customize LMS TecWare Rev 3.6. This software is available on the following computer platforms: INTEL-compatible Windows 2000 or Windows XP Personal Computer; UNIX: o HP Workstation with HP-UX; o SGI Workstation with IRIX; o Sun Workstation with Solaris; o IBM Workstation with AIX; o INTEL x86-compatible Workstations with Linux; The software package contains the Windows version together with the UNIX versions. Installation Manual Page 6 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 1 Running the Installation Procedure 1.1 1.1.1 On Windows Installation directory Make sure you have permissions to install in the target directory. This directory defaults to C:\Program Files\LMS\TecWare, but may be changed to any path writeable by the current user. 1.1.2 Install LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 If the setup does not start automatically after inserting the CD-ROM into your drive, start Windows Explorer, go to your CD-ROM drive and run the program setup.exe that is located in the directory <CD>:\windows\ First, select the language for the installation: Then, specify the target directory for the installation: Installation Manual Page 7 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Followed by selecting the products to install. Choose Integration RS-Labsite or RS-Analysis only if TecWare is installed together with IST RS-Labsite. If you are not sure, it’s safe to leave the option unchecked. After the installation, the option “Ask configuration details” will try to create a initial configuration including the license server to use. Now, the files are copied into the installation directory. Next, the license server has to be specified. If the entry is left blank, the license behaviour defaults to read the file data/flexlm.dat like older TecWare versions. Installation Manual Page 8 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Additionally, a program group may be created. LMS TecWare 3.6 The shortcuts may be created for the current user or – requiring administrator permissions – for all users. To properly run TecWare, you have to install the Runtime Environment of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, if not already done. For your convenience, this may be done here by answering yes: Installation Manual Page 9 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 This finishes the installation process. As a last step, the user may have a look into the online release notes. 1.2 1.2.1 On Unix Installation directory Make sure you have permissions to install in the target directory. This directory defaults to /opt/lms/tecware, but may be changed to any path writeable by the current user. Installation Manual Page 10 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 1.2.2 Install LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 The software is delivered as a collection of compressed tar files, stored in several subdirectories on the CD-ROM. Besides, the CD contains a setup tool for an easy installation. Put CD in the CD-ROM drive and mount: HP-UX: su – /etc/ioscan –fnC disk This list contains the <cd_device> names of the CD drive. /usr/sbin/mount –rF cdfs /dev/dsk/<cd_device> /cdrom Linux, SGI & SUN: The CD is mounted automatically IBM: su /usr/sbin/mount –v cdrfs –r /dev/cd0 /cdrom Note: It’s not recommended to install the software with root privileges. Please check access permissions of installed files, especially when using a restrictive umask! The setup is started by: /cdrom/install.ksh Make sure, that your system does support a ksh shell. The install script will need some disk space in /tmp. If there is not enough disk space available, you may define the environment variable TEMP pointing to a directory providing more disk space. If there are problems with the install script, some verbose messages can be activated by providing an argument /cdrom/install.ksh debug First, the language for the installation can be selected. Installation Manual Page 11 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Then, the target directory for the installation is prompted: /opt/lms/tecware3.6 Now, the archive containing the installation is shown. This would enable a target installation of a different UNIX platform. The default shows the installation for the current platform. Installation Manual Page 12 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Select the file tw36.bz2 for the required platform from your TecWare CD-ROM. /cdrom/linux/tw36.bz2 First, the system specific files are copied to the target directory. After the system specific files, the system independend files are installed: Installation Manual Page 13 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 If a previous installation of LMS TecWare exists and some customized settings should be transferred, the previous installation directory may be specified here. Next, the license server has to be specified. If the entry is left blank, the license behaviour defaults to read the file data/flexlm.dat like older TecWare versions. Please refer to the section about Licensing for detailed information. If it’s the first installation, the LMS FALANCS databases should be installed. For an update, the existing databases should be used. Installation Manual Page 14 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Please