Pat Brown Webber Ten year Village resident 360-510-9448 Page 5 GOLF CLUB NEWS The BBV Golf Club promotes an organized golfing environment created in the spirit of the game of golf, open to men and women of all experience and skill levels. you can still post at the Pro Shop to see your trend. All posts during the inactive season will not be included in your handicap when we get back to the active season starting March 1, 2016. If you are a golfer or would like to be, the golf club has a lot to offer. The Men’s Club plays on Thursday mornings, the Ladies Club on Thursday afternoons (during the season), and Friday Couples play on Friday afternoons. In November, we started the Fall Junior Program for ages 8-16yrs with lessons on Saturdays at 10am (weather permitting). Juniors will learn golf fundamentals, course etiquette, and rules. Watch for additional classes for women only, and friends and family in the January Bulletin. Winter Reminders for All: Non-golfers: The golf course may seem empty and inviting but it remains in use for golfing only. Believe it or not, many golfers (new and old) seem to “come out of the woodwork” at this time of the year to challenge the course and Mother Nature. So, please, no walking, biking, playing, etc., on the course; don’t risk being injured or causing inadvertent damage to the course. BBV Golf Club Membership and Renewal: If want to renew or are interested in joining the club, the 2016 membership form will be available in January. We have a fun year planned with monthly tournaments, Men’s Club, Ladies Club, Friday Night Couples and additional golfing events and activities. The membership fee is still only $5 US and the deadline is April 1st to ensure your listing in the 2016 Roster. The roster also contains the dates of the upcoming year’s events and activities, local rules of play, golf etiquette, and handicap information. If you have any questions about the club or our activities, contact Ernie Hutchins (805-8894916: [email protected]) Fall/Winter Golf Activities Continue: Don’t put away the “sticks” yet! There’s still plenty of golf and fun activities to enjoy for those who have not fled the Village for warmer climates: The Golf Shop is open on weekdays (except Wed) and weekends (weather permitting) The “Monday Money Game” is still on each Monday (weather permitting); $10 entry fee with pay-outs for low net individual, low net team, skins and greenies The BBV Men’s Club and Ladies Club still play informally on Thursdays, weather permitting Honor the ‘honor box’ If you don’t have a valid/ current Annual Golf Pass and the Golf Shop is closed, you must pay the $14 day-fee. It’s still a bargain, so why risk a fine and/or the embarrassment of being caught not paying? Golfers: The course is more prone to damage during the winter, so please keep motor carts on the concrete pathways as much as possible, keep hand carts off tee boxes and greens, and repair fairway and green divots that you and others make to keep the course healthy and in good playing condition for those who follow. Also, when frost is on the ground, do not start play until it melts. And respect private property at all times. Thank you! See you on the tee at BBV!!! . Handicap Posting We are in the inactive season, November 15 to February 29, and scores posted are not acceptable for handicap purposes, however; Page 6 YACHT CLUB NEWS The Birch Bay Village Yacht Club extends warm holiday wishes to all its members and everyone who lives in Birch Bay Village. We had a wonderful year, and we enjoy support from members and, often enough, non-members. So, we express our appreciation to everyone who is part of what we do. Thank you to Jerrylyn Barney for her fun and funny gift ideas. A huge thanks and congratulations goes to our Social Committee Chairman Rose Kelly, her amazing team, AND the Sunday cleanup crew. The décor, organization, and food preparation were second to none, and the team Rose has built is doing amazing work. And what we do is often have lots of fun, and that’s exactly what happened at our Christmas party. We had a wonderful turnout, about 72 members, and everyone enjoyed the food and fellowship and festive atmosphere. We had door prizes and a raffle, AND we had a surprise visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus themselves (thank you Jim and Linda Lockie). We showed them to their special seating and they worked through the “naughty and nice” list. Fortunately, most everyone found themselves on the nice list. And speaking of amazing work by our Social Committee, Rose is inviting our members to an evening of theater and fun. Movie night is Wednesday, January 13, at the BBV Clubhouse, Rose and her team will be showing a great movie. There are several top new possibilities on the short list. When the movie title is finally decided, we will get the word out ASAP. We’ll have popcorn and snacks, and everyone can come by and watch together. The event is free to our members, and we ask that any nonmembers who want to join us to please come as our guests. The doors open at 6:45and the show movie starts at 7:00pm, so come on out and enjoy the evening. Be sure to take some time out of your busy lives to enjoy the magic of the holidays this year. There is nothing more wonderful than being with family and friends to brighten up your life. May this Christmas spread cheer into your lives. Safe travels and only the best wishes to you and yours, Bill Rackley Commodore/BBVYC Page 7 Page 8 1973 Arial Photo of Birch Bay Village. Note the how much larger the marina is today, compared to then. BBV Clubhouse Circa 1984 The Board of Directors is planning to celebrate BBV 50th year on Saturday, August 13. Stay tuned for updates. If you have old photos or remembrances of the early days of BBV, please feel free to share them with the rest of the Village by submitting them to the BBV Office for publication in the Bulletin. BBV Marina-1984 Page 9 BOARD MEETING NOTES (see full minutes online www.bbvcc.com) Committees: ACC: Tom Wright Chairman and