On behalf of the Officers of the DC Friends of Ireland I would like to wish you
a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. Two thousand and thirteen will likely be
both an exciting and challenging year for our country and our movement. This year we
already have a number of events planned for the DC Friends with more to come. The
beginning of the New Year is a good time to reflect on how our organization was born
of the commitment of a group of dedicated Irish Trade Unionists to celebrate the holiest of holy days, March 17th. It is an appropriate time to acknowledge how far we have
come because of your support, and how much we have been able to give to charitable
organizations along the way. And it doesn’t get any better than having the opportunity
in April to honor our brother, our friend, Building and Construction Trades Department
President Sean McGarvey. Sean never forgets where he came from, he never forgets the
value of hard work and those who do it, and he never forgets the mission of the trade
union movement. I look forward to seeing you at our 2013 Irish Festival in April.

Mister Meany would be proud of one of his offspring, the D.C. Friends
of Ireland. It is alive and doing well. It is doing what he wanted it to
do. Trade unionists and their friends, Irishmen and other hyphenated
Americans, have continued to come together to enjoy each other’s
company and do what is right for children, veterans and others who
deserve our help. We have three events planned for early 2013 already.
I say I’m not a gambler, but I’m told we have a big Exacta working.
See you at the membership meeting in February.
Thank you,
Jim Kennedy
President