decide, whether the examples should be installed. Some tutorials refer to this example data. This finishes the installation. Installation Manual Page 15 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 As a last step, the user may have a look into the release notes… and optionally start up the software: Installation Manual Page 16 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Unmount the CD-ROM drive HP-UX & IBM: /usr/sbin/umount /cdrom Linux, SGI & SUN: eject /cdrom At the end of the setup process you should open the release notes, where you will find some useful technical information about LMS TecWare and LMS FALANCS. Installation Manual Page 17 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 2 LMS TecWare Licensing This document deals with the most important things about FLEXlm licensing. It should contain enough information to start the LMS software. Most detailed information is available in the FLEXlm End Users Guide (./manual/flexlm.pdf). It is not possible to start the software without a valid license file! For each new revision of TecWare, a new license file has to requested from your local LMS office. For a new ServiceLevel, the license file of the corresponding revision can be re-used. When installing a new license file, you also should check for the latest versions of the FLEXlm server lmgrd(.exe) and vendor daemon LMS_INTL(.exe). These files can be found in the TecWare installation, directory flexlm/bin. 2.1 Types of FLEXlm License Files Different types of license files can be created for LMS FALANCS and LMS TecWare. Floating (concurrent) Licenses A floating license enables anyone on the network to use the software, up to the limit specified in the license file. This is the default kind of licenses (for TecWare/FALANCS) provided by LMS. A floating license requires the license manager daemon (lmgrd) and the vendor daemon (LMS_INTL) to be running on the license server. The daemons are counting the concurrent usage of the licenses. Node-locked Licenses A node-locked license enables an user to use the software on one specific machine. The license cannot be used on a different machine. A node-locked license requires the license manager daemon (lmgrd) and the vendor daemon (LMS_INTL) to be running on the specific machine. The daemons are counting the concurrent usage of the licenses on this specific machine. Value Pack Licenses A Value Pack license enables anyone on the network to use the whole software. Depending on the product, a certain amount of Tokens are used from the license server. In contrast to floating licenses, the user does not have to decide which program from the TecWare product line should be available when buying the software. Instead, the user may execute one expensive program or several cheaper programs. It only requires the amount of Tokens to be available for each program when using it. Installation Manual Page 18 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 2.2 The FLEXlm License File To create your final license file, LMS needs certain information about your license server. If you have not filled in the questionnaire "Software License File Request Form " (or didn't receive it) please collected the required system data and send it to LMS. The document can be found in the installation: ./relnotes/eng/LicenseRequestForm.pdf After having received the license file (e.g. LMS_INTL.lic), store it in any location on your license server. Recommendations: Separate license server If the license server is only intended to host the license manager software, you should create a new directory for FLEXlm software. Store the license file there. Then copy the files from the ../flexlm/bin/ directory (of the LMS TecWare installation) to this license manager directory on your server. License server and LMS software on the same computer In a typical single-user environment, you should copy the license file to the ../custom/ sub-directory of the LMS TecWare installation, which should have been created during the setup procedure. Possibly, the final license file has to be customized! Before starting the license manager software, check the header of your license file using a conventional text editor: The host name (here lmsflex1) of the license server must be entered on the second position in the first row of the file, if it is not entered there yet: SERVER lmsflex1 23456789 There might be an additional number in the SERVER line. This is a tcp-port used by the license manager software. If no port is specified the used default is 27000. SERVER lmsflex1 23456789 1234 In case of doubt, contact your system administrator. Especially, when running separate FLEXlm license managers for different software, you will need to specify port numbers explicitly in the license files. Afterwards, the license manager software must be started (unless you are using a so called "demo code"). The FLEXlm license manager must be up in order to run the software! Installation Manual Page 19 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 2.3 Starting the license manager 2.3.1 UNIX Any user can start the license manager software (lmgrd). It's recommended to start the license manager as a non-privileged user, i.e. do not start lmgrd as root. To start lmgrd, use the following command: lmgrd -c LMS_INTL.lic -l flexlm.log