hether it is live theater, art or music,
the Clearwater area has something for
everyone. Constructed in 1921, the Capitol
Theatre in downtown Clearwater is
reminiscent of a classic Hollywood theater,
known for having some of the best natural
acoustics in the southeastern United States.
Popular performers such as Melissa
Manchester frequent this intimate venue
which offers a wide variety of musical
and entertainment genres.
Since 2008, the West Coast Players
have been performing in their own 100-seat
theatre in central Clearwater.
Ruth Eckerd Hall at the Richard B.

six-ranked venue in the world by Billboard

rooms. Designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright
Foundation, its stellar lineup includes more
than 200 performances annually.
As another option, you can combine an
evening of dining and entertainment at
two local dinner theaters - the Detective

GETTING AROUND
BY
T
wo highly rated international airports serve
the greater Clearwater area. Both St.
Petersburg-Clearwater International
Airport (PIE) and Tampa International
Airport (TIA) have a reputation as travelerfriendly airports. They have shuttles and rental
cars available when you land. Within a 90
minute drive from Clearwater is Orlando
International Airport.
The Amtrak Station in downtown Tampa
brings rail travelers in closest proximity to the
Clearwater region. Greyhound operates a
terminal in Clearwater.
Once on land there are car rental agencies, taxis
and private limousines that will assist you in
reaching your destination.
Dial 511 (a free call) 24 hours a day, to get
detailed information on traffic conditions on
the interstates and major roads throughout
Tampa Bay.
It’s legal to turn right on red unless a
sign indicates otherwise.
Please buckle up. It’s the law and
it’s the safe thing to do.
Remember to turn on your headlights
if driving in the rain.
The speed limit is radar enforced.
36
Many areas have parking meters and they are
strictly enforced. Do not back into parking
spaces. The rear license plate must be visible.
Clearwater’s public transportation system,
the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority
(PSTA) is a convenient way to get around.
Buses run frequently, fares are extremely
reasonable and the routes cover all the major
shopping and beach areas.
Although everything is within easy
walking distance, it is fun to ride the Jolley
Trolley with the friendly drivers pointing out
interesting sights. The beach route operates
7 days a week every 30 minutes starting at
10am. The coastal route includes downtown
Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor and
Tarpon Springs and operates Friday-Sunday
every hour. Jolley Trolley and PSTA bus passes
are interchangeable.
