56 th A N N UA L HAWAIIAN INTERNATIONAL BILLFISH TOURNAMENT 1959-2015 KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII AUGUST 7 - 16, 2015 OFFICIAL PROGRAM $5.00 F I F T Y - S I X T H A N N U A L HAWAIIAN INTERNATIONAL BILLFISH ASSOCIATION, INC. P resents the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament by HIBT, Inc., a non-profit corporation which was incorporated in 1974. Its major work was to operate a fishing tournament created by six men in 1959, to assume the work and records of the HIBT from Peter Fithian and direct attention to Kailua-Kona as a year round quality Big Fish (Marlin and Tuna) destination. The six men were Porter Dickenson, Peter S. Fithian, Dudley C. Lewis, Richard F. MacMillan, Desmond Stanley, Edward D. Sultan, Sr. and C.M. Cooke III joined soon after. It later became evident that there was little or no knowledge about the life cycle of the marlin. Due to John C. Marr’s urging, the HIBA Board founded a 501C3 Scientific Corporation and called it the Pacific Ocean Research Foundation (PORF). Over a period of 15 years, more than 65 scientific papers were written by scientists with credit to PORF. PORF dominated the study of science for the Pacific Blue Marlin working with Stanford University and the IGFA to further the understanding of the life of this marlin which has had so much to do with the rise in interest for game fishing worldwide. PORF has been involved for more than 40 years and intends to continue its efforts in the coming years. Your participation will aid in the continuance of these efforts. DIRECTORS Sincere appreciation to the many volunteers and donors who help to make the HIBT the unique experience it is. TABLE OF CONTENTS Peter S. Since its inception by Chairman Peter Fithian and associates 56 years ago, the HIBT has prided itself in following strict International Game Fish Association rules for world record big game fishing. Teams from all over the world, including Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, Japan, China, Vanuatu, the United Kingdom and the United States, gather to participate in this most prestigious game fishing tournament. Mahalo to the directors, officials, staff and volunteers for your hard work and dedication in making this tournament possible again this year and highlighting Hawai‘i as a premier location for world class big game fishing. My best wishes for another successful tournament! With warmest regards, David Y. Ige Governor, State of Hawai‘i Mayor’s Message On behalf of the people of the County of Hawai‘i, I wish to congratulate the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament celebrating its 56th anniversary from August 7–15, 2015. The important contributions of this tournament to the Kona sports fishing tradition and the overall quality of life on Hawai‘i Island over the past half century have made the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament an integral part of our island community. We welcome local participants from Hawai‘i, and teams from around the world, traveling from the mainland United States, Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, Japan, China, Vanuatu and the United Kingdom to compete. The many who return every year are a testament to the enduring quality of the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament. The County of Hawai‘i applauds the organizers of this tournament for your outstanding efforts to perpetuate this highly enjoyable and entertaining sporting event. Best wishes for another successful and enjoyable tournament this year, and best of luck to all the competing teams. Aloha, Billy Kenoi, Mayor Founder’s Message – Aloha & Welcome to Kona It is my pleasant duty to welcome you to the 56th Annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament on behalf of all of the volunteers who have contributed to making this happen, the anglers that have gone before and the Founders that had the vision to create the HIBT. To those pictured above, mahalo for your important continuing support which makes this all possible. This contest was organized to let the world know about the beauty that surrounds very wonderful fishing grounds, then relatively unknown to the world, and to share with fellow anglers the warmth of the citizens along the Kona Coast. We are dedicating an evening to host a Silent Auction that is being organized under the auspices of the Pacific Ocean Research Foundation (PORF) who has been involved in the study of the Pacific Blue Marlin for many years with the continuous support from the HIBT. This event will be held on Friday August 7th. We believe that the HIBT