THE CROP CARE GUIDE TO
PASTURE
PROTECTION
INSECTICIDES/MOLLUSCICIDES
• Long residual control. Astral 250 gives true
bare earth residual control of a range of
pests including redlegged earth mite (RLEM)
for up to 60 days when applied at the
40mL/ha rate.
• Controls a range of pests. Astral 250
is registered for use in wide range of crops
and pastures to control redlegged earth
mite, blue oat mite, bryobia mite, brown
pasture looper, pasture webworm and
vegetable weevil.
• Compatibility. Astral 250 is compatible with
Imidan® and Saboteur ®. Astral 250 is also
compatible with the herbicides
Romper® 440, Sprayseed, Kyte®700 WG,
Broadsword, Simagranz, Dual, Sencor,
Lusta and Logran.
• Application. Astral 250 can be applied by
ground rig in a total water volume of
50-200L/ha, or by air in a minimum total
water volume of 20L/ha.
• Early control. Unlike seed dressings and
post-emergent sprays, Astral 250 controls
pests before they attack the seedling.
This maximises seedling emergence and
plant health.
• Excellent value. Bifenthrin has always
delivered the best value in terms of cost per
day of control. Astral 250 now offers even
greater value.
• Broad spectrum control. Imidan controls
redlegged earth mite, blue oat mite and
lucerne flea.
• Residual control. Imidan gives 7-10 days
residual control of the key pests and is the
perfect tank mix partner for Astral 250 to
give maximum residual control of RLEM and
effective control of lucerne flea.
• Bare earth and foliar applications. Imidan
gives true residual control on the soil and
on the leaf. It can be used as a bare earth
spray or early season post emergent when
there is foliage and bare earth present.
• Fast acting. Complete kill of pests in
1-2 days.
• Short withholding periods. 2 days for
pastures and lucerne and 7 days for
cereals. Allows you to put stock back into
pasture blocks sooner.
• Flexible applications. Apply by ground rig in
50-100L/ha of water or by air in a minimum
total water volume of 20L/ha.
• Compatibility. Imidan is compatible with
Astral 250, Mascot Duo, Gladiator,
Sprayseed, Shirquat, Achieve, 2,4-D amine
and ester, Thistle-Killem and Trifolamine.
• Broad spectrum control. Mascot Duo
controls a wide range of pests including
redlegged earth mite, blue oat mite,
blackheaded pasture cockchafer, wingless
grass-hoppers, brown pasture looper and
pasture webworm.
• Controls blackheaded pasture cockchafer.
Mascot Duo is a very effective and
economical option for controlling this
troublesome pasture pest.
• Wide crop and pasture registrations.
Mascot Duo is registered to control the
key pests in a range of crops and
pasture situations.
• Fast knockdown. Removes pest quickly
and effectively.
• Foliar and bare earth. Mascot Duo is a very
effective foliar spray for the control of earth
mites. Mascot Duo is registered for bare
earth control of RLEM, however it is only
suited to low pest pressure situations
where short-term residual is required.
In most situations, Crop Care would
recommend treatment with Astral 250 for
bare earth control.
• Compatibility. Mascot Duo is compatible
with Havoc, Fusilade, Banvel,
Thistle-Killem, Trifolamine, 2,4-D amine and
ester, T-Rex, Bentley, Simagranz,
Saboteur, Shirquat, Sprayseed, Reglone
and Gladiator.
• Better value. Mascot Duo delivers great value
in controlling a range of problem pests in
pastures and crops.

• Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
Senator is a crucial tool in the integrated
management of soil pests including RLEM
and BOM. It has a different mode of action
to other insecticides used in the
management of these pests and being
seed applied it is very targeted. When used
in conjunction with soil applied insecticides,
Senator 600 becomes an integral part of
the pest management program.
• Improves establishment. By applying
Senator 600 to pasture seed, the seed is
protected through the early germination
and establishment phases of growth,
which ensures greater long-term dry matter
production and this will translate into
higher profitability.
• Beneficial friendly. As Senator 600 is
applied directly to the seed, it is well suited
to IPM. Enabling beneficial insects to assist
in the management of insect pests.
• Ask your seed supplier for Senator 600
applied seed.
• Effective control of pasture pests.
Including redlegged earth mite, lucerne flea,
blue oat mite, pangola aphids, wingless
grasshopper, spotted alfalfa aphid and blue
green aphid.
• Registered in pasture, pasture seed and
forage crops (including clover, medics, cereals,
lucerne and legumes for animal feed).
