MUMBAI: Fans of Bigg Boss are eagerly waiting for its ninth edition to get rolling.
Hosted by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for the sixth consecutive time, the
show is slated to be back in October, with a brand new 'Double Trouble' theme.
Each year, the show has never run short of any controversy, with various rumours
and squabbles surrounding it. The show, which goes on Air for about 90 days on
Viacom 18 Network's Colors channel, features popular faces, one of who
eventually wins the show.
This year around, for its fans, the Bigg Boss show is possibly going to be part of
a big controversy even before it begins. As per exclusive information available to
Mumbai Messenger, Muhammad Ramzi Sid, an Australian, brought up in
Afghanistan, has alleged that he shared the 'Double Trouble' idea with Viacom 18
Network's Jessu George, a few months before the show promos begun. He claims
that his idea was taken without his consent and implemented in the show.
Muhammad Ramzi, is known back for his own reality show in Afghanistan and is

MALAD AND GOREGAON RESIDENTS GET RENOVATED VENUE
FOR GANESH VISARJAN AS LAKE AT KURAR VILLAGE BECOMES
ODOUR-FREE
Mewati Sitaram
GOREGAON: Ganesh devotees of
Ku ra r v i l l a g e , D i n d o s h i a n d
surrounding area of Goregaon and
Malad East have a reason to cheer. Dr
Babasaheb Ambedkar Talav (Lake)
located on national highway in Kurar
Village at Malad East has been made
odour-free. Due to negligence of
MHADA, this lake turned completely
green and used to stink very badly.
The local residents were fed up of the
foul smell and mosquito breeding
ground. They wrote many letters to
MHADA, the caretaker for the lake.
Despite several complaints, MHADA
could not do anything.
Fed up with negligence, local
residents approached Shiv Sena MLA
Sunil Prabhu with their grievances. He
took initiative on priority basis.
Keeping in mind the gravity of the issue
and the festive time, he, along with the
BMC officials inspected the lake. He
instructed the BMC officials to make
the lake stink free and proper
arrangements for Ganpati Visarjan. His
efforts bore fruit and the lake is
provided with oxygenized water supply
with regular interval. The supply of
oxygenized water turned out to be a
saviour for the lake, which is now clear.
The odour and green layer on the
water is a thing of the past. The
officials also promised to take technical
experts advise to sort out this issue
permanently by installing water
filtration plants.
It may be noted that Dr Ambedkar
Lake was renovated about two years
ago by MLA fund provided by former
MLA Rajhans Singh's fund. Due to
concretization of waterbed of the lake,
natural resource of water from the
ground level was completely stopped.
It caused birth of unwanted dirty
species in the lake due to which water
turned green and started stinking.
Sunil Prabhu, Local MLA, speaking
to Mumbai Messenger said, “MHADA
has been unable to take care of the
lake properly, due to which it has
turned bad. If this lake is handed over
to the BMC, maintenance would be
easier.”
Prabhu elaborated, “I have already
spoken to Chief Minister Devendra
Fadanvis and BMC Commissioner Ajoy
Mehta to handover this lake to the

BMC. I am constantly in touch with
concerned officials and following it up
by writing letters to handover this lake
to BMC. We are optimistic that it would
soon be done.”
Anil Balkrishna Patil, a local resident
says, “It is a good initiative by Prabhu
saheb. Long-term difficulty faced by
local residents has been attended to.
We are optimistic and sure that his
initiative will not just remain for
Ganpati Visarjan, but this relief would
be of permanent nature.”
Bhartiya Janata Party's (BJP) National President Amit Shah visited Mumbai along with Mumbai BJP President and Bandra
MLA Advocate Ashish Shelar on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi and Jain Paryushan on September 17. During the visit, they
were presented with a Letter of Invitation to visit Texas, USA as State Guests during upcoming Navratri and Diwali
Festivals. The Letter of Invitation, on behalf of Mr. Carlos Cascos-Secretary of State, Texas, USA, was presented by

also popular for his Vines and comic videos on social media
platform.
Muhammad Ramzi Sid claims that he contacted Jessu
George via Facebook on August 1, where Muhammad Ramzi
Sid expressed his desire to be part of the show along with his
sister Rohina Sid. “Jessu George had read the message I sent
him on Facebook and he read it instantly and started typing
but for some reason, did not reply,” said Muhammad Ramzi.
According to Sid, the message he sent to George on
Facebook was about the idea of having two contestants, Sid
and his sister Rohina participating as one team, which
apparently seems to be the idea behind the 'Double Trouble'
theme of Season 9. “Bigg Boss used this format soon after I
discussed the idea with the producer. How did this happen?”
said Muhammad Ramzi.
Muhammad Razmi is a big fan of the reality show Bigg
Boss and has always wanted to be part of it. “If I wanted I
could be a part of Big Brother in Australia but my love for
Bollywood and India is immense. So I learnt Hindi for two
years so that there is no language barrier, when I come to
India. I wanted to be a contestant on Bigg Boss and hence I
wrote to Mr. George,” expressed Muhammad Razmi. “Mr.
George read my message and maybe has used my idea but if
he has done so he should at least give me the credit. But he
has chosen to ignore,” he added.
Sid also said that he is not very sure whether the producer
of the show stole the idea from him but the fact that Jessu
George is not clarifying could mean that he is using the idea
that Sid gave him. “I am not hundred percent sure if Jessu
George has taken the idea from me but if he has not then he
should just clarify with me whether he did so or not. Did he
start his Bigg Boss Season 9 project before I gave him the
idea or later?” questioned Sid. He added, “And if he decides to
clarify and let me know about it, I would want him to give me
the evidence as well. I was not born yesterday to accept it, if
he just verbally says anything. I need evidence.”
This Mumbai Messenger correspondent consistently tried
to get in touch with the Bigg Boss team till the time of going to
Press. However, all attempts proved futile. On one occasion,
this correspondent also got through the number of Jessu
George, who could not hear anything after hearing out the
correspondent. Thereafter, he did not reply to repeated calls.

BANDRA: Ave Maria! Is the chant you
would hear if you walked from
Mehboob Studio, Bandra west; which
is at the bottom of the hill, till the
Mount Mary Basilica on top last week.
The weeklong Bandra fair that
culminated on September 21
witnessed a footfall of million pilgrims
coming from far and wide. And this
year too, there were more pilgrims of
other faiths coming to venerate Mother
Mary and to have a fun time in the
entertaining Fair.
So, what was different in this year's
Bandra Fair? Were there any
improvements? Or were there any
changes implemented? Well like every
year, even this year each day of the Fair
began with pilgrims coming right from
4am and strolling till late midnight. And
for these night lovers, the bandobast
was strengthened. This year there
were more police personnel both on
duty and surveillance to maintain
peace and ensure security. There were
female constables at the end of the Fair
to not allow women to enter through
the same gate as that gate was only
used as an exit point. At various
junctions like- at the start of the
Mount, amidst the stalls on the Mount,
in the church compound, between the
stalls in the fair and in the market near
September Garden, there were police
personnel stationed with a small office
to manage and control the crowd.
The BEST bus service from Bandra
west station till the Mount was
commendable in terms of frequency
and service. Number of buses were
more this year as compared to last year
and traffic was not caused as the buses
took another route while returning to
Bandra station. There were special
buses till midnight to ferry the pilgrims
from the fair till Bandra station.
In terms of maintenance of crowd
and managing the visitors, the NSS
team of students of St. Andrew's
College and other Help groups worked
round the clock in coordination with
the police. Also, special barricades and
partitions for men and women were
established to avoid chaos and
inconvenience. The basilica was
beautifully decorated with colourful
flowers, commemorating the theme of
the year –'Care for Creation' as per the
Pope's appeal.
And then comes the bazaar of food
and entertainment- The loud noisy and
lively Fair! This year the prices were
high as 250 grams of any eatery costs
at least Rs. 60-80, be it simple Chana
or sweets. There were few traditional
stalls selling Goan and Malvan
specialities while a wide range of stalls
serving the regular sweets and
foodstuff. This year more than food;
clothes and accessories attracted huge
chunk of the crowd as the patch below
the steps of the Fair was entirely
covered by these stalls. A wide range
of garments, footwear, accessories,
cosmetics and bags were available.
And last but not the least,
'September Garden' was a blast this
year too as the huge giant wheel and
innovative games attracted all age
groups right form toddlers to senior
citizens to enjoy together as one
family. Moreover, the surprising rains
added both joy and chaos to the whole
drama of entertainment. Truly, it was a
blessing in disguise!