is competitive fishing in the Olympic Spirit, with Anglers based worldwide competing for medals and honor. Please play forward accordingly. May the best team win. Peter S. Fithian, For all of the founders 1959-2015 4 | H.I.B.T. 2015 HIBT 2015 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS This schedule is subject to change. He is also remembered as an innovative restaurateur and hotelier. Not many know that Bob Herkes was also the catalyst in moving the Ironman Triathlon World Championship from Oahu to Kona in 1980. His vision of what Ironman could become and his unwavering support as General Manager of the Kona Surf Resort (now Sheraton Kona) allowed the fledgling race a foothold in Kona where it would ultimately become a worldwide brand. Bob loved fishing. He and Peter Fithian were friends for over 50 years and Bob was a lifetime supporter of the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament. Bob and Peter Fithian both studied hotel management at Cornell University and began their careers at Interisland Resorts. Old timers will remember Peter Fithian as Kona Inn’s hotel manager in its heyday. Bob first fished at HIBT in 1960, its second year. While his record catches are not documented (really, were there any?), stories abound on Bob’s cooking skills and storytelling. Rumors of wine, women and song persist though women weren’t even allowed to fish in the early days of the tournament. Memories dim, but as early as 1963 Bob worked with local legend and newspaper cartoonist Harry Lyons on the daily HIBT newspaper, “Ahi Daily News.” Over the years, that daily became “The Billfish Bull—All the News That’s Fish, We Print.” Bob continued as Billfish Bull editor after Harry Lyons untimely death in 1989. Bob loved parades and he was thrilled to serve as the Grand Marshal of the 53rd Annual HIBT Parade. For the last two decades Bob served as “the voice” of the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament on Kailua Pier. He loved the camaraderie at the pier and he never tired of it even as his health declined. 2014 was a tough one for Bob as he faced a multitude of health issues. He rested up, gathered his strength and was on Kailua Pier from early morning until late afternoon. He thrilled the fans with his take on the big, and not so big, catches. He related to wife Jo-Anna that he needed to get better physically as he did not want to let Peter and Bobbi down. Bob attended the HIBT Awards Banquet last year and died unexpectedly 19 days later. Somewhere up there Bob Herkes and Harry Lyons have reunited and are continuing their legacy of fishing tales. Bob is survived by wife Jo-Anna and sons Bobby, Ken and Doug. We also want to remember these friends of the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament who are no longer with us. They will be missed. Red Butler Billy Ross Randy Llanes Julie Spinello www.hibtfishing.com | 11 MISS BILLFISH 2015 Cheri Maria Sumikawa Lavoie Cheri Maria Sumikawa Lavoie feels honored to be Miss Billfish 2015. She is the daughter of Phil and Naomi Lavoie and a dedicated big sister to sixteen-year old brother Yuki. Born on Kauai and raised in Kailua-Kona, she has been a big fan of fishing all her life and has many friends in the industry. Graduating from Kealakehe High School, she went on to study dance at Santa Monica Community College and at UC Berkeley. After her schooling, she returned to her beautiful Hawaii to pursue a career in real estate. Like many local fishermen, Cheri has a passion for learning and enriching the culture and, of course, eating fish! This past May, she competed in the Miss Hawaii pageant as the first Miss Hualalai. She was grateful for the opportunity to confirm her connection with the land and ocean, reminiscent of the Hawaiian ahupua’a system. An affirmation of the ahupua‘a resources being adequately provided for the community through the preservation, development and maintenance of the classic - mountain to sea parcels of land. Being Miss Billfish 2015 and part of the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is a reconfirmation of these beliefs. She extends a warm MAHALO and ALOHA to all that attend the 2015 Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament and come to our beautiful town of Kailua-Kona and hope you take with you many treasured memories. Best of luck to all the teams of this multicultural event! A hui hou… s Wargo Shark Tale I went surfing with my friend McKenzie on the north shore of the Big Island of Hawaii at a surf spot called “Lighthouse” located in the town of Hawi. At approximately 10:20 am, I was paddling to catch a