The first and original lava lamp designed by the founder
of Mathmos and inventor of lava lamps; Edward Craven
Walker. The Mathmos Astro was launched in 1963, it became
a symbol of the swinging 60s and has been in continuous
British production ever since.
Replacement parts for this pop design classic, including
bulbs, are available from Mathmos on an ongoing basis for
products bought today or vintage products purchased right
through from the 1960s.

The first lava lamp
The second lava lamp designed by the inventor of lava lamps
and founder of Mathmos, Edward Craven-Walker, in 1964. The
Astro baby has been manufactured by hand in Britain ever
since. This thinner, sleeker alternative to the original Astro has
a high shine polished base and cap.

The Telstar design is inspired by the space race fever that
gripped the 1960s.
Telstar legs are made with cast and polished zinc and each one
is hand polished. Each product is individually inspected and
tested to ensure that a Mathmos lava lamp is the best quality
in the world. Telstars bottles are hand filled in Mathmos’ British
factory.

Fireflow R1 is a small, retro metal lava
lamp inspired by the 40th anniversary
of the moon landings. Place a single
tea-light inside the rocket and in around
20 minutes Mathmos’ iconic lava
formula comes alive. Fireflow R1 can be
used for 3 hours at any one time; the
average burn time for one tea-light.

Bike Wheel Lights easily screw
directly on to your bike wheel
valves and create circles of light
when you cycle. The lights use
high quality LEDs with light/motion
sensors meaning that they will only
come on at night when you’re on
the move.
Bike Wheel Lights aid visibility
and therefore safety however they
should only be used in conjunction
with standard bicycle lights and

Create the ice by freezing in any
home freezer. Then assemble
Thaw, light the candle and watch
illuminated ice melt beautifully
back into the mould. Each time
you use Thaw the shape of the
ice, the way it melts and the way
it holds the candle light will be
different. Thaw takes about 3
hours to melt much the same time
as the life of a tea light.
