Ads that interfere or cause technical problems for the visitors will be taken offline immediately. Maximum frame rate of SWF is 18 frames/sec (fps) All creative units must stay within the assigned ad area. The recommendation is to use clearly visible borders framing the ad. A creative using sound requires a start and stop button to be implemented. The sound must be muted on start and must be activated by the user. It is not allowed to start playing sound using so called mouseover. Creative units can consist of Flash movies (SWF), picture files (GIF/JPG/PNG) and/or in-line HTML. Links (URLs) must be opened in a new browser window: target="_blank". SvD.se uses the EmediateAd ad management system. All creative units must be delivered no later than three working days prior to campaign start. Failure to deliver creative in time may result in delayed campaign start. The delivery must be complete, that is, all relevant links and campaign information be submitted. Advertisers that have creative requirements or ideas that are not covered by this specification are welcome to contact SvD.se. We are more than willing to accept and test new creative solutions. However, we must have the possibility to verify that all creative units comply with our editorial and technical requirements. Any subject not covered in this specification is considered to be a non-standard creative and will require special attention by SvD.se. Flash ads The Flash format is the rich media ad standard of Internet today. Flash has opened up completely new possibilities in creative solutions. SvD.se supplies a so called sniff code for Flash detection. This code determines what Flash plug-in is in use and delivers a back-up ad (a GIF/JPG/PNGfile) in the event that the Flash plug-in is missing. Use clickTAG for linking the Flash file, it will be used to measure clicks and it also enables changing URL in an active campaign without assistance of the creative producer. Use on(release) instead of on(press) in order to avoid pop-up blocking. Supply a back-up ad in GIF/JPG/PNG-format. It will be displayed to the visitors lacking Flash plug-in or has an outdated version. Monitor the CPU intensity levels! Image ads (GIF/JPG/PNG) GIF and JPG are file formats commonly used for image files on the Internet. GIF and PNG are suitable for creative based on graphical elements, text and basic colours. It is possible to animate the GIF file format. There are no special requirements for the image files apart from current restrictions on dimensions and weight limitations. However, it is not permitted to use images that mimic or resemble the SvD.se framework. JavaScript The general rule is that all creative functionality should be contained in the Flash Ad. However, there are cases where it can be an advantage to use external JavaScript. All JavaScript must be thoroughly tested by the ad producer. SvD.se does not have the possibility to test and correct faulty JavaScript code. Code that causes problems will be removed from the site immediately. Make your own prefix and place it in front of variable- and function names. For example: mycompany_myFunction(); or mycompany_myString = ”string”;. This, in order to prevent conflicts with other ads or the code implemented by SvD.se. It is not permitted to script objects outside of the assigned ad area. Newsletter The newsletter is comprised of editor material and is sent to subscribers with regular intervals. There are two creative units that can be included into a newsletter. Dimensions and weight limitations: Top 660x100 px (35kB) Only GIF or JPG formats are allowed and the consequence being that third party impression counting is not available. However, third party click counting is available. Interstitial An Interstitial is placed in a layer on-top of the site and will partly cover the content. An Interstitial must contain a clearly visible close button and furthermore the layer must close itself automatically after 8 seconds. The two ads are shown at the same time. The use of so called Local Connection enables the ads to communicate with each other and thereby add functionality. • • Dimensions and weight limitations: svd.se Panorama 1020x120 px (52KB) Outsider 250x800 px (75KB) When using Local Connection make sure that the correct security settings are used in the Flash files. Please advice: Using Flash Banners document If the ads should be aligned the dimensions of the Panorama must be 1020x120 px. First page/Splash The Splash at SVD.se is a full page ad that appears to the visitor before coming to SVD's homepage. The ad must be produced as a scalable flash together with an associated gif or jpg backup ad. What must be included is a box consisting of an RSS feed with SVD's latest news and a “close” button. The box is provided by Svenska Dagbladet who sends it to the agency who is about to produce the ad. The Production Office integrates the feed into the advertiser's ad. Name them accordingly: Ad marking: Close button When your ad appears, the visitor can choose to either move on to SVD.se by clicking on a link in the SVD-box, or click anywhere else in the ad to get to the advertiser's landing page. This ad solution opens up creative solutions where the box with the RSS feed can be placed anywhere on the page. The ad works in most operating systems and most browsers. The close button should be placed in the upper left corner, but must only be a link to the SvD homepage http://www.svd.se with target “_self”. Third pary tracking can be done by tracking pixel. The backup ad needs to have a slightly different appearance because of the lack of RSS feed functionality. Instead of the RSS feed, an image needs to be inserted together with the Svenska Dagblade logo together with and the text ”För de senaste nyheterna – Gå vidare till SvD” This image is provided by Svenska Dagbladet, together with other material for the RSS feed. In order to use this technique the following requirements must be full-filled: The creative units should be produced using a so called pre-loader- or container technique. A minimum of 5 seconds must pass before the creative request any streaming content or alternatively a start button can be included for user interaction. The creative must contain a clearly visible pause button. It is not permitted to start playing sound automatically or by using so called mouse-over. If sound is going to be used be sure to implement a mute button. The creative holding the streaming content must not exceed the dimensions or weight limitations for the ad in question. When using files or content originating from third party server make sure that the correct security settings are used in the Flash files. Please advice: Using Flash Banners document. Pre-roll and web TV player The Web TV player contains four creative formats: an Intro, Video Ad and two Flash Ads. The Intro must be a SWF, it can contain video, sound and have a maximum length of 5 seconds. When the Intro has finished playing the following AS2 code must be run: _level0.introAdDone=true; The SWF cannot refer to _level, it must refer to _root. Global variables are not allowed. The Video ad must be in MPEG2, QuickTime, AVI eller WMV-format with a maximum length of 15 seconds. It can contain sound. The content is streaming video. The framerate of the Video ad and Skyscraper must be 25 fps. The Flash Ads included in the Web TV player should be in SWF format and may not contain video or sound. Maximum framerate 18 fps. Expanding flash ads An expanding ad automatically changes its dimensions whenever a visitor interacts with the ad. The creative unit should be produced using the dimensions the expanded ad will have. The ad management system will expand the creative on mouse over and collapse it on mouse out. Dimensions and weight limitations: svd.se Same as for other flash banners. An expanding ad is a specialised format and thus requires approval on beforehand. Recommendations for web advertising Keep the deadlines in mind the ad department has a lot to do and does not always have the possibility to assist in the last minute. Monitor performance Flash ads quickly become CPU-intensive. The consequence being that anti-aliasing on text may disappear. Image and animation quality may deteriorate etc. The worst case scenario is that the Flash plug-in freezes and hangs the application altogether. Nonfunctioning ads are taken off-line immediately. The creative is visible the ad placements on SvD.se belong to one of Sweden’s large ad spaces. Excessive animations and colour schemes are not needed in order to attract visitors’ attention. On the contrary they are almost always seen as something irritating or distracting, thus causing bad will towards advertiser or SvD.se it is far more effective to focus on the message or offer in order to reach our visitors.
