“Much prayer, much power! Little prayer, little
power! No prayer, no power!”
... What a wonderful ‘Fiesta De Las Flores’ last
weekend (7). It was great fun from start to finish,
and mighty to see so many come out and spend
time together. Yes!
... There are so many involved in its planning,
preparation, and success on the weekend! We truly
applaud and appreciate the great Fiesta Team, under the guidance of Mark and Theresa Coyle, that
brought it all together. Matt Williamson and our
Saint John facilities team, Consuelo and the Hispanic Community, Isaac Deken and the Youth Ministry, Dan Schuh, Jill Burke and our Saint John School
parents, Blane Adessa and the Boy Scouts, Pat Connors and the Knights of Columbus all leading the
way, together with our Altar Society, the Men’s Fellowship and Holy Name Society. Thank You!
... A mighty ‘thank you’ also to our generous sponsors: Brandt Beef, The Lost Abbey, Rancho Auto
Body, Discount Tire Stores, Stehly Farms Organics,
Captain Keno’s Restaurant, Anita’s Mexican Restaurant, Roberto’s Taco Shop, Rico Taco Shop, El Norte
Mexican Restaurant Carlsbad. Allies Party Rental
and Lucy de la Torre!
... And to our entertainers who gave so generously
of their time and talent, Bloom, Tower 7 and Neptune, Ann Heller and Fleetwood Max, Andy and the
Weis Guys, Dan Kasperick, the Ashley Jenks Band,
the fabulous Mariachis, and the ‘Ke Hulili O Kailani
Polynesian Dance Halua’.
... In the Grand Drawing, Anthony Paolucci won
our $5,000 first prize, Mark and Pat O’Donnell won
the $2,500 second prize, Lee Ann Howe got the
$1,000 third prize, while Larry Riehn won the $500
fourth prize. Congratulations!
... Our Early-Bird $200 winners were Donald
Jones, John Hawkins and The Moffett’s!
... Our Fiesta is a great fun event! It is a pity that
so so many of us do not avail of the opportunity to
come along and enjoy it! Next time! To all who
did, ‘Thank You’! ‘Twas mighty!
... Watch for a Financial Summary shortly. Funds
raised are to be used towards upgrading our church
parking lot lights to LED.
... Marian Ministries has bible and beads available
for us this Sunday (14), after morning Masses.
... Watch for the upcoming great Bible Study on
Mercy to be directed by Father Ben!
August 14, 2016
... Saint John welcomes back Fabrice Bizimana,
from Burundi, to encourage us to continue to lend
assistance to Julie Marner and our Burundi Friends
International, and their great endeavor in Burundi.
The need is greater than ever! Please use the special envelopes provided, and give generously this
coming weekend (21).
... Registration Forms for all of our Religious
Education classes and programs for 2016-2017,
including Sunday Preschool, are available in the
Parish Office, online and in the church. For more
info call Rel Ed at 760 436-0664. Register today.
... Our Saint John School Office is open, Monday
to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm. Give our children
the best, enroll them in Saint John School! For
more info call 760 944-8227.
... Our Saint John School children return to the
classroom on Thursday (25).
... Our Saint John School parents Eagle Group will
gather this Friday (19), at 9:00am, in the Hall, and
our New Parent Orientation Meeting will be on
Tuesday (23), at 5:00pm.
... If you are an adult and wish to learn more about
our Catholic faith, join Liz Beiner and our RCIA
team each Tuesday at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall.
... Our Saint Vincent De Paul meets this Tuesday
(16), at 6:30pm, and our Catholic Men’s Fellowship
meets this Wednesday (17) at 7:00pm.
... It is not too late to make a pledge to our Annual
Catholic Appeal which assists the extensive ministry of our Diocese.
... The Emperor Maurice (582-602) decreed that the
Assumption of Mary be celebrated throughout the
Empire. Pope Sergius (683-701) laid down a solemn procession for the feast. Pope Pius XII in 1950
proclaimed the dogma of the Assumption, not only
as a privilege for Mary, but as Pope Paul VI wrote
“as the destiny of all those whom Christ has made
his brothers and sisters.” Our celebration, too!
... The feast of the Assumption is this Monday
(15), with Mass at 8:00am. It is a holyday, but not
of obligation this year.
... Pierre Teilhard de Chardin wrote: “The day will
come when, after harnessing the ether, the winds, the
tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in
the history of the World, human beings will have discovered fire.”
... “Don't bunt! Aim out of the ballpark!”

Father Joseph with friends at Holy Spirit! From left, Bishop
McElroy, Father Henry Rodriguez (RIP) and Father Doan Van
Lai. Father Henry died suddenly on Monday (4). He served
as the Church liaison to many community groups and organizations, including the San Diego Police Department, where he
served as chaplain. He also served as chaplain at Mercy Hospital and hospice care. And he will be remembered for his spiritual outreach to the LGBT members in our community.

educar
a
nuestros hijos en la fe
y la oración. Lo leí
con interés ya que el
uso del altarcito tiene
una larga historia en
la Iglesia católica. En
casa de mis abuelos
paternos, en México,
había
un
bello
altarcito en forma de pirámide que contenía flores,
velas y figuras de Jesús, María y algunos santos.
Además de esto estaban también algunos
instrumentos de oración como el rosario, la Biblia y
algún otro libro de oración. También en casa de mi
abuela materna,
había un rinconcito sagrado.
Muchos latinos tenemos altarcitos familiares.
y familias.
