WELCOME TO
WALKER & WODEHOUSE
We are delighted to present our new list for
2016/2017, which features over 550 wines
and 50 artisan spirits and craft beers.
We’ve developed the list based on customer
feedback and market insights. You’ll find
great additions to our Italian, French,
Spanish and Australian ranges, together with
a significantly expanded spirits offering.
We understand the importance of exclusivity
in the UK market and for this reason we offer
over 150 wines that are exclusive to independent
retailers and wholesalers in the UK.
Our exclusive producers include Bodegas
Escorihuela Gascon, Protos, Val d’Oca,
Babich Wines, Bodegas Navajas and
Bodegas Cosme Palacio. These producers
have been selected for the exceptional
value they offer alongside great quality.
While wine is very much our first love, we are
falling for spirits in a big way. We are delighted
to offer a new and diverse range of artisan spirits,
including gin from Rock Rose and Jensen’s, as
well as Ogilvy Vodka, Eterno Mezcal, Hyde Irish
Whiskey and The Real McCoy Caribbean Rum.
Many of these producers are launching in the UK
for the first time and have great stories to tell.
We are very proud to focus exclusively on the
independent sector and are continually looking
for ways we can improve. With this in mind we’d
love your feedback on our range and services.
Most importantly, we look forward to working
with you and to helping you grow your business.

ABOUT US
Walker & Wodehouse Wines started life as John Harvey &
Sons in 1796, becoming a Royal Warrant Holder in 1955. In
2009, the company was renamed Walker & Wodehouse when
the wine merchant side of the business separated from the
sherry bodega.
This portfolio is complemented by the Walker & Wodehouse
Essentials range, 58 wines that offer great value at entry level
pricing. Covering the key producing regions and varietals,
they provide a great starting point for building a new list, or to
complement an existing portfolio.
In 2014 Walker & Wodehouse joined the Bibendum PLB
Group as a distinct trading division focused on the needs of
independent merchants and wholesalers.
These wines can be identified in the list with an ‘*’ after the
product name.
We are a highly experienced team with an in-depth
understanding of the UK independent wine and spirits trade.
We aim to offer solutions, which first and foremost can help
benefit your business. We want to provide you with the right
products at the right prices and with best in class service.
What is more, we want to be easy and fun to do business with.
Our international portfolio of wines, artisan spirits and craft
beers has been created with the independent in mind. We
source from a range of international wine suppliers, with
wines from over 15 countries.
In addition, our spirits portfolio has grown substantially this
year and reflects the UK’s blossoming craft spirits category.
Supporting our list, we offer a year round calendar of
seasonally focused promotions, which are supplemented by
regular Fine Wine offers. We also have an excellent
programme of winemaker visits enabling in-store tastings and
hosted dinners, ensuring our wines and spirits are brought to
life for you and your customers.

WINES FOR WHOLESALE TRADE
The complete Walker & Wodehouse list stretches to over 500
wines with many small parcels offered throughout the year.
From this list we’ve identified a compact range of 58 brilliant
value entry-level wines specifically to meet the needs of
independent wholesalers.
These wines form the Walker & Wodehouse Essentials range.
GREAT VALUE
We will consistently review our pricing to ensure we keep
prices as low as possible, but without compromising on
quality.
We want to ensure working with us is simple and efficient,
and you’ll find these wines highlighted in the list with an ‘*’
as follows;
EXCLUSIVE
• Merlot Cabernet Franc*
All these wines are exclusive to UK independent wine trade.
FLEXIBLE
TOP PRODUCERS
The wines have been costed based on volume purchasing to
ensure we offer our customers the best possible pricing.
The range is sourced from 26 of our top producers including
Vina Ventisquero (Chile), Babich (New Zealand), Spier
(South Africa) and Navajas (Rioja). The wines are brilliant
for the on trade and many of the producers will be regularly
visiting the UK market to support your business.
The wholesale pricing is available when wines are purchased
by the pallet from UK stock, usually 648 or 840 bottles
packed in cases of 12 or 6 respectively.
The minimum order is half a pallet (35 x case of 12 or 70
cases of 6), and the minimum single SKU quantity is one
pallet layer, so you can order a range of wines mixed across
different wines.
Please ask your account manager for a copy of our wholesale
price list.
NATIONWIDE DELIVERY
All wines are delivered nationwide in the UK on a Day 1 for
Day 3 basis.

