Sheer pleasure in research: In just two generations Wolfsburg has been galvanised into one of
the most promising cities in Germany. There is a
constant sense that things are on the move here.
The city is developing rapidly, but in proportion - and
without losing sight of the people who live and work
here. Wolfsburg is built on courage, know-how and
quality of life. This is the reason why more and more
people are drawn to Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg as a business location is incredibly strong
and provides some outstanding perspectives. The
commercial driving force of the Volkswagen Group
is wide-spread, yet also releases a lot of powerful
energy into the immediate area.
This energy has an impact on the car industry and
moreover provides scope for good ideas and clever
minds. The location is constantly developing within
a tangibly pro-business atmosphere.
One strong aspect of Wolfsburg is the quality of life
with its soothing family-friendliness, its excellent
recreational value, inspiring cultural life and international charisma. It’s easy to switch off in our
green city with its expansive natural landscapes.
The local energy has created a city full of contrasts
between the traditional and the modern. And all that
just makes you want more.
Welcome to Wolfsburg!

VOLKSWAGEN.
Anyone who thinks of Wolfsburg will automatically
think of Volkswagen, the biggest car manufacturer
in Europe - and on the way to becoming number one
in the world. In the Wolfsburg area there are around
half a million employees. The factory premises cover more than 6 km2 and a 75 km long road network.
In 2014 Volkswagen produced over 830.000 cars and
thus become a record-breaking brand. Even if car
production seems to be the most important, the focus on careers has shifted more towards services,
research and development. In research and development (RTD) alone, the biggest innovation centre
in Germany outside of a university, there are over
10.000 employees.

entertainment with its inspiring open spaces and atmosphere.

FACTS, RANKING, HISTORY
Allerpark Bridge
Culture in Wolfsburg is engaging, manifold,
has received multiple awards and is prominent in
Lower Saxony. You can experience it either in the
Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg or in the Planetarium, in
the theatre, in the phæno, in the Hallenbad - Kultur
am Schachtweg or in Wolfsburg Castle with several
exciting cultural institutions under one roof (e.g. the
Städtische Galerie).
The vibrant cultural life sets trends and enriches
everyday life. Last but not least, mega events such
as the dance festival Movimentos, the dragon boat
race and the Sommerbühne (summer stage) prove
very popular.
Wolfsburg challenges itself and has secured its
high ranking with a full range of sports (120 sport
clubs, 40.000 active members) and first-class top
level sport (VfL Wolfsburg, EHC Wolfsburg Grizzly
Adams).
northern Germany’s biggest leisure and activity spa
BadeLand, the VfL-FußballWelt and much more.
Wolfsburg is THE green city – the fact that 45 % of
its area is green space speaks for itself. Whether it’s
about relaxing, or if you want to top up on fresh air
for health or fitness reasons: Landscapes, nature
reserves, parks, woods and green spaces provide
offer the environment that you need. Add to that the
140 km worth of cycling lanes, which isn’t just for
endurance athletes.
Architecture of contrasts: With Hans Scharoun,
Alvar Aalto, Peter P. Schweger, Gunter Henn and
Zaha Hadid, architects have created trend-setting
buildings in Wolfsburg. There is hardly any other
German city where you can experience the architecture of the twentieth century so tangibly within
such a compact space.
The Allerpark recreation area is right on your
doorstep. Leisure enthusiasts really get their money’s worth here. All for you: a 1.2 km long beach and
numerous attractions, such as the SoccaFive Arena,
“monkeyman” high wire course, STRIKE Event- und
Bowlingcenter, Wakepark water skiing centre, plus
The traditional areas and historical buildings are
also astonishing, for instance the Wolfsburg Castle
and the old towns of Fallersleben and Vorsfelde. It
doesn’t come any more rich in contrasts than this.
5
Ideal places to shop and have a wander: The
Wolfsburg designer outlets, the high street in the
city centre with the City-Galerie, water features and
spaces for relaxing. The districts Fallersleben and
Vorsfelde have more shopping experiences on offer.
Wolfsburg is also renowned for its gastronomical
variety and quality - including three-Michelin-star
chefs. This is unique in Lower Saxony.

FAMILY
ECONOMY
■ HOME GAME. Wolfsburg gives children, young people and families its special attention.
As the first large city in Germany, Wolfsburg received the seal of “Kinderfreundliche
Kommune” from a society supported by Unicef Germany and the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk.
The city invests in schools and day nurseries, in care provision and in attractive living spaces,
but above all in people and their future.
■ INNOVATIVE. A dynamic approach to the future. As the most dynamic business location
in Germany, Wolfsburg is recognised as having a good labour market and above-average
economic strength and purchasing power. On top of that there is the excellent connection to
many business centres directly on the East/West transport axis. The transport routes are ideal
due to the connection to the ICE network, to the A2 and the Mittelland Canal.
Volkswagen AG
Education: Children of Wolfsburg benefit from
modern schools with a variety of profiles, including cultural education, bilingual services in daycare
centres and schools. Following that there are strong
youth support measures and effective training support. This helps provide orientation and perspective.
In Wolfsburg there are around 118,000 employed
people who are subject to mandatory social insurance contributions.
At the headquarters of Volkswagen AG there are
over 70.000 people, ca. half of them work in the service provision section. Wolfsburg is thus gathering
more and more speed and is increasingly flourishing as a service provision and research location.
VISITOR MAGNET

Wolfsburg is growing. Because more and more
people want to work and live here, around 6,000
new residential units will be built by the year 2020.
Beautiful locations, manifold services and a family
support programme make Wolfsburg particularly
attractive as the centre of any family’s life.

Careers and families can go well together: This
is provided for by high quotas of full-day primary schools, kindergarten places and holiday care
services.

The Autostadt in the heart of Wolfsburg is
a popular destination and is among one of the
most visited leisure parks. With the park
and lakes spanning 28 ha, the ZeitHaus,
the most visited car museum in the world and
the numerous cultural events and activity
attractions, the theme park invites its visitors
to take an unforgettable journey into the world
of mobility in Germany.
Even beyond the car industry, heterogeneous structures fit for the future are developing - right down
to the leisure sector with attractive tourist offers.
Wolfsburg’s reputation as a location for science
and education is consolidated by Volkswagen AG’s
numerous research and development facilities, the
manufacturing industry, the phæno science centre,
the AutoUni and in particular the up-and-coming
Ostfalia - an institution of higher education for
applied sciences. Over 3,000 students study at the
FH in the subject areas of vehicle, production and
process technology, health services and business.
Wolfsburg as a venue for trade fairs: The Internationale Zuliefererbörse (IZB), international trade fair
of manufacturers, has particularly made Wolfsburg
famous as a venue for trade fairs. Moreover the
Wolfsburg CongressPark, the Forum AutoVision,
the Autostadt, the Volkswagen Area, the Hallenbad - Kultur am Schlachtweg and the hotel business
provide excellent conditions for trade fairs, conferences and congresses.
