternoon!

is the cherry on the cake top! We are planning to have
lunch in this wonderful location, with time to relax and
enjoy! Come ride with us! Our Chapter is planning to ride to
(the) Seligman Ariz. Run again later in May. We have gone
before and always have a great time ! Looking forward to
renewing old friendships and seeing new scenery! Perfect
riding weather, good friends, and terrific food! What more
could a triker ask for? Roy has his trike apart for engine work
and new paint job. Should be ready to show at Nationals
Heard a rumor it will be a awesome shade of yellow! Can’t
wait (to) see it rolling down the road, Roy! I would love to
see our year be one of good rides, seeing beautiful scenery
and sharing caring friendships! Life is too short to spend it
arguing over things that really tear at the fabric of Chapter
Brotherhood . All of us love riding, seeing chapter friends,
and sharing the joy of triking! Lets’ get it done!

News: Becky reports: 01/05/2014---Wishing all Trikers
a “belated” Happy New Year. Reggie and Becky rode
to Chico and Paradise. While on this ride, we took a
“recon” ride up to Iowa Hill to confirm the store/diner
will be open on the 4th of July. Donna has picked that
day and that location for the “Bob Bennett Memorial
Ride”. It was his “favorite ride”. They will be open and
will assist us in every way. Current plan is to “burn”
Bob’s vest in memoriam. Additional plans, if any, will
be discussed later. On 01/12/2014---Reggie and Becky
rode to Mukolumne/Electra River Beach. The purpose
of the ride was to explore the area for an “all day” ride/
picnic later in the summer. It should be a great ride. We
are really looking forward to it.
On 01/18/2014---Meeting/Dinner was held at Golden

many main course meal selections and side dishes. (As
a side note, None of us had dessert--do you believe
that?) Donna Bennett had prepared a 2014 RCT

presented them to us during the meeting. Both Reggie
Joaquin and Chuck Peterson enjoyed their birthday

News Bill and Kathy Haskett attended the Region 9 Trike-In
in Laughlin, NV. This was a fantastic event. The weather
was perfect for riding and we had great day rides – Lake
Havasu, Kingman, AZ, Oatman, AZ, Needles, CA and the
highlight was going to one of the nursing homes and giving
the residents trike rides. The smile on their faces was such a
rewarding experience. We met a lot of new people and had
a lot of laughs. There were also several BTW members from
the Denver area that attended. This is definitely an event
to put on your calendars every year as it is a lot of fun and
well worth going to. We will be having our annual picnic at
Fountain Creek Regional Park on Sunday, June 22. We still
have monthly breakfast get-togethers on the third Saturday
of every month at the Black Bear Diner at 9 am (Galley and
Academy Blvd). Can’t wait for the weather to get warmer
so we can go on some day rides after breakfast.

Leesburg Mardi Gras on Main Street was a good time,
though more of a family event then a Triker/Biker event,
the bands that were playing were pretty good. When you
read this Daytona Bike week will have past, hope everyone
had a safe/fun time. The local Ocala Drive-In (yes we have

the event will really catch on and last awhile. This one is the
2nd Saturday from 8-12 pm. Looking forward to attending the

News: We are getting ready for our first meeting at
the American Legion, since Luke’s Place closed. This
should change a bit of the character of our meetings. We
haven’t had that many activities lately. In January we had
the Blessing of the Bikes in Pompano. In February Bill
Tessar, Vicki and I went up to South Melbourne Beach for
a South Florida Gathering of BTW. There were members
there from around the state. It was a cool and wet day,
but also nice. I introduced Vicki to Dave and Sue from
Jupiter, whom I had met before. Bill Tessar is still looking
for a trike, or at least an idea for one. I wish him luck. Bike Week at Daytona is coming up soon, and we will have
some of our chapter members going up there. The clocks
are changing soon, so we might have some night time
driving ahead of us. That’s all for now, so arrive safe on

