Honorine Jobert is hardy to Zone 4 and produces 2 - 3 inch pure white flowers with clusters of bright yellow stamens in the center of each blossoms that last for several weeks. Photos courtesy of Walter’s Gardens, Inc. 2016 YEAR OF THE ALLIUM Most allium flowers have a long, leafless stalk topped with a globe-like bloom. They are ideal companions for ornamental grasses and other low maintenance perennials. Alliums are on the list of plants deer tend to avoid. In the garden, the plants are odorless, but step on them or chew on them and the cell walls break, releasing volatile, sulfurbased chemical compounds that have a pungent odor and bitter taste. Photo courtesy of Walter’s Gardens, Inc. And, though the foliage repels, the flowers are filled with sweet nectar that’s highly attractive to honeybees, bumblebees and other pollinators. 2016 YEAR OF THE DELPHINIUM Photo courtesy of Ball Horticultural Company. Delphinium is a perennial favorite as the tall spikes of blue flowers in the background of a stately English or cottage garden. Many of the flowers have white or black centers known as “bees.” ACHILLEA ‘NEW VINTAGE VIOLET’ YARROW Hardiness Zone: 4a - 9b Blooming Season: Late Spring, Summer Plant Habit: Upright Height: 12 - 14" Width: 10 - 12" Exposure: Sun Photo courtesy of Ball Horticultural Company.