BEWARE OF
CYBER CRIMES
SECURITY EXPERTS WARN AGAINST RESPONDING TO ANY E-MAIL, PHONE CALL
REQUESTING NET BANKING DETAILS LIKE PIN, PASSWORD, ACCOUNT NUMBER
OR CREDIT/ DEBIT CARD DETAILS
Janhavi Samant
ANDHERI: 'Andheri resident loses 4.6 lakh due to
online phishing' - these are not just newsworthy
headlines, but unfortunately a recurrent crime in
the Internet-era we live in. With increasing
financial payments being made online, more and
more people are becoming victims of cybercrimes.
Phishing scams are typically fraudulent email
messages appearing to have come from legitimate
enterprises (e.g. your bank, your internet service
provider). These messages usually direct you to a
spoofed website or otherwise get you to divulge
private information like debit/credit card details,
passwords, bank account details. The perpetrators
then use this private information to commit
identity theft.
Most common type of phishing attempt is an
email message from your bank stating that you are
receiving it due to fraudulent activity on your
account, and asking you to "click here" to verify
your information, said an officer attached with the
Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai police. “So, you
click on the link which is a fake or the spoofed
website. Here you actually key in your personal
details. When you click on ok, you don't realize
that your user name and password has gone to the
phisher,” said the officer. The phisher then uses
these details to transfer money to his account.
Cyber security expert, Vijay Mukhi said that one
disturbing fact is that a phishing attack can be
done from any part of the world. “Most phishing
attacks will never occur from the country itself.
When the authorities finally catch on, the money
trail leads to an empty bank account with the cash
already having being withdrawn,” he said.
Another cyber security expert warned not to
respond to any e-mail, phone call requesting your
Net Banking details like your PIN, password,
Account number or Credit/ Debit Card details.
“Immediately forward this to your bank. None of
the banks will ever ask you to divulge any
confidential information over e-mail or phone call,”
said the expert.
However, the cyber security is being beefed up
by the police and the banks and other
organisations. All the banks send regular e-mails
to their customers asking them to beware of such
scams and what should be done in case they
receive such a fake e-mail.
HOW TO PREVENT PHISHING:
· In case of doubt, do not click on any link provided
in the e-mail.
· Do not give any confidential information such as
password, customer id, Credit/Debit Card number
or PIN, CVV, DOB to any e-mail request, even if the
request is from government authorities like
Income Tax department / Reserve Bank of India or
any Card Association company like VISA or
MasterCard.
· Do not open unexpected e-mail attachments or
instant message download links.
· Always check the web address carefully before
sharing any sensitive information.
For logging in, always type the website address
(e.g. www.abcd.com) on your web browser.
· The Padlock icon at the upper or bottom right
corner of the webpage must be always 'On' during
secure transactions.
· Ensure that you have installed the latest antivirus/ anti-spyware/ personal firewall/ security
patches on your computer or high end mobile
phones.
· Do not access Net Banking or make payments
using your Credit/ Debit Card from shared or
unprotected computers in public places.
· Do not call and leave any personal or account
details on any telephone system, voice message,
e-mail or an SMS.
· Do not transfer funds to or share your account
details with, unknown/ non-validated source,
luring you with commission, attractive offers.

SOON, NEW STREETLIGHTS
TO BRIGHTEN SUBURB
LOCAL MLA AMEET SATAM HAS BEEN FIGHTING FOR BETTER STREET LIGHTING SINCE
TWO YEARS AS THE LOCALITY IS NOT WELL LIT AT MANY PLACES
SM KABEER/MM
ANDHERI: Andheri West is all set to become the brightest
locality in Mumbai with the Brihanmumbai Municipal
Corporation (BMC) approving the plan to improve its
street lighting. The BMC recently approved the plan for
the pilot project and will be conducting a survey of
illumination levels in the area. The civic body will then
take necessary steps to improve and increase the street
lighting.
Bhartiya Janata Party's MLA Ameet Satam has been
following up the issue with the concerned municipal
commissioners since nearly two years now. The MLA had
sat on a hunger strike in January 2014 to demand better
street lighting. He broke the hunger strike after seven
days after the then municipal commissioner Sitaram
Kunte assured him that the civic body would look into the
matter.
Recently he met the Municipal Commissioner Ajoy
Mehta who then gave a go ahead for the plan. Satam said
that he has been fighting for better street lighting since
two years as the locality is not well lit at many places. This
has also led to increase in instances of crime in various
areas.
Also poor lighting on the streets is a hazard for
motorists and pedestrians. Illumination given by the
street lighting is measured in 'lux' units. Average of the
illumination should be between 8 to 15 lux depending on
the width of the road.
A survey that was recently carried out revealed that
the illumination in Andheri (W) was below the standard
level. Some areas fell short by over 30%, said a BMC
officer. After the survey, it has been decided that street
light poles would be added wherever there are dark
patches. One of the BMC officers confirmed that, “The
existing street lights will be cleaned which have gathered
dirt. And where required more street light poles would be
added.”
Seetanand Shinge (SIDDA), this year has reduced his
Ganpati festivities from 11 to 7 days. This has been
done to accommodate the Muslim brothers who
would be doing Qurbani for Eid as the space in the
building is a constrain.
The old bulbs in the streetlights and even the road
widening is seen as a major contributor to decreased
illumination levels. There are places where the light poles
are too high or they are covered by trees. The issue of less
illumination in Andheri was also raised in the state
assembly in March this year where Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis had then ordered that a survey be
conducted across Mumbai to check lux levels. This survey
was to be conducted by the BMC with the help of IIT
Bombay and citizens' groups. However, the survey is yet
to begin.
ANDHERI SKYWALK
WOES FAR FROM OVER
Janhavi Samant
ANDHERI: The Andheri Skywalk that connects
Andheri railway station and Andheri metro
station is back in news for its poor
maintenance. The intermittent rains in the city
have exposed the poor quality work done by
the concerned officials and contractor.
“The tiles have come out and rain water
gets accumulated. It becomes very difficult for
commuters to walk without soiling our clothes.
The other day, I was rushing for a meeting
when I accidentally stepped into the puddle
ruining my shoes and trousers,” said Meeta
Triwari, a marketing executive staying in
Versova.
According to the pedestrians who regularly
use the Andheri skywalk, that connects the
Andheri railway station to its metro station, the
problem of the tiles has been there for the last
few months.
"It becomes difficult to dodge the puddles
in peak hours when everyone is in a hurry to
catch trains. It is surprising that none of the
authorities have bothered to get it repaired
with the suburb having a large number of
commuters," said Shreya Badola, a resident of
Seven Bungalows who regularly takes metro
train to her workplace in Ghatkopar.
Earlier commuters had demanded that the
authorities conduct monthly maintenance of
the skywalk. Badola said, "Considering it is built
for the pedestrians and to ease their commute,
it should be maintained properly."
She added that the skywalk is also poorly lit
most of the times creating additional problem
for the pedestrians. “Most of the time, the
lamps are not functional. Dim lighting makes it
further difficult for us to use the skywalk. We
have to manage with our cell phone lights if we
are using the skywalk in the night,” Badola said.
SM KABEER/MM
Janhavi Samant
The skywalk was constructed by Mumbai
Metropolitan Region Development Authority
(MMRDA) and was open for public in 2010. It
was then handed over to the Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corporation (BMC) for maintenance
work.
According to sources, the work is getting
delayed as the authorities are passing the buck
and holding each other responsible for the
work. On condition of anonymity, a BMC official
said that since the time MMRDA has handed
over the skywalk, there has been a problem.
“The work quality is poor. It is MMRDA's
responsibility to book their contract for poor
quality of work and get the work done again.
The BMC should not be held responsible for
the same,” said the road department official
from BMC.
An MMRDA deputy engineer, who also did
not to be named said that they received a few
complaints on the tiles and poor lights. "There
is a jurisdiction problem. We are trying to get it
resolved. We will look into it and fix it on an
expeditious basis," he said.
Until bureaucracy gets their act sorted, it is
unlikely that the commuters will find any quick
resolution of their problems.