The meetings are still the second Saturday of each month

and they attracted two visitors and three new members to
the February meeting. We are so pleased and hope to keep
on growing. Fund raising was the subject of the meeting and
a yard sale at a flea market was decided. On March 8th we
meet at Joe’s instead of our regular meeting at Bronson, for
breakfast and to gather and inventory all items donated for
the sale, getting them marked and ready. Call Joe for details
and directions. The sale will be at the Bronson Flea market,

we wish him well. The Nature Coast Chapter mourns the

News: Wayne Eck, KS State Director submits that again
we are being teased by the weather with days of 5065 degree highs followed by inches of snow! We are
seeing a lot of colds and even a pneumonia and feel this
roller coaster of weather has something to do with it.
Our sympathies go out to the family of OPT member
Bill Taber. Bill was a casualty of our winter ice. He
was going to eat on a Sunday with some friends and
fell on ice as he was going into the restaurant. He did
not lose consciousness, got up, went in, cleaned up the
wound on the back of his head and ate lunch. By the
end of the meal he was feeling a little bad and decided
30
continued . . . . .
to go to the VA for evaluation. From there they sent him
to the large trauma center at Via Christi but a few hours
later Bill passed away from a bleed around his brain on
February 9, 2014. We will all miss him as he was one
of our oldest members and also one of the most active.
If you needed something done, Bill could get it done!
The last few years Bill had been plagued by different
illnesses from COPD to Leukemia to an aneurysm but
still Bill continued to trike. Even when feeling puny he
would ride over trailering as he said that was what it was
all about! We will miss him and his humor and wisdom
greatly! This is also a heads up to all of us, as we are
all prone to a fall now and then. We need to be alert
to something that can turn out to be life threatening.
Even when we think we are ok sometimes a head injury
can really sneak up on you and the sooner it is checked
out the better. The Park City Chill Bike, Car and Truck
show again lived up to its name. We moved trikes into
the show in jackets and we moved them out in snow 3
days later! We had some show winners in the group
so congratulations to them on their wins and on their
tenacity to follow through with bringing their trikes!
We had 8 trikes attend and took home 6 trophy plaques!

Next on the KS agenda will be our state meeting where
we will hold the election of our state officers. I would
like to say we still have some slots that no one is running

get involved. Nominations will stay open until voting
time at the meeting on March 22, 2014. We also have a
tablet with case and keyboard that we will give away at
the meeting to a lucky member in attendance. Yes, you
have to be there to win it! Come out and support the
state, it is only what you the members make it! Several
groups from KS are planning to make the trip to Eureka
Springs for the Trike-In in June. If you need someone
to ride with let a chapter director near you know and
they can let you know what plans are being made in
your area. We have set the date for the KS State TrikeIn as September 12-14, 2014 at Emporia KS. This will
again coincide with Emporia’s downtown Merchant
Event and we will be downtown for the show again. If
you have a BTW calendar please check this date as it
may be wrong! Looking forward to another great year
for KS BTW. Let’s get out and do some trike talking (I

from Wichita!! The first day of spring is March 20, and
we are still having winter weather, which can happen
in this part of the country, especially this year. Once
again, The Chill (car/truck/motorcycle/trike show) was
in the middle of an ice/snow storm but not as bad as last
year. Regardless, we had a good turnout of members
to man the booth and be available to talk to interested
trikers. Some left contact information and they have
been invited to join us at our meetings and events. We
had 8 trikes representing our chapter and we want to
congratulate our award winners. David Foster got 1st
place Trike, Servi/Sidecar, Tom & Jan Ray got 1st place
VW, Ken & Carol Harpool got 2nd place VW, Dale
“Pete” Walter got 3rd place VW, Bob Richards got 2nd
place v6/v8, and Jeff Eck got a 3rd place v6/v8. Weather
permiting, we will participate in the annual St. Patrick’s
Day Parade in Wichita, which will be on March 15th. It’s always a lot of fun so we are praying for a warm,
sunny day. We will have a Kansas State Meeting on the 22nd, at Beto Junction, and our next chapter meeting on
the 23rd, so our calendar is filling up quickly. We are
scheduled for the Benton Days Parade the end of April,
which is another fun day to look forward to. Along with upcoming parades, and regular chapter
meetings, the area “Biker Sundays” are starting up
around the area with breakfast and venders waiting
to greet the early spring riders. Cassoday is the first
Sunday of the month and Potwin is the second Sunday.
These are a couple of the more popular rides in our area
and more all over the state! We are also all looking
forward to the Central State Trike Rally, in Eureka
Springs, in June. Several members are already making
plans to attend. As always, if you are going to be in
our area, please join us for an event or chapter meeting.
Please check our website, opt-btw.org, for dates, times,
and locations. You can also call me at 316-554-4339