EX-CELLAR RANGE
HOW TO ORDER
Working with an international range of producers and
co-operatives we have compiled an excellent range of wines
that can be purchased on an ex. cellar basis.
Our phone lines are open five days a week:
Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm
Bank Holidays from 8.30am to 5.00pm
We have a strong understanding of the requirements of
ex-cellar shipping and currently partner with a number of
UK merchants who wish to purchase in this way.
Orders can be placed by phone or email.
Producers we work with on an ex-cellar basis include; Val
d’Oca (Valdobbiadene), Cellier des Princes (Southern
Rhone), Plaimont (Gascony) and Bodegas Navajas (Rioja).
We can provide detailed information on each supplier
including minimum order quantities and lead times, together
with a range of possible product options.
We would be delighted to discuss your requirements and
provide advice on our ex-cellar partner wineries.
EXCLUSIVE WINES
A great number of our wines and some of our agencies are
exclusive to the independent sector. No-one else sells these
wines to any other channel, which means you can get behind

We’ve identified them throughout the list. Producers such

NEW WINES AT
WALKER & WODEHOUSE
This year we’ve added a number of new wines to the portfolio at a range of different
price points. Here is just a small selection of producers worthy of your attention:
CELLIER DES PRINCES
CORZETTI
Established in 1925, this co-operative is based in the
heart of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and offers an excellent
range of wines. This year we feature the Domaine
Vaucroze Cotes du Rhone rouge, a bold and expressive
blend of Grenache and Carignan, which is fermented
and matured without oak.
A brilliant Italian duo featuring Gavi and Barbera.
These are easy-drinking wines, offering bright and
vibrant fruit, presented in contemporary and
eye-catching packaging. A great addition to your
Italian range.
PLAIMONT
STRATUS
A brilliant co-operative in the Cotes de Gascogne, with
a range of excellent entry-level wines, featuring the
traditional varieties of Gros Manseng, Arrufiac and
Petit Courbu, as well as some great wines from lesser
spotted appellations such as Saint Mont.
A native of France’s Loire Valley, winemaker JL Groux
is regarded as one of Niagara’s winemaking pioneers.
He presides over 62 acres located on the south side of
Lake Ontario. Cabernet Franc features here alongside
Riesling and the Stratus white, a blend of Chardonnay,
Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. From this cool-climate
region, Stratus wines are forward and expressive.
RHONE, FRANCE
COTES DE GASCOGNE, FRANCE
PIEDMONT, ITALY
NIAGARA, CANADA
9
NORMAN HARDIE
NIAGARA, CANADA
Cited by Jancis Robinson as one of the “outstanding
producers” at the Rediscover Canadian Wines
Tasting in 2015, we are thrilled to be working
with Norman Hardie. Based in Ontario, with
vineyards in Prince Edward County and Niagara,
‘Norm’ produces elegant cool-climate wines.
WALTER HANSEL
RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY, USA
This small, boutique set-up in California’s Russian
River Valley started with Walter Hansel planting a few
Chardonnay vines in 1976. Twenty years later, Walter’s
son Stephen made the first commercial vintage and has
consistently attracted praise from US wine critics. The
wines are elegant and pure, and are fast gaining friends
in the Walker & Wodehouse team.

INTRODUCING NEW SPIRITS
AT WALKER & WODEHOUSE
ROCK ROSE & HOLY GRASS
THE REAL MCCOY RUM
Launched in August 2014 by Martin and Claire Murray,
owners and managers of Dunnet Bay Distillery in
Thurso, Caithness. Located in the most northerly town
of the British mainland, this husband and wife team
harness local botanicals for the production of their
Rock Rose Gin and Holy Grass Vodka.
Will McCoy exploited a loophole in legislation during
American Prohibition, legally selling rum from his boat
three miles out at sea, in international waters. His rum
was so good and unadulterated that it become known
as ‘The Real McCoy’.
THURSO, SCOTLAND
BARBADOS
Production wizards, aka family members, have been
integral in launching these excellent spirits, together
with Dr Hanna, the gardener, who is most likely to be
found in her geodome.
While researching for his documentary on the
legendary bootlegger, Bailey Prior met Richard Seale,
fourth generation Master Distiller at his family-owned
Foursquare Distillery, the source of the original Will
McCoy rums. Together they re-created a trio of rums in
McCoy’s honour, unadulterated by added sugars,
flavours or perfumes.
NB GIN
OGILVY VODKA
NORTH BERWICK, SCOTLAND
SCOTLAND
NB Gin is the long-held dream of Vivienne and Steve
Muir. Settling in the beautiful seaside town of North
Berwick, the couple set about realising this dream.
Determined to make the perfect gin, they experimented
tirelessly and in 2015 their efforts were rewarded
as NB was crowned the World’s Best London Dry
Gin. Although we are more familiar with precision
viticulture, this is precision distillation at its best.
The Jarron family have farmed their land since 1910
and were determined to create a long-lasting legacy for
future generations. After several trials the family took
the plunge and invested in their own on-site distillery.
Today it is home to ‘Spud’, a 21ft column still, complete
with methanol removal column. ‘Spud, Sweat and
Cheers’ sounds like a great mantra to us, and we are
mightily impressed by the depth of flavour achieved in
this excellent Scottish vodka.

