To the student
Cool Time 3 is your third step into English.
You will learn English through different topics and situations where
the characters are teenagers like you!
Lessons include everyday dialogs, cool expressions, jokes, tongue
twisters, games and projects to make your English lessons dynamic
and communicative.
So Step on in!
To the teacher
Cool Time 3 is the third book in a three-level series for
teenage students of English written to help students learn English
through experience, reflection and practice, in situations related to
their interests and needs. The book is divided into five units. Each unit
is divided into two sections (A and B) and has 6 lessons.
Each lesson includes an activity that will give students
the opportunity to be exposed to the language
they are going to learn, experience it, construct
meaning, reflect and discover how it works.
Later, through different types of controlled
and freer practice activities, students will
have the chance to try the language and
use it for their own purposes.
On the following pages, in the
section called Learn about your
book, you will find detailed
information about the different
sections included in the book
and their features.
Your support and guidance
while students work on the
different sections of the book
will be very important in order
to help them make use of
their textbook.
We hope you enjoy working
with Cool Time 3 and that
it will help your students be
successful in learning English.

There are five units in your book. Each unit is divided into
two sections (a and b). At the beginning of each section
you will find a Title Page, which includes the purpose and
contents of that section, the language to be learned, and
examples of this language.
Read Charles' email to his friend Beth and put a check ( ) next to the pictures
that describe some of the things he did during his vacation.
1
Hi Beth,
I'm back from my summer vacation. My family and I went to
my aunt and uncle's house in the lakes. They moved there
three years ago and the place is beautiful. We went by car.
I did many things. I even climbed a mountain! My cousins and
I swam in the lake. We also went fishing. I caught just one
fish, but it was really big. I met some friends. We organized
a soccer championship, and guess what? Our team won the
championship, and I scored two goals in the final match.
I really enjoyed my vacations and now I'm ready to start
school again. Tell me about your vacation. What did you do?
Love,
Charles

Hi Charles,
Beth told me you went to your aunt's house last month. Did you have a good summer?
Guess what? I visited David last July. We had a great time! We went to many places and
did lots of things! First, we went to Table Mountain. It's fantastic! It looks like a table at
the top, completely flat. Then we traveled along the Cape Whale Route. We saw lots of
whales. I couldn't believe my eyes! After that, we went to Kruger National Park to see
wild animals. It's a big reserve and we rode in an open safari vehicle and saw elephants,
giraffes, hippos, and all kinds of animals!
Finally, we went back to Cape Town. You can't imagine how beautiful the waterfront is!

The Lessons
Each unit is divided into 6 lessons. Each
page in the lesson includes a variety of
activities which will help you learn
English in a dynamic, interesting, and
clear way.
Whenever a grammar structure is
presented, there is a Figure It Out
section wich helps you work out the
rules by yourself through a self-discovery
process. Some lessons also include
Cool Tips
boxes, which give you
additional help with grammar rules in a
clear way. The Cool Expressions
boxes give you the opportunity
to focus your attention on colloquial
expressions to include in your everyday
conversations. A
section is
also included at the end of every lesson.
It includes an oral activity to interact with
other classmates and practice the language
presented in that lesson in a natural way.
Next to some writing activities, there is
a portfolio icon
, which means that
you will be able to keep samples of your
written work during the year, in a special
place, to check your progress.
In some lessons there are some boxes
marked
to highlight the most
important functions you will learn in
your book.

At the end of all Show what you know sections you will find an activity called

familiarize yourself with its structure.
In a monolingual (in this case, English) dictionary you can learn the following:

In a bilingual (in this case, English-Spanish) dictionary you can learn:
