Tamil Nadu and Orissa
in INDIA.

By keeping the lit end of the
chutta in the mouth

A conical cigar made by rolling
tobacco leaf in the leaf of another
plant
Hooklis:
Clay pipes commonly used in
western India.
Chillum :
A straight, conical pipe made of
clay and smoked while holding it
vertically.
Hookha, shisha/sheesha,
water pipe,
nargeela/nargile/
narghile/nargileh/
narguilé,
argeela/arghileh/arguilé,
okka, kalyan, gewat
suckre, or
ghelyoon/ghalyan.
Many of these names are
of Arab, Indian, Turkish,
Uzbek, or Persian origin.
Paan masala / Gutkha:
This is a commercial preparation
containing areca nut, slaked lime,
catechu and condiments, with or
with powdered tobacco
PAAN (Betel quid) with Tobacco.
Paan comprises four main ingredients,
the betel leaf, areca nut, slaked lime and
acacia catechu. Tobacco is the most
important ingredient of paan
for regular users.
Mawa:
These are thin shavings of
areca nut combined with tobacco
and slaked lime.
Tobacco and slaked lime
(khaini):
A mixture of sun- dried tobacco
and slaked lime, this is popular in
Maharashtra and northern India.
Snus:
This Swedish snuff,
available in teabag-like pouches,
is kept in the buccal or labial
groove and sucked.
Mishri:
A roasted, powdered preparation
made by baking tobacco on a hot
metal plate until it is uniformly
black. Women in Maharashtra
use it .
Gul:
A tobacco product used as a
dentifrice in the eastern parts of
India.
Bajjar:
This is dry snuff or tapkeer,
applied by women in Gujarat on
their teeth and gums.
Gudhaku:
A paste made of tobacco and
molasses, it is applied to the teeth
and gums and is popular in Bihar,
Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and
Uttaranchal.
Creamy snuff:
These are prepared with
tobacco paste,
marketed in toothpaste-like tubes
Tobacco water:
Known as tuibur in Mizoram and
hidakphu in Manipur, it is made
by passing tobacco smoke
through water.
Dry Tobacco leaves
for chewing.
Tobacco-Habit -is NOT only a Health Hazard.
