ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA
Thursday 11th June at 7.00pm
Cleopatra, the alluring and
fascinatingly ambiguous Queen of
Egypt, has bewitched the great Mark
Antony, soldier, campaigner and now
one of the three rulers of the Roman
Empire. When Antony quarrels with
his fellow leaders and throws in his
lot with Cleopatra, his infatuation
threatens to split the Empire in two.
The third of our Roman Tragedies,
Antony & Cleopatra picks up
Antony’s story many years after
Julius Caesar. Virtue and vice,
transcendent love and realpolitik
combine in Shakespeare’s greatest
exploration of the conflicting claims
of sex and power, all expressed in a
tragic poetry of breath-taking beauty
and magnificence.

in the hatred of others, but his own
fragile and destructive pride.
After more than a decade working

Tuesday 15th September at 7.00pm
In Aida, Verdi masterfully puts the
intimate affairs of the heart against
the grandeur of the universe: where
kingdoms rise and fall and the sands
of time grind onwards.
There could be no grander setting for
such an opera than Sydney Harbour
itself: awash with the light of the
city and the Sydney Opera House
silhouetted against the setting sun.
It’s a monumental undertaking, with
a team of more than 700 people
involved in the project before a single
note is heard over the harbour.
Long after the fireworks have faded
from the sky and Amneris sings her
quiet, concluding prayer, you’ll see the
true mastery of this opera...

Charlie is generally recognised and
categorised as a country singer,
however, as his regular supporters
will tell you, country music actually
only accounts for a very small part
of his concert repertoire and music
catalogue in general.
An immensely talented star, he is
a well proven writer of fabulous
songs, and is well known and well
loved for his wonderful voice, but
it is in his ability to tell a fine tale
that we find a hidden gem, offering
a fine compliment to the music and
giving the concerts a real sense of
intimacy. Indeed one of Charlie’s
main attributes is that to this day,
in-spite of all of his fame and
achievements, he remains the same
warm, humble, likable, down to
earth, compassionate person.

the German Comedy Ambassador
has ‘groan’ to like puns.... though he
still couldn't eat a whole one. As Henning’s assimilation is not
yet complete he hasn't lost his
sense of Westphalian wonderment
at the foibles of British society.
Expect a crash course in personal
accountability and have a right old
laugh at the same time! Wunderbar!

Tuesday 26th January at 8.00pm
In the past when you put Sarah

need a cardie?’ and said things like:
‘There’ll be wasps. I’ve nothing to sit
on. Is that poo? Can we go home?’
But things have changed. Now she
has outside slippers. She can tell a
chaffinch from a tit (hey). But she
still can’t tell if it’s an owl or her
husband’s asthma.
Sarah Millican is venturing outside.
Bring a cardie.