SERGE MATHIEU
The Mathieu family have lived in
Avirey-Lingey since 1740 and plot
by plot they have built up vineyards
that now cover almost 30 acres.
Both growing and winemaking takes place
with minimal intervention, ‘borderline
organic’ practices in the vineyard and low
use of sulphur in the cellar.
Isabelle Mathieu and her husband
Michel Jacob are the seventh generation
of the Mathieu family to manage this
beautiful estate. Together they handle
vineyard cultivation, winemaking, selling
and administration.
80% of the vineyards are Pinot Noir and
20% Chardonnay – a balance which is
reflected in their highly-expressive blends.

Based in the village of St. Hippolyte, the
Biecher family first planted vines here in
1776. With an encyclopaedic knowledge of
the region they produce a range of wines,
including two Grand Cru cuvees, Steinart
and Sommerberg, which we feature here.
The wines are produced together with
Julien Schaal, an Alsatian native, who
divides his time between Alsace and
Hemel-en-Aarde in South Africa. A
talented winemaker with a rich viticultural
heritage, these are must-stock wines.

GEORGES LIGNIER ET FILS
Georges Lignier’s wines are intensely
coloured and richly textured – resulting
from well-established, low-yielding vines,
the majority of which were planted in
the 1920s.
Grapes are small, concentrated and
deliver a deep-seated, clear expression
of each site’s terroir.
Georges Lignier inherited vines from his
father Jules and this domaine has been
family-owned for the last 100 years.
Together with his nephew Benoit Stehly,
he follows a philosophy of ‘viticulture
raisonnée’, which favours minimal
chemical intervention contributing to the
wines’ structure and intensity.

We are delighted to work with the fourth

who remain resolutely independent and
committed to quality.

DOMAINE CHEYSSON
Situated in Chiroubles at over 1,300 feet,
Domaine Cheysson is at the highest
altitude of all 10 Beaujolais crus. They
benefit from granite soils and being
located in a natural amphitheatre.
The domaine was founded in 1870,
but monks have been carefully tending
the vines since before the French
Revolution. The cellar was originally
built in the 17th century and has been
gradually expanded over time.
Today Jean-Pierre Large owns the
domaine’s 60 acres of vines. He favours
traditional winemaking methods, and the
resulting wines are supple and elegant.
Robert Parker recently named Domaine
Cheysson in his book, The World’s Best
Wine Values under $25. Parker’s former
colleague at The Wine Advocate, David
Schildknecht, clearly agreed, calling
winemaker Jean-Pierre a ‘major talent’.

DOMAINE RIJCKAERT
Originally from Flanders in Belgium, Jean
Rijckaert has developed vineyards in both
the Macon and the Jura. Joining forces
with Florent Rouve in 2013, together they
are producing excellent wines.
The winemaking style is characterised by
minimal intervention – no new oak is used,
instead barrels aged between seven and
10 years allow the wines to fully express
themselves. This is coupled with a delayed
release period compared to many other
domaines in the region.
The resulting wines are a joy to drink,
showing textbook acidity and bracing
minerality.

CLOS DE NOUYS
Masters of Chenin Blanc, Clos de Nouys
encompasses the essence of Vouvray. This
25 acre estate is found just outside the
eponymous sleepy village.
Vouvray’s distinctive Tuffeau limestone
is mineral rich and many believe that this
is the reason why Vouvray is so unique.
Owner Francois Chainier is well-known for
his exciting Vouvrays, ranging from bone
dry to honey sweet.
Their 100% Chenin Blanc sparkling and
still wines are classic expressions of this
ancient terroir. The sparkling is made
according to the traditional method and
bottle aged for 18 months on its lees.

CHATEAU LA LAGUNE
Chateau La Lagune was established on the
alluvial terraces largely dominated by gravel
soils, in an enviable position in the Haut
Medoc. In the 1855 Bordeaux Classification,
the property was classed as a Third Growth.
Purchased by the Frey family in 2000,
winemaker Caroline Frey has sought to elevate
the quality of this historic property, investing
significantly in both vineyards and barrels.
The Frey family also purchased the estate of
Paul Jaboulet Aine in the Rhone in 2006.
With a specific focus on soil health, the estate
has been working steadily towards organic
certification. The 2016 vintage will see the
culmination of this work when Chateau La
Lagune receives organic accreditation.

David now managing this 25 ha estate.
Semillon dominates the plantings with
smaller proportions of Muscadelle and
Sauvignon Blanc.
Made from the estate’s younger vines, the
Chateau de Levant bottling is completely
unoaked producing a very fresh, pure
expression of Sauternes with the
emphasis firmly on the fruit.
Grapes are carefully picked and handsorted ensuring only sufficiently ‘noble’
grapes are selected for fermentation.
18 months stainless steel maturation
ensures a harmonious and delicate wine.