RIP Jagmohan Dalmiya:
Visionary, Father of
INDIAN CRICKET
The Higher Education
SUMMIT BY CII
INDIA'S ROAD-MAP TO THE TOP 100 UNIVERSITIES OF THE WORLD
BRAINSTORMED UPON
K V Raman
With his unexpected death Jagmohan Dalmiya, the BCCI President, has
not only created a void extremely difficult to be filled in, but has also saddened the cricket fraternity.
Undoubtedly, he was a visionary and the father of Indian cricket and worked towards the growth of
cricket in India. Needless to stress Dalmiya positioned Indian Cricket at the global level and guided
Indian cricket into superior heights.
Though we need not categorize populace into Good and Bad – there was someone who was doing
that job very well. Alas, Jagmohan is now with HIM and a lot could be learnt from his life. Following his
death, the BCCI has a lot of incomplete work. Vested financial interests of too many people seem to drag
the BCCI to eternity. Those who now live to administer it, will carry on to live with it until they are offered
RIP. When will we ever realize this fact of LIFE?

of Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra), Shri Vidyasagar Rao (Hon’able Governor of
Maharashtra), Ninad Karpe (Chairman of CII), Sheena Khara (Deputy Director, CII)
MUMBAI: It was an atmosphere of enthusiasm
and inspiration as roadmaps to India's journey to
becoming the centre of Higher education in the
world were deliberated upon at, The First Ever
'Higher Education Summit' organized by CII at
the Taj Vivanta, Mumbai.
The summit was graced by Governor of
Maharashtra Vidyasagar Rao, and Minister of
Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra
Vinod Tawde, Ninad Karpe, Chairman of CII and
Dr Ajeenkya D Y Patil, President Ajeenkya D Y Patil
University and Chairman of D Y Patil group.
Industry Leaders, Educational Reformers and
policy Makers alike from across India and the
world gathered on a single platform to brainstorm
on innovations to chart out India's journey to
becoming the capital of Higher Educational
Excellence.
Visionary Educational Reformer, Dr Ajeenkya D
Y Patil said “I thank CII for giving me the
opportunity to be a part of this Breakthrough
gathering. The Indian Education system is the
finest in the subcontinent and has produced
quality graduates, working in top institutions like
NASA and serving as world class surgeons. Yet
there was once a golden era when India was
known as the centre of Educational excellence,
when people from around the world came to India
to seek knowledge. The time has come to
embrace this title once again. New Research,
Radical Thinkers, inventions and innovations that
create an impact at a global level are the need of
the hour. Educational institutions and industries
have to come together to work together towards
this singular vision.”
Increasing the output of research from
institutions seemed to be a common call to the
gathering. Vidyasagar Rao said “India has the
potential to turn itself into the capital of Education
in the world. A study into the working of the top
universities in the world will tell us that every
institution has at it's disposal, significant industry
aided funding dedicated to research and
development which constantly increases the
university's value. This platform is an ideal
gathering to debate and deliberate on creating a
strong collaboration between universities and
industries.”
Vinod Tawde said “Progress in Higher
education has rapidly increased in the past two
decades and had led to Low Cost college
education available to all. Despite progress, higher
education in India is still not the best. To compete
with the global players, education institutions
must first overcome the crutch of poor research.
This can only be achieved through science led
innovation and efficient resourcing of funding.”
Ninad Karpe Chairman of CII said, “It is
essential for us to lay sufficient emphasis on
higher education to create skilled labour of value
to the industry. India has a major demographic
dividend, with a large young workforce infused
with energy waiting to be guided in the right
direction. This gathering here is sure to pave the
way to instilling policies and creating roadmaps to
achieving the worthy goal of harnessing this
demographic. Through policy impetus and
Industry-institution partnership we are sure to see
many of institutions stand tall in the Top 100
universities of the world.”
It was a packed gathering rich with fresh minds
both young, and plush with wisdom as corporate
and students alike attended this gathering to carry
forward the breakthrough ideas shared at the
event.
India is a cricket crazy country. Our passion for Cricket is such
that no other nation can match. We do anything and everything
that one can think of as a cricket fan to show our love for cricket.
Pocket News Alert also loves Cricket. Cricket forms a part of our
life. Yes, we are cricket fanatics! Here is Pocketnewsalert.com list
of craziest things we do for the love of cricket:
Lucky Charm: We feel it makes India win if we have it with us
be it a cap, a T-shirt. We go to such extremes such as changing
the position of the TV as per Vaastu so as for India to win.
Sometimes it works, the other times we say the match was fixed.
Pray for Cricket: No match of India can begin without a prayer. They say "Pray and it will be
answered". We take it to the next level, Fans actually conduct special poojas and havans before India
plays a match. We may not be all that religious in daily life, but when it comes to cricket we'll worship
anything and everything that can assure us a win.
Get Glued to TV: When India is playing, we get glued to our TVs and nothing can separate us, even
natures call can wait for an inning until drinks are served. If we are out on the road we get glued to
electronic stores where cricket matches are displayed and we don't mind standing out there for hours at
a stretch.
Copy Their Style: Be it your favourite cricketers hairstyle, or his clothing style or even his playing stylewe love to follow it all, and whenever we get a chance we also show off the style.

SUBURBAN STUDENTS BAG
DECLAMATION COMPETITION
Mewati Sitarm
NERUL: Students of leading schools of
Mumbai participated in declamation
competition organized by AISM which was held
at Poddar International School Nerul, Navi
Mumbai. Forty seven schools from all over
Maharashtra took part.
Keeping in large numbers of students
participating from all over Maharashtra, the
competition was divided into two divisions
namely juniors and seniors. The students from
eighth and tenth standard participated in the
event. Narina Fernandes, President and Perin
Bagli, Secretary of AISM were personally
present to guide them.
In the competition, students were asked to
speak on prominent personalities like Swami
Vivekanand, Dr APJ Kalam and Malala Yusuf
Karzai. The competition could see the prominent
personalities of Education world who judged the
event. The judges included Odil Maderia,
Juliana Shukla, Sujata Ramesh, Luisa Pereira
and Parimal Alok.
In the junior category Shreya Punjabi, a
student of Arya Vidya Mandir, Juhu, was on first
position and Ishan Chatterjee from
Lokhandwala Foundation was on second
position. Similarly, in senior category Riya
Sharma from Bombay Scottish School was on
first position and Sharnam Vaswani from
Jamnabai Nursee School was on second
position.
Zeenat Bhojabhoy, Principal Jamnabai
Narsee School says, “Students benefit from a
wide variety of speech and debate events. It
boosts their morale as they are addressing a large
gathering. It is a proud moment not only for
Sharnam but our school too. Speech and debate
makes students a better speaker. They connect
with people better because they are able to
communicate in a clearer way.”
The declamation is effectively a speaking
competition like a debate. But it can be poetry,
debating an argument for or against something.
The speaker is judged not just by content, but by
performance as well. In declamation the student
is given the matter and he/ she has to speak that
on the stage in front of the audience. Marks are
given on the expressions and the way the student
speaks.
Students bring history to life- literally- by
delivering a speech that has been delivered by
someone else. From the historical greats to
contemporary public orations, students have 10
minutes to perform a memorized speech with an
introduction. Topics can vary widely based on
the interest of the student. The goal of
Declamation is for the student to perform
another speaker's message in their own voice.

