IGO N60 is imbedded in the heart of central Norway, a land synonymous with adventure and home to the Heroes of Telemark raid. The locals share the same passions as IGO and the terrain selected is a place of untamed wilderness and immense natural beauty. It is the location for British Special Forces training and where Scott trained for his final expedition, this is a snow-kissed paradise that has earned the respect of countless polar explorers. The route, designed by our head guide Rune Abrahamsen, allows the competitors to explore the best of this incredible landscape between the towns of Hemsedal and Geilo. THE 4 STAGES ARE: DAY 1: TOURING SKI AND DOWNHILL SKI DAY 2: MARATHON FAT BIKE (FOLLOWED BY HUSKY DOGSLED) DAY 3: MARATHON CROSS-COUNTRY SKI DAY 4: MARATHON RUN 1 IGOADVENTURES.COM ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// THE EVENT ITINERARY SATURDAY 12TH MARCH SUNDAY 13TH - MONDAY 14TH MARCH • Competitors • Competitors arrive in Hemsedal mid-afternoon and transfer to the 4* Skarsnuten Hotel fitting and evening meal with welcome address spend 2 days training for fat bike, cross-country skiing and touring ski. Further briefings on safety, terrain and race rules *MONDAY NIGHT KIT INSPECTION* TUESDAY 15TH MARCH THURSDAY 17TH MARCH • Depart • Cross • Kit Skarsnuten AM, race begins with touring ski • Race Country ski stage start in AM. This will be a staggered start with competitors leaving in different waves consists of 5-10 checkpoints • Presentation each evening of ‘Tour de France’-style Sprinter’s and GC Jerseys • Camp • Competitor’s overnight in Nordic lavvus FRIDAY 18TH MARCH • The camps will be constructed and de- constructed while competitors are racing • Final stage - marathon run, ending in Geilo near the Vestlia Hotel • This stage will begin later than the others so that the supporters arriving on the Friday are there in time to cheer competitors in. Race start will be 10am WEDNESDAY 16TH MARCH • Depart camp AM and cycle (Fat Bike stage) to finish line. Competitors will spend the evening driving huskies • Everyone final night in Lavuus • Party camps for the night at the finish line near the Vestlia From Thursday evening friends and family of the race party begin to arrive in Geilo. They spend the evening getting their kit fitted then ski on Friday until competitors start to arrive. *These guests will need their own insurance, not insured through IGO. SATURDAY 19TH MARCH SUNDAY 20TH MARCH • Competitors • Everyone can relax, get a massage and enjoy the pool. Guests can ski or try any of the disciplines that have occurred during the race including dog sledding plus the opportunity to go kite skiing. Adventures further afield, such as whale spotting and hunting the Northern Lights are also possible. has further opportunities to ski or do the choice of experiences. Train departs for Bergen early afternoon and flight home leaves Sunday evening. Competitors and guests may choose to stay on for the week – these will be dealt with on an ‘ad hoc’ basis. This is achieved through two full physical analyses, conducted before and after the training period, in conjunction with comprehensive fitness and nutrition regimes. Physical analyses conducted by the elite performance team at Surrey Sports Park: Specialist Nutrition Package: • • Full physiological Analysis and musculoskeletal examination • Cardio Pulmonary Exercise Test (CPET) - includes VO2 max and ECG • Lactate Threshold • Body Composition Based upon the specific demands of the particular event our Nutritionist will design a nutrition package to complement the training regime and to fit around the competitors’ lifestyle. Through two fully professional athlete profiles we ensure that: • The competitor gets the absolute maximum out of their training • The competitor can appreciate the advances they have made • The competitor, as well as the IGO Team, can feel confident that they are up to the IGO Quadrathlon Bespoke Training Package: • Each of our professional athletes submit their proposed training regimes to our Head Personal Trainer • Based on these schedules, and the specific competitor’s personal anatomy and goals, a bespoke training package is developed • Personalised weekly schedules are delivered via the IGO Training app or email • Every competitor has access to ongoing support during their training regimes Head of Performance, Mark Garfoot. • • A former lecturer and strength and conditioning coach for a Premier League team, Mark is now performance manager at Surrey Sports Park His work has covered everything from junior athletes to Olympians 7 IGOADVENTURES.COM ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// N60º SKILLS TRAINING (INCLUDED IN RACE ENTRY) An IGO is an excellent opportunity to intensively learn and develop skills. You do not need to be a professional crosscountry skier, runner, cyclist or downhill skier to enter The Norwegian Challenge. We believe competitors of all levels can enter the race. Terrain and Safety Briefings: Run: • Full briefing from a leading guide in the area on the race terrain including current snow conditions and potentially hazardous areas • Full briefing from a qualified medic on first aid in the race, how to manage the physical strain and injuries, and how to communicate and respond if a competitor needs to be medically evacuated • Full training regime designed by leading professionals based on bespoke fitness tests • Advice on suitable shoes for the terrain and potential adaptations for running on snow Touring Ski: • Briefing and advice in London on strategy and bespoke training package • Training during first weekend of N60 in Norway • Option for training weekend in the lead up to N60 to develop skiing ability. This may be mandatory for some competitors. Cross-Country Ski: • Training regime carried out on roller-skis in London (can also be arranged in other cities) • Training during first weekend of N60 in Norway • Coaching from former World Champion cross-country skier Siri Halle (Team N60) Fat Bike: • Training on repairs and fittings of the fat bike • Training during first weekend of N60 in Norway 8 IGOADVENTURES.COM ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// N60º PHILANTHROPY IGO N60° will change more lives than just those of the competitors. Whilst fundraising is not compulsory, IGO will urge competitors to raise money for personal causes. Whether directly or indirectly, everyone involved in IGO helps to drive positive change in the lives of those who need it most. SIRI HALLE Cross-Country Ski Consultant BEN NYBERG Logistics Operator All round Super Norwegian Siri Halle is a former Jr World Champion and World Champion crosscountry skier. She also holds 3 MBAs, has worked for the UN, is a best-selling author, has worked as a consultant for Accenture and has been a crucial asset for the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) working in Islamabad, Palestine and Malawi. Siri is a fantastic example to all our IGO team, demonstrating how extreme physical attainment frequently goes hand in hand with success in other fields. To ensure the competitors can fully concentrate on the race we have the CEO of the best tour operator in the region handling the logistics. British Ben, who has Norwegian family, went on holiday to Norway 15 years ago and never came back. He established Ski Norway before setting up Scandinavian Travel, which brings the same level of excellence to the wider region. He will personally be taking care of all travel for both competitors and guests, which ensures the foundations of the event are on a very secure footing. RUNE ABRAHAMSEN Guide and Route Planner ANDRÉ AND MARI BJORNSTAD Head of Huskies and Dog Sledding Rune is one of the most experienced guides in Norway and the premier guide in this region. He has over 20 years experience of climbing these summits and partaking in every outdoor activity both on his own and as a guide and instructor for others. He holds a sports and extreme outdoor training degree from Volda University and a masters from Sogndal University, along with elite climbing instructor qualifications as well as being an avalanche instructor through Norwegian Mountain Sport Association. There is no-one who knows this land better than Rune and he is a fantastic asset to IGO. This brother and sister team have been mushing all their lives. André is a leading competitor in all of the biggest global Dog sled races, typically racing over 200-400km, while Mari takes the lead on the doghandling and organisation. The love for the dogs and the dogsledding runs in their blood and was passed down to them by their parents; during winter their school run was done on a dogsled!