DOMAINE CAUHAPE
Domaine Cauhape lies in a quiet corner
of south-west France in Jurancon,
between Biarritz and Lourdes. It is here
that Henri Ramonteau works on his 42 ha
of steep hillside vineyards with a team of
just 15 people.
The domaine uses only native varieties,
including Gros Manseng and Petit
Manseng – both of which are known for
their electrifying acidity, complemented
by a richness and depth provided by the
clay soils on which they are planted.
Henri is also slowly re-introducing the
ancient varieties of Camaralet and Lauzet.

DOMAINE JAMET
We taste that wine from bottle and the new
wine from cask, with Jean-Paul creating
a theoretical blend from several barrels
waving his magical pipette as he goes.
There are few more exciting visits in the
Rhone than a stop at Jamet. We visit in
the autumn prior to harvest when most
domaines are preparing the previous
year’s wine for release.
Made with more whole clusters than most
in this region, the wines don’t jump up
and down with flashy new oak and sweet
flavours. They are always pure, fresh and
unforced with crystal clear red fruit and
bright acidity. They age superbly too.
Not at Jamet, though. Jean-Paul, who
recently split from making wine with his
brother, releases his wine one year later
than his neighbours. The extra slumber
giving it time to knit together and settle.

We extend our range this year with the

ALOIS LAGEDER
Alois Lageder is a ‘green leader’ in the
wine world, with an unerring commitment
to sustainability and ethical production.
The fifth generation of his family to make
wine on the estate, Alois began his notion
of ‘holistic entrepreneurship’ back in the
early 1990s. His two aims are to create a
natural, healthy and aesthetically pleasing
environment for both man and wine; and
to create a sound, sustainable economy.
The Lageder wines range from the zesty
freshness of Riff Pinot Grigio to the multitextured Lowengang Chardonnay. These
are delicious and savoury wines created by
a passionate wine ecologist.

SUAVIA
Everything at this estate is done by one
of the four Tessari sisters, who have now
taken the reins from their parents. With
plenty of hard work and commitment,
Arianna, Meri, Valentina and Alessandra
have taken the winery to the next level and
today it can rightly be regarded as one of
the region’s very best.
They only cultivate the two grapes
native to the area: Garganega and
Trebbiano di Soave, all from vines
planted by their grandfather.
The wines are aromatic, lively and
fresh, with an impressive concentration
of flavour.

Founded in 1952 by a group of grape
growers in the Valdobbiadene area, Val
d’Oca has grown to become a co-operative
of 576 members spread over 714 ha of
land. The vineyards cover both DOC and
DOCG vineyards, including plots on the
famed Cartizze hillside.
Today the co-op works to promote the
produce of its members, continually
investing in more efficient communal
winemaking practices and techniques.
As a leading producer of Prosecco, it
is here that the famous Valdobbiadene
Prosecco Superiore DOCG was born.
Rive Di Colbertaldo is produced from
hand-picked grapes from speciallyselected vineyard sites.

MORGASSI SUPERIORE
This small estate of only 19 ha opens out
onto the Lemme Valley – the ancient
cultural crossroads between the Republic
of Genoa and the hills of Savoy Piedmont.
The area is traditionally dedicated to
white wine production from the local
Cortese grape, with Gavi di Gavi the
top classification.
Founded in 1993, the winery is today
managed by sisters Marina and Cecilia
Piacitelli. Following in their father’s
footsteps, they continue to evolve using a
combination of time-honoured traditions
and innovative technology.
Morgassi only releases its whites after a
year’s bottle ageing, affording them
richness and elegance.

LA MOZZA
La Mozza comprises 36 ha of sundrenched vineyards in the south-west
corner of Tuscany’s Maremma. Much drier
than central Tuscany, the lack of morning
mist means grapes start ripening at
sunrise and bask until sunset.
In a region famous for ‘Super Tuscan’
Bordeaux blends, La Mozza instead
focuses on indigenous Sangiovese (known
locally as Morellino), blended with Syrah,
Alicante and Ciliegiolo. These ‘Super
Med’ blends highlight the heritage of
Mediterranean winemaking.

CAVICCHIOLI
Cavicchioli is synonymous with
Lambrusco. Founded in 1928 after
Umberto Cavicchioli decided to turn
the laboratory behind his house into a
winery, the innovation continues today
with brothers Claudio and Sandro, the
founder’s grandsons.
Located in Emilia-Romagna, the winery
is a stone’s throw from some of the most
famous centres of Italian gastronomy:
Parma, Modena and Bologna. Perhaps
no surprise then that these are great
food wines.

concentration and intensity – typical of
Southern Italy, which is characterised by
hot summers and mild winters.
Bisceglia grows local varieties, such as
Aglianico and Falanghina, as well as a
selection of international grapes including
Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay.
The estate, founded in 2001, comprises 40
ha in the Lavello area of Basilicata, on the
lower slopes of an extinct volcano,
Mount Vulture.
The winery has a state-of-the-art
winemaking facility and cellar in Lavello,
designed by well-known architects Hikaru
Mori and Domenico Santomauro.