SM KABEER/MM
After his remark on APJ Abdul Kalam that the late former
President "was a nationalist despite being a Muslim' created a
row, Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma has created
another controversy by saying that girls wanting a night out is
not acceptable in India."Girls wanting a night out may be all
right elsewhere but it is not part of Indian culture," Sharma
said. So REYNOLD D'SA asked young Mumbaikars what
they think of the Union Culture Minister's comments...
KHUSHBOO, 18: Why does he think that
a boy going for night out is okay? If you
want to question, you might as well
question both the sexes. We have no idea
when are the ministers going to stop
saying such things. What do they achieve
after doing this?
PRATHA GARG, 20: The girls are equally
educated and competing at every level.
They have equal opportunity at work place
and other wise, so why would a minister
want to discriminate on the basis of culture
and heritage. Girls should be allowed to
roam freely wherever they want and
whenever they want.
SUKRUT PACH PANDEY, 18: Indian
culture is changing constantly at every level.
There was a time when women were not
allowed to go out or even go to school and
burning them alive in the form Sati was very
much a part of the Indian culture. So are we
still supposed to go back to those times?
Change is permanent and we need to
accept it.
SNEHA, 18: This is something wrong said
by the minister. The girls have an equal
right to do what they please. If in today's
day and time he is going to make such
comments he is going to be very popular
with the youth and he is anyways known to
make such absurd comments.
POOJA, 19: Are the ministers these days
finding it difficult to see women grow in
every aspect of life? And are trying or
wanting to control women by saying
something like this. I think they should
ideally just concentrate in making India a
better country and not be bothered what
the girls are doing and the boys are doing.
LUQMEN PARKAR, 21: India as a
country on the whole should just stop being
sexist. The ministers of the country are
being hypocrite, when on one hand they
say equal opportunities should be provided
for girls so that they help the nation to
become a developed nation and on the
other hand they make some stupid
comments like this.
SOHAN TOHLE, 19: India is a free
country, which obviously means that an
individual irrespective of their gender have
the freedom to do whatever they want,
whenever they want without breaking the
law of the land. Discriminating on the basis
of gender is really uncalled for.
PRANAV TOHOLE, 19: Is he trying to
protect the culture or is he trying to push it
down the throat of the rest of India. This
minister has been involved in a lot of
controversies. We should just let him be and
not let his opinions bother us but at the
same time the government should take
necessary steps to see to it that he doesn't
keep repeating this.
ROHAN BAVISKAR 21: Girls night out or
boy's night out both are not a part of our
culture, so if he is discriminating on the
basis of gender he is wrong. A night out is
not gender oriented. If a person wants to
go out for a night out he should go, doesn't
matter if he is a boy or a girl.
DEEPIKA PADUKONE
Deepika Padukone, for more than a decade has been known to the world as the cleancut and supremely talented actor in the multi-billion-dollar Bollywood Industry.
Padukone's story acquires a Cinderella-like attribute. Hers was a beginning only fairytales
have the script to uphold. A debut with the nation's superstar– Deepika couldn't have
asked for more. So, when we talk of Miss Padukone, the actress, we think of the dainty
yet tall heroine who made her debut in Bollywood with a grand movie and a grander
debut, she was hailed as the next superstar and went on to bag the 'Best Debutante –
Female' trophies at all the award shows that year, so much so, that she is still called
'Shantipriya' by a particular section of people and, ever since, Deepika Padukone has
steadily risen to the zenith of Tinsel town's soaring peaks of success.
She continues to win hearts by associating herself with watchable films, evident by
the response to her most recent releases, and, lest we forget, the excitement encircling
the upcoming movies which promises to be yet another feather in her already feathered
cap. She was hovered over by some darker clouds, but as she has always been – the
fighter, she emerged as the winner, time and again. In mid-2012, she was back
energised, stronger and shining like never before. If there has to be invented a moniker
for the year 2013, it will surely be called the 'Deepika Padukone Year' where she
established herself as the “hero” of the Indian Film Industry. This was the time when
everything Deepika touched turned to Gold. A sex symbol, a style icon, a columnist, a
feminist and what not! Deepika Padukone is this all and much more. Deepika is strong minded and very communicative and an intellectual
person yet very emotional who gets hurt easily but wouldn't show it to the world.
Cards show these days she is emotionally disturbed and hesitant in conveying her point and talks with the filter on so as to not fall in
unwanted controversies. She is advised to let go of her past experiences and move on to focus on much important things in her life. Cards
foretell her career is going to be historic and is a time where she needs to enjoy her journey. Year 2016 is going to shower her with a bagful of
worthy roles. Cards also suggest her to start her own business related to Media and Entertainment from July, 2016 which will turn out to be a
successful venture. From January 2016, luck is in favour of Deepika and if she is interested, this is a good time for buying/ selling of property.
She is recommended to not ignore and take care of her health primarily from now so as to not develop it into a serious health issue. Months
October to December of year 2016 will be travelling and bonding time with the family as they will crave to spend time with her...Cards show
that she should concentrate more on her career and not let her love relation and other distractions make her wander on her path. Year 2017
will not be great for her love life as there will be constant conflicts which will make her unhappy and hurt her emotionally. From December,
2016 to mid of year 2017; cards advise her sternly to take utmost care regarding health, work, relation, investment or any significant
judgments to avoid unnecessary trouble and take wise decisions. As the sultry actress celebrates her success, we wish her happier times
ahead and continue to shine bright forever finishing this article with her very own WORDS OF WISDOM to be quoted: 'Live well, laugh often
and love much.'

Shabana Azmi's tribute to Kaifi Azmi
Bollywood's most talented and popular actor Shabana Azmi needs to

Your current projects...
Currently its just Jhalak dikhla Jaa. I always take
on one project at a time so that I can give my
best to it.
On your entry in Jhalak Dikhla Ja...
It's a great reality show and I've always wanted
to be a part of the show. Am glad am getting this
opportunity. I love to dance and it couldn't get
better.
Do you think you have an advantage over
others who have been there before you?
Everyone comes in with their own destiny. Its
about knowing yourself well, the confidence and
poise you come with. Everyone has an
advantage and disadvantage. Its how you deal
with them.
How are you preparing for the show?
I've been rehearsing nonstop and its tiring but I
just want to make sure I give it my very best. Its
not easy to try new dance forms but its
challenging and fun.
What is your 'winning mantra' during the
show?
Do your best and just concentrate on yourself.
Never underestimate anyone.
What is your take on the judges of the
show?
I love them all. They have all earned a high
degree of respect in their fields and to be judged
by them means a lot. I love Karan Johar and I
wish he was around to watch a few of my
performances too.
What are your views about reality shows
in India?
They are evolving and its changed the face of
Indian television a great deal in the last few
years.
You have always maintained you would
never do a show like Big Boss... why is
that so?
I don't have the patience for it plus I do not want
to make my life an open book for the entire
world.
How do you feel television has evolved
through the years?
Its become less regressive which is good. We
needed it. There is a lot of positivity to shows
these days and it's a welcome change.
Will you be entering Bollywood in the
future?
I am ready to hope the makers are listening.
There is so much scope for women oriented
cinema these days I am hoping I get to do a few.
What is one role you would want to play in
Bollywood and why...?
The role of Kangana Ranaut in Queen. It would
be both, challenging and fun.
Which role has been closest to your heart
and why?
None that I've done so far but close to it would
be the role of Urmi post the working phase in her
life.
On how Mumbai has changed your life...
Mumbai is my bread and butter. It has brought
about so many positive changes in my life. It has
given me a name, identity, a house and
everything else a girl could ask for.
Where do you see yourself five years from
now?
Having two kids, doing good work and taking
care of my family.
On the freshers entering the
industry...your views...
They are good and they are lucky so many
shows are being made these days. There is a
huge scope for them.
Your philosophy of life...
Live and let live.

Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village:
Ruins-to -restoration
How would you feel walking in a village having ancient
houses, palaces, shrines and street-markets having an oldworld charm? The Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village in Manipal is
on its way to give us this experience. The goal is to restore
and conserve the nation's cultural wealth found in the form
of structures and other artefacts, some as old as hundred
years.
It is not yet opened to public. But we got access to it as
the unique two-storeyed 'Kunjur' house in the village that
belongs to my friend Jayshreee's ancestors. I also got a
chance to meet Vijaynath Chenoy, whose brain-child this
project is. According to him, 26 structures of architectural
merit and fine craftsmanship are relocated through the
process of restoration under the Trust formed by him. Each
structure has an interesting restoration story behind it.
While touring the village, I spotted different houses
portraying rounded wooden pillars, carved entrances, ethnic
designs, ingenious methods of building, simple approach
and fine craftsmanship. It made me marvel at the vision and
wisdom of the folks who relied more on their intuition rather
than technology. I lost myself in the
restored parts of Kamal Mahal of
Kukanoor that had extremely intricate
carvings on the ceilings. The vibrantly
colourful carpets in Deccani Nawab
Mahal was uplifting for the spirit. I
found Harihar Mandir, a shrine built in
fourth century , restored extremely
well.
Darshana Doshi
Then we loitered in the street
markets that sported a traditional barbershop, radio,
gramophone and typewriter repair shops and a bangle shop.
The craft bazaar where the wares like terracotta pots, pickle
jars, enamel ware, etc were lined up outside the shops lent a
unique character to the market.
When I entered the Ganjifa Gallery, I felt as excited as a
child to see handmade playing –cards for the first time. A
special blend of exquisite painting and craft, the cards got
popularity in 16th century under the rule of King Akbar. The
cards also created a pious atmosphere besides entertaining
as while dealing the cards, players used to
chant their deity's names! Thinking of how

DE- LIGHT-FULL a Solo Art Show
After presenting a series of inspiring and astonishing artworks at various exhibitions in
India and several countries of the world, Indian contemporary artist Swaraj Das bring you
his current series of works, 'DE- LIGHT-FULL', a solo painting exhibition viewing various
shades of life in colors. This is being held from September 22 – 28, at Jehangir Art Gallery,
Kala Ghoda.
Swaraj Das was born in 1983 in Kolkata, Upon noticing a glimpse of artistic talent in him
at an early age, Swaraj has come up as one with the contemporary painters of unique
promise and repute. His original expression and skill as a painter has earned a remarkable
position especially in the legendary arena of Indian art. Tireless in his work, he never feels
fatigued in fulfilling the demand of his soul.
His work aims at capturing various colors, phases and moods, from streets narrowed
by building-blocks, morning light, monsoon, afternoon, midday and a lot more to do with
various aspects of life and nature. His paintings are on canvas and paper, using
transparent water color, acrylic and oil techniques and mediums. His different visions of
cities, villages and its people are manifesting themselves in melting and overlapping
colors. His shapes transform into shapelessness, his use of colors transmute into one constant. He has deconstructed images
in order to create them anew. Thus, Swaraj continually searches for the peace through chaos, for the concrete through
abstraction, for the reality through the unreal.
The sense of using space, soft muted colors, strong light, mysterious moods in weather all add up to an original
interpretation of water color and his extreme inner peace and dedication to this medium.

23rd Solo Exhibition
by Artist Musarrat
Following a successful solo exhibition at
London's Nehru Centre Art Gallery in 2010, and
at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2013,
Musarrat Masters returns with a collection of her
vibrant canvases to Mumbai for her 23rdt Solo
Exhibition 'Inspirational Strokes'. She brings her
works to Mumbai once again. This will be held
from September 18 – 24 from 10am to 10pm at
Gallery Leela, Hotel Leela, Andheri East.
Inspirational Strokes will feature some 20
pieces which focus on the beauty and poise of
the equine and female forms all rendered in Musarrat's signature style. Every piece
in this show exudes imagination and teems with colour and movement. Her
maturity as an artist is distinctly evident in her handling of the subjects and her
unique technique which has evolved through a thorough understanding of her
subjects. The canvasses command attention and draw the viewer into a world of
possibilities, offering new perspectives.
Musarrat
works in both
abstract and representational
styles. Informed by Cubism,
Musarrat's images are not always
as we expect. The Artist's eye
floats to create unique
perspectives and compositions of
familiar subjects resulting in
different visual sensations. At first
glance, Musarrat's work is vaguely
abstract, but when the eye follows
the powerful strokes distinct forms
begin to emerge. The layered
strokes slowly morph into the
figures of horses heads or female
bodies. Her paintings are easily
understood and appreciated by
anyone who encounters them.

candid talk with Senior Journalist and
Hospitality Columnist MEWATI SITARAM...
What type of Cuisine do you love being
associated with?
Every chef has his own style and speciality
cuisine. Though I have mastered in every
specialty cuisine, I enjoy cooking regional
Maharastrian food and western
food the most. I try
implementing in the muchappreciated F&B venues at The
Westin Mumbai. Farming being
his hobby and passion he takes a
keen interest in selecting the
fresh produce for the kitchens at
Westin Mumbai.
Was anyone from the family
in the hotel industry?
When I started my career, there
were none from my family in the
industry. My family is full of
architects. I took the nontreaded path, so to speak and I
feel I am happiest person to be
associated with it. Now many of
my family members approach
me for guidance. I really feel proud of it.
Who inspired you to join the
profession?
My mother's prolific cooking inspired me to
get into the kitchen. I loved helping her make
various dishes. My mother taught me to cook
a few basic dishes at home when I was in
school. She enjoys good quality ingredients
and frequents local markets for fresh
ingredients.
Have you ever planned on being in the
cooking profession?
Cooking came easy to me but I had different
ambitions at that time. After class XII, I
decided I wanted to become a professional
chef. Whilst at hotel Management College, I
chanced upon a book – 'White Heat' by the
great Marco Pierre White. I think across the
world hundreds of young chefs must have
found their inspiration by seeing the candid
photos and the honest writing in it. The book
singlehandedly altered my destiny.
Who inspired you in the profession and
what did you learn?
I have had the good fortune to be tutored by

fortunate to work with two great chefs, Chef
Matthew Cropp and Chef Ajay. I enjoyed their

culinary. They both had attention to detail,
cuisine focus, building a great team, speed of
execution and a passion to excel. I am
indebted to them for adding value to my
learning and I am a better professional
because of them.
What do you think it takes to succeed in
this industry?
One needs to be passionate, followed by
diligence, patience and innovation. One has
to make a lot of sacrifice in this trade.
What are your plans for Westin to take
it to the next level?
Westin is a wellness brand. We have
Superfoods® as a brand program that
focuses on wellness foods and one of the six
pillars of Westin – Eat well. We rely on
innovation, training, technology and best
sourced ingredients – local or worldwide to
offer to our guests. We have three dining
venues that are popular dining destinations –
Seasonal Tastes, Kangan and Prego.
Noteworthy achievements during
career...
The ability to bring a smile to our diners and
earning their loyalty and appreciation is the
most noteworthy achievement in my career.
Any message to aspiring chefs?
Cook a lot and enjoy the process. Respect
fellow cooks and kitchen staff. Master the
basics. Travel as much as you can - eat and
read on the journey. If you're not in it for the
passion, there are other choices in life.
Your ultimate goal...
If a life has a goal, it is to exist. To exist is to
be distinct. The unique, and individuality
supports a need of my existence. Through
such existence, the goal is to fulfilling my
potential. I believe that everyone has the
same ultimate goal in life and that is to have
the good life. My ultimate goal is to run a
little farm and a café in a faraway, obscure
place.