KENTUCKY - State
Director Interim: Gene “Sandman” Renfro, Calvert City,
270-703-7476, [email protected]
Meetings: To be announced
News: Slow riding right now! Thawing out from our last ice/
sleet/snow “event”. I love the way the weathermen find
new words for an old fashioned snowstorm, don’t you?
They even NAME winter storms now. Makes me laugh.
Ready for spring and getting on with meeting more trikers!
Time to roll out the VW and tune-up! Last year was a bit
fouled up, between knee replacement and building our new
apartment. This year should be better! We are planning on
touring more of Kentucky and meeting our BTW members,
face to face. Along the way we’ll spread the good word
about BTW and perhaps gather some new members to
boot. Planning on attending the Central States National Trike
- In, June 3rd - 7th. Eureka Springs sounds like a great place!
So far, we have five members going. Will be glad to catch
up with old friends and meet some new ones. KY is looking
into a State campout the first weekend of summer, June
20, 21, and 22. This will be in the Land Between the Lakes,
also known as LBL. Situated between Kentucky and Barkley
lakes, LBL has miles of lakeshore, multiple campgrounds, a
living history farm known as The Homeplace, a planetarium,
state parks and it’s close to other local points of interest,
including the largest city in our region, Paducah. Easy
access from Interstate 24. Details are being worked out,
so contact me if you are interested and I’ll fill you in! Also
looking forward to a fall campout, but want it to be in the
more Central or Eastern part of KY. Checking on locations,
so send me your suggestions. Mid September is our goal
on that one. Last year’s campout was a great time, minus
the breakdown’s, but anytime is great when shared with
our Triking Family! Lastly, a big THANK YOU to Alex & Lynne,
Jan N., the BOD and all the others who have helped us and
the BTW to grow! We may ask dumb questions, but we get
them answered! (Ha Ha!) Till next time, Ride Safe! Gene

Apartment was to have been done in October...and we’re
finally moved in February! Way it goes, friends! A lunch of
chili and fixin’s was provided by Bonnie & Gene and Glynna
S. brought some delicious cookies for dessert! Discussion of
attending Central States National Trike-In was received with
enthusiasm, with 5 declaring intentions of going, three to
camp and two already registered at a local hotel. Planning
on attending as many local events as possible, to bring more
awareness of BTW to the growing number of trikers in our
area. There is so much going on around here, that we should
be very busy! One on our list is a Craft Fair - Flea Market set
for May 10th in nearby Mayfield. Sponsored by the Eastern
Star, this is their second Fair and is already booked up solid
with vendors! Looks to be a grand time. Thanks to Janet for
inviting us! We are proud to support BTW as it continues to
grow. As with most things, there have been growing pains,
but we are confident it is coming together! Thanks to all our
leadership! It’s a thankless job, but THANK YOU anyway! Be
careful out there! Bonnie Walton, Secretary WKT