• Low cost option for post-em control of both
RLEM and lucerne flea. Short residual but
systemic so suited for later applications and use
in time-rite applications.
• Do not spray bare ground - ie allow pasture
to emerge prior to application.
• Systemic, contact and stomach mode of
action.
• Limited residual control.
• Application flexibility.
Ground Rig: 50L - 100L water/ha
Aerial: 20L - 40L water/ha
• Effective control of blackheaded pasture
cockchafer, redlegged earth mite, pea
aphid, lucerne leaf roller, native budworm
(Helicoverpa punctigera), pasture webworm,
brown pasture looper, pink or brown cutworm
and common cutworm.
• Registered in lucerne, pasture, and
numerous other summer and winter row and
broadacre crops.
• Controls a wide range of insects in a range
of pasture situations. Excellent
rainfastness makes it especially suited to
high rainfall or irrigated situations.
• Application flexibility.
Ground Rig: 50L - 100L water/ha
Aerial: 10L - 20L water/ha
• Highly concentrated formulation.
Convenience of low use rates and less
packaging.
• Contact and residual activity.
• Rapid knockdown.
• Micro-encapsulated active ingredient acts as
a powerful ultra violet (UV) light protectant
which extends residual activity.
• Rainfast in 6 hours.
• 14 day withholding period to harvest/grazing
Slugs affect pasture. Slug densities as low
as 5/m2 have been shown to reduce ryegrass
and white clover seedling numbers by 27%
and 29% respectively within 21 days of
sowing. Trials conducted in New Zealand have
shown that slugs can certainly be a major
problem during pasture establishment in
both spring and autumn, especially in
spray-drill situations.
• SlugOut is highly effective against slugs.
• SlugOut has a high concentration of active ingredient.
• SlugOut is a premium granular bait formulation that is small in size but high in active ingredient. SlugOut contains 18g/kg [1.8%] of the active ingredient metaldehyde but all the metaldehyde is in the edible outer coating giving an effective concentration of 90g/kg [9%]
•SlugOut was developed in New Zealand
to withstand rain; trials have shown that
SlugOut does not disintegrate in heavy rain
and remains intact after at least 90mm
of rain.
• SlugOut gives excellent coverage;
at equivalent rates/ha, SlugOut delivers
50% more bait points per m2 than
Metarex and 6 times the amount of
META/Mesurol/Multigard.
SlugOut does not affect earthworms
or carabid beetles.

HERBICIDE
• Broad spectrum weed control. Claw 350SL
• Safe to use on a range of legumes.
• Excellent control of capeweed and
provides effective control of key annual grass
and broadleaf weed species in pastures.
This includes silver grass and barley grass
as well as doublegee, Paterson’s curse,
turnip weed and many others.
• Wide window of application. Because of its
inherent safety Claw 350SL can be applied
from the 3rd trifoliate leaf right up to
immediately before flowering. This allows
flexibility of timing and means spraying at
the correct weed stage, rather than the
growth stage of the pasture.
• Excellent pasture safety. Claw 350SL can
be safely used on most lucerne, clover and
serradella varieties. Claw 350SL can also
be used on pastures containing established
perennial grasses. Vigour of grass species
may be retarded by the use of Claw 350SL
but good growing conditions should
facilitate full recovery.
• Minimal disruption to grazing. Unlike some
other pasture herbicides Claw 350SL does
not brown off the desirable pasture species
and the 7 day withholding period ensures
maximum pasture utilisation and flexibility.
• Compatible with a range of insecticides.
Claw 350SL can be used with a number of
insecticides such as Mascot Duo or Imidan
to control damaging pasture pests such as
redlegged earth mite and lucerne flea.
• Liquid (SL) formulation for ease of mixing.
Trifolamine can be used on lucerne, sub
clover and medic pastures.
• Safe to cereals. Because Trifolamine is
safe to cereals and can be used on legumes
as young as one trifoliate leaf it is ideal for
cereals undersown with legume pasture
species.
• Controls a wide range of weeds. Trifolamine
is registered to control a wide range of
weeds including hard to control weeds such
as capeweed, Paterson’s curse and thistles.
Paterson’s curse. Agtryne MA® has
proven to be the most effective herbicide
on the market for controlling these
troublesome weeds.
• Flexible rate range. Agtryne can be applied
at rates from 300mL/ha up to 1.5L/ha
giving greater flexibility depending on the
size of the weeds and the maturity of the
pasture.
• Safe to mixed clover and grass pastures.
Agtryne is safe to use on clovers when
used in accordance with the label and
avoiding temperatures over 180C.
