MLAK – Master Locksmiths Access Key
Most public toilets are open during daylight hours and then locked at night for security reasons. Some
toilets are only accessible by using a special key – MLAK. This special key and lock allows people with
disabilities to access public toilets reserved for their use only. To purchase a key for about $10, you must
obtain a letter of authorisation from a disability organisation, local doctor or other health professional and
take this to any Master Locksmith.

Beach FreeWheelers
A Beach FreeWheeler is available at Bilgola and Newport beaches.
This wheelchair’s soft pneumatic balloon tyres roll easily over sand to allow access to the beach and
water’s edge for people who use wheelchairs or find the beachfront difficult to negotiate.
The FreeWheeler is available at no cost for use on these beaches. Contact the volunteer lifesavers at the
patrol tent on the beach.

Avalon Community Library is located on the first floor of Avalon Recreation Centre.
Wheelchair access is provided via a lift from the ground floor of the Avalon Recreation Centre. This is a
community library, run primarily by volunteers.

The community centres are provided for use by individuals and community groups to pursue their various
social, recreational and cultural activities. Most of these venues are available for hire on a casual or
regular basis. The community centres cater for a diverse range of activities and functions. For more