where lmgrd is the binary file from the ../flexlm/bin directory, LMS_INTL.lic is the license file (use the complete path, if necessary), and flexlm.log is any file name to the debug log file. For detailed information, please refer to the FLEXlm End Users Guide, available in the installation ./manual/flexlm.pdf. 2.3.2 Windows 2000/XP On Windows, the license manager can easily be controlled by a separate FLEXlm tool 'LMTOOLS'. This is located in the flexlm\bin\ directory of the LMS TecWare installation. If you have created the LMS TecWare group in your start menu during the installation process, you will also find an entry for the license management among the "Tools". This tool can be used to start or stop the license manager. Moreover, you can configure the server to start automatically at power-up. Using the 'Config Services' tab, you have to specify the storing location of some files: Installation Manual Page 20 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 • lmgrd.exe Stored in the flexlm\bin\ sub-directory of the LMS TecWare installation. (May be copied to any other directory, but together with LMS_INTL.exe.) • License File Stored in any directory on the license server, or e.g. in the custom sub-directory of the LMS TecWare installation. • Debug Log File Choose any directory and filename you would like to use. Besides, you will find two checkboxes to start the license manger at power up, and register it as a service (must be administrator!). In the 'Start/Stop/Reread' tab you can start or stop the license server. The license server's status can be checked using the 'Server Status' tab. 2.4 License configuration of the LMS software (client) After the license manager software has been started, the LMS TecWare/FALANCS software needs to know which license server to connect to. There are several possibilities to configure the software with respect to licensing issues. The most important setups are: • Specify the license server During the installation, you may enter your license server in a "port@host" notation. Your input is stored in the ../custom/tecware.ini file. E.g. if the license server is "lmsflex1" and no explicit port is used, the corresponding section in the ../custom/tecware.ini file will be: [Runtime] LicFile=@lmsflex1 Installation Manual Page 21 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 • Specify a license file If you skip the specification of a license server during the setup, the software expects a license file ../data/flexlm.dat in the installation directory. In this case, the setup does not write the section mentioned above to the ../custom/tecware.ini, but the default setting in the ../data/tecware.ini becomes active: [Runtime] LicFile=$TECWAREHOME/data/flexlm.dat In the same way, it is possible to specify another license file in (any instance of) the tecware.ini file. If non of these configurations meet your local requirements, please have look into the FLEXlm End Users Guide (./manual/flexlm.pdf), or contact your responsible LMS CAE support. 2.5 Check the license status Concerning the license server status, there are two useful tools available from the LMS TecWare Desktop. The "License Information" tool provides information about available license features and features that are currently in use by other users. The "System Information" can list detailed information on the license server status, especially useful in case of problems while connecting to the license server. For more information on installing and configuring a FlexLM license server, see the online release notes provided in Installation Manual Page 22 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Installation Manual Page 23 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 3 Running LMS TecWare 3.1 Windows Double-click on the LMS TecWare Desktop Short-cut on the Windows Desktop or go to Start Programs LMS TecWare LMS TecWare Desktop. In addition, data set files of the LMS TecWare Desktop can be selected in the Windows-Explorer. A double click will launch the TecWare Desktop and load the data set. 3.2 UNIX LMS TecWare is started by typing : /opt/lms/tecware3.6/tecware desktop If applicable, enter a central alias or add the line alias tecware /opt/lms/tecware3.6/tecware to the .cshrc file of the user. (provided that LMS TecWare has been installed to /opt/lms/tecware3.6/ and the Installation Manual Page 24 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 login shell of the user is csh) Alternatively, modify the global path definition or add setenv PATH ${PATH}:/opt/lms/tecware3.6 to the .cshrc file of the user. Then call the respective components with the command tecware <component>, i.e. run the TecWare Desktop (part of the LMS TecWare Kernel) with the command tecware desktop, run LMS FALANCS with tecware falancs. If you call tecware without specifying parameters, a help file appears which explains how to use the procedure: $ tecware NAME tecware - script to start LMS TecWare tools SYNOPSIS tecware tool [+log [logfile]] OPTIONS tool <- starts LMS TecWare tool setup install_license install_demo install_pdb desktop timeedit conform faticount reporting batch rainedit combitrack falancs falbatch, falgws2i, ts2bdf ans2tsi, elem2tsi, pat2tsi, pch2tsif, unv2tsi fcvsnc3, fcvmat3, fcvsol2 hist_conv rf_conv dia2ub