News: Hello BTW members. It’s near the end of March
now and the near record breaking snowfalls are beginning
to taper off. We are hoping for a springtime break soon.
We had a successful March meeting and took care of

we remember those Trikers that have passed over recently:

resolved, I want to bring everyone up to date on everything
that has been going on for the last few months. I hope that
all of you had a wonderful and Blessed holiday season with
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s! Unfortunately, we
have not had much in the way of riding weather since shortly
before Christmas. Between extreme cold temperatures,
snow in Jan and first week of Feb, then an ice storm two
weeks late in Feb, it has everyone wondering if we do live in
the South?! LOL As I sit here today on March 4th and write
this, we had temps at 70 degrees yesterday at about noon,
and then it tanked beginning at 3 p.m. As of this morning, it
is 29 degrees out with a forecasted high of 38 degrees. Oh
well, it is still winter, but I do believe this may be our last

Director for the Tri-County Triads Chapter, so if you live in
that area and are interested, please get in touch with me

some of which took place, and others that got rained out.
I also want to send out congratulations to E.L. & Patricia
Smith of Newberry, SC, as they have volunteered to become
the NEW Midlands Chapter Directors. We’ve already held
our first meeting that went well, and will have the second

The Midlands Chapter will include Columbia, SC along with
members living within about a 50 mile radius of Columbia,

News: Hello trikers everywhere! The weather has been off
& on for us trikers here in the Grand Strand area of coastal
South Carolina this past winter. We’ve been having a few
days of outstanding weather with temperatures in the mid
70’s, & a few days later a front moves in from up North,
& drags some cold air, and bad weather with it. We even
had bad ice storms move in to the area from out west in
late Feb. that caused lots of wide spread tree problems, and
power outages. Even with all the problems several of us who
still want to ride with our Chapter have been enjoying some
nice rides, and a few longer trips to some interesting places
in the towns all around us within a 100 mile radius. Next
month some of us will be riding with the American Legion

the A - Legion Legacy Scholarship fund. In May we’ll be
riding with the many riders who come to Myrtle Beach for
“Harley Bike Week”. Happily some of us are also members
with Rolling Thunder Chapter 3 here at the beach, and
we attend many of their rides and events as well.. All in
all, those of us loyal BTW Trikers who want to keep those
wheels turning can do so without to much problem.. A
reminder to all you trikers who visit Myrtle Beach. There’s
a KOA Camp Ground right down town near the Ocean with
camping spots, and cabins. Lot’s of our triker friends from
out of state like the country setting there that’s only 4
blocks from the beach.. I’m just say’in. That’s it from here
in triker paradise. Later Y’all... Maverick.

He will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough
to have known him. Things have been slow in north Texas,
two weeks of cold weather, then mother nature will throw
us a bone & provide us with an 80 degree day so we can
dust off our trikes & hit the roads. Never two days in a row
tho! As spring is approaching, the DFW chapter is preparing
to gather in March for our annual, “light em up & send em

are also talking about reviving the “Muenster Run” in April,

News: Hello brothers and sisters, hope everyone
had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The Shenandoah Valley Trikers put on a womenless beauty
pageant on December 7th at the Luray Moose Lodge, the
proceeds were given to the Angels Among Us and The Angel
Tree for Christmas, we helped over 25 children and 4 family’s
to have food and gifts for Christmas, that has touched our
hearts. There was a lot of fun and laughter at this event.
We also took on to help The Search Home in Mt Jackson
which has 6 people with disabilities to have Christmas, we
are planning to help more families this year that may be
in need. We are planning to have more fund raisers in the
upcoming months so we can help more people that may
be in need of assistance. Our meetings are not scheduled
at one place, every month we try to rotate the meetings
at a location close to the members, that way one or two
members don’t have to always travel so far every month,
so if you would like any information on the meetings please
feel free to email me at [email protected]. Our
next meeting is going to be held at Uncle Buck’s in Luray VA.

