1860 Fluted .44 McCullough Model
In 1860, the Federals pulled out of Texas. Ben McCullough made a
quick deal with his friend Sam Colt for the purchase of 1000 of the
1860 model to be used by Rangers protecting the western frontier.
500 of the Colts were smuggled into Texas through the Federal
blockade by way of Louisiana. These fluted Army models are known
as the McCullough Colts.

“The Colt Paterson, Col. Sam's 1st revolver, was put to test by the Republic of Texas Rangers in the late 1830s. Armed with the new Patterson
revolver, fifteen Rangers in central Texas, near San Antonio at Plum Creek, defeated a fierce band of 100 marauding Comanche warriors. The
battle of Plum Creek made evident the need for Col. Colt's revolver on the American frontier. Regardless, in 1838 Colt was bankrupt.
In 1846, Texas Ranger Captain Sam Walker sought help from Col. Colt to strengthen Texas’ limited forces during the war with Mexico. The
result was the production of the Colt Walker and the return of Col. Colt to the manufacturing of the great firearms pictured on these pages. No
region and no state made a greater contribution than did Texas in the making of Col. Colt's Firearms Co. No weapon, no firearm played a
greater role than did the Colt revolver in the making of Texas and the opening of the American West.”

Captain Walker is best known as the co-inventor of the famous Walker Colt revolver, along with arms
manufacturer Samuel Colt. Walker is said to have self-funded a trip to New York to meet with Colt and
proposed to him the concept of a weapon based on the then-popular five-shot Colt Paterson revolver, with many
enhancements such as adding a sixth round. By 1847, the new revolver was produced. The United States Mounted Rifle companies were provided with the new weapons, which proved to be extremely effective.

The Colt 1862 Police Percussion Revolver is considered by many collectors as the quintessential model in the development of the cap
and ball revolvers. Manufactured from 1848 until approximately 1873, it was designed in response to the demand for pocket pistols by
both civilians and the police force.

In 1871, Colt employee Charles Richards was awarded a patent for converting Colt percussion models to breech loading cartridge revolvers.
The Richards cartridge conversion was an instant success. On July 2, 1872, William Mason, another Colt employee, was awarded a patent
for an improvement to the Richards model. As percussion parts ran short, the 1860 Richards-Mason barrel was changed from the profile of
the earlier percussion model to the sleek profile found on the 1871-72 Open Top.

conversion models costing $5 - $6, while the Peacemaker® cost $15.

manufactured to fire a cartridge.

U.S.V. Model. The Indian Wars were over and the
1873 U.S. Cavalry Models were in a state of
disrepair. They were returned to the factory or to
Springfield Arsenal to be refurbished. There,
the barrels were changed from 7 1/2” to 5 1/2”
and the working parts replaced. They were
inspected by Rinaldo A. Carr and returned to
service. Many of these firearms saw action in
the Spanish American War of 1898. Most were
issued to artillery batteries and were known as
the Artillery Model. In 1898, the first U.S.
Volunteer Cavalry is formed under the command of
Theodore Roosevelt. This group of gallant young
cowboys from all parts of the American West were
recruited in a San Antonio bar and trained at Camp Wood,
Texas. They would carry more than 100 of these Artillery models
bravely in the charge up San Juan Hill. These historic American
cowboys will be known forever as the “Rough Riders”.

Built to compete with Samuel Colt’s single action, the 1875 style revolver was

passing on the less powerful and more delicate 1869 S&W Model No. 3 American.
The superior reloading capability of the S&W American was recognized by Army
ordinance. Major George W. Schofield identified and patented improvements in the design of
the S&W Model No. 3 American and the Model No. 3 Schofield was born.
The latch on the Schofield can be operated with one hand while on horseback and empty cases are automatically
ejected. It is considered by many to be superior to the Colt Single Action when in the hands of mounted troops. The
Army purchased some 9000 Schofields, but due to a lack of promotion by the maker, one of America's greatest
firearms ceased production.
Model No. 3 Russian
Calibers: .45 Colt, .44 Russian
Barrel: 6 1/2”
In 1870, the U.S. Army ordered 1000 of the Model No. 3 American, afterwards the U.S. military had
no interest in this model. The Russians, unlike the U.S. Military, were extremely impressed with the Model No.
3 revolver. The Russians suggested a few improvements that were incorporated into the S&W design and a new .44 Russian
chambering. The agreed price was $13.00 per revolver. The result was the birth of the ‘Russian’ Model and the purchase of some
130,000 revolvers by the Russian government.