ADEGA ALGUEIRA
Described by our Spanish buyer as “the
most elegant and intense wines produced
in Spain”, the focus at Adega Algueira is
on small yields of exceptionally quality
indigenous grapes.
Winemaking in this Galician heartland of
Spain is rigorous and sometimes gruelling.
Vineyards rise up steeply from the banks
of the River Sil, ensuring all activity from
pruning to picking is effected by hand.
Intense flavour and texture are the
hallmarks of the Algueira wines.

RIBERA DEL DUERO
PROTOS
PROTOS
Founded in 1927, Protos was the first
company to make wine in Ribera
del Duero, choosing the area’s most
impressive landmark for its winery.
Their state-of-the-art winery sits in front of
the castle – designed by British Architect
Richard Rogers, it was nominated for the
prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize in 2009.
The breath-taking Penafiel Castle dates
back to the 15th century and conceals
2.5km of tunnels beneath its imposing
facade, where the wine is aged in cool
barrel cellars.
Grapes are hand harvested from 1,137 ha
of vineyards in Ribera del Duero and
Rueda, a third of which are more than
80 years old.

MIGUEL MERINO
Over 22 vintages Miguel and his son
have built an enviable reputation for their
wines, whose hallmarks are elegance and
finesse. From the single vineyard Mazuelo,
a rarity from this region, to the elegantly
structured Vitola Reserva, these wines are
a brilliant example of modern day Rioja.
Small is beautiful at Miguel Merino.
Production comes from eight small
vineyards, producing just 45,000 bottles
each year. The winery is located in Briones,
a tiny village just 35km north-west of
Logrono – where you will discover some of
the best tapas in Spain.

Tomas Cusine is a virtuoso in the
cellar. His white blend Auzells often
contains up to seven varieties and his
red blend Vilosell features between three
and six varieties.
His aim is to develop wines packed full
of character, capable of reflecting the
characteristics of the soils where they were
grown, as well as their Catalan heritage.
Tomas is involved in every part of
production – viticulture, viniculture
and packaging. His attention to detail
is phenomenal and these are wines of
freshness and aromatic intensity.

QUINTA DO VALLADO
For the first 200 years, this estate
exclusively produced port, distributed by
the family’s own Ferreira Port House. Since
1993, the company has focused on white
and red wines at one of the oldest and
most famous Quintas in the Douro Valley.
Sixth generation Joao Ferreira Alvares
Ribeiro now runs the winery. From the
introductory Tinto to the elegant Reserva
Douro Field Blend, these wines offer bright
and rich fruit characters, which combine
with moreish and elegant tannins.

COATES & SEELY
Described by Tom Cannavan as
“a vanguard of the quality English wine
movement”, Coates & Seely is at the
forefront of the English wine revolution.
From the original idea conceived in
2007, Christian Seely of AXA Millesimes
– owners of Pichon Baron, Chateau
Suduiraut and Quinta do Noval – and
Nicolas Coates are today the proud
custodians of a Hampshire vineyard. They
have faithfully restored and developed the
vineyard in partnership with the land’s
owner, Daphne Cunningham.
Nestled deep in the North Downs, the
original 20 acre ‘Wooldings’ vineyard has
been extended to include an additional 18
acres, planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
and Pinot Meunier.
The Brut NV displays a taut and
mineral-led palate, while the Rosé NV is
quintessential summer drinking!

MARKUS MOLITOR [S]
MARKUS MOLITOR
It is rare to see ungrafted vines in Europe.
Ungrafted vines of around 100 years old
are rarer still. Working with these living
antiques might be daunting, but not so for
Markus Molitor. Taking over the reins of
the family company in 1984, he has grown
the Mosel-based estate from four to 40 ha.
Now one of the largest family-owned
vineyards in the region, every wine is
produced sustainably, without fining or
commercial yeasts. This is a true taste of
German terroir.
Each summer, 50 vineyard workers
carry out canopy management in
these vineyards. With such unrivalled
investment in the vines, it’s no surprise the
wines are in high demand.
This dedication to quality has earnt
the Molitor wines high praise from
international critics, including three 100
point scores from the Wine Advocate.

KIR-YIANNI
Kir-Yianni was founded in 1997 by Yiannis
Boutaris. A descendant from Greece’s
oldest winemaking dynasty, he is feted as
‘a beacon’ for progressive politics in his
current role as Mayor of Thessaloniki,
and is no less progressive in his approach
to winemaking.
Today his son Stelios is in charge of the
day-to-day running of the estate and he
has made some radical technological
improvements in both the vineyard
and winery.
The focus at Kir-Yianni is on unlocking the
potential of local grape variety Xinomavro,
one of the world’s rarest noble red grapes.
Typically high in acidity, it has a deep,
black colour and powerful tannins.