The after dark story
A
fter his remark on APJ Abdul Kalam that the
late former President was a nationalist
despite being a Muslim, Union Culture
Minister Mahesh Sharma sparked another
controversy by saying that girls wanting a night out
is not acceptable in India. His statement has indeed
generated vociferous response.
Talking about culture, one might want to ask our
leaders, is corruption a part of our culture? Is
dowry a part of our culture? Is colour prejudices
part of our culture? Is killing girls in the womb a
part of our culture? The Big R – what our culture
stands for, is the same for men as for women.
Instead of protecting women by all means, there is
here, a reflection of the inability to protect. Are
women not humans? Why don't they deserve or
rather get proper protection if they want to go with
their friends?
The Hindu culture is all embracing. Can one
deny that Konark and Khajurao are not depicting
our culture? These Temples have various scriptures
of beautiful women in all their primal glory along
with their escorts. The great poet Kalidasa in his
poems, describes the attributes of different types
of women in a beautiful manner. If all these were
prevalent when the present generation was not
even born, then what is the harm to have some
time on their own? The state has to provide secure
transport system and efficiently manage the
situation to move around to attend their legitimate
activities – day or night.
In the present scenario, women are working at
par with men in all fields whether it be armed
forces, BPO & KPO, space research, medical
profession, and airline sectors involve day and
night shifts for their self sufficiency and to meet the
demands of their families. A night out is a personal
matter which no Government should regulate.
Also, women employees work overnight in several
emergency sectors. You cannot confine rapes if you
confine women inside homes. They are most
abused at homes according to global surveys. Also,
the Nirbhaya case is a classic example of a woman
being brutally raped, even though she was not out
late at night, and rather accompanied by a male
friend. Rightfully, what needs to change, is our
attitude.
Times change and
culture evolves. Culture is
neither static and has never
been this way. People do
what they like and dislike,
which creates the future culture of a society. India
is home to everyone and to all mindsets. People the
world over are moving towards cosmopolitanism.
Therefore, no one can prevent the cosmopolitan
culture. Today's youth, especially girls, are well
aware of what they want, and have the means and
will power to go and get it.
In today's world, innumerable parents
themselves are unable to keep a tab on their
children as most of them are living in a totally
different world in a 24x7 media exposure of what is
good and bad. It is high time the views of a
multicultural society are respected. Our leaders
should concentrate on sorting out core issues such
as housing, education, health, water, sanitation,
power, roads and other transport, welfare for those
who need it.
premises like account keeping, counting of donations
received, preparation of meals, purchase or
maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of the premises
could be profitable for both parties.
Offering loan to the local bodies, at a fixed
interest for infrastructural projects pertaining to the
nearby areas. A body of the learned and socially
conscious locals could be the constituted which
would collate and communicate with the temple
board. This interest would add to the temple coffers
and widen the scope of the services the temple could
provide.
Since all this would require man power, the temple
would contribute towards creating employment.
Thus places of worship would not be involved
solely in religious activities but also social, economic
and humanitarian ones, diversifying their role and
ambit of contribution to the social fabric. After all,
each religion exists for humans and because of them
too. Reduced suffering and better living!
All this may seem a trifle idealistic, but then it is ideals
that develop into ideas, which eventually lead to
historic transitions which leave their prints in the
sands of time. A millennia later when we constitute
the annals, it would be great to be remembered as a
civilisation that had made its mark in not only science,
technology and development but one that had woven
together its citizens, its people into a network of
facilitators and providers who stood by each other. It
is then that we would be considered greater than the
erstwhile civilisations that we now consider as great
and emulation worthy!
• The sanctity of temples runs deep and profound,
• They could with their good work, cover more
ground.
• Provide shelter, give food, build colleges and
schools,
• Hospitals, employment could be their do-good
tools.
• The places of worship with fabric so candid,
• With ventures humanitarian could become more
splendid.
To the Editor,
With the 20% water cut, the water tanker companies
are making merry. This problem is rising quickly
and is going to create a lot of problem. The
government should come up with some plan, to
have a fixed rate per liter or so. Otherwise the water
tanker companies will take full advantage of the
situation and charge a lot more than they should in
order to make some quick money. Good that

Dear Editor,
It is such a shame when a teacher who is supposed
to guide, protect and inspire you does such a
shameful act. If a school is treating their students
like this, what are they going to learn and how are
they going to grow up and be a part of a developed
nation? I really hope the management of the school
takes the right necessary steps and helps the
students as well as parents. Thanks to Mumbai
Messenger, we know how the management is
treating the school children.

Temples: Much more than Places of Worship!
Our seat of devotion could go
beyond the routine, to

Can places of reverence

donations more effectively
and productively? There are
many temples across India
that have received a lot of
Bindu Midha
wealth and used donations to
start schools, build hospitals, and provide housing to
the economically weaker sections. They facilitate stay
arrangements for free or at a nominal charge for the
devotees who arrive at the feet of their maker. These
holy centres contribute significantly towards
satisfying the thirst and hunger of pilgrims, offering
an opportunity to weary souls to rejuvenate.
Charitable intent is an inherent feature of such
bounteous and hence generous temples. But are
these contributions sufficient or are they in a position
to travel a mile further or beyond? Could our temples
step in, from the smallest to the biggest ones, to give
back to the people what they have received from
them?
They could! Merely retaining the money in the
temple coffers would not be beneficial to anyone but
using it for humanitarian as well as progressive
ventures would. Perhaps, creating a central fund,
monitored by a trust that has as its members of the
temple authorities would prevent misappropriation.
Areas in which these funds could be used towards:
The hospitalisation and treatment of mishap or
accident victims, who need financial help but can't
afford hospital costs.
Surgeries of individuals who need to undergo
them but cannot cope with the costs.
During Natural Disasters that affect that region or
locality.
Purchase of food and clothing for the shelter-less.
This offer of shelter may not be free of cost, but in
return for some service to the temple or the city on a
regular basis. Offering them jobs on the temple
READER'S MESSAGES
H
ow can one create value in their life?
The only way to do this is by valuing
oneself. It's so easy for humans to see
and value others. Valuing others for what
they are and what they are doing. Still plenty
of times in valuing others we forget to value
ourselves.
We would do everything but what
reflection we get? No value. Why? Because
our outer world is a reflection of our inner
world. You never valued yourself. You never
appreciated yourself for what you are and
what you are doing. Plenty of times we
ignore ourselves or if we recognize, still in
our heads we keep complaining about what
we are doing, or hating what we do. Do you
think these self- talks inside us will get any
value to our life? How could we create more
value to our lives? We could do that by
making a habit of valuing ourselves.
When you love yourself, you take pride in
who you are and what you have to offer. The
focus needs to go from others to ourselves,
too many people keep others needs before
their own, but in order to respect others, we
need to meet our own needs first. How could
we appreciate others if we don't appreciate
ourselves? How could we help others when
internally we are feeling helpless? How
could we help the needy when we are needy
ourselves? When you learn to value yourself,
it even becomes easy to truly value others.
Making time everyday for yourself just to see
what a magnificent being you are and
accepting yourself, appreciating everything
you do, being understanding with yourself
when we make mistakes, letting go, creates
value for the self.
Make a habit
everyday to sit and
make a list of the
things you can value
about yourself.
Comparison is not
valuing you.
Whenever you find
that you are
Anjali Nagpal
comparing yourself
with someone, you need to remind yourself
that 'I am me and I'm proud of myself”. You
have to sink that in, to really value that you
are. You have to be your own person. Stop
comparing what others have and you don't.
Start focusing on what all you have and you
are enjoying it.
Value what you are: value what you have.
List the things of what you feel good about
yourself, your body, and your life. Accept
yourself when you feeling positive and
negative. All are your feelings. Life is no fun
if you spend it hating yourself. If you value a
painting then you will focus on its beauty and
colors more than the flaws in the painting.
You keep the painting in a nice place and treat
it well.
Similarly, people with high- value
appreciate their good qualities even when
they are trying to improve the lesser ones and
take good care of themselves physically and
emotionally. The world needs more of loving
people and that will be possible only when
each individual starts loving him or herself.
The time when we start loving ourselves, we
will truly be able to love and value others.
Let's make this world a loving place to stay in
by starting to love and valuing ourselves.