sysinfo, license, filelist flexlm_start, flexlm_stop terminal (LMS TecWare initialized terminal) manual [tecware|timeedit|falancs|desktop] help [tecware|timeedit|falancs|desktop] releasenotes +log logfile 3.2.1 run with logfile name of the logfile (default: /dev/tty) Examples: Starting LMS TecWare Desktop: $ tecware desktop Starting LMS FALANCS: Installation Manual Page 25 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 $ tecware falancs Using ConForm from the command line: $ tecware conform -f if/input.erg if/output.erg 3.3 License Initialization You should open the TecWare INI Editor. Make sure, that TecWare uses all File Interfaces, that are intended to be used with TecWare. By default, only the file interfaces included in the TecWare Kernel are enabled. Some customer specific file interfaces have to be activated manually, e.g. MDF, IBMI2, PIAS. If you don't use customer specific interfaces, you can ignore this section. Open the INI File Editor and change the setting of the key “TryToGetLicUB” to “no”: Save the settings using FileSave in custom path. This will deactivate the setting for all users of this installation. Installation Manual Page 26 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 4 Installation Prerequisites 4.1 4.1.1 UNIX Required disk space The following table contains the approximately required disk space for a complete installation of LMS TecWare and LMS FALANCS including the set of example data (about 150 MB). Version (at least) Operating System Disk space IBM AIX 5.3 880 MB HP-UX B.11.0 A.C.E & B.11.11 880 MB Red Hat Enterprise 3.0/4.0 (32/64bit) SuSE Linux 9.1 - 10.3 (32/64bit) 820 MB 6.5.28m 880 MB 8 (SunOS 5.8) 915 MB Linux (x86) SGI IRIX Sun Solaris Note: Disk space may slightly change with any new version. 4.1.2 Required settings on Linux systems X-Server Authentification By default, many new Linux systems come with a X-Server configuration, which do not allow any connection to the X-Server via TCP. For TecWare and FALANCS, you have to change this setting. Since this option also restricts opening programs from remote machines, it mainly occurs on single Linux workstations. Installation Manual Page 27 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 If you are using xdm, please check the file Xservers in either /usr/X11/lib/X11/xdm or /etc/X11/xdm. If this file is not in one of these directories, check your distribution for the location of the file. The lines like :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp -br vt7 must not contain the option "-nolisten tcp", so just remove them, e.g.: :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -br vt7 Otherwise calling e.g. TimeEdit from the Desktop or calling calculations inside FALANCS will not work properly. If you are using GNOME and gdm, the required setting is located in the file /usr/X11/gdm/gdm.conf in section [security]: DisallowTCP=false This setting can also be changed by using the program gdmsetup. The option “Deny TCP connections…” has to be disabled: In all cases, the X-Server has to be re-started after changing this setting. This includes the gdm/xdm process. Depending on the Linux distribution, a reboot may be necessary. To test the setting, the following can be executed: csh setenv DISPLAY `uname –n`:0.0 xclock If there is still an error when opening xclock, the setting is not active, yet. Installation Manual Page 28 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Motif/Lesstif TecWare uses Motif for several GUI parts. On Linux system using Xorg as XServer (e.g. on newer debian system) the following environment variable needs to be set: export XKEYSYMDB=/usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB Otherwise, text input is not possible in several windows. 4.1.3 Requirements for Sun Solaris Required patch on Sun Solaris 8 systems Using the operating system Sun Solaris 8, the following patch must have been installed: /usr/lib/libm.so.1: RELEASE VERSION SunOS 5.8 Patch 111721-04 04/16/2003 X-Server using TrueColor ProcessBuilder needs the X-Server to run in TrueColor mode. Please follow the instructions below to activate this option: • right-click on the Windows desktop background and choose "Properties" • click on tab card "Settings" and choose the number of colors to at least 16bit or better Installation Manual Page 34 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 5 Hints and useful features 5.1 Language of the GUI You can switch between English and German language for the user interface. Usually, English is the default language within LMS TecWare and LMS FALANCS. Modifications should be made in >data/tecware.ini or in custom/tecware.ini in the section [intl]. The setting for the English language is the following: [intl] sLanguage=eng The setting for German is: [intl] sLanguage=deu Of course, any user can set his desired language by modifying the private ~/tecware/tecware.ini. 5.2 Advantages of a CUSTOM directory The software uses three directories, where INI files may be stored: 1. the subdirectory data/ in the installation directory, 2. the subdirectory custom/ in the installation directory, 3. your "personal" TecWare directory ~/tecware/ or $HOME/tecware/ (on UNIX) and %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%/tecware/ (on a PC). All matching INI-files in those directories