STRATUS VINEYARDS
Established in 2000, Stratus Vineyards has
quickly become one of the benchmarks for
quality within the flourishing Canadian
wine industry.
Situated in the heart of Niagara wine
country, the vineyards benefit from a
unique micro-climate that ranks among
the warmest in the region, providing
perfect conditions for growing the 11 red
and seven white varieties that are used in
the estate’s signature cuvees.
Winemaker JL Groux is renowned for his
passion of creating distinctive wines based
on the principle of assemblage, the art of
combining several different grape varieties
to produce a wine that is the most complex
expression of the vineyard’s terroir.

CHARLES SMITH
Hellraiser turned winemaker Charles
Smith has been dubbed the ‘rock star’
of Washington State. After 11 years of
managing rock bands in Scandinavia, he
headed to Walla Walla Valley to pursue his
life-long passion for food and wine.
His intent has always been “to create
wines to be enjoyed now, but with typicity
with regard to variety and vineyard.”
Or as he also likes to put it: “it’s just
wine – drink it!”
Charles’ portfolio has received a bounty
of 90+ scores from Robert Parker, Wine
Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. Charles
himself was awarded Food & Wine
Magazine Winemaker of the Year in 2009.
With their attention-grabbing names
and unique label designs, these wines
make a statement both in and outside
of the bottle.

WALTER HANSEL WINERY - NEW
WALTER HANSEL WINERY
The most unique feature of Walter Hansel
is that no one works full time at the winery.
Instead, owner Stephen Hansel enlists the
help of his vineyard manager and crew
whenever he needs an extra pair of hands.
By participating in growing, harvesting,
winemaking and bottling, the vineyard
team gets a better sense of how important
vineyard practices are to the overall
quality of the finished wines. The result?
Wines that are made in the vineyard,
rather than the winery.
Their selection of estate-grown Pinot
Noirs and Chardonnays are Burgundian
in style, with an incredible opulence
and richness. We are delighted to have
received a small allocation of these highly
sought-after wines.

VINA VENTISQUERO
Established in 2000 by Don Gonzalo Vial,
Vina Ventisquero has quickly established
a strong footprint in the Andes.
The winemaking team believe that the
secret to exceptional quality lies far
beneath the earth. Investing heavily in soil
mapping and understanding how vines
interact with different soils allows them to
match the best varietal to each site.
Named after the largest glacier in Chilean
Patagonia, the Grey Glacier wines
showcase the breadth and diversity of
Ventisquero’s vineyards.
Cold maceration prior to fermentation,
malolactic fermentation in barrel, and
the use of new, second and third fill
French oak are key in the creation of
these elegant wines.

GARAGE WINE CO.
Canadian ex-ski coach, Derek Mossmann
Knapp, is the enfant terrible of the Chilean
wine scene. His Garage Wine Co. (a
playful nod to the Bordeaux garagistes) is
the polar opposite to the big, established
producers of the Chilean wine industry.
Following the earthquake, Derek
used the prize money awarded him
from the Geoffrey Roberts Trust, then
administered by Jancis Robinson, to
develop a programme for the hard-hit wine
community of the Maule.
The wines are made from grapes
purchased from small growers in the
Maipo and Maule valleys, many of
whom were devastated by the 2010
earthquake. Heavily involved in social
entrepreneurship, Derek helped many of
these farmers restore their vineyards, and
in turn their livelihoods.
The Ploughmen Project, a joint venture
with ourselves has specifically helped
three farmers build a sustainable
future. Further financial support in the
programme will ensure the ongoing
success of this budding social enterprise.

BODEGAS ESCORIHUELA GASCON
A favourite of President Juan Perron
and his wife Evita in the 1950s, Bodegas
Escorihuela Gascon is the oldest
continuously-running winery in Mendoza.
It is believed to have been the first to
introduce 100% Malbec to the region
in the 1940s.
Today the winery is overseen by Ernesto
Catena, whose father Nicolas is one of the
best-known figures in Argentinean wine.
They create vibrant wines from their own
vineyards located at 1,350m in the Uco
Valley and at 980m in the Central Region
at Lujan de Cuyo.
Modern and distinctive, the High Altitude
wines offer great value with fresh and
appealing flavours. Complementing them,
the 1884 Reserve wines are fast gaining
plaudits from international critics for their
purity and elegant structure.

GRAHAM BECK
Masters of Methode Cap Classique
(MCC), Graham Beck has a reputation for
producing some of the best traditional
method sparkling wine in the New World.
Graham Beck first purchased land in 1983
just outside Robertson, in the Breede River
Valley, where cool and dry temperatures
are complemented by limestone-rich soil.
It is with this terroir that head cellarmaster
Pieter Ferreira crafts a range of awardwinning MCC wines.
The wines have garnered many awards
and loyal fans over the years, and were
even chosen to celebrate President
Nelson Mandela’s inauguration and
Barack Obama’s presidential nomination.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary
in 2015, the winery announced they
would be focusing their complete
production on their MCC wines, from
their base in Robertson.

