In%early%November,%nearly%300%students%from%
our% 14Mcounty% region% audiConed% for% about%
100% spots% in% the% KMEA% District% 8% Honors%
Band.% % The% students% were% required% to% learn%
some% difficult% music,% memorize% a% porCon% of%
the% audiCon,% and% even% play% a% short% excerpt%
at%sight!%Four%Louisa%Middle%School%students%
earned% the% privilege% of% parCcipaCng%
alongside% 7% other% students% from% other%
Lawrence% County% Schools.% % The% parCcipants%
traveled% to% Morehead% State% University’s%
campus% and% learned% with% an% expert% music%
educator%for%two%days,%following%which%they%
presented%a%concert%to%their%parents%and%the%
community.%%

the%students%pracCce%in%interpreCng%a%prompt%and%managing%their%Cme%as%they%write%a%response.%%The%
next%step%is%comparing%their%responses%with%a%wriCng%checklist%and%being%able%to%view%proficient%
models%in%the%classroom.%
%%%%%The&next&scrimmage&is&scheduled&for&March&8th%with%the%final%wriCng%opportunity%taking%place%in%
April.%%These%last%two%responses%will%be%taken%back%to%the%classroom,%%compared%to%a%checklist,%and%be%
rewriden%to%proficiency.%%%
%%%%%These%scrimmages%were%specially%designed%to%increase%not%only%students'%skills,%but%also%their%
confidence%as%they%prepare%for%spring%tesCng.%%With%four%scrimmages%under%their%belts,%we%are%
expecCng%great%results%from%our%students%at%LMS.%

The%Youth%Services%Center%is%here%for%you%and%your%
children.%Our%goal%is%to%help%remove%barriers%that%
interfere%with%student’s%success%in%school.%Our%
program%is%designed%to%enhance%students’%abiliCes%to%
succeed%in%life%and%grow%into%healthy%and%producCve%
adults.%The%following%are%the%programs%and%services%
