Today was such a great day. I
was at work thinking about the last
month, and all of the events we
have had. The Wild Goose is done
for this year, the shoot-out has
passed, we had a perfect day for
the Slimy Crud Run, there is no
meeting in May, I get a month off.
Then I said to myself, "Self, you
didn't do a letter this month." It's
May 4th today and it never crossed
my mind. So if the newsletter is late
this month I was me and all I can
say is I'm sorry.
first time.
I love to take a new person and
just watch them in complete
amazement of what the Slimy
Crud Run is. We put on 320
hard miles of mostly country
roads. I just want to share this
ride with everyone I know who
likes to ride. This year it was a
kid on a Harley.
There will not a May
meeting because the Saw Mill is
closed for Mother’s Day. So we
will see you in June.
The Wild Goose went off with
out a hitch. We all pitched in and
put on a great event again this
year. So thank you all again.

Ride Safe!
I was not able to make the
shooting part of the shoot-out, but I
did make the eating part. And boy,
did I eat. The food was great and I
was just not hungry anymore that
whole day. (I don't know why that
brunch only has to be once a year.)
After that, I went back to work for a
little while and then went back to
the gun range just as everyone
was cleaning up. Maybe next year.
The Slimy Crud Run was a
perfect day. All week it look like it
was going to rain all day. By
Saturday it looked like the rain
would come late. I don't think in 15
years I have ever seen so many
bikes. Parking lots that are never
full are full today. I took my
friend/former meat wrapper for his
Brian
Hello People!
Well, another month goes by, this time sick with the flu.
Missed a whole week of work. I don’t get sick enough to miss work
but this time it was bad. Medical fiends of mine say it is a bad strain that takes 4-5 weeks to run its course.
I believe it, 3 weeks later and I am still weak, no energy. Oh well…
It is getting green out! More bikes out on the warmer days. I still do not have my bike back, issues
have caused delays resulting in it not being completed on time. I’ve got my good bike, but having no fairing
on it makes for very cold riding in the morning and still being weak I’ve not trusted myself to ride to work.
Hopefully by next weekend I will have the bike back.
The big news is we have a date set for Pincherry: August 27 through August 30th! Mark your calendars
and lets hope for good weather! There should be an improved 12v lighting system in place by then, so we
shouldn’t need to run the generator as much, keeping it more peaceful and quiet out.
My shoot out was attended by the regulars, so we had 7 people show up at the gun club. Weather as
usual was pretty much perfect. As I had lost my records in the fire, I was reminded that we started this
annual event back in 2002! That’s 14 years now, with only one of those years having only a hint of rain!
Dang I’m good!
Hope more of you have been able to get out and ride. We need to get our mileage numbers back up to
respectable numbers after a disappointing last year.
Suit up and Ride! See you all on the road!
Wild Goose Run 2015 “Most Unique Bike” winner!
The owner also won "Youngest Rider" award. His name is
Spencer Faikel from Green Bay. The bike is a 1981 BMW
R100RS, converted by Spencer into a cafe racer.

http://goodworkswellness.com/how-motorcycle-riding-improves-physical-health/ Blog by Dr. Pamela Reilly
This blog post is dedicated to every rider who’s sick to death of those “motorcycles are so dangerous” conversations, to every
mother who’s convinced her son or daughter is insane for riding, and for anyone who needs a really good excuse to go out
and buy a bike. The bottom line is that riding a motorcycle is a form of low-impact exercise that improves muscle tone, can
assist with weight loss, and has a multitude of health benefits. These health benefits include but are not limited to:

Healthier, stronger knees and thighs: A well-known orthopaedic surgeon in Indy once told me that motorcycle
riders have fewer knee problems because riding a bike strengthens key muscles used to hold the patella and other
bones in the knee in place. He told me that riding a motorcycle may reverse knee pain and problems and can most
definitely prevent them. Most of the key muscles used to hold knee bones in place reside in the thigh. Ever notice that
chicks that ride bikes have nice thighs? There’s a reason! Additionally, backing a bike into a parking spot, especially
uphill, is basically like doing leg presses with a 600 pound weight. It works!
.

Improved core strength: Again, all of the activities involved in steering a bike, moving it at slow speeds, etc., serve
to strengthen muscles in the abdomen. It’s more fun that situps!!
.