News: Greetings Trikers and Friends...
Darn Weather, I had to cancel another ride because
of bad weather rolling through. That’s three in a row
now. Washington State is wet. At least Western WA is.
Eastern WA. has been snowy all lot. Not good for Trike
riding. No real news that I can think of for right now. I’m
still working on getting a chapter revived or renewed
in Eastern WA. If you want to help or are interested,
please call me. The Coastal Cruisers are gearing up for
The Washington State Trike-In coming up the 14th of
August. Nobody should miss this years 2014 Trike-In.
We expect
to break last years record of attendee’s.We had so
much fun last year that I can guarantee you’ll have a
good time again this year.Word is, we have someone
riding up here from Down South. Oklahoma??? That’
a long ways away!!! I can’t wait...in a little 5 year

Good attendance at monthly meetings and they are real
close to finalizing their Chapter Patch. Good Job you

off the meeting with a big thank you to Lisa for the fabulous

soon took over as the meeting began to take a left turn.
Captain Mike got everyone’s interest back as he pulled out
the gold keys to the Lexicon. He placed his finger over his

When we got splashed with Radar. Knowing we needed
a cover story to hide our tracks, we shot over to the hills
by Tubar, where we found the goofiest looking dude on
the planet out walking his dog. Brought him on board [the
dude not the dog]. Sat him down in the big chair, hit him
with lots of bright lights. Poked him a few times, and told

him we needed his seed for the “Great Race” We spun
him around lots and lots of times till he couldn’t walk if
he wanted to. Carried him to the exit ramp were we’ll say
gravity took over, then split. When the Jupeann authority’s
interview that dude, nobody’s ever gonna believe we were
ever there! On the way back home we stopped by a little
known satellite concert hall. Took in the show, which we
all agreed was worth doing. Best Elvis impersonator we all
had ever seen. And man did that guy nail the look! From
there it was straight back to home base. We slipped the
Lexicon back in next to the NCC-1703. Looks like we got
away with it so far. “Cabin Fever” averted! [no Jubean’s

of rides planned for Feb but we decided that none of us
wanted to ride in the wet slippery snow so those rides were
canceled. In Jan we held a baby shower for our waitress. When you meet at the same place and have the same
waitress they become part of the group. We had a great
time providing this new little boy with some much needed
“triker” gear as well as things every baby needs. Check out
the picture of the Diaper Trike made by Linda Churchward! That is the kind of things that happen when trikers party
together. Now we are getting real anxious to ride and have
a couple of fun ones this month. In Apr we will be starting
to work with the WA Department of licensing on the issue
of obtaining trike endorsements on your drivers license. I
for one am really looking forward to using our organization
and our trikes to help the State improve the process. If
you have questions you won’t want to miss that meeting
on April 24th and on April 27th we will be taking our trikes
to the test course to see how each different kind fit on the
course. This should be a great step forward for those who
have been told that their trikes were “too big to fit”. As the

maintenance on your faithful ride..Time to think about that
new gadget for the trike, or start making plans for spring

the new Triker is being well received... The post office also
seems to be improving, although you can’t depend on that
too much.. If anyone is having delivery problems with the

News: Hi to all from the frozen north part of Vancouver
Island BC Canada. We have started riding with the group we
have gathered so far, one Harley trike (black), and three Can
Am Spyders (white). Mainly because of the temperature
our journeys are short, ten kms in each direction which
doesn’t seem like much but try it at 5 below 0.
We are hardy folks in this region of the forest. Heads turn
as we roll along, stopping in the small town of Cumberland
(which puts on one hell of a great Motorcycle weekend
every year and which is now drawing riders from all across
the country and the USA border) I will get the dates and
include them in the next months presentation. Come on
up and join in the fun. We have great mountains to ride
in, roads leading to fantastic lakes, offering swimming,
boating, fishing and then be off to tour fishing villages
along ocean and mountain roads that will thrill the hearts
of those who love winding, sweeping, bending curves. The
sights, sounds and smells of the west coast will leave you
heady, full of the spiritual essence of the Island and craving
for more of the same. Find the wonders of the seashore
and sea life as you walk amongst and become part of the
experience of our First Nations peoples, their villages and
artwork, with lots of their beautiful and mysterious totem
carvings to view and maybe take home with you. A gentle
people, eager to share their knowledge and art with you
and the richness of their traditional culture and experiences
over centuries of having lived with this land and all it
presents.Virgin Douglas fir and Cedar forests where you can
walk amongst some of the biggest trees you will ever see.
As you can see I love this Island and look forward to having
our brothers and sister of the BTW come visit us and we
in turn find you and your special areas and roads that will
give us better perspective on the bounty of beautiful areas
throughout North America. Not to mention the opportunity
to meet and enjoy the camaraderie of new found friends.
That’s what I believe the biking world offers to all of us, one