representative: Member extensions: Bill Knowlton and Richard Baer requested that their terms be extended for another year due to lack of applicants. AR&R change: The ACC recommended a grammatical change to the AR&Rs section 6.1.a concerning Storage Sheds: a. Have peaked roofs compatible with the existing house, or not less than 3/12 pitch. Marina: Jim Thomson Chairman and representative: Member request: Jim Dobbs submitted a letter of interest to serve on the Committee. The Committee recommended approval through email vote. The Board unanimously approved Jim Dobbs to be on the Marina Committee. Emergency Response: The Committee is using a boat that came loose in November as an example for exploring prevention and response of emergencies in BBV for both private and community docks. Security: Ralph Falk Chairman and representative: General Rule addition: The committee was asked by the Board to look into a rule for fishing. The committee recommends the following addition to the General Rules & Regulations: 17. Fishing: Fishing is not allowed on the Lakes, Ponds, or Docks, except that fishing is permitted past the blue line marked on the Marina Gas/ Pump-out/Guest Dock (by Lighthouse Park). When a boat approaches the Gas/Pump-out/ Guest Dock, the person(s) fishing must reel in their lines and give the boat the right of way. All children under 12 years old must wear a life jacket and be accompanied and supervised by an adult (18 years old or older). General Rule change: The committee also looked at the regulation for fires, garbage, and refuse; they decided to recommend separating the regulation and change the wording: 12.1 Fires: Outdoor fires may be considered a smoke nuisance or health hazard to neighbors; complaints made to Security or the Office will be promptly investigated to determine if the cited burning must cease immediately or if it can continue. Burning of lumber or any other construction materials is strictly prohibited. Only properly dried and seasoned wood may be burned outdoors. Outdoor fires shall be attended/guarded at all times. All burning must con- form to applicable government and Village regulations. A valid fire permit must be on-hand when such is required for outdoor burning. When a designated “burn ban” is in effect, the outdoor burning of any material whatsoever is prohibited. 12.2 Garbage, Refuse: No lot shall be used or maintained as a dumping ground for rubbish, refuse, or garbage. Household garbage shall be kept in closed containers. Composting is an acceptable means of on-site disposal of nontoxic organic waste. Incineration of any type of household refuse is prohibited. Disposal of household waste or any other type of refuse shall be the responsibility of the lot owner. New Business: General Rule Change for barcodes/decals: 4.3 Owners and Renters may enter the Village through the right lane at the Security Facility Gate, which is marked “Members”. In order to use the “Member” lane, residents must have a valid Barcode on their vehicle, which will open the gate automatically. Barcodes may be obtained by qualified owners/renters at the Club Office. A copy of current vehicle registration in the owners/renters name is required to receive a barcode. (Barcodes are non-transferable). For renters: a copy of the rental/lease agreement on file is required. For other occupants: the owners/renters Guest Card must list the person as “other occupant” and the address on the vehicle registration must match the owners/renters address. For company vehicles: proof of ownership of the company is required (e.g. business card, etc.). 4.9.2 Current Launch, Moorage or Entry decal must be attached to the boat and trailer. Decals must be obtained at the BBV Office with registration/ title in the owners/renters name (company trailers/boats must show proof of ownership of the company). 50-Year Anniversary date: A 50-year celebration for BBVCC is planned for 2016. The Board decided that August 13, 2016 would be a good date. Plans will be organized over the coming months. Manager’s Report: Ken Hoffer General Manager: Guest Cards: The Security Committee discussed ways to get members to update their Guest Cards. Page 10 The Office will add something to the June Packet reminding members to update their cards. Security Insurance: Pacific Security finally has insurance for their employees effective in January 2016. Pro Shop agreement: A new contract is in the works for the Pro Shop. Once the new contract is drafted it will be given to the Board for review and approval. Fire Suppression system: The shoreline substantial permit probably will not be necessary which will save BBV quite a bit of money and time. Dredging: Dredging is ready to go for January 7 and 8, 2016. Chair rack request: Ken Hoffer is going to order a small chair rack for the Clubhouse for the extra chairs that do not fit on the other rack. The chairs create a hazard when they are laid in the corner. BBV Foreclosure Sale: The foreclosed property should close any day now. Oversized Vessel: The attorney for the oversized vessel issue has one alteration, but the change shouldn’t be a big deal. Financials: The financials are through November not December. Only .62% of the dues are not paid. The statements show a loss of $14,000 on CD’s but that is only if they were closed and not carried to maturity. Bookkeeping is working with Edward Jones on changing how the statement looks. BBV budget is at 112% of income and 98% of expenses for 2015. Whatever is left will go into general reserves minus $200,000 into operating. Non-Compliance: Management is working on a Quinault property, and getting the attorney involved. Delinquent List: Most of the delinquent properties are being paid off; the delinquent list is down to a dozen properties. Action Items: Planting of trees at the lower gate needs to be added. Mike Peetoom is waiting on locates before digging the trench. CLASSIFIEDS FOR SALE: SHARP portable typewriter, room air conditioner, zero gravity massage chair, stainless steel water distiller-7 gal.