were merged, i.e. a setting in custom/tecware.ini will have higher priority than the corresponding setting in data/tecware.ini, but will be overwritten by settings in ~/tecware/tecware.ini. Therefore, you can customize LMS TecWare / LMS FALANCS fully through changes in the custom/ directory, without changing the central data/tecware.ini. Of course, you can use the latter one as a template. If you install an update (patch) of the software, the central data/ directory may be overwritten, but your local changes in the custom/ directory will be kept as well as your private modifications in ~/tecware/. Hence, your settings are retained even after the update. Installation Manual Page 35 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 5.3 Defining the used Printers [UNIX] In order to install a new printer, the file custom/tecware.ini (or one of the other tecware.ini files) must contain a section which connects the printer name with the queue queue. The identifiers name and queue can be chosen by the user. [Printer name] Connection=queue Moreover, the queue queue must be defined more in detail, which is made in a separate section. Here the global printer name sysname is used. You can select one of the following formats: • • • • • • • • • • • POSTSCRIPT POSTSCRIPT b/w HPGL HPGL b/w LASERJET DESKJET DESKJET b/w PAINTJET 16 Colors PAINTJET 8 Colors LJ250 16 Colors LJ250 8 Colors As shown in the example below, you can also use several commands to print the print file %PRTFILE% and to delete it afterwards. [PrintConnection queue] Format=POSTSCRIPT Command1=/bin/lp -dsysname -c -n%COPIES% %PRTFILE% Command2=/bin/rm -f %PRTFILE% 5.4 Default Directories Default directories are directories which you can find via a pop text in the file selection windows. The purpose is to make it easier to navigate through the file system. All frequently used directories can easily be found in the file selection, if their have been configured as a default directory. The list of default directories can be entered in the following section in (any of) the tecware.ini file(s): [DataDirectories] <name1>=<directory1> <name2>=<directory2> Installation Manual Page 36 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 In addition, your personal default directories can be modified interactively! Use the corresponding buttons in the file selection GUI: Add to default directories Edit default directories 5.5 ASCII Import/Export In the Edit menu of a Desktop data set, ASCII Import and Export features are available. The Export tool can store a number of (binary) files in an ASCII format. This can be useful for further analyses in third party software. The (ASCII) Import tool can read those files back into TecWare. But, it can also import binary data files with automatic format detection. So, the Import tool could be used as a powerful replacement of the default file selection. 5.6 FALANCS: Data base directory LMS FALANCS data base directories should be provided with global write permissions. The individual permissions (editable: yes/no) can be set using the FALANCS "Database Configuration Tool". In the contrib/ directory, you find a compressed example data base, containing some cyclic material data, SN curves, solution parameters, and method parameters. It can either be installed during the setup, or may be extracted later using (on UNIX): zcat contrib/pdb.tar.Z | tar xfv - On Windows, the example database in the contrib/ directory, is a self-extracting ZIP file. Attention: If you are updating your FALANCS version, please check if you already have your own data base containing data you want to keep. 5.7 FALANCS FEM: ANSYS toolbar The directory contrib/ansys/ contains some ANSYS macros and related files. Please follow the instructions in the readme.txt/ document to make a useful add-on to the ANSYS toolbar available. The macros will allow an easy access to the durability results of LMS FALANCS while using ANSYS for post-processing. Note: The computed damages replace the stress tensor in the first load case of the Installation Manual Page 37 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 ANSYS result file (*.rst). So, it is highly recommended to have a dummy load case in the *.rst files processed by FALANCS. 5.8 Print Preview for texts and graphics (UNIX) Among the default printers on UNIX systems you find the "printers" GraphicPreView and TextPreView. These printers can be used to preview the page layout of your results on the screen. The GraphicPreView is displayed using GhostScript/GhostView. The TextPreView uses a text editor which can be defined by setting the environment variable $EDITOR (UNIX). By default a customary editor of your operating system will be started. 5.9 LMS TecWare terminal window You can start the TecWare script with the tool terminal to open a new terminal window. Alternatively, a corresponding button is available in the TecWare Desktop. That window is initalized with several TecWare settings and is used for some FALANCS tools. Please note that your login script (i.e. .cshrc when using the CShell) is executed after the TecWare initialization. Hence, some relevant settings (e.g. the Library-Path) could be overwritten! 