Increased insulin sensitivity: Because riding a motorcycle is a low-impact form of exercise, people who ride have
improved insulin sensitivity for up to eight hours after a ride. Improved insulin sensitivity has a profound impact on
weight loss, because insulin is a fat storage hormone. Having improved insulin sensitivity means your body will
produce less insulin to counteract carbohydrates or to lower blood sugars, which means your body will be signaled to
store less fat. The improved insulin sensitivity is also of great importance to anyone with Type 2 diabetes. (See my
post, Diabetes and the Art of Motorcycle Riding for info on how riding a bike significantly lowers blood glucose levels.)
.

Calorie burning: Riding a bike burns calories. Period. Getting everything ready for a ride takes time and burns
calories, but there’s more. Think about it … it requires effort while riding to maintain balance, shift, brake, control the
clutch, battle headwinds, etc., and that’s AFTER you burn calories backing the bike out of the garage! Riding into a
headwind burns a significant amount of calories as your body tenses muscles to fight the wind and stay on the bike.
This constant resistance exercise not only burns calories but serves to strengthens those muscles, which ultimately
increases your metabolism. Additionally, the physical effort exerted while turning, especially at higher speeds, can be
significant. Folks who ride motocross or race motorcycles can burn up to 600 calories per hour; the rest of us burn
around 200-300 calories per hour. Not bad! (Note to passengers: You burn zero calories per hour while riding
passenger on a cruiser, and potentially up to 50 calories per hour while riding passenger on a sport bike. Maybe it’s
time to consider getting your own bike!)

Improved neck strength: This one is limited to those riders who wear helmets and those who have taken the time
to properly fit themselves to their bike with the correct handle bars, seat, foot pegs, etc. Riding a bike that doesn’t
“fit” well can actually cause back pain and destroy proper alignment. Make sure your bike fits you! Wearing a helmet
for a few hours a day would strengthen your neck whether you ride or not. Wearing it while riding, especially if you
don’t have a windshield to shelter you from the wind, requires significant strength. I’m happy to say, much to my
chiropractor’s chagrin, I was able to reverse whiplash simply by riding my bike and wearing a helmet. (I never ride
without one.) Strengthening my neck muscles served to pull my neck vertebrae back into alignment and back into the
proper curvature. That is a therapy I can live with!!!
.

Mental outlook: Motorcycle riders usually report returning from a ride feeling energized and happy. Many riders
refer to their motorcycle as their “therapist.” Riding a motorcycle has a wonderful way of releasing endorphins that
serve to boost mood and improve outlook. The time spent on a bike also provides valuable sun exposure, known to
increase Vitamin D levels which are known to be powerful mood enhancers. Additionally, the hours of alone time
spent on the back of a bike either allows folks to completely escape from their problems before hitting main or
allows them to work through problems and consider issues from different perspectives. I know more than one rider
who hops on their bike and takes a ride when they have an issue needing consideration. (This does not, of course,
apply to issues causing great distress.)
That’s it! Riding a motorcycle has definite health advantages, both physical and emotional. As always, ride smart. Get
thoroughly trained before starting to ride and then take time to practice on back roads thoroughfares. Take your time and
don’t try to beat lights or get in front of slow drivers. As always, NEVER drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Even one beer can affect reaction time enough to impair shifting, clutch operation and turning ability. Just don’t do it.
-4I’m off to ride. Have a great day!

