Application Process for FCT PhD Scholarships

Step 1:
Go to the FCT registration page for scholarship applications:
https://concursos.fct.mctes.pt/bolsas/index.asp
You must first register with the FCT system. If you have not done so, please
click on the link marked, “To apply for registration, click here”, which is circled in
the above image.
Step 2:
Complete the information requested on the Pre-Registration page:
When you have completed the requested information, please click the button
marked “Pre-Registo” (for Pre-Register), which is circled in the image above.
3. A screen will appear saying you have completed your Pre-Registration.
4. You will receive an email with two sets of user identification and passwords.
Please use the “User Name” and “Password,” not the “Private Key” or “Public
Key,” to log into the system.
5. Return to the main FCT page and enter your User Name and Password in the
fields indicated with a circle below:
6. You will be taken to a page titled “Call for Applications.” You must click on the
link indicated with a circle below, which says: » Concursos para atribuição de
Bolsas de Doutoramento e Pós-Doutoramento 2007 no âmbito do Programa MIT
(Massachusetts Institute of Technology) - Portugal
Call for Applications for Postgraduate Scholarships MIT (Massachusetts Institute
of Technology) - Portugal Program”. Do not click the link titled “Edital,” as this is
simply a statement of the terms of the PhD competition, not the application form.
7. You will see a page titled “Application List.” Please select the Reference (a
series of letters and numbers) in order to access your application form.
Please note: if the right column in the Reference listing, titled
“Lacrado/Submitted,” says “Nao/No”, your application has not been completed. If
it says “Sim/Yes,” your application has been completed and you do not need to
take any further actions.
8. You will now see a page titled “Application Form.” This is a summary of all the
data you have entered into the system relative to your application. To edit this
data, use the 4 links on the left side of this page (see circle below), which allow
you to edit:
1) Application form information—this will let you choose a Scientific Domain.
The scientific domain must indicate your chosen Area, for example
Transportation Systems. If you wish you may also indicate a specific subdomain, such as Airports;
2) Mailing Address;
3) Candidate’s representative (“Procurador”): this is optional and you do not
need to fill in this space;
4) Motivation letter—this can be the same as you use in your MIT-Portugal
program application form;
5) Complete the application
Once you complete the information in Section 1, by selecting your Scientific
Domain and clicking on “Gravar e Continuar/Save and Continue”, you will be
taken automatically to the subsequent areas to complete.
9. Once you have completed all the necessary information, you need to Validate
and Submit your Grant Proposal:
By clicking “OK” next to “Submit Proposal” at the bottom of the page (see circle in
image above), you will complete your application to the scholarship.