THE COLONIAL ESTATE
Explorateur Shiraz
WYNNS COONAWARRA ESTATE
Wynns is one of Australia’s oldest wine
estates, with the first vines planted by
founder John Riddoch in 1861.
Now the largest wine estate in
Coonawarra, Wynns has an international
reputation for quality and consistency.
Its fame derives from a natural soil
phenomenon called the terra rossa.
This ‘red earth’ is a low, cigar-shaped
ridge of soil and one of the best for
producing Cabernet Sauvignon and
Shiraz in Australia.
Sue Hodder is the chief winemaker, a
position she has held for two decades,
and no-one understands the nuances of
this remarkable soil better than she does.

DIAMOND VALLEY
MOUNT LANGI GHIRAN
Nestled in the Grampians, Mount
Langi’s home is considered by many to
be Australia’s coolest and most exciting
region for Shiraz. Soils here are over 40
million years old and while gold was once
it’s most desirable product, grapes have
firmly cemented their reputation in this
beautiful and relatively remote pocket of
eastern Victoria.
Cliff Edge Shiraz is sourced purely from
the Hollows and Kneebones estate
vineyards. Blueberry, black cherry and
spice combine with plush tannins to
offer a classic Australian Shiraz that we
absolutely love.
James Halliday gave the winery a five star
rating, describing Mount Langi Ghiran
as “a maker of outstanding cool climate
peppery Shiraz, crammed with flavour
and vinosity”.
This is evident in the quality found in
our exclusive Hollows Shiraz – a brilliant
example of contemporay cool climate
Australian winemaking.

YERING STATION
Yering Station was Victoria’s first
vineyard in 1838, and continues to be at
the forefront of progressive winemaking
since hiring chief winemaker Willy Lunn
in 2008.
Willy Lunn’s CV is extensive with more
than 25 years’ cool-climate winemaking
experience, including working for industry
heavyweight, Brian Croser at Petaluma
in the Adelaide Hills. Willy now crafts
Yering’s acclaimed Pinot Noirs and other
cool-climate varietals, together with
winemaker Brendan Hawker.
Exclusive to independents, the McIntyre
Lane wines are sourced from the winery’s
youngest vines, averaging 12 years.
Vibrant fruit with focused acidity are the
hallmarks of these wines. Yering Station
Village Chardonnay is sourced from
older vines, 50% wild yeast ferment and
prolonged oak maturation, resulting in a
richly textured wine, with balanced acidity.
Yering Station wines demonstrate the
continuing importance of this historic
producing region, the Yarra Valley.

BABICH WINES
with a second winery now established in
Hawkes Bay.
Celebrating 100 years of family
winemaking this year, Babich Wines is
synonymous with quality New Zealand
wine production in Auckland, Hawkes Bay
and Marlborough.
While Babich today enjoys international
distribution, it still has the ability to think
and act like a boutique producer.
With the aim to create wines that are
stylish, refined and easy drinking, Babich
has established a footprint across New
Zealand of key varieties in top viticultural
locations.
Small batch winemaking resulting
in special cuvees sits alongside the
production of Babich Classic and Black
Label wines. This flexible but tailored
approach has made them the ‘go to’
New Zealand supplier for many UK
independent wholesalers.
Significant investment has enabled Babich
to increase its production capabilities,

MILLTON
Having gained experience in the wine
regions of France and Germany, James
and Annie Millton returned to New
Zealand in the early eighties and set about
replanting the family’s grape growing
vineyards in Gisborne.
Putting their environmental beliefs into
practice, Millton became the first producer
in New Zealand to gain organic status in
1989 and the first for biodynamics in 2009
– one of the 10 original grape growers in
the world to do so.
Their simple philosophy is to produce the
best possible wine in a truly natural state,
with a “sense of place”. Unlike most New
Zealand wineries that focus on Sauvignon
Blanc, Millton is known for its expertise
in unsung grape varieties such as Chenin
Blanc and Viognier.

QUARTZ REEF
Unlike most New Zealand wineries, the
focus at Quartz Reef is on sparkling and
red wines produced from Pinot Noir. Its
30 acres of north-facing slopes are perfect
for growing this notoriously challenging
grape and they’ve been doing so with
exceptional success since 1996.
The high quality Pinot makes up the base
for their sparkling wine range, which uses
more Pinot than Chardonnay.
Much of the work in the vineyard and
winery is still done by hand.
Winemaker and leading exponent of
New Zealand Pinot Noir, Rudi Bauer,
aims to “pass on the message from the
vineyard to consumer”. This encapsulates
his approach to biodynamic and
sustainable winemaking.

Located in the north of Japan, Akita
is a top sake-producing region. The
mountainous terrain produces soft
riverbed water of exceptional purity, which
contributes to the high quality of the sake.
Sake is traditionally made in winter –
cold weather enables the brewmaster to
better control the fermentation. With sales
in the UK growing, sake is a category not
to be overlooked.