• Controls a range of weeds. Also controls
a wide range of other broadleaf weeds
including toadrush and storksbill.
• Compatible with a range of insecticides.
Agtryne can be used with a number of
insecticides such as Saboteur, Mascot Duo
or Imidan.
• Compatible with Claw 350SL. The
combination of Claw 350SL and Trifolamine
is effective on an even broader range of
weeds in lucerne.
• Trusted Brand. Trifolamine has been the
brand for control of weeds in lucerne and
other legume pastures for decades.

THISTLE-KILLEM 750
®
• Excellent control of capeweed and
Paterson’s curse. Igran contains terbutryne
which has been proven to be very effective
for controlling these troublesome weeds
• Flexible use options. Igran can be used at a
range of rates either alone or in a tank mix
with Thistle-Killem
• Safe to mixed clover and grass pastures.
Igran is safe to use on clovers when used in
accordance with the label and avoiding
temperatures over 180C.
• Controls a range of weeds. Also controls a
range of other broadleaf weeds including
toadrush and storksbill.
• Registration pending for use in plantain.
Capeweed
Some important pasture weeds including
capeweed and thistles can be controlled by
“spray-grazing”, that is, a combination of
herbicide treatment followed by heavy grazing.
The application of Thistle-Killem 750 herbicide
to weeds increases palatability to stock by
raising sugar levels. Also the leaves tend to
curl upwards making them more accessible
to stock.
• Key benefit. Cost effective broadleaf weed
control as herbicide rates can be kept low
which also enhances clover safety.
• Timing. Apply spray to weeds in autumn
and early winter when they are actively
growing and are 6-8 weeks old. Spray when
sub-clover has at least 4 trifoliate leaves
and weeds are at the rosette stage.
Introduce stock 7-10 days after spraying at
high stocking rate.
• Rate of use. Thistle-Killem 750 Herbicide;
Use 230mL/ha to 930mL/ha, for spraygrazing, refer to label for further directions
• Compatibility. Thistle-Killem 750 can be
tank mixed with Imidan, Mascot Duo, and
Saboteur for the control of pasture insects
such as redlegged earth mite.
• Excellent grass control in your pastures.
Shirquat has proven to be a most effective
herbicide for controlling ryegrass, brome
grass, silver grass and suppression of barley
grass in legume based pastures.
• Relatively safe on legume pasture seed
set. Shirquat is much softer on pasture
seed set versus using glyphosate for
spraytopping. Shirquat preserves more
viable legume seed, which allows more
seedlings to regenerate pasture, giving a
more productive pasture the following year.
• Improves feed quality and stock
productivity. By using Shirquat for
spraytopping you are improving your legume
base, which is a vital summer food source
for livestock. 113 grams of medic seed per
head per day can result in sheep body
weight maintenance.
• Resistance tool. Shirquat use during
spraytopping can reduce resistant ryegrass
seed set. It can be used over consecutive
years in pasture to attempt to reduce
resistant grass populations whilst providing
a good legume pasture base for livestock.
• Reduce ARGT with Shirquat. Spraytopping
with Shirquat will kill nematodes on
ryegrass before bacterial growth has got to
the toxic stage, if sprayed in the correct
window. This comes about by spraying the
ryegrass early enough to stop flower
development. Treatment should be applied
10 days after the emergence of the first
ryegrass seed heads.

• Quality pastures require good
establishment. It is vital to get control
of difficult to kill weeds before pasture
is sown.
• Nail 600EC increases control of many
broadleaf weeds. It will increase control
of hard to manage weeds such as
marshmallow, capeweed and common
storksbill along with many others.
• Broad spectrum of weed control.
Gladiator Optimax used in conjunction with
Nail 600EC will provide excellent control of a
wide range of common grass and broadleaf
weed species.
• Rapid brown out and no plant back gives
sowing flexibility. Nail 600EC has no
plantback or residual action so sowing can
commence soon after spraying.
• Rainfast in 1 hour. Both Nail 600EC and
Gladiator Optimax are rainfast in 1 hour
providing excellent flexibility in application
timing.
• Good tank mix compatibility. Both products
are compatible with a wide range of other
products (refer to labels) to enhance
pest control.
• Ease of use. Gladiator Optimax contains a
built in surfactant so there is no need to
add other general purpose surfactants, just
add the Nail 600EC and go spraying.
• Environmentally friendly. Gladiator Optimax
surfactant system is fully biodegradable,
so it can even be applied to aquatic weeds.
• Nil withholding grazing of grass pasture.
