2014 Annual Report A Message From Our Leadership Life can be complicated and sometimes children are dealt situations that are not of their choice or doing. During these times, it is important to be there for one another; especially our children. This is what the Tranquil Shores Children’s Foundation is all about. Being there for children and families; especially those whose lives have been touched by substance abuse or addiction. We are the type of organization that understands the cycle of addiction and offers compassion and hope. It is a privilege to be able to serve as the founding Chairman of the Board of this amazing community organization. Thank you very much for your support! We approached our work with a sound understanding of child development, listened to families, and took action. Most importantly, we helped to heal and saw measurable change in the lives of the children and families we served. to our Board Members for their wisdom & support, our donors, volunteers, community partners & staff. It is an honor & a privilege to lead this dynamic organization along side you all. This labor of love could not have been possible without Mr. Chad Johnson who had the heart and dedication necessary to make the vision of the Tranquil Shores Children’s Foundation a reality. A heartfelt thank you also goes Caterina Tassara Runyon Executive Director 2014 Accomplishments For many parents with substance use disorders and for caregivers of children affected by substance abuse or addiction; isolation, anger, fear, embarrassment, and feelings of abandonment are all real. For children, these same emotions are complex and even harder to manage without support. At the Tranquil Shores Children’s Foundation we believe that families are resilient, prevention efforts help, treatment is effective, and that there is hope in recovery! Children completed 84 therapy sessions Parents in recovery increased their knowledge through our Hope Scholarships. Therapy included equine, play, and counseling. Their families also received comprehensive supports including: in-school advocacy, parent/caregiver coaching, opportunities to come together through Universal Music Day, and financial assistance with holiday gifts & basic needs. of healthy child development through monthly parenting resources on School Readiness, Raising Teens, How to Create a Nurturing Home, The Cycle of Addiction, & Parenting While in Recovery. 92 children experienced the love All 5th graders at Azalea Elem. School learned that comes with receiving a Healing HeART “art kit” - a toolkit to help nurture relationships between children and parents/caregivers through art. about the dangers of substance use through the class “SAY WHAT?! Community awareness was increased Partnerships resulted in through mission presentations at: A Night of Art & Hope Exhibit, The 3rd Charity Golf Classic, Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce, Juvenile Welfare Board, Celebrate Recovery, & Back to School Fairs. two St. Pete College Human Services interns being better prepared to work with families affected by substance abuse. Sponsorships were also awarded to MADD, BBBS, and R’ Club in support of their work with at-risk youth. A Grandmother’s message about her 16yr old granddaughter “Vivian is more confident. She is expressing herself more in her communication & taking more pride in herself… God Bless You.” 2014 Board, Staff, & Mission The Tranquil Shores Children’s Foundation was founded in 2010 out of the desire of Mr. Chad Johnson & Tranquil Shores to give back to the community. The organization is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity with a mission to break the cycle of addiction through efforts that champion the healthy development of children. It is led by a Board of visionary community leaders who volunteer their time for the betterment of children and families affected by substance abuse or addiction.