Hello, I am Satish Vasvani. Eight
months back I had a heart
attack. My doctor says that now I
should start exercises but I am
afraid to start as I think it can
lead to the second attack. What
is your advice?
Hello Satish,
It is very important to resume back to
a normal lifestyle and according to me
exercise is a part of a normal life style.
You can easily start your exercise if
your doctor has given you a green
signal. Exercise will help you lose
weight if required, elevate your mood
and increase your stamina. Start it by
taking an electrocardiogram as this
test will predict as to how much
exercise a person's heart can tolerate.
Start exercising for not more than 30
minutes thrice a week. Stop if you feel
any kind of pain or get too tired. Do
not execrate to an extent that you get
short of breath. Keep sipping water in
between your workout. Exercise only
under supervision.
I am an athlete (marathon
runner). I run at least 5-6 hours a
day. How much water/fluid
should I drink to keep myself
well hydrated? My name is
Rajesh Shinde.
Hi Rajesh,
Dehydration can cause a negative
impact on your sports performance.
There are 2 ways to determine your
fluid status:
1. Monitor your urine output: If you
don't produce much urine or if it is
dark in color chances are you are
dehydrated. Ideally, urine should be
pale or colorless.
2. Within 2 hours of your exercise, aim
to get back to your pre-exercise
weight: Weight yourself before and
after your exercise/practice. How
much weight you have lost during
exercise (in ounces) + how much fluid
you consume during exercise (in
ounces) = fluid (in ounces) you should
drink to stay hydrated. One can have
fluid in any forms like water, fruit
juices, coconut water, sports drink etc
Tip: You should drink at least 3 - 4
litters of fluid everyday. Keep sipping
fluid in every 10-15 mins during your
exercise. Since you are involved in
long duration workouts you are prone
to heavy, repeated sweating, thus
losing high amount of
electrolytes(sodium, potassium,
magnesium).You can replenish the
body by having salty fluids and foods
like energy/sports drinks, tomato
juice, orange juice, grape juice, milk,
potato, bananas, spinach, canned
soups and beans.

If you have ever read the fine print behind the bottle
of hand sanitizer; you will see a warning telling you to
keep it away from kids. That is because your child
could be seriously harmed if he/she injected it. There
have been a number of incidences of alcohol
poisoning in children due to hand sanitizers. While in
the case of adults a person would need to swallow
large quantities for something untoward to happen,
for children a small amount is enough. Added to the
risk is the fact that kids tend to put things in their
mouth and the sweet, fruity odour only makes them
want to consume it even more. So, keep your kids
away from the stuff and if you do use hand sanitizers
make sure you make them use it in front of you.
Some hand sanitizers do not have alcohol
contained and use triclosan instead. Triclosan is an
antibacterial and antifungal agent and is commonly
use in a variety of soaps and cleaning agent. But, do
you know it is an active ingredient in pesticides?
Another thing to consider is the fact that the
compound has been widely touted as an agent that
causes the formation of superbugs or antibacterial
resistant bacteria. Triclosan, as a component, is
capable of being quickly absorb into the skin and
entering the blood stream. Once, there, it is known to
cause various side effects like cancer, allergies,
hormonal and neurological, ill effects and muscle
weakness. More importantly, it is known to cause
infertility.
The concentration of alcohol in the bottle of hand
sanitizers needs to be above 60%. If it is not, you
might as well rub some sweet smelling liquid on your
hands. 59% is also not good enough. A child's
immunity is seriously affected by the use of hand
sanitizers. They found that more kids were falling ill
due to innocuous and preventable diseases after the
long term use of the agent. The studies specifically
looked for the production of inflammatory product;
called C-reactive protein (CRP) in the children's urine
samples. They concluded that ultra clean
environments during the early stages of child's life
lowers their immunity to such a level that their body's
defence mechanism is in a constant fighting more,
which leads to weakened immunity. This causes
serious effects when they grow older as well; these
adults have a weak immune system and an extremely
sensitive inflammatory response that makes them
vulnerable to various diseases as adults.

One of the often used compounds in hand
sanitizers is Benzalkonium Chloride. Its main function
is to dissolve the outer covering of the bacterial cells,
in turn killing them. But this compound is about as
bad for our cells as it is for the microbes. The
compound has been found to increase the irritation
within the mucosal lining and can aggravate allergic
reactions. According to some studies, it is also highly
toxic to fishes and birds as well.

Bacterial and viral infections are very common in all
age groups and ethnicity, especially during this
time of the year. The common belief is that only
consuming antibiotics can help get rid of the
infections. Prolonged use of antibiotics over time
causes antibiotics resistance in humans. Building
up of natural immunity from within is the best way
of fighting infections. Only by creating natural
immunity from infections by the intake of natural
foodstuff that have medicinal value and by limiting
the use of antibiotics for every small cold or flu that
sets in can we hope to live a healthy life. Here are
some remedies naturally available that one can
consume in order to boost immunity and help in
prevention of various diseases:
Honey: Honey is highly useful when taken orally
or when applied to sores or wounds directly. It has
the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It is also
useful in the treatment of stomach ulcers as it
soothes the stomach lining when taken regularly
and also boosts the immunity from within.
Echinacea: It is a plant extract that is believed
to boost the immune system and fight against
bacterial and viral infections. Research has shown
that consuming this extract every few weeks can
safe guard the system from contracting common
cold and flu. It is believed to boost the white blood
cells to fight all infections.
Onions: Onion's main ingredient, sulphur, acts
as an antibiotic. It is an effective expectorant to
bring out phlegm from the congested lungs. Many
are in the habit of adding onions to salads on a
regular basis that helps them gain this natural
bacteria-fighting property. Onions are also useful
as for their anti inflammatory property as well as to
improve circulation.
Garlic: Garlic the key ingredient to add taste to
food has time and again proved to be of varied
therapeutic uses. The chemical that is present in
garlic that gives its taste and smell is known as
allicin, also has medicinal properties. It is thought
to help reduce cholesterol levels in blood and burn
fat when taken on an empty stomach thereby
reducing weight and blood pressure too. Recent
studies have shown that it is more useful in treating
food poisoning in the juice form.
Green Tea: Many are now aware of the importance
of consuming green tea on a daily basis. This is
because of the high antioxidant property present
that helps cleanse the body of the free radicals that
can cause damage and sickness. This may not
directly have an antibiotic property, but it is proven
to make the antibiotic work efficiently, thereby
improving the mechanism of action of the
antibiotics.
Rose Water: Rose water is used not just as a
topical application but also to flavor ice creams,
cakes and also as a fragrance-enhancing agent. Its
oldest property was as a wound-cleansing agent,
applied directly to sores and burns, not just to
waive off the infection but also to speed up the
recovery. It prevents the entry of bacteria onto the
open wounds.
Grape Seed Extract: Grapes in the ripe form are
so delicious and nutritious. More is the effect
present in the grape seeds that when extracted
and made into edible forms like tablets or syrups or
food item, gives a kick to the immune system and
boosts the immune functions of the body. It is filled
with anti oxidants, which help to remove the
disease causing free radicals from the blood stream
thereby enhancing the health and beauty of the
individual.
There have been no cases that have so far been
reported of being resistant to natural antibiotics. So
go ahead and give a kick-start for the natural
immune boosters – the “Natural Antibiotics”.