day at a time. I am hopeful that the next issue will find us
(BTW) here on the Island with many more members and a
new club area name, once we have enough folks involved to
set that name in stone.

Can’t find your area? You can get more details by visiting
www.btw-uk.co.uk. After a very busy winter period with
many members getting together to celebrate, members are
starting to get their trikes ready for the, soon to be arriving, summer. This will be a much shorter report this month
as Paula, our wonderful BTW-UK Triker article writer, is
unable to put pen to paper this month as she is helping her
mother recover from major surgery. We all wish Paula’s
mum a very speedy recovery. Paula will be back real soon
to take back her usual writing job, so, in the meantime you
have to make do with us. On a happier note – All of BTW
UK would like to congratulate one of our younger members
who has reached the grand old age of 18. Alex Cotton has
been a BTW UK member, with his mum, since he was 13.
He can often be found at rallies etc helping the less able of
us to pitch tents etc and is always around to help. Area 2,
which is the area Alex attends, presented him with an engraved Celtic goblet at one of their meets and, as is usual
for this area, cake was involved in the celebration. Congratulations Alex. It is a pleasure to have you as a member.
If you want to know more about BTW in the UK, check out
our forum on http://btwukonline.co.uk/index.php , on the
forum you will be able to contact other members, ask your
trike related question; read your UK Newsletter(if you are
a BTWUK member) along with many other ideas etc. Or
contact you nearest Road Captain to find where your nearest
meet is and go along and meet other like-minded people. We
have a few dates for your diary so please try and get the time
off work to join other BTW-UK members at these events.
First one will be the BTW-UK AGM which will be hosted
in Area 5 by Jon Jones, Area 5 R.C and his merry men and
women. It will be on 3rd of MAY 2014 @ Mold Ex Service-

one that many of our members enjoy every year is Trikes R
Us gathering at the end of May. Not a BTW event but for the
last few years we have won the award for the largest “club”
turnout, so come along for a great weekend with other members and help us retain the trophy for another year. Next we
are very excited to say Bob ‘Hobbit’ Thomas has found us
a wonderful site for a BTW-UK Members only gathering to
be held on the weekend of 18/19/20th of July 2014! It is a
lovely country pub, surrounded by stunning countryside in
the county of Herefordshire called ‘The Royal Oak”, situated on Hazles Rd between the A53 and the A442. This will
be a chance for all members to meet and party together. Not
forgetting of course that the BTW-UK publicity stand will

be at the BMF shows at the Peterborough Show Ground on
17/18 May and the Sept 13/14 2014. If you want to help

Good Morning All Directors, From Loner Abbott CA State Director
I just got back from the Region 9 Trike-In. Had a great time meeting old and making new friends.
Alex, Jack, Rock, Shorty, Bill and I were there talking business and just generally bulling each other.
One of the things that came up was the lifetime memberships. I was one of the last to receive this.
At the time, I was under the impression that you had to be a member for 10 years before you could
be eligible for it. My wife and I were proud to have spent the time with BTW to earn the chance to
become Lifetime Members. At the meeting Saturday night, Alex brought up a plan that was proposed
by Jack Mertes at the last Board Meeting, that would work to help offset the cost to support all the
lifetime members that would not affect any BTW member financially in any way, but would help
support BTW as a whole. The plan is to request all State & Chapter events held in the name of BTW
to donate 10% of their proposed donation from the event back to BTW. As a single event, this may
not sound like much, but if every State and Chapter would do this at every event, it just might help get
BTW as a whole back on its feet again. As California State Director, I support this suggestion 100%
and I hope that all of you directors feel the same way and will support this plan to help keep this great
organization stable and prosperous for our future.Just remember that this plan will not be mandatory, just
a request, but if you believe in BTW and want it to survive, this could be a simple way to make it happen.
Ride Safe, Ride Free, and God Bless