5.10 License Information tool The License Information tool (available in the main window of the LMS TecWare Dektop) provides information about all (available and used) license keys. If a certain tool cannot be started you may check whether the corresponding licenses are locked by other users. Installation Manual Page 38 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 6 Troubleshooting Please find detailed information about the different tools in the online Release Notes of the corresponding tool. 6.1 Licensing Licensing problems may occur: when the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE is set. In that case, remove it. when making use of a FlexLM license server, of version lower than 9.5. Make sure the version of the FlexLM software and the LMS_INTL daemon are at least 9.5. when using one FlexLM license server to serve not only TecWare licenses but also other licenses. If you are experiencing problems, please try to set up a separate license server for the TecWare product. if you find the following key in the Registry of your PC HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager "LMS_INTL_LICENSE_FILE"=... just remove the entry "LMS_INTL_LICENSE_FILE". It is a key that has been added by older versions of LMS TecWare. The entry is not necessary and can cause problems if the information in that key is not valid (anymore). 6.2 Installing multiple versions of LMS TecWare on the same computer Multiple versions of LMS TecWare may be installed in different directories on the same machine. There is no problem when using those versions in parallel. However, the required license servers have to be up and running. Different versions of LMS TecWare may use different versions of FLEXlm. 6.3 Using "My Documents" as TecWare Project Directory (Windows XP) By default, the directory "My Documents" is write protected. That's why the LMS TecWare Desktop refuses to use this directory as "Project Directory". To overcome this restriction, the write protection flag must be removed, e.g. by applying the following command in a command prompt window: Installation Manual Page 39 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 attrib -r "My Documents" 6.4 Conflict with installed file libmmd.dll libmmd.dll ist the Math Library installed by the Intel Fortran Compiler. TecWare uses version 9 of the compiler and ships the necessary DLLs in the lib-directory of the TecWare installation. If an incompatible version of this file is already installed in the Windows system directory, problems may occur (typically, an error message reports a missing entry point in the DLL and the program exits). This could happen if older or newer versions of the Intel Compiler are installed. Workaround: replace the file in the Windows system directory with the file libmmd.dll from TecWare's lib directory (but this may effect other programs) or copy the TecWare libmmd.dll to all bin directories of the TecWare installation (e.g. lifestat\bin, processbuilder\bin, …). This should be addressed by your System Administrator. 6.5 Windows XP - Service Pack 2 with active Firewall While working with LMS TecWare, several modules (TimeEdit, FatiCount, ...) are invoked via the "TecWare-Bus" and open a TCP/IP connection. The number of connections is limited by the Windows-Firewall (since Service Pack 2), which gives a corresponding warning when a program opens a TCP/IP connection for the first time. The warning can be responded by clicking either "Keep Blocking" or "Unblock". In both cases, LMS TecWare is working, and no further warnings will pop-up for this module. The options "Keep Blocking" and "Unblock" are only available for administrators. A non-privileged user may activate the option "For this program, don't show this message again" in the alert window and is then also able to continue working without warnings. 6.6 Import DIAdem 9 files The current release of LMS TecWare cannot import files written with DIAdem 9 (or newer) yet. Users of "NI DIAdem 9.x" have to export the desired files using the DIAdem 8 format, in order to process them in TecWare. 6.7 Problems with Exceed (and Motif-2) When running the software on a UNIX workstation via Exceed (i.e. display on a PC), it may happen that some GUI elements are not displayed correctly. The most Installation Manual Page 40 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 frequent effect is that a selection menu appears behind the main window. The problem is caused by a bug in Exceed 6.2 (and 7.1) and can be solved by a patches (provided by "Hummingbird Communications Ltd."). The patches to version 6.2.0.43 (and 7.1.0.7) are also available in the "contrib" directory. You simply have to replace the "exceed.exe" file. 6.8 Word 2000 and Norton AntiVirus If Norton AntiVirus 2000, 2001, or 2002 is used on the machine the automatation of Word 2000 may not work. For reference and a workaround see Microsoft Knowledge Base: Q243579 See also: Q246018 6.9 '@' character in license path If the path to the license file contains the '@' character, the software will not get any valid license key. The reason for this problem is, that FlexLM does not allow any '@' in the path. It is possible to specify a license as <port>@<host> or @<host>, but a path containing '@' is not handled correctly. Recommended workaround: Create a softlink to the license file (without '@') and use the following settings in the 'tecware.ini', e.g.: [Runtime] LicFile=/usr/local/data/flexlm.dat LicDoNotSearch=1 Where 'flexlm.dat' is a symbolic link to the (physical) 'flexlm.dat' file located in an "@path". 