wave and I heard my friend screaming. I looked back and saw her and her surfboard two feet in the air with a large shark taking her out to sea. I immediately started paddling towards her as fast as I could. I saw the dorsal fin of the shark was three feet tall and the shark was pushing her so fast and hard that it’s tail was motoring back and forth so violently that it was throwing white water all around. I saw the shark drop her as I continued to paddle in her direction. The shark came back again, attacked and bit McKenzie and her surfboard. I saw McKenzie rip her hand out of the sharks mouth which caused her to fall off of her surfboard and into the water. The shark still had a hold of her surfboard and McKenzie was still attached to it by the surf leash on her ankle. The shark began to dive, dragging McKenzie underwater as she tried unsuccessfully to take the leash off of her ankle. The shark dropped the surfboard and I was able to catch up and be about four feet from McKenzie. Out of the corner of my left eye, I saw the shadow of the shark two feet beneath the surface swimming right by me and heading straight toward McKenzie. She was off her surfboard and treading water. I reached down and grabbed the dorsal fin of the shark with both hands to try to stop it from getting to her. I was pulled off of my surfboard sideways and had my surfboard across my lap. My 12 | H.I.B.T. 2015 hands on the dorsal fin and kicking with my feet trying to stop the shark. Meanwhile yelling to her to get back on her board. I finally slowed it down to within one foot of McKenzie and was able to free my right hand and start punching it between the gills and the dorsal fin. I hit the shark as hard as I could. I felt like my hand was going to be broken after four blows the shark didn’t even notice the fifth blow. I felt the shark shudder in my left hand that was still holding the dorsal fin and the shark stopped and slowly turned out to sea. The shark was pulling me with it and I let go of its dorsal fin at that time. I asked McKenzie if she was alright and she said “no, the shark bit my fingers off!” I looked at her hand and saw five fingers and flapping flesh. Blood was everywhere. I asked her if she could paddle and she said “yes”, and we started paddling to shore. By this time, there were two guys surfing a little farther out and they saw the commotion and made their way to us. I told them to watch our backs as we paddle to shore. I was not sure if the shark, that we now had no idea where it went, would come back for her a fourth time or not. As the four of us paddled in, we had to duck dive under a set of five, six foot waves. We got to the shore and McKenzie took off her wetsuit top and wrapped it around her hand and I called up 911 as we drove to the hospital. 2015 BOAT DIRECTORY Anxious 33’ Bertram Foxy Lady 46’ Hatteras Bite Me 2 46’ Hatteras Captain: Neal Isaacs Crew: Jeff Metzler, Brian Schumaker 808-987-1127 [email protected] Captain: Boyd DeCoito Crew: Kama DeSilva 808-960-3009 [email protected] Captain: Brian Wargo Crew: Sawyer Slater 808-936-4130 [email protected] Bite Me 3 40' Egg Harbor Bite Me 6 41’ Hatteras EZ Pickens 54’ Hatteras Captain: Andy Diehl Crew: Tommy Huppunen Captain: Deneen Wargo Crew: Brandon Wilder 808-987-1422 [email protected] Fire Hatt 43’ Hatteras High Flier 39’ Custom Captain: Chuck Wigzell Crew: Simon Brown, Matt Ferino Hooked Up 40’ Uniflite Captain: Chuck Wilson Crew: Linda Wilson, Brett Lazenby 808-987-0038 [email protected] Captain: Guy Terwilliger Crew: Sam Choy 808-960-5866 [email protected] Captain: Jim Wigzell Crew: Rij Daughty, Zac Wigzell 808-960-5877 [email protected] Humdinger 37’ Rybovich Ihu Nui 45' Monterey Illusions 39’ Topaz Captain: Jeff Fay Crew: Brett Fay 808-936-3034 [email protected] Captain: McGrew Rice Crew: Carlton Arai, Jennifer Rice 808-960-1424 [email protected] Captain: Tim Hicks Crew: Chris Kam, Jordan Kilkenny 808-960-7371 [email protected] Kona Blue 53’ Hatteras Kona Seafari 41’ Hatteras Kuuipo 38' Phoenix Captain: David Crawford Crew: Mike Dakil, Jonah Marks 808-960-6064 [email protected] Captain: David Bertuleit Crew: TBD 808-960-3527 [email protected] Captain: Kevin Hiney Crew: Lil Purdy www.hibtfishing.com | 13 TBA 808-960-3527 [email protected] Daniel Walker [email protected] Lady Dee Lady Dee 46' Bertram Marlin Magic 43'Lanakila Allied [email protected] 2015 BOAT DIRECTORY 46’Captain: Bertram Allan Ayano Captain: Crew: Chuck Wigzell Kip Taylor Crew: 936-1110 [email protected] 936-1110 [email protected] Lanakila Maggie Joe 36’ Concorde 49’Captain: Custom Bomboy Captain: Llanes Mike DeRego Crew: Crew: James Takaki, Mark Lantagne, Bryron Ito 808-987-0300 Ty Hoza [email protected] 808-360-2097 [email protected] Lightspeed Medusa 47’ Cabo 38’ Oceans Captain: 36’Captain: Concord Jason Holtz Captain: Crew: Bomboy Llanes Brian Toney Crew: 960-9097 Byron [email protected], Chad Kieswetter 808-987-0300 [email protected] Captain: Kerwin Masunaga RobCrew: Ellyn Crew: Heather Masunaga, JesseShiraki Dixon, Kevin Larry Peardon 808-987-4327 808-960-2109 [email protected] Medusa Silky Maverick 45’ Viking Marlin Grando 38’ Ocean 38’ Bertram Captain: SteveCaptain: Kaiser Bill Crew: Casey Steve Roney, Crew: Ross O'Brien Honda Fran 808-936-4383 [email protected] Miss Mojo Miss Mojo 41’ G &S 41’Captain: G&S Captain: Rob Ellyn Lance Gelman Crew: TravisCrew: Otta Steve Sahines 808-960-2109 808-936-4383 [email protected] [email protected] Captain: Mark Schubert Crew: Bill Benbow Danny Dove, Crew: Carl Hudson, Shepard Chris 808-936-9515 Cyndee Hudson [email protected] 808-936-9515 [email protected] Maggie Joe Nasty Habits 47’Ohana Cabo Northern 49’ Lights CustomII 37’ Captain: Merritt 42’ Cris Craft Captain: David Unger Commander Captain: Mike DeRego Mat Bowman Crew: Crew: Mark Lantagne James David, 808-360-2097 Jimmy David [email protected] 808-325-7529 [email protected] Crew: Captain: Kai S. Sponsor a satellite tag. All proceeds will be used for Pacific blue marlin research. The race will run for 240 days. The Pacific blue marlin traveling the furthest will be declared the winner. The winner will receive a free team entry for up to 6 anglers in the 57th HIBT (Charter Boat and Guest fees not included). Last year’s winning Pacific Blue Marlin, sponsored by Chuck Wigzell, traveled an amazing 2,659 nautical miles in 180 days and surfaced in the vicinity of the Pitcairn Islands! This is the longest distance recorded for any fish tagged in the HIBT and the second longest distance recorded in IGMR history. Additionally, Chuck received a free entry to this year’s tournament courtesy of the HIBT. You may recall, the very first Great Marlin Race was launched during the 2009 HIBT. Through the continuing efforts of the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) and Stanford University, the IGFA Great Marlin Race has now expanded globally to locations such as Tahiti, Puerto Rico, South Africa, eastern and western Australia, Cabo San Lucas Mexico, Madeira Portugal, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Canary Islands and Morocco. Additional races are planned for Abaco Bahamas, American Samoa and Southern California, USA. Satellite tags sposors not only compete in the HIBT IGMR, but also with sponsors from other IGMR competitions. So not only could you win a free entry to the 57th HIBT, but if your marlin travels the farthest of any billfish tagged during an IGMR cycle (October through September), you could also be crowned the overall IGMR champion at the IGFA Auction & Banquet in Dania Beach, Florida. The overall IGMR winner receives airfare and admission to this prestigious event. Anglers will deploy Wildlife Computers MiniPAT tags programmed for 240 days. All HIBT anglers, teams or angler partnerships are eligible to sponsor tags for $4,500 each. Satellite tag purchases are tax deductible as a charitable contribution in the United States. Regulations may vary in other countries. The scientific data from previous HIBT Great Marlin Races has been nothing short of remarkable. Armed with this information, as well as data from other IGMR events, IGFA and Stanford University hope to provide valuable insight to fishery managers on the migratory behavior of these magnificent fish so as to help ensure their longterm survival. If you haven’t already participated in an IGFA Great Marlin Race, take a moment to visit the IGFA website at www.igmr.igfa.org. Once you’ve seen these results, I’m sure you’ll want to participate in this year’s Race. All tag sponsors will receive a special IGMR commemorative edition of the Sprocket trolling lure. You Could Be This Years Winner! Visit the Great Marlin Race website at igmr.igfa.org for results from 2012, 2013 and 2014 races. www.hibtfishing.com | 19 Mahalo to the Opening Ceremony Good Luck To All The Anglers and Tight Lines! In February, Kai Rizzuto, 16, boated the 1,058 blue while fishing on the charterboat Ihu Nui with Capt. McGrew Rice. The Rice family has fished in nearly every HIBT right back almost to the beginning. Indeed, McGrew was crew for his dad, Capt. Freddy Rice, back in 1986 when the Ihu Nui caught the first grander in HIBT history. And the name “Ihu Nui” has passed from boat to boat in the long line of Rice