USE CASE #1: LAUNCH THE ELITE RETAILER PROGRAM
The Need:
|
New Product Launch: TEMPUR-Simplicity
– How do you get 8,000 retail employees across the country trained on new
product knowledge in a cost efficient and time efficient manner?
The Solution:
|
Partner with a best in class content vendor to create innovative product
training eBooks and virtual store room.
|
Implement SuccessFactors Learning to assign, manage and track retailer
learning.
ELITE RETAILER PROGRAM: LMS DESIGN

ELITE RETAILER PROGRAM: LMS DESIGN
The “Tempur-Pedic 101:
Certification” is assigned by
the background process
and assigned items can be
accessed on the Learning
Plan.
The order that the learner
completes each item is
forced by prerequisite
relationships.
Items are ordered with
clearly marked due dates
and reminder notifications
are driven off of these
dates.
ELITE RETAILER PROGRAM: LMS DESIGN
Tempur-Pedic leveraged the
AICC wrapper tool to track
end users acceptance of
two legal/compliance
documents.
The AICC wrapper puts a
customizable
acknowledgement
statement at the bottom of
any word or PDF document
hosted on a content server.
Users can review the policy
document and get marked
complete in the LMS by
clicking on the “I Accept”
button in this example.

ELITE RETAILER PROGRAM: LMS DESIGN
After the Retail Associate
has completed the
necessary legal documents,
they can launch the first
eBook.
eBooks can always be
reviewed after completion
through the completed work
pod on the LMS home
page.
Tempur-Pedic has
completed the roll out of a
total of 9 custom designed
eBooks as well as a very
innovative virtual store

USE CASE #2: CONSOLIDATING LEARNING FOR
INTERNAL EMPLOYEES
The Need:
|
To create standardization and consistency in the training programs
throughout the organization
|
To gain the ability to track and easily report on course completions and
outstanding learning
The Solution:
|
Leverage custom easy links to provide access to
internal Wiki pages right on the home page of
the LMS.
|
Partner with Skillsoft to set up existing licensed
courses to be accessed via SF Learning
therefore consolidating another place
employees go for learning.
CONSOLIDATE INTERNAL LEARNING: LMS DESIGN
Quick Win!
Tempur-Pedic took advantage of 1 of
the possible 10 custom easy links to
create a direct link to an existing
database of knowledge called the
“Tempur-Wiki”
Future Vision!
Partnered with iContent to host future
custom eLearning and static learning
content. Will be working to review and
migrate current learning on the
Tempur-Wiki to iContent. Learning will
then be assignable and trackable!

CONSOLIDATE INTERNAL LEARNING: LMS DESIGN
Consolidation!
Currently in the process of setting up
approximately 350 courses licensed
through Skillsoft via an “Item
Connector”.
SF Learning “points” out to the
Skillsoft courses which reside on the
Skillsoft content server making a
seamless experience for the learning.
Once complete, this will eliminate the
need to go to the existing SkillPort
portal as employees can access the
same learning plus the other learning
efforts in one location.
IMPLEMENTATION & ROLL OUT: BEST PRACTICES
|
#1: Phase the Roll Out
–
Define an initial learning initiative given the time and resources available
for implementation.
–
Start small and gain administration experience and feedback from the
organization before doing a large initiative.
–
Build in time to solicit, consolidate, analyze and implement feedback from
the first initiative before a larger launch
–
Map out different “phases” with larger initiatives in each phase. This will
help project teams not feel overwhelmed with the tasks at hand.

IMPLEMENTATION & ROLL OUT: BEST PRACTICES
|
#2 Define and Plan for System Administration Resources
–
Secure internal administration resources to own the administration of the
LMS.
–
Question: Do you need different administrators to own different aspects of
the system?
–
Plan for ample training and ramp up time! The working smarter
administration training during implementation is approximately 28 hours
total.
- Create admin processes, checklists, “rules” (ex. Naming conventions, testing
requirements etc.) , and ownership of specific responsibilities or
“communities”
IMPLEMENTATION & ROLL OUT: BEST PRACTICES
|
#3 Engage an IT Resource at the Beginning of Implementation
|
Some aspects of the LMS are fairly technical. Representatives from IT can
be very helpful/necessary in the following areas:
–
Completing an “IT Checklist”:
•
•
•
•
Setting the LMS as a trusted site
Whitelisting the LMS notifications
Reviewing LMS software requirements
Troubleshooting during testing & roll out
–
Tailoring the format of notifications
–
Assisting with an in house content server (if applicable)

IMPLEMENTATION & ROLL OUT: BEST PRACTICES
|
#4 Honor Your Naming Conventions
–
Naming conventions make the LMS friendly for searching and reporting.
–
Work with your consultant to establish a good naming convention for
things like items, curricula, etc.
–
Make a plan within the administration team to keep that naming
convention consistent in the future.
IMPLEMENTATION & ROLL OUT: BEST PRACTICES
|
#5 Plan Ahead with eLearning Content
–
Partner with iContent to host and manage your eLearning.
–
If you are getting custom content built by a vendor, plan on launching the
content at least a week or two weeks after the final versions are scheduled
to be delivered.
–
If you do choose to host content on an internal content server, we highly
recommend hosting only AICC formatted content. AICC is less complex
from a technical perspective to set up and run compared to SCORM.
–
Have a good balance between required and elective learning in the catalog
to help buy-in and adoption.

IMPLEMENTATION & ROLL OUT: BEST PRACTICES
|
#6 Create a Change Management Plan
–
Start building awareness early
–
Marketing, Communication and Training
–
What’s in it for me?
–
Keep it fun and positive!
IMPLEMENTATION & ROLL OUT: BEST PRACTICES
|
#7 Test, Test and Re-test!
–
Build in time for testing in your project timeline.
–
Be cautious of the amount of test data put into a Stage LMS prior to
migrating over to Production.
–
Put a naming convention in your test data so it is easily searchable. i.e.
Test_User1, Test_User2
–
Once the migration to Production has occurred, be sure to leverage the
Staging LMS as a playground for your own administrative learning.