The April meeting of the Port Washington BMW Club was called to order on
April 12, 2015 at 4:08 PM by President Brian. There were 13 members present
along with 2 guest; Doug Van Patten and Ines Kaestner. The minutes of the
March meeting were read and accepted. The treasurer’s report was read and
accepted.
OLD BUSINESS
Wild Goose Run: Final adjustments of jobs for the event were doled out by the president. Everything
appears set for next Sunday.
Stecker Shoot Out: April 26. We will meet at M J Stevens at 10:00 AM for brunch and then proceed
to the West Bend Barton Sportsman Club for an afternoon of playing with our toys. Everyone is
reminded to bring eye and hearing protection.
GR3: May 15-17, 2015. Brian will lead a ride Friday taking the long way there. He stated he will also
lead a ride on Saturday without gravel.
Slimy Crud Run: May 3, 2015. Brian stated he will be leaving the Pig in Kewaskum at 8:00 AM to get
there by 10:00. That will give them about 1 hour to look at bikes before heading out on the ride which
should be about another hour and then coming back. All told the ride should be about 300 miles for
the day.
Pincherry: No date yet.
Summer Club Party: Note the new dates, July 10-11-12, 2015. Terry’s cabin is located in the middle
of the state by Niellsville. We could do a ride up stopping for a Fish fry not too far from the cabin.
Saturday would consist of riders fanning out to see the sights and bringing their “booty” back to eat
and drink.
NEW BUSINESS
George Hollrith passed away. Wife Anne is to be an honoree member. Emil is to send a card of
condolence on behalf of the club.

05 MAY !Felicita Cinco de Mayo! Sorry I’m so late, but I wanted to get a
couple of last minute events in.
APR (and so far MAY) has been the traditional “In like a lion, out like a lamb”
crap. Temps from the low 30’s and light snow to the high 70’s; a lot of rain to
boot. Cease weather report.
As of the last newsletter, I tried to let everyone in the PORT Club know the
importance of the Travelling Trophy staying in King Brian’s living room; well
guess what!? WE WON AGAIN!
The PORT Club had the highest % (59) of members present, and the TT is
secure for another year. An interesting statistic: the MAD club tied with the WI
for largest attendance by numbers, despite their overall numbers.
My sweetie was awarded most “Mature Female” at the age of none-of-your-business. Al Meronek, at age
83, was thought to be a shoo-in but was trashed by his senior of three years by one Jon Ong, who came on a
Ural + sidecar rig. A new, off the radar, category was added under the guise of ‘Unique’, and it was won by
Spencer Faikel (from Green Bay) with a very sweet café racer style ‘81 R100RS. Jim ‘Santa’ Klas, a founder of
and still member of the PORT Club, was given an award (after his quick review re: the Goose history)
recognizing his service in and his leadership of the first years of the ‘Wild Goose Run’. And the weather was as
close to perfect as possible!
The 14th annual Stecker Shoot-Out (and yes, it has been researched as such…..) was the normal breakfast
and an occasional Bloody Mary at MJ Stevens. Moving on to the range were eight folks (occasionally nine)
looking to shoot at the paper targets, and that included various handguns and a couple shotguns. Dan’s
connection to Mother Nature held true, as the weather was as close to perfect as possible
Went to Mike Stanley’s 70th birthday party on 02 MAY. Good munchies, and different types of beer. Met lots of
Mike’s family one would never recognize as his kin, and some one would have. I took great delight in
addressing his card “Hey, you old fart…” and in the tour of Mike’s rooms. Like a Veteran’s memorial. I only had
to make two u-turns, and the weather was as close to perfect as possible.
The Slimey Crud Run (spring of 2015) was one of the most highly attended of all time, and many BMW’s of
many vintages from the 1600 down to the 250 singles were there. The odd bikes like the immaculate Honda
CBX turbo and the Norton 350 Manx (which made a VERY sweet noise) were also en force . (Alas, no more
MUNCH Man) King Brian was there with me as the only other PORT Club member, but many old friends and
some new were also there. Some detours between Pine Bluff and Leland led to different roads with strange
names (Possum Creek Road; Old Ridge Road, etc.) Once at Leland, we received some bad news. Junior
Sprecher, the (pretty much) founder of the Slimey Crud Run, and owner of the Sprecher Bar passed away on
01 APR 2015. A moving moratorium was given via bullhorn (typical) and the bar is up for sale. The police
stopped traffic as the riders were about thirty deep across the road. The many unusual bikes there only reflect
the history of this unique event. Will it be back? I can’t see how it will not. Besides, the weather was as close to
perfect as possible.
As you may have noticed from the beginning of this article, the weather has changed from bad-to-good-tobad to close to perfect. I expect that winter has broken. Take a chance and get out there and ride. I’m doing it,
and so can you. Let’s get WI back in the #1 spot in terms of miles per state.
Attached find some fotos from Slimey (maybe) and the internet for your enjoyment. (editor’s note: photos on pg