family boats starting with the little 16-footer Freddy and Sally fished aboard in their first time. The summer Kai turned 15, he crewed on the charterboat Tropical Sun during the 2013 HIBT. While helping Capt. Dennis Cintas that summer, Kai crewed for the South Africa Protea Club, the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club Eldorado Kiwis, the Laguna Niguel Billfish Club, the Old South Marlin Club East Coast, and the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club Striker teams. Kai is thought to be the youngest angler ever to catch a grander in Hawaii waters. Kai’s grandpa, Jim Rizzuto, was aboard Ihu Nui to cheer for his grandson and take pics. Jim is well known to HIBT participants from his years of writing about the event back into the 1960s. Jim has also served at times as an HIBT governor and press chief. Here is his account of the the historic catch. After 16-year-old Kai boated a 1,058-pound blue marlin in Kona on Ihu Nui in February, the story blew up the Internet and exploded on local, national and international media here and around the world. ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX, BBC and other major media players focused on the young boy from New York and the huge fish. Here is the behindthe-scenes look at the catch — the real story. The fishing stuff with all of the kinds of things you want to know to give you a better chance of catching a big marlin regardless of your age. It was February 18 at around 1:00 pm. That’s important to you folks who fixate on the moon and tides. Not only was it a new moon day but the fish hit at exactly halfway between moon rise and moon set. The tide was rising and halfway up so we were almost exactly midway between the two tide changes when the marlin broke the surface with the Koya Poi Dog lure in its mouth and startled us all with the scream of the reel. The day was calm and flat after a succession of gnarly days and before a new session of spotty weather to come. That tells you a bit about the rise and fall of the barometric pressure. OK. Stop for a second. Do things like moon, tide, barometric pressure and weather conditions really matter? Skippers dating back to Capt. Henry Chee (namesake of the HIBT Chee award) have always thought so. With Capt. McGrew Rice at the helm, crew Carlton Arai set out a spread of five trolling lures. The stinger lure was a blue Koya bullet wearing a flashaboo skirt and the long rigger a chrome jet. Both were rigged on 400-pound leader. The short rigger was a purple softhead and the long corner a black softhead. McGrew was one of the pioneers who worked with softhead prototypes when they originated here in the early 1970s and swears by them. The short corner lure (a green Koya Poi Dog with a red eye and blue vinyl skirt) got the strike. These were rigged with 530 Momoi “Marlin Hard” leader and tandem 10/0 hooks. During the course of the morning, the jet lures were continually being pestered by shortbill spearfish doing the “tickle and tease.” The presence of spearfish was a good sign that big fish were around because monster marlin gobble them like Slim Jims. So that’s where it stood at about 1:00 pm (we weren’t sure of the exact time) as Carlton, Kai, Ming Yuen-Schatt and I stayed cool in the air-conditioned cabin while Kai’s mom Reiko Rizzuto and McGrew gabbed on the bridge. Kai’s monster grabbed the lure, went airborne immediately and then stayed up on the surface throwing whitewater everywhere. Carlton called “Big Fish” immediately which sent everyone into big-fish mode. Get the lines in as fast as you can so the angler can get to work on the fish with Carlton barking orders to make sure everyone did their job. My job was to get photos because we could already see this was a fish to remember. The fish was clearly not big enough to beat the existing 130-pound-class record of 1,376 pounds so from then on the goal was to get the fish in a reasonable amount of time without breaking it off and to protect our teenage angler in the process and not worry about IGFA regulations. A grander in November took 9 hours to beat and we definitely did not want a marathon battle if we could avoid it. As for the safety factor, at 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds, Kai is a strong boy who can put a lot of heat on the line. He’s had a lot of experience as an angler and crew (the summer after he turned 15, he worked as a deckie on Tropical Sun) and knows how to put a bend in a 130 pound rod. If the line snapped with the rod flexed at maximum, the rebound could leave him looking for a new set of front teeth. After Carlton assessed