OGILVY, SCOTLAND
The Jarron family has been farming the
land at Ogilvy Farm since 1910, but it’s the
current generation with Graeme and his
wife Caroline, who had the idea of turning
their high quality Maris Pipers into
Scotland’s first potato vodka.
The entire production process takes
place on the family farm. From planting
the Maris Pipers through to distillation
– which utilises a 21ft column still,
affectionately known as ‘Spud’!
Their six step production process ensures
the final vodka is pure, clean and balanced,
with a sweet, creamy character.

PRAIRIE, USA
One of the world’s only organic spirit ranges,
Prairie Organic Spirits in Minnesota, USA is a
collective of three farmers who share a common
goal to make great organic spirits from their
land. Sather Organic Farms, Little Big Man
Organic Farms and Olsen Organics are the three
producers involved in producing Prairie.
Central to their philosophy is a love for the fields
and respect for the ecosystem that supports
them. They leave fields unplanted for three
years before seeding to make sure the land is
completely free of pesticides. Deep buffer crops
are planted to ensure there is no contamination
from neighbouring fields. This care for the land
has enabled a vibrant ecosystem to thrive.
Prairie’s success is evident in its award haul
and most recently winning gold in the 2016
International Spirits Competition for their
Prairie Organic Cucumber Vodka.

JENSEN’S, LONDON
Inspired by 19th century gins from longvanished distilleries, Christian Jensen
wanted to start making his own in the
home of London Dry Gin: Bermondsey.
Once known as ‘London’s Larder’,
Bermondsey was crammed with wharves
and warehouses. This is where London’s
food was produced and stored, and its
gin distilled.
Today, Christian keeps this legacy alive
by expertly recreating old-style London
Dry Gins beneath the Bermondsey railway
arches, using traditional botanicals.

Dark Matter Spiced Rum
THE REAL MCCOY, BARBADOS
Will McCoy exploited a loophole in
legislation during American Prohibition,
legally selling rum from his boat three
miles out at sea, in international waters.
His rum was so good and unadulterated
that it become known as ‘The Real McCoy’,
and coined a phrase we still use today.
While researching for his documentary on
the legendary bootlegger, Bailey Prior met
Richard Seale, fourth generation Master
Distiller at his family-owned Foursquare
Distillery. Together they developed a rum
in McCoy’s honour, unadulterated by
added sugars, flavours or perfumes.

Villa Lobos is the result of a friendship

world’s most respected and trusted tequila
authorities: Carlos Camarena, a third

The agave they use is entirely harvested

Arandas highlands, ensuring only the
sweetest and most mature are used to

bourbon casks are heavily charred while
sherry butts are gently toasted to retain
more of their gentle flavours.
Small batch and non-chill filtered, Hyde
Whiskey retains a full, rich flavour
reflecting the craft and patience that go
into its production.

as to title. In particular, all Terms and warranties which would otherwise
be implied by statute or under common law are hereby excluded to the

ADDITIONAL TERMS APPLICABLE TO EN PRIMEUR
13.1. Wines designated as “En Primeur” are lying abroad and are sold on a
‘futures’ basis before being bottled.
13.2. En Primeur orders are only accepted when confirmed in writing and may
only be ordered as full cases.
13.3. As En Primeur wine is bought on a ‘futures’ basis we are unable to
guarantee availability of the wine until it is released to you. In the event that
a wine is unavailable for reasons beyond our control, our liability will be
limited to payments made to us in respect of the order affected.
13.4. En Primeur prices are quoted exclusive of VAT and excise duty. The stated
product price for En Primeur wines constitutes a “first payment” which will
be processed immediately.
13.5. If you elect to receive En Primeur wines duty-paid, a second payment to
cover VAT, duty and delivery, will be charged at rates prevailing at the time
when the wine is released. This invoice must be paid before the wine can be
delivered to you. Deliveries are chargeable at the prevailing rates at the time
of delivery.
13.6. If you elect to receive En Primeur wines in-bond a second payment is
required to cover the transfer fee which will be charged at the
prevailing rate.
13.7. Orders should be dispatched to the customers nominated delivery location
within 8 weeks of the date the order is ready for dispatch. Walker &
Wodehouse reserve the right to transfer undelivered stock to a personal
bond account at no cost to the customer which will be created by Walker &
Wodehouse at Vinotheque Wines Limited.
13.8. Payment is due with the order, other than for approved credit accounts
when it is due 30 days from invoice date unless otherwise stated. We
reserve the right to cancel orders if we have not received payment within 14
days of the due date.
13.9. Title to the Wine shall remain with Walker & Wodehouse until payment
in full has been received for the Wine. You may resell the Wine but will
account for the sale if so required by Walker & Wodehouse and if title to
the Wine has not passed to you then prior to such sale you must notify the
purchaser of these Terms and Conditions relating to the title to the Wine.