The 1866 Yellowboy lever-action rifle was a marked improvement over the Henry rifle. It was the first true cowboy lever-action rifle, and the first
rifle widely carried in a cowboy-style saddle scabbard. The Yellowboy had a convenient new type of loading gate, devised by Winchester plant
superintendent Nelson King. The gate passed cartridges through the side of the receiver. This improvement made the lever action more functional
and allowed for the installation of a wooden fore-end. The handy carbine version of the 1866 Yellowboy was a hit worldwide. Chief Sitting Bull
had one; the forces of Benito Juarez used the rifles in Mexico; and the Turkish Army used the new Winchester Yellowboy against the Russians.

Winchester’s 1873 rifle was the “Rifle that Won the West.” It was chambered in a new, more powerful cartridge: the .44-40—a .44 caliber bullet,
propelled by 40 grains of black powder. However, a factor that really insured the success of the 1873 Winchester rifles was that Colt quickly offered
its Peacemaker chambered in .44-40 as well. A cowboy could have both a lever-action rifle and his six shooter, and needed only one cartridge belt
for both. Most Texas Rangers and every old west cowboy worth his salt carried 1873 rifles. Chappo, the son of Apache war chief Geronimo, packed
an 1873. And Buffalo Bill carried an 1873 lever-action rifle along with a pair of .44-40 Colts in 1876 when he worked as an Army scout.

The Winchester Repeating Arms Company introduced the Model 1876 at the Philadelphia Centennial, celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the
Declaration of Independence from British rule. The 1876 was chambered in much more powerful hunting cartridges than the 1873 model. The ‘76

The 1886 model, patented by John Browning in 1884 was brought to Winchester’s attention while the two companies were negotiating
for manufacturing rights to the 1885 High Wall and Low Wall. The 1886 was to become Winchester’s Big Game repeater, often seeing
action in Africa, and became Theodore Roosevelt’s favorite until it ceased production in 1932. Today, original ’86’s in good condition
bring a big premium from hunters and collectors. The Cimarron Model 1886 is every bit as strong and accurate as the original at 1/10th

The above testimony by the foremost expert in the field of single shot rifles says something for the design of this rifle. It is used exclusively
where accuracy is demanded. Be it long range competition, Wild West shooting exhibitions (Pawnee Bill was a High Wall shooter) or sport hunting,
John Browning’s High Wall design was then and is once again king of the range. The Cimarron High Wall is available with sporting model
single or double set triggers. Walnut stocks are either straight or hand checkered pistol grip style. Cimarron’s High Wall receiver is of the more stylish “Thin Side”
class, while our Low Wall is the “Thick Side” version.

Cimarron is proud to sponsor the following champions from many corners of the shooting world
“Evil Roy” Gene Pearcey
SASS World Champion Shooter
SASS National Champion Shooter
“I would shoot any Cimarron Firearm Evil
Roy revolver out of the box at any match.”
“Outlaw Annie” Bianco-Ellett
CMSA World Champion Shooter
“I’m confident every time I go out and make
a run.”
Kenda Lenseigne
World Champion Cowgirl
"With so much on the line in such a short amount
of time, its imperative that all components come
together flawlessly. My Cimarron Thunderstorm
gives me the confidence I need to focus on
shooting straight to the top".
Joey Dillon
World Champion Gun Spinner
Hollywood Gun Coach
“What I do with my Cimarrons would
make any normal shooter cringe. ”
Old West Historian
Wild West Showman
Founder of CMSA
CMSA World Champion Shooter
Booth Western Art Museum,
Old West Historian
Jim Dunham
“Pistol Packin’ Paula”
"In addition to the quality and reliability of
Cimarron's guns, they possess a certain
look and feel that says ‘Old West’.”
"Cimarron Single Actions are at the top of my
list for balance, reliability and authenticity.
Attention to detail makes the Cimarron
look and feel just like the originals of the
late 1800s.”
“I am glad to recommend Cimarron to any
and all who are interested in Old West guns.
They have been my main performance guns
for years. The balance is the very best for
spinning, twirling, fancy gun handling, and
fast draw.”
"I love to twirl Cimarron's because they
are very balanced guns and they are
very sturdy guns for shooting.”
Phil Spangenberger
Jim Rogers
World Champion Gun Spinner
“Team Cimarron is proud to join Pietta Firearms in this very worthwhile ‘Young Guns’ project.
To say the least this new program has been a smokin’ success!” -Mike B. Harvey