of the Indian toy industry is currently
projected at 400 million USD and is
expected to increase to 450 million
USD by 2017. The tremendous growth

attractive opportunities for
international companies to enter the
market."
Vivek Jhangiani, President of The
All India Toy Manufacturers'
Association (TAITMA), notes, “The
growing prosperity of the Indian
population is helping the toy economy
to grow and we believe this is a
sustainable trend, which will persist
even during times of economic
slowdown as buying habits evolve.
There is an enormous potential for Kids
India.”
According to Katharina Janotta,
Director Project Management,
Spielwarenmesse, "The overwhelming
success of Kids India reflects the huge
potential of the Indian toy industry. In
three years the exhibition space has
significantly increased from 6,700m²
to 8,500m2. We estimate more than
6,000 retailers and buyers will attend
the event; establishing Kids India 2015
as the leading trade fair for the toy

Sonia Prashar-Director Marketing

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Australia is a unique
and diverse destination
INCREASE OF 19 PERCENT OF INDIAN TRAVELLERS VISITED AUSTRALIA
IN FIRST HALF TILL JUNE 2015
Tourism Australia is the Australian Government agency
responsible for promoting Australia to the world. In India,
Tourism Australia is active in the consumer and distribution
space through strategic activities to increase the appeal of
Australia as the next holiday destination. Their purpose is to
increase the economic benefits to Australia of tourism,
supporting the industry's Tourism 2020 strategy, which aims
to grow the overnight annual expenditure generated by
tourism to over A$ 115 billion by 2020. To make the public
aware about destination and varied offers by Autralian
tourism, here is Senior Journalist MEWATI SITARAM in
candid talk with NISHANT KASHIKAR, Country Manager,
India & Gulf | Tourism Australia...
Why should Indian tourists visit Australia?
Australia is a unique and diverse country in every way and a
perfect holiday destination which validates the needs of
every traveller segment. There are countless unexplored
destinations within Australia for Indian travellers. They are
Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth,
Darwin and Canberra each have their individual charms and
are seen by visitors as sophisticated cities that are fun places
to visit. Australia has embraced the world's interest in its
incredible culinary scene to create food trails, festivals, tours
and hands-on food based experiences that make it an
irresistible choice for the new-age Indian tourists who travel
on their bellies!
Which months are good for tourists to travel to
Australia?
Australia is a year round destination. Between December –
February tourists can enjoy the midsummer holiday
exploring the beaches, attending music and food festivals
abound. During the shoulder season (Mar−May &
Sep−Nov), one can experience the warm sun and clear skies
when autumn leaves are atmospheric in Victoria, Tasmania
and South Australia. The season of Jun−Aug experiences
cool rainy days, so it's ideal to head for the desert, sunny
skies up north or the snow.
How many days would you suggest in Australia for a
holiday?
We strongly recommend that travellers take a minimum of a
couple of weeks off for an Australian holiday so they can get
an immersive experience of the destination. It is also a great
idea for travellers to move beyond city experiences and
venture into the surrounds regions for unparalleled nature
and coastal experiences. To view the best travel offers to
Australia, tourists can visit our website
www.australia.com/offers
What would be the monetary range for budget,
average and high end travellers?
A three city package that has recently been launched by one
of our travel partners starts as low as Rs. 1.2 lakh including
flight, accommodation and sight-seeing. This is an entrylevel package, but we have seen that when Indian visitors
travel to Australia, they like to 'switch on' and participate.
The average spends for Indian visitors in Australia are
A$5000.
Which are the prominent tourist places?
Australia has a wealth of assets, natural and man-made, that
differentiate it from other destinations around the world.
These include products and experiences such as Sydney
Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and Blue Mountains in
New South Wales, the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island and
Melbourne in Victoria, the Great Barrier Reef, Kuranda rain
forest and Gold Coast in Queensland, Kangaroo Island and
Adelaide in South Australia, the capital city of Canberra,
Perth in Western Australia, Hobart and Freycinet in
Tasmania, and the Ayers Rock (Uluru) in Northern Territory.
We are noticing an increasing trend of people wanting to
spend more time exploring newer destinations, city
surrounds regions and indulge in experiential travel
itineraries. Non-traditional destinations such as Hamilton
Island, Kangaroo Island and Tasmania are gradually making
way to the Indian traveler's itinerary.
Where can Indians experience authentic Australian
food?
Over the past decade Australia has become a culinary
destination par excellence. Indian travellers can enjoy some
of Australia's best food and wine in some of the world's most
stunning surroundings. From sparkling harbourside dining
and luxe lodge stays to dinner in the sands of an ocre-red
desert illuminated by the southern night sky, Australia is a
gourmet hedonist's dream destination. Australia's wine
regions including Barossa Valley in South Australia, Hunter
Valley in New South Wales and Yarra Valley in Melbourne are
well known for their laidback atmosphere, world class wines,
fresh produce and fine food.
Are adequate Indian restaurants available in tourist
NISHANT KASHIKAR
places?
Australia has embraced Indian culture and cuisine in a big
way, resulting in a proliferation of Indian restaurants in every
state. Australia is home to close to half a million Indian
diaspora which has enriched Australia's culinary landscape
by a wave of Indian restaurants in all major cities and towns
across the country. Restaurants such as Aki's and Zaaffran in
Sydney, the Indian inspired Tonka in Melbourne among
varied others are well known for their cuisine. You can refer

Restaurants/australias-best-indian-restaurants.html
How many tourists from Mumbai and India Visited
Australia?
Australia's soaring popularity amongst travelers from
Maharashtra has led to the State emerging as the largest
tourism source market in India. For the year ended June
2015, 42,000 tourists from Maharashtra visited Australia
which is an increase of 32 per cent in comparison to the
same period last year. Tourists from Maharashtra also
recorded an incredible increase of 62 per cent in spend into
Australia. As per the year ended June 2015, 220,000 Indian
travellers visited Australia which is an increase of 19 per cent
for the same period the previous year. For the six months to
June, Australia received 122,900 visitors from India, a 24 per
cent increase relative to the same period of the previous
year.
How important is India for Australia as far as tourism
is concerned?
Statistically, India is one of the world's fastest growing
outbound travel markets. For Australia, India has been
increasingly growing in importance – from ranking as the
#11 inbound market for Australia in early 2014, India has
grown to the #8 market. Through focussed consumer and
distribution activities, we are working towards making
Australia the most preferred holiday destination for Indian
travellers.