TO OLD TO RIDE
Who will no more ride, can I decide?
Will I know, when its too old to ride
Who or will I decide when not to ride?
Onto the big V8, built by me and Big Bob, the Florida kid,
was daddy Rathold winner. Called the ground shaker by
name
and a winner of the show for sure, off to Easson Germany
show
with trophy, prizes and cash galore.
Who will say it’s time to ride, I’m still not sure I can’t
decide.
I started on a Harley flathead,
that I rode till it was dead.
I paid a woopin’ $12.00 for that ride, and ten years
in parts, fun and rides. What is too old to ride?
On to the knucklehead and shovelhead I road.
Spills, thrills and fun all them years.
Who is to say when its too old to ride, or will I decide?
In 1982 I went Free on Three on old ugly, VW,
just like me.
Who will decide, its too old to ride?
Off of the VW on to a Pancake Porsche, all steel
build and bright.
Fast like the wind, road mostly at night.
56
I’m 82 years under my belt.
I still ride the big V8 but my wheelchair most of the time.
But I believe I have heard God say “Pappy it’s gettin’ late
and I’m getting too tired to ride.
But like I say, only God will decide when it’s too old to
Ride.

In Memory of Trikers Lost
Lawrence “Larry” H. Wheeler, Jr. 66, of Coffeyville,
Kansas passed away on Tuesday,
February 25, 2014 at CRMC. He
belonged to the BTW (Brothers
of the Third Wheel) and was
nicknamed Thunderroad. He
loved riding his trike with many
friends and family. On July 23,
2007 he was united in marriage to
Jeanne Weber, we will miss you Larry. Claude A. “Sandy” Kennedy Jr. passed away suddenly
on January 22nd. The DFW
chapter lost a longtime BTW
member and great friend.
Sandy helped our chapter
host last year’s Memorial
Day rally, which was held
on his property, with a large
turnout of trikers and bikers
from all over the country, all friends he has rode with.
He loved riding and was known to take long trips, never
worrying about how many miles away the destination was,
but would always regale us with stories about the fun and
antics he encountered while traveling. Accompanying him
on his many journeys was his wife Oleda Kennedy. He will
miss be missed by all that knew him. Rest in Peace Sandy.
William A. Taber passed away
February 9, 2014. Bill was an
avid member of
Brothers of the Third Wheel OK,
USAF Tech Sgt., ret. and
farmer, husband, father,
grandfather, he will be missed by

Actur Nielsen BTW Vancouver Island’s oldest potential
member died before he could
register. We outfitted him
with a vest, crest, and an over
90’s patch and it brought him
back to life. He was born in
Denmark and was 95 years
young. He rode motorcycles
himself until he was 85 and
then he started riding with me about a year and a half
ago on the trike. He was a man of action and adventure,
shot in the neck and out through the mouth by a sniper
during world war two he always said that, if the Germans
couldn’t kill him nothing could. I pretended to grab him
one day and I was rewarded with a head butt, one never
forgets what comes instinctively and through training. I
had hoped he would be part of the group for many more
years but I guess he could not resist the attraction of
new roads and adventure where ever it is we go when
done here. We affectionately referred to Actur as “Tiger”
and he is missed by all. He was a Brother of the Third
wheel in his heart and was proud to be part of our group.
“thumbs up Tiger” He rides with the Creator and if you
listen closely you will hear the rumble of his ride in the
sky.