6.10 flexlm.dat on clients If using a license file (on the client) that only contains the 'SERVER' line and the statement 'USE_SERVER', it is absolutely necessary to terminate this line by 'return'. Installation Manual Page 41 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 Otherwise the command USE_SERVER will not be recognized and the software will not work, because it cannot connect to the license server. 6.11 Bad HostID on Windows 2000 If a PC (running Windows 2000) is disconnected from the network, the physical address of the ethernet card will come up as zeros. Running "lmhostid" will return "000000000000" and the FLEXlm license server cannot be started. To solve this problem, you need to disable the Media Sense feature of Windows 2000 as described here (taken from Microsoft's web page). Installation Manual Page 42 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 6.12 TDF units in LMS TecWare and LMS CADA-X (HP-UX & Windows) In the installation of LMS TecWare, there is a default units file for reading TDF databases ($TECWAREHOME/data/units). This file is correct when using the default units available in LMS CADA-X. If you have changed the table of units it is necessary to create a new file to get the correct units. E.g. in TimeEdit you get MPa but the TDF have data in hbar, in this case the unit label is not correct, it does not fit (correct) values. In LMS CADA-X you can create a new units file to be used by LMS Tecware: Start LMS CADA-X Open the command mode Type: edit units File --> Export --> UPA File ... Finally, add to this new file the header (i.e. first 15 lines) of the default file ($TECWAREHOME/data/units) and replace the old units file. 6.13 Bad performance working with ASCII files Generally, working with ASCII files is rather slow. Nevertheless, the performance is strongly depending on two entries in ASCII file header. If COLUMNWIDTH (in German: SPALTENBREITE) or COLUMNOFFSET (SPALTENOFFSET) are set, the file access is very Installation Manual Page 43 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 slow. These entries are not necessary, if there are neither character-channels nor invalid values nor different time information in your data. In the rather common case, i.e. when you have channels with time histories of the same length and rate, you should delete those two entries. Unfortunately, the LMS TecWare ASCII-Interface always adds both of the keywords when an ASCII file is written. Hence, you should delete the entries unless they are really needed. 6.14 Upgrades and updates of the installation It is highly recommended to install a new release or service level into a new (empty) directory! If the upgrade is done by overwriting an older release the resulting installation may be faulty. 6.15 Changing the license file The license manager may not work correctly after the license file flexlm.dat has been replaced (or modified). After changing the license file you should restart the license manager. (See the section about licensing.) 6.16 TEX configuration for LMS TecWare Reporting (AutoAnalyze) On UNIX operating systems, the LMS TecWare Reporting tool (the former "AutoAnalyze") uses the typesetting system TeX for producing its output. The memory usage of the TeX system can be configured in several ways. Since an output of LMS TecWare Reporting can become very complex it seems to be necessary to reserve a lot of memory for TeX. But on some HP-UX 10.x workstations we had problems with very large scaled configurations of TeX. Hence, you will find a more conservatively configured TeX installation with LMS TecWare. With a small number of input channels (depending on the used layout), LMS TecWare Reporting should work fine. If you want LMS TecWare Reporting to run with a large number of channels, you may try to reconfigure TeX. The important file is $TECWAREHOME/tex/TeTeX/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf Read the comments and try to increase the most important memory entries: % Part 3; Array and other sizes for TeX (and Metafont and MetaPost). : main_memory = 1000000 % words of memory available; also applies to mf&mp hash_extra = 60000 pool_size = 500000 string_vacancies = 200000 max_strings = 150000 % max number of strings pool_free = 50000 % min pool space left after loading .fmt : Installation Manual Page 44 LMS TecWare Rev 3.6 After modifying the texmf.cnf file, you have to redump the TeX format files. Open a LMS TecWare initialized terminal window (tecware xterm), and enter the command: texconfig init 6.17 No square brackets in names of formulas The text you use for naming a formula (stored in formula.ini) must not contain any square bracket. 6.18 Using RainView with several files When you start RainView with several files (e.g. from the LMS TecWare Desktop) you can switch to the next/previous Rainflow-Matrix with the arrow-buttons. Presently, you can only switch through the matrixes (i.e. the channels) of a single file; it is not possible to switch from a Rainflow-Matrix of one file to a matrix of another file. You have to use the menu "File" --> "List of Channels" to select a different file. Installation Manual Page 45
