4th Dominican Award in
Memory of Michael Cunniff
A Leader in Every Walk of Life
Friends and colleagues
described Michael
Cunniff, Class of 1962,
as a talented and likeable
manager, who combined
an Irish humor with dedication to customer service
during a 42-year career that
included high-level positions in Hennepin County government. He was
last the recorder/registrar of titles, and his innovative approach to problem solving was a boon for
the county and the real estate community. Mike
had a great dedication to Catholic education and
served on advisory boards to both Annunciation
School and Academy of Holy Angels. He was a
mentor to many and a beloved family man. He
died of natural causes on November 29, 2011 and
is survived by his wife Patty, Class of 1961, as well
as his mom Mary Jane, daughters Michele Faherty
‘87 and Maureen Nagle ’91, his brother Robert ’68
and many others whom he loved.
From the President
Dear Friends of Annunciation
Near and Far Away:
We said goodbye to three incredible educators who retired in June,
Marie Murphy (48 years), Sandy
Nesvig (principal and teacher
31 years), and Dianne Brain (22
years). They have been extremely
instrumental in preparing our students for success in high school.
We are so grateful for their long dedication to Catholic
education at Annunciation.
We welcome new school Principal Jennifer Cassidy.
Jennifer is a proven leader who brings with her a passion for providing a strong, faith-based education for
all young people. Jennifer has more than 20 years of
education experience at Catholic schools in our archdiocese, both as a teacher and an educational leader. She
holds several degrees from the University of St. Thomas
and recently served as president of its alumni association. Jennifer is excited to be a part of the Annunciation
community to continue to build outstanding Catholic
education for the families we serve.
Funding from the Silent & Live auction continues to
do great things for the students in bringing technology
tools to the learning environment.
The co-chairs
introduced several
innovations that
helped make it a
record breaking
fundraising event.
The exciting and
easy to navigate
website was very
effective and the
new online auction was a big success, too. The online auction was available for one week before the event, and we anticipate that
alumni and friends will want to be part of the online
auction action next spring.
Please join us for the Alumni Dominican Award Mass
and brunch at Septemberfest on September 22nd as
we celebrate 90 years of Catholic education, 30 years of
Septemberfest fun and 90 years of faithful ministry and
worship at Annunciation!
With joyful gratitude for all your support,
Mary Ann Pearson, School President

Annunciation Youth Choir
More than three dozen children participate in the
Annunciation Youth Choir. Participation in the choir
provides children the opportunity to experience the joy
of music and inspire the assembly to worship God by
the sincerity, simplicity and beauty of the music they
offer. Practice and performance allows the children to
better appreciate the fundamentals of liturgy in a fun
and loving setting.
Helen Bureau – Pre-School Assistant
Anne Clubb – Librarian
Kathy Farstad – 4th Grade
Chrissy Fritzen – Kindergarten Aide
Mary Makowski – Middle School Math

Goodbye, and Thank You!
Bob Milske – Church Business Administrator, 12 Years
In addition to singing during select Masses, the children
visit Mount Olivet Nursing Home twice a year to sing for
the residents. Grace Richardson, one of the members of
the choir, commented, “You can really tell how much the
folks at Mount Olivet appreciate our being with them
by their reaction to our performance.” What a win-win:
the children learn new skills, become more immersed
in their faith and feel good about providing service to
others, while the residents at Mount Olivet enjoy a great
performance!

safe place for junior and senior high

their world, and serve the needs of
others,” she says. Anita also serves as

“Over the past seven years we have