how much heat Kai could put on the rod, he decided to increase the drag beyond the original setting. In a coordinated effort involving McGrew at the controls, Carlton clamped down on the spool with his left hand to imobilize it, pulled the drag lever back to release the drag, increased the preset, and then advanced the drag lever until Kai was floating above the seat. (Warning to HIBT participants. Don’t do this because it will disqualify your catch.) By this time the fish had stopped its wild surface antics and started diving. The advanced drag changed the fish’s mind. After just another ten minutes of straight up and down pull, the fish started coming up easily. I had my camera ready for the expected jump. But no. The fish floated to the surface belly up. It was done after not much more than a half hour. No chance now of a tag and a live release. Why the short fight? Good angler, great crew, superb guy at the helm controling the fight. That’s a start. The marlin made all the mistakes. It jumped repeatedly until exhausted. Some have suggested it had a heart attack. I couldn’t tell you whether it is even possible for a fish to have a heart attack. Others suggested the hook was in a killing spot — the gills or belly, perhaps. No. It was anchored in the center of the bottom of the mouth. As far as we are able to determine, Kai is the youngest angler ever to pull in a grander blue marlin on rod and reel. If we had done it IGFA, Kai would probably qualify for the junior men’s world record. None of that really matters much. The smiles on everyone’s face and the thousands of congratulatory messages reflect the way we, who were a part of it, feel. This was a catch for all ages — and definitely for the two -Jim Rizzuto guys aged 16 and 76. 2015 HIBT BOUTIQUE Find these at the boutique or order online at our website: www.hibtfishing.com Design 2 KONA MAP WITH FISHING GRID Khaki or White SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; 3XL: $28.00 Design 1 HI FLAG WITH MARLIN Black or White SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; 3XL: $28.00 Design 3 TRADITIONAL LOGO Cotton: White or Celadon; Dri-Tech: White or Blue SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; 3XL: $28.00 *Available in Cotton and Dri-Tech Fabric Design 3 TRADITIONAL LOGO (LONG SLEEVE) Cotton: White or Celadon; Dri-Tech: White or Heather Blue SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; 3XL: $28.00 *Available in Cotton and Dri-Tech Fabric Design 3 TRADITIONAL LOGO (MEN'S TANK) Cotton only: White or Celedon SM-XL: $25.00; 2XL: $26.00; 3XL: $27.00 Design 4 Tribal Side Print White Dri-Tech SM-XL: $35.00; 2XL: $36.00; 3XL: $37.00 Design 3 TRADITIONAL LOGO (Women's T) Cotton only: White or Celedon SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; Design 5 HI ISLAND MAP W/ MARLIN - TANK (DRI TECH FABRIC) WHITE only SM-XL: $35.00; 2XL $36.00; 3XL $37.00 Design 5 HI ISLAND MAP W/ MARLIN (DRI TECH FABRIC) STEEL BLUE only SM-XL: $35.00; 2XL $36.00; 3XL $37.00 24 | H.I.B.T. 2015 Design 5 HI ISLAND MAP W/ MARLIN - LONG SLEEVE (DRI TECH FABRIC) WHITE only SM-XL: $40.00; 2XL: $41.00; 3XL: 42.00 HIBT Beer Koozie $10.00 2015 HIBT BOUTIQUE Find these at the boutique or order online at our website: www.hibtfishing.com HIBT Beach Tote $60.00 Design 6 HIBT ARTSY PALM Heather Gray or Cobblestone SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; 3XL: $28.00 Design 7 HIBT DAWN COLORS Cactus or Lake SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; 3XL: $28.00 HIBT Canvas Tote $20.00 Design 8 HIBT Pullover Hoodie White or Dark Heather SM-XL: $50.00; 2XL: $51.00; 3XL: $52.00 Design 14 Hawn Mighty Marlin White, Light Steel and Light Blue SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00 Design 12 Old Hawaii Fishermen Sand, Heather Blue and Navy SM-XL: $26.00; 2XL: $27.00; 3XL: $28.00 Design 15 WAHINE BILLFISHER Turquoise, Azalea Pink or Black SM-XL: $29.00; 2XL: $30.00 Design 16 VERTICAL SCRIPT LADIES TANK Coral, Fushia, Dark Lapis & Purple Design 16 DIVIDED COLOR BILLFISH LADIES TEE Black, Tropical Blue, Lime & White www.hibtfishing.com | 25 HIBT AWARDS 2015 GOVERNOR’S TROPHY (Perpetual) To be awarded to the Team scoring the highest number of Billfish points in the tournament. As an enthusiastic supporter and Governor of the HIBA, he gave his time, talent, and prestige to the event and promoted Kona’s fishing throughout his lifetime. Following his death, the HIBA established an award in his name. The award is to be presented annually to the top scoring skipper based on a rating and ranking formula given by his teams on each of the five days